Costume Breakdown: South Korean Production
Finally got around to doing a write-up on the South Korean costumes! So without further ado, a few general notes:
The costumes were seemingly all made by UK-based teams and makers. More detail below on each.
As a result, there’s not really any major design changes from the more recent UK costumes. Unless otherwise noted, you can assume that most details are pretty standard.
As always, the boots were custom La Duca. They were most likely embellished by Crystalled by Jane, who had done all the UK boots from very early on, but I couldn’t confirm that. Cleves has the usual thigh highs, but everyone else has a single strap (the double thickness) which the UK has slowly been standardizing to.
The actors, with a few exceptions, seem to be wearing their own hair rather than wigs.
The actors have the Roman numeral earrings.
The actors have the same glitter IEMs style as the UK cast.
As usual, the actors have makeup looks that line up with the popular styles in their country. In line with K-beauty trends, these queens generally have more subdued makeup looks than what we've usually seen in the US/UK and sometimes Aus.
Aragon: 이아름솔 (Lee Arum-soul) and 손승연 (Son Seung-yeon/Sonnet) I can’t confirm who made these costumes. They were possibly made by WhiteStar Costume, who made the most recent West End cast change Aragon costumes. It also might have been made by Rainbow Mascots, who made Jarneia Richard Noel’s costume for Hampton Court. Just like all other recent UK costumes, there’s black threaded through the chains of the necklace. Lee Arum-soul has her straight bob with peak-a-boo black/blonde coloring. Son Seung-yeon has her curled blonde hair. For both the front sections are just pulled loosely back; this isn't out of the norm historically, but it does differ from the French braids that are slowly being standardized in the US/UK/sometimes NCL.
Boleyn: 김지우 (Kim Ji Woo/Jennifer) and 배수정 (Pae Su-jeong/Shannon) Most recent Boleyn costumes have been made by White Star Costumes, but I’m not positive that these are. This costume uses the darker monotone green vinyl. It was introduced for Broadway with reopening, but has only been making its' way over to the UK in recent months. The skirts are also proportionally wider and longer than most recent skirts. Kim Ji-Woo has her bangs styled to the side and front. They both have green clip-in hair extensions.
Seymour: 박혜나 (Park Hye-na) and 박가람 (Park Ga-ram) These costumes were most likely made by Kirsti Reid. Just like all other recent UK costumes, there’s black threaded through the chains of the necklace.
Park Hye-na has a little bit stronger of a side part to accommodate her widow's peak, while Park Ga-ram has a stronger center part (although usually still styled slightly to the side). The softly styled front is in line with typical US wigs, but differs from most UK which usually is pulled fairly straight back.
Cleves: 김지선 (Kim Ji sun) and 최현선 (Choi Hyun-sun) The costumes seem to have been made by Paul Aspinall. He has been the primary UK Cleves costume maker in recent years.
Both queens have a front bump with small buns, in the same style as what Rachel Rawlinson wears on the West End. They also have a temporary red hairspray used on the front and separate red bright red extensions added to the back of their hairstyle, although it seems like there's been some variation and change in those specifics even throughout the run.
Howard: 김려원 (Kim Ryeo-won) and 솔지 (Solji) The costumes may have been made by Rainbow Mascots, who made Aimie Atkinson’s costume for Hampton Court, but I can’t confirm that. Note that Solji has flat boots due to an injury. Just like most other productions, Kim Ryeo-won and Solji have a ponytail hairpiece attached over their own hair. At the time of their debut, every other current Howard’s hair was pulled directly back into that ponytail piece. Instead of that, both have a side part with hair pulled to either side and a few small wispy bangs. (Note: Lou Henry has since debuted with a side swept front style as well)
Parr: 유주혜 (Yoo Ju-hye) and 홍지희 (Hong Ji-hee) The costumes were made by Ashleigh Cherry Costumes, who has been the primary UK Parr costume maker in recent years.
Both actors have the same front bump, braid, and back ponytail that we’ve been seeing become standardized for non-Black Parr actors. The ponytail sits lower here than for most other variations of the hairstyle.

Happy Asian and Pacific Islander Month to our queens!
