Two names today! 吉田 is usually read Yoshida (or possibly Yoshita, Yojita, Kichida, or Kitta). It's the 11th most common Japanese surname and it belongs to about 813,000 people. 髙梨 Takanashi is *much* rarer, with only about 30 people (and ranked #58,724), but that's partly because of the use of the archaic 髙. Use the standard 高 and there are about 29,200 people called 高梨 (ranked #662).
吉 means good fortune, joy, or congratulations. It’s read よし, キチ, or キツ. The radicals are 士 gentleman and 口 mouth. Be careful not to confuse it with similar looking 口 characters, like 古 old (which uses 十 ten) or 告 inform (土 soil + ノ no).
田 means rice paddy, and it’s read た or デン.
高 or 髙 means high/tall, expensive, raise/lift, or enhance. Both are read たか, だか, or コウ. The difference is that 髙 only appears in proper nouns.
梨 is new to this blog! It means pear. The readings are なし or リ (from the top radical 利). Usually, 梨 [なし] means Asian pears (delicious), while Western pears (inferior, sorry) are 洋梨 [ようなし]. If you want to be precise, you can also call Asian/Japanese pears 和梨 [わなし].

Yes, I know they are a seafood restaurant, but Swatow Seafood Restaurant (汕头海鲜) has some of the most beautifully crafted mooncakes I have seen this year. The Flaky Teochew Golden Lotus Blossom Delight (金莎荷花酥) with uniquely crafted golden sand chocolate ball filling, crispy outer layer, is perfect for sharing with friends and family during the festive season.

If lotus flower isn’t your type, how about Flaky Teochew Peach Blossom Double Delight (桃花双拼). Each box contains two pieces of Sweet Coconut Paste Mooncakes (酥皮椰香) and two pieces of Savoury X.O Scallop Paste Mooncakes (酥皮X.O干贝).
Tumblr media
The traditional Teochew “La Piah” (潮州双拼大朥饼) pastry, measured 18cm in diameter. Multi-layered crispy skin embraces delectable lotus paste and red bean paste, adorned with five egg yolks. This sweet and savoury combination will surely entice your appetite.

Their Mini Flaky Teochew “Orh Nee” Yam Paste with Yolk (迷你潮州香芋酥) has a gorgeous looking purple and white flaky shell filled with yam/taro paste and one salted yolk. You can also buy the Galaxy’s Eight Delights (八星伴月礼篮) set with eight mini yam mooncakes and one Traditional Teochew “La Piah”.

Lovely garden—it will never not be wild to me that there can be this much color in Tokyo in the winter..... Anyway! The name 髙見 or 高見 is read Takami. There are only about 130 people with this name using the archaic 髙, but over 32,000 using高!
髙 or 高 is read たか, だか, or コウ. It means high/tall, expensive, raise/lift, or enhance.
見 is read み or ケン. Radical-wise, it's an eye 目 on 儿 legs, and it means to see, to be visible, or to show. It can also mean idea/opinion, hopes, or chances.

Let’s start off with Mdm Ling Bakery as it occupies the booth right next to the main entrance. This year, they married traditional kueh lapis with the mid-autumn’s dessert, calling it Kueh Lapis Mooncake. Each set of intricately designed Peranakan-inspired gift box comes with one flavour each of Belgium Chocolate, Mango, Original and Pandan.

Another interesting item is the Floral Radiance Mooncake Tin which you get to choose from assorted baked mooncakes with different fillings like Traditional White Lotus with Melon Seeds, Belgian Double Chocolate, Black Sesame Peanut Butter, Emerald Pandan Golden Yolk and Red Dates Longan. Or better still, choose the Elegant Reunion Mooncake Turntable with Tea Set bundle and have mooncake while sipping the tea.
