VINCENT VAN GOGH MUSICAL REVIEW (빈센트 반 고흐) 

So this was my first time attending a musical in Korea. I went to see it alone on New Years Eve because I didn’t want to go partying lol. 

I’ll begin with why I chose to see it in the first place. I had been wanting to go to a musical for a while and after perusing Interpark, Van Gogh’s story appealed to me the most. I had been fascinated by his story for a while, but had never done any proper research on it.

It was a fairly easy choice, actually. However, I couldn’t shake the intimidation of seeing a musical in Korea alone. Would it be completely in Korean? The site promised that there would be English subtitles. Which there were not.

I am not usually someone who feels entitled to English in a homogenous country, but I do believe that a promise is a promise. I cannot deny the fact that I was slightly disappointed by the lack thereof. Luckily for me, I have a pretty decent understanding of Korean and my listening and comprehension are pretty good. I understood the play for the most part, but felt like I was missing a lot of tiny details that would have completed the experience.

전에 봤을 때 별로 또 보고 싶다는 느낌은 들지 않았던 것 같고, 김대현 배우라 거를려고 했는데 어쩌다가 봄.

빈센트 역 김대현 배우. 전에 봤을 때 너무 트로트 느낌이라 싫었는데 오오, 우리 배우가 달라졌어요 찍어야 할 듯. 점점 작아지는 미쳐가는 연기 좋았고. 100점 만점에 90점은 줄 수 있는 노래와 연기였다. 목소리톤 이걸로 유지합시다. 저는 대찬성입니다.

테오 역 박정원 배우. 프사 보고 수염 엄청 안 어울리네, 너무 동안이네 했는데 실제 무대에선 굳. 목소리 좋은 듯.

- 충무에서 볼 때는 객석이 무대보다 위라 바닥이 무너지는 연출이 잘 보였지만, 대명에선 2층에서만 잘 보였을 듯.

- 고갱님 드립은 안 치더라ㅋ