Here in the US, May is Asian-American and Pacific Islander month. So just like last year, I'll be highlighting the Asian and Pacific Islander queens of Six. This year is especially fun as there's currently an Asian or Pacific Islander queen in every currently-running replica production of Six!
Pictured: Aragon: Grace Mouat (Burmese, 1st UK Tour and West End), Nicole Kyoung-mi Lambert (Korean, pre-Broadway regional tour and Broadway); Jasmine Shen (Chinese/Hong Konger, Breakaway 1.0); Chloé Zuel (Mauritian, 2020 Sydney); Phoenix Jackson Mendoza (Filipino, 2021-23 Aus Tour); Kristina Leopold (Chinese/Thai/Indian, Broadway/Boleyn Tour); 이아름솔/Lee Arum-soul (Korean, South Korea); 손승연/Sonnet (Korean, South Korea) Boleyn: Andrea Macasaet (Filipino, pre-Broadway regional tour and Broadway); Cherelle Jay (West End and 2nd UK Tour); Amanda Lindgren (South Korean, West End); Sunayna Smith (Indian, Breakaway 3.0 and 5.0); 김지우/Kim Ji-woo (Korean, South Korea); 배수정/Pae Su-jeong (Korean, South Korea); Fiorella Bamba (Filipino, Bliss 6.0); Thảo Therése Nguyễn (Vietnamese, West End) Seymour: Jasmine Forsberg (Filipino, Aragon Tour/Broadway); 박혜나/Park Hye-na (Korean, South Korea); 박가람 /Park Ga-ram (Korean, South Korea); Singh Viki (Indian, Hungarian non-replica) Cleves: 김지선/Kim Ji-sun (Korean, South Korea); 최현선/Choi Hyun-sun (Korean, South Korea); Danielle Mendoza (Filipino, Breakaway 3.0/Boleyn Tour); Kardffy Aisha (Persian, Hungarian non-replica) Howard: Jaina Brock-Patel (Desi/Indian, 2nd UK Tour); Zoe Jensen (Filipino, Broadway); 김려원/Kim Ryeo-won (Korean, South Korea); 솔지/Solji (Korean, South Korea); Elysia Cruz (Filipino, Canadian); Hien (Vietnamese, Hungarian non-replica); Sierra Fermin (Filipino, Broadway); Alizé Ke'Aloha Cruz (Filipina, Bliss 3.0/Boleyn Tour) Parr: Shimali de Silva (Hong Konger/Sri Lankan, original student cast); Vidya Makan (Desi/Indian heritage, 2020 and 2021-23 Australian Tours); Shannen Alyce Quan (Eurasian, 2020 and 2021-23 Australian Tours); Karis Oka (2020 and 2021-23 Australian Tours); Megan Leung (Chinese/Hong Konger, Bliss 2.0 and Breakaway 5.0); Roxanne Couch (Maori, West End); Joy N Woods (Southeast Asian and/or Pacific Islander, Broadway); Elena Breschi (Filipino, Breakaway 4.0) 유주혜/Yoo Ju-hye (Korean, South Korea); 홍지희/Hong Ji-hee (Korean, South Korea); Aoife Haakenson (Taiwanese, UK Tour); Lauren Mariaoosay (Indian/Polynesian/Malaysian/Cambodian, Canada) Notes: - All information is from this post. Do you think the South Korean production of Six will give us some new hairstyles for the queens or will they stick to the standardized/pre-existing styles (texture permitting)?
I hope so. But probably they will go for adapting the base style as usual. The question is whether they will follow the usual method or take inspiration from South Korea hairstyles. Considering in the past year six has had done massive improvements when it comes to natural hair, protective styles and following everyone's actual hair type I have a lot of hope for the later.
I think the promo photos give us a ton of clues on what might happen. Loose curls, layered hair, less "structured" styles than usual. I am no expert on SK fashion but they seem to go for hair that looks styled but effortless (kind of what happens with a messy bun thats supposed to look like no thought was put into it but there was clearly work behind).
