Bonus chapter from fanfic SOFT (Sort of Fairy Tale) : The Gift

The Disassembly's behavior has been programmed by the Absolute Solver to mimic that of some of the world's most fearsome terrestrial predators (felines, fauves, birds of prey, etc.).

Apart from fighting over territory and killing Workers, one of their habits is that of gift-giving. The Disassembly expresses their affection for the drone to which they offers the object, and helps strengthen the bonds between members of a squad, and especially with a partner.

The gift can be varied: food, metal, core, decoration, construction, etc... Anything to please the other: a Disassembly will select very carefully according to their own criteria. They can spend hours choosing, until they find something they like to offer.

Let's talk about the partner again: a Disassembly will frequently give gifts to their companion to satisfy them and show their affection, hunting skills, ability to care... especially if they're looking to unite with the drone.

Of course, whatever the circumstances, the Disassembly seeks the other's acceptance of the gift: refusal can be very hurtful for the drone having spent so much time and energy.
