Japanese vocab: some words I messed up/forgot this week:

Colour indicates pitch accent (pink = high then falling, orange = remains high, purple = flat)

景色（けしき）- scenery, scene, landscape [noun] その国は山の景色が美しいので有名です。The country is renowned for its beautiful mountain scenery.

贈り物（おくりもの）- gift, present [noun] エミは素敵な贈り物に驚きました。Emi was surprised at the nice gift.

郊外（こうがい）- suburb, commuter belt [noun] 郊外から通う学生はバスで通学している。Students that commute from the suburbs come to school by bus.

最も（もっとも）- most, extremely [adv] 日曜日は私が最も暇な日だ。Sunday is the day I'm most free.

とうとう - finally, at last, in the end, ultimately [adv] とうとう私の姉は婚約した。Finally, my sister got engaged

適当（てきとう）- suitable, proper, appropriate [な-adj] 適当な時に彼にそれを言いましょう。I will tell him at the proper time.

無くなる（なくなる）- to be lost, to be used up [v1, intr] 彼女は元気が無くなった。She's not as energetic as she once was.

鳴る（なる）- to sound [v1, intr] 突然ベルが鳴った。Suddenly, the bell rang.

構う（かまう）- to mind, to care about [v1, /intr] ここに座っても構いませんか？Do you mind if I sit here?

しばらく - for a moment, for a minute しばらく考えさせてください。Let me think for a moment.

講義（こうぎ）- lecture [noun/v3] 講義の間、彼女はとても退屈だった。She was very bored during the lecture.

招待する（しょうたいする）- to invite [v3] 彼をパーティーに招待してもいい？Can we invite him to the party?

倒れる（たおれる）- to fall (over, down) [v2, intr] その男は倒れた木に座っていた。The man was sitting on a fallen tree.

昨日頂いたもの

まずは、GODIVA.これはまごう事なき、クリスマスプレゼントだ。それも「あいさつがわり」の。

義理チョコみたいなものかな？

そして、この赤いグッズは、クリスマスではなく「還暦祝い」だそう。たまたま２５日に届いたんだけど、とても嬉しい贈り物でした。

Korpokkur (or Korbokkur) – ‘People under the butterbur leaves’

Korpokkur are the tribes of dwarfs in folklore of the Ainu people of the northern Japanese islands, meaning 'people under the butterbur leaves'.

The Ainu believe that the korpokkur were the people who lived in the Ainu's land before the Ainu themselves lived there. They were short of stature, agile, and skilled at fishing. They lived in pits with roofs made from butterbur leaves.

Long ago, the korpokkur were on good terms with the Ainu, and would send them deer, fish, and other game and exchange goods with them. The little people hated to be seen, however, so they would stealthily make their deliveries under the cover of night.

One day, a young Ainu man decided he wanted to see a korpokkur for himself, so he waited in ambush by the window where their gifts were usually left. When a korpokkur came to place something there, the young man grabbed it by the hand and dragged it inside. It turned out to be a beautiful korpokkur woman with a tattoo on the back of her hand (the tattooing of Ainu women is said to be based on this). She was so enraged at the young man's rudeness that her people have not been seen since. Their pits, pottery, and stone implements, the Ainu believe, still remain scattered about the landscape.

[History of Ainu]

The Ainu are an indigenous people from Sakhalin in the north to the Kuril Islands and Kamchatka Peninsula in the north-east and around the northern Japanese archipelago, especially in Hokkaido. The Ainu have long had an economic zone around the Sea of Okhotsk region.

They worshipped bears and wolves, as well as gods embodied in the elements of nature, such as water, fire and wind.

Ainu is the Ainu language for 'human' and is believed to have originally meant 'human' as a concept as opposed to 'kamui' (a designation referring to nature based on the spirit that everything in nature has a heart).

The Ainu people were conquered and their land confiscated by neighbouring Japan and Russia between the 15th and 18th centuries. Later, in the 19th century, forced them to convert, apply their customs and belong. During the Soviet era, hundreds of Ainu were executed or forcibly relocated. Today, the population and the Ainu language are in decline and there are revival efforts for their traditional culture.