Also moulin rouge one really cool recent example on what could happen. They have about eight hairstyles for the female ensemble loosely asigned to tracks that ger small adaptations to fit performer's hair texture. For the South Korean production they have the same base but the styling does feel very SK inspired. Most of the wigs look like very straight hair styled, buns are either smaller and tight or bigger and looser, bangs have layers or are very wide in a way not super common in western countries, "natural" curls are loose and everything else is made to look curled instead of styling it to look like natural thight curls. So basically how their hair would look styled that way. And changes aren't super obvious unless you are looking for them.
So my best guess is:
Aragon: longerthan usual, probably just past the shoulders. Loose curls and softly pulled back just behind the ears. 이아름솔 probably gets dark hair with highlights and I hope 손승연 is blonde Aragon
Boleyn: I do expect them to have the back half of their hair loose and not only spacebuns. But I have high hopes for the texture. 김지우 seems to naturally have some very soft waves and 배수정 has very loose curls. I would love to see those represented (seems to be mostly the UK team working on SK so odds for this are good). Spacebuns might be bigger/looser than usual, so maybe some loose curls peaking above the crown. Also everyone cross your fingers for Kim being the first Boleyn with bangs. And I have no clue on the green spacebuns but if it ever happens it will be in SK.
Seymour: I think in this one the promo photos are already showing the styling. Mid back loose curls with a take on the beehive styling used only to add volume. The front might not be fully pulled back (depending on if they make it work with the choreo) as it seems thats favored as a softer look (again no expert on SK beauty).
Cleves: This is the most interesting one to me. I don't think they will replicate the promo photos styling as it leaves no room for the crown, but a narrower version with curls piled up instead of a more defined faux mohawk feels very likely to me.
Howard: We all know this one. Ponytail. Pink will be adjusted to their hair color but thats it. Maybe there will be more volume than usual but I don't expect any surprises in here.
Parr: Another one that feels the promo photos already show. Some take on loose side curls feels very likely. Doesnt feel like any of the other Parr styles (side high curly ponytail, braid on top and ponytail, low side ponytail or updo) would fit in here so side curls feels right.

thoughts on the queens having hair that’s color-matched to their queen color? in the SK production, 4 of the queens already have color-matched hair (blonde for aragon, green streaks for boleyn, red/maroon for cleves, and ofc the pink howard pony) but i think it could work really well for seymour and parr as well with white/blue streaks and also support the “pop” style
I think that aside from Howard thats one of the things that works better on a case by case scenario. Aragon and Cleves are the queens where we get colored hair more often and it is definitely not the norm. In one production you can have and Aragon with full bleached tips, another with only highlights and a third with her natural hair color. And once you see the full look the color at least to me usually feels right (not counting cruises in here because their hair choices come from a different place). Cleves is the same, it is just as likely that someone will have their own color or red highlights, or red tips, or red braids. It is whatever looked right for them.
South Korea is a very interesting case as it is the first production in a country where hair trends don't match mainstream western hair trends. So things were chosen in a very particular context. As usual I am not as familiar with SK beauty trends/standards as I am with western, only vaguely familiar with Kpop tbh.
손승연 (Son Seung-yeon) already had bleached hair and waves so she is just wearing her normal hair styled for Aragon, but 이아름솔 (Lee Arum-soul) got her hair bleached and wears it straight. That style matches her usual style and adds the blonde thats common for aragon in a style that wouldn't be odd to see in a Kpop singer. And the color being lighter than most Aragon blondes matches the bleached shades you would see in SK more than the highlight shades seein in the west.
Also it is definitely not a coincidence that SK is where the green hair for boleyn made a comeback and not anywhere else. SIx visually references pop stars and currently if any do colored hair it will be just the tips as howard or the entire hair (usually with a wig). In SK having some brightly colored hair wefts in the bottom that show with movement is not rare for pop stars. So I don't think green hair boleyn will become a thing, maybe the green spacebuns make a comeback but wouldn't be surprised if it stays only natural color
Seymour and Parr go back to characterization. In the show they are written as the mature/relaxed/down to earth ones. Brightly colored hair doesn't really match that persona. So I dont think white or blue would work, but highlights might work.
