James glances up to the camera feed at the girl waiting to be buzzed in. Nervous, a hero probably but one can never be too sure. He was highly sought after for technological improvements-- whether it were for weapons, shields, communications, any of it, a lot of heroes wanted his work.

But so did a lot of villains. And a lot of villains wanted to know what he knew-- secret identities. So, one can never be too sure, that’s why he rarely works with someone new without a reference.

The woods seemed peaceful, it seemed. James stops when Mackenzie does, looking to her, wondering if she’s hearing something but-- then he sees it too.

That part of the woods used to have dense coverage. It looks like a field now. But there’s something different about this, about it. He glances to Kenz silently.

Looking up at him, Mackenzie nodded, chewing her lip. There was still a bit of blood on her mouth, she assumed from the metallic taste. She took a deep breath, closing her eyes and trying to drown out everything else, to just give herself a moment to… to process it all.

It was so much. Being… being what she was now… Gods, she didn’t want to even think the word. But she knew, and she knew James knew, and she was terrified of it.

Was it even safe for him to have been that close to her? Maybe not, probably not, so she sat up and scooted away from him slightly, bringing her knees to her chest and wrapping her arms around her legs.

James winces when she scoots away, starting to reach out again, but hesitating and pulling his hand back with a sigh. “I’m... I’m gonna give you some time to process this, okay? I’ll just be out there, I’m not going far.”

Getting up slowly, he sighs, looking at her and smiling weakly. “It’s gonna be okay. Promise.”

And he quietly heads back out and closes the door, leaning his back against it for a second to decompress himself.

Then, heading out to the living room to see if Liam was up yet and to fill in at least Tayen if not the both of them.

Oliver smiles and nods to let them, waving them all out and closing the door as they go.

James laughs as he grabs a wooden stool out of the back of his truck and sets it down by the door, opening it to let them in. Gwen rolls her eyes and turns to Eretria. “It was this or he’d try to lift me in. Pointed out I have a car, response--”

“Ya have a car, but you definitely are not set to drive t’ my place. Climb up or I will toss ya in.” James crosses his arms. Gwen sighs as she climbs up and into said truck.