コロポックル (又はコロボックル) 〜「蕗の葉の下の人々」

コロボックルは、アイヌ語で「蕗の葉の下の人」という意味を持つ、アイヌに伝わる小人族のこと。

アイヌがこの土地に住み始める前から、この土地にはコロボックルという種族が住んでいた。彼らは背丈が低く、動きがすばやく、漁に巧みであった。又屋根をフキの葉で葺いた竪穴にすんでいた。

昔、コロボックルはアイヌと仲が良く、鹿や魚などの獲物を送ってもらったり、品物を交換したりしていた。しかし、小人たちは人目につくのを嫌い、夜陰に紛れてこっそりと配達していた。

ある日、アイヌの青年がコロボックルを一目見たいと思い、いつも贈り物を差し入れる窓際で待ち伏せしていた。そのコロボックルがそこに何かを置こうとすると、青年はそれを手で掴んで屋内に引きずり込んだ。すると、それは美しい女性のなりをしておりその手の甲には刺青があったという (なおアイヌの婦人のする刺青はこれにならったものであるといわれている)。コロボックルは青年の無礼に激怒し、一族を挙げて北の海の彼方へと去ってしまった。以降、アイヌの人々はコロボックルの姿を見ることはなくなったという。現在でも土地のあちこちに残る竪穴や地面を掘ると出てくる石器や土器は、彼らがかつてこの土地にいた名残である。

[アイヌの歴史]

アイヌ民族は、北は樺太から北東の千島列島・カムチャツカ（勘察加）半島、日本列島北部周辺、とりわけ北海道の先住民族である。アイヌ民族は永くオホーツク海地域一帯に経済圏を有していた。彼らは、熊やオオカミ、さらに水、火、風といった自然の要素に具現化された神を崇拝していた。

アイヌとはアイヌ語で「人間」を意味する言葉で、もともとは「カムイ」(自然界の全てのものに心があるという精神に基づいて自然を指す呼称) に対する概念としての「人間」という意味であったとされている。

アイヌ民族は、15世紀から18世紀にかけて、近隣国の日本とロシアに征服され、土地を没収された。その後、19世紀には改宗、慣習の適用、帰属を余儀なくされた。ソ連時代には数百人のアイヌが処刑されたり、強制移住させられた。現在、人口やアイヌ語は減少しつつあり、伝統文化の復興に向けた取り組みが行われている。

So a lot of us were right, it is the member's birth flowers.

The question is what are the birth flowers? The Western calender is different from the Japanese calender and when I checked 3 different Japanese sites they said different things.

Until they tell us it is basically a choose your own adventure (meaning) so come with me as I definitely guess the wrong flowers and will look like a fool later on 🤡. I used a combination of Japanese and Western meanings.

URUHA [June 9th]

Sweet Pea - Tender memories, departure, delicate joy, sensitivity and gratitude. Can also mean loyalty and friendship. In older eras people gave this flower as a sign of thanks for hospitality.

Gaura - Intelligent and Determined

Aster - Reflection and Fond Memories. "I will never forget you."

Godetia - Unconditional Love, a charming and enthusiastic person.

Mayweed- Joy of Bringing People Together, A Happy Heart, Deep Affection, Path towards Love

同じ論理をプーチンがウクライナに言って「元々はロシアの一部」「昔からウクライナにもロシア人が住んでた」と言い張り、ロシア系住民保護と主張して、ウクライナに侵攻した

おんなじパターン

中共は「尖閣は中共の土地」「沖縄は中国（どの支那だよ？）に朝貢してた中国の一部」と主張している

北海道には沢山、移民させてる

次はどうなるかって？

そりゃ中共による尖閣、沖縄、北海道の侵略が始まるんだよ！

だから「中国4000年の歴史」とか「ずっと中国はあった」とか「偉大な中華民族（何ソレ？）」という嘘に加担しては駄目だ！

支那人にも孔子、老子、孟子を生んだ立派な文明があると誤解している日本人が多いのだと思います。

漢文を通じて中国人を理解することぐらい、絶望的な行為はありません。何故なら漢文はこの二千年間というもの中国語とは全く関係がない。日本人のほとんどは漢文を中国語の古語と思ってきたのです。

つまり日本人が尊敬し　知っている漢民族は紀元二世紀でこの地球上から姿を消し、中国住民はそっくり北方の騎馬民族の子孫に何回も何回も入れ替わってしまったのです。

そして秦や漢時代の中国人は，そのほとんどが大陸から居なくなったということです。

ところが日本は遣隋使や遣唐使たちの使節が派遣され膨大な漢籍を大陸から持ち帰り，それを今日まで途切れることなく勉強してきたのです。

つまり日本人は騎馬民族の子孫である中国でなく2000年以上前のいなくなった漢民族の文化を勉強してきたのです。

使節団が中国から持ち帰った無数の漢籍を日本人は今日まで約1300年間も読み込んできたのです。

早い話が遣隋使や遣唐使が持ち帰った「論語」や「漢詩」などによって皮肉なことに中国人でなく日本人の人格が磨かれてきたのです。

中国語と漢文は全く関係がない、つまり漢文の読めない中国人にとって孔子や孟子の教えなど身につくはずもありません。

いわゆるこの二千年間というもの，漢文は中国語とは全く関係がないということを多くの日本人は知らなかったのです。

私はこれらのことを中国史研究の第一人者である岡田英弘先生から教えてもらいました。

私も20年前　漢文を通じて身につけた中国イメージのまま中国に進出してそのギャップの大きさに仰天した記憶があります。

中国進出する前は、信義に厚く，礼を尊ぶ文化人の国であると信じていました。しかし現実にいるのは，油断も隙もならない、詐欺師の野蛮人ばかりでした。

中国人に取って漢文とは外国語同然なのです．中国で話されている言葉とは全く無縁の言語体系なのです。

現在の中国人は，彼らが使っている中国語が，実は文体もボキャブラリーも日本語からの借用であるということを隠そうとしています．現代日本文の真似をして前置詞や助動詞を明確に記すことによって、やっと文章が書けるようになったのです。

日清戦争後，日本に大量の清国留学生がやってきて，日本語を学び中国語を誰でもが読める中国語の表記法を改良していったのです．その中にかの有名な魯迅もいたのです。

日本語をマスターした魯迅の頭の中は日本語の文章があり，それを漢字に置き換えて表現することによって原文一致体の「白話文」が生まれました。

そして試行錯誤の結果　現在における中国語は北京語を元にした「普通話」がやっと確立されたのです。

つねに色んな異民族に取って変わられた中国の歴史を眺めたとき，中国政府が宣伝している四千年の歴史は中国人の歴史ではなく中国大陸の歴史だということがわかります。

中国には単一民族としての中国人は一度も存在しなかった．中国語には

北京語，上海語，福建語などの言葉があることを知られていますが、実際はもっと言語は細分化されています。これらは単なる方言というのでなく，ほとんど共通点がありません。

そこで中国政府は各国が持っている「国民国家」というシステムを作るために国民を北京語に統一して教育してきたのです。それもまだ100年足らずのことです。

そして言語だけでなく異文化、異言語の人々の寄せ集め集団である中国を統一するために歴史も歪曲せざるをえなかった。

毛沢東は少数民族を含めて全ての中国人を漢族にしてしまうために少数民族の文化を奪い、抵抗するものは容赦なく抹殺してきたのです。

もし少数民族の自治や、言論の自由といったものを実現させれば、中国政府が意図する最強の「国民国家」システムの改造計画が頓挫してしまいます。

この中国共産党の意図が理解できたとき、日本人やアメリカ人が思っている「中国は資本主義開放経済への道を進めば自然に民主国家になっていく」という考えが　いかに愚かな事であるかということがわかっていただけたとおもいます。
