Hello Snail! Hope you’re doing well 🫶 I’ve been a fan of your writing for awhile, and had a little au idea pop into my head that I thought you would enjoy :)
Shapeshifter!Mihawk who wants to get closer to Reader, yet can see that they are intimidated by him. One day, while flying about the island to keep an eye on things, Mihawk is injured in bird form and crashes into a bush. Reader witnesses this and goes to rescue the “poor birdie,” not realizing this hawk is really Lord Dracule himself.
Shenanigans ensue, including:
- attempting to feed him seeds or worms
- miHawk bringing flowers to the windowsill or little trinkets and jewelry he “finds” (he’s sweating in the treasury to find something you would like)
- helping preen his feathers
- ranting to your new bird friend about the scary, attractive warlord who seems to just stare from a distance (Mihawk sees this as a green light to court you)
- “wow those eyes are SO familiar..”
- protective bird following you around/on your shoulder (he pecked someone who was flirting with you)
Keep taking care of yourself! And have a lovely rest of your day ✨
- bird brained anon 🪶
Oh my gosh, I need this. I need this so bad. I can see him being such a beautiful little raven or obviously a hawk. First thought: Diaval from Maleficent. But it's Mihawk, and he can switch at will.
Allow me the courtesy to write you an epilogue to your thoughts, I have been thinking about this for about 20 minutes and I needed to get it out. I'm not sure of the word count, it's just a little thing. Also, forgive the dodgy Photoshop. Raven was a stock photo edited on the Polish app on my phone and superimposed in front of Yoru from OPLA and I added some flowers to it.
Pretty Bird
Masterlist Here
Themes: fairytale creature au, avarial!Mihawk x reader, shapeshifter!Mihawk x reader. Part 2 here.
Little thought: If he's injured in his bird-like form, what if he can't switch back for a while? What if he's forced to remain nestled in the roofing of your country cottage until you manage to hear his hiss-like, pained squawks.
The bird is angry. He doesn't want to accept aid, but at the offer of a small piece of stewed meats, and drink by the warmth of your kitchen fire, who was he go resist such comfort? You name him: "pretty bird," and coo affectionately as you look over his feathers and insure there is no ache in his broken, hollowed bones.
Is he frightened? If he is, he surely cannot say. He is just a bird, after all. You bring him offerings of a wooden crate used to carry your homemade vintage of brandy-wine you produced from your country garden, and he accepts it immediately as his personal resting nook.
When your back is turned while you're washing up, you could've sworn you witnessed him dip his onyx beak into the goblet of brandy on your countertop. There was something in the way his golden eyes rolled in his head at the flavor that almost seemed human. You offer him a small thimbleful of the brandy, and he seems to bob his head and shake his tail in gratitude.
You hum to him, and he echoes the tune in a pleasant, deep warble back at you, coaxing a giggle from your throat. You offer him chin scratches as a reward for allowing you to check over his wounds, and his entire body leans into the gentle touch.
As his wounds seem to heal, you're almost remorseful at the prospect of never seeing this beautiful bird again. Such creatures are not meant for captivity, and you ensure to tell him as such as you unwind his bandage and remove his splint.
The last night you spend in the company of your pretty bird, you offer him an anecdote of your childhood: wandering the halls in the the high keep gallery on Kuraigana mountain when the former lord reigned. You longed to return, but you were not certain of the new lord's temperament.
You were unsure of what happened since the old man's natural passing, just as you were unsure of the Draculean man who now ruled thereafter. Was he kind and courteous as the ruler before him, or was he simply a man who now reigned where a kind man once homed: you were certainly too shy to ever approach him to ask.
All you could do is enjoy the splendor of your cottage, trading in handmade crafts with the former staff of high keep Kuraigana when the new lord retired them. They were elderly, and you were grateful of the Draculean man's kindness.
As you slipped into peaceful slumber by your open fire beside the crate, enjoying the warmth while laying on your sheepskin tapestry, the soft bob of talons was barely audible beside your slumbering body. Cloudy vapors of scentless, black smoke shrouded the bird's form and in its place was a creature native to the land, an angelic figure from the fables of old.
The winged man crouched beside you, cocking his head inquisitively to the side as he studied your features in his natural form. His amber eyes held curiosity and gratitude in its honey-like hue as he whispered gently beneath his breath a soft repetition of your name. Now that his tongue could claim your title, he was going to praise your kindness by rolling it over his palate at every moment he spent thinking of you.
"I will not forget your eagerness to aid me when my body was broken," he gently hovered his human like hands over your face, his taloned claws desiring to give you a gentle caress, but his thoughts of your comfort and consent to his touch pulls his urges from his mind. "I was just a bird to you, and you homed and treated me with not a semblance of payment in return."
The soft shudder of his onyx wings was silent, as if testing to see if they had healed before he slowly crept from your door and flew back to his castle in the dark of the night.
When you awoke, you heard a soft rap at your door and a slot of a letter beneath the iron frame of your letter slip. You first gazed to the brandy-wine crate, sighing off your soft sorrow at your pretty bird slipping away without saying goodbye.
Rising to your feet before stooping to collect the letter from the floor, you notice the wax seal was embroidered with the stamped letter "D" on its back. You cocked your head inquisitively to the side before using your blades letter opener to coax the waxy shell from the page. The letter was curt and brief, but the lettering was careful and almost loving.
"I would formally desire to extend an invitation to the premier reopening of the Kuraigana Gallery, by the bequest of Lord Dracule."
And who were you to refuse such an invitation from your new lord, regardless to how intimidating you found his reclusive nature? Donning your best formal garb, you make the lengthy trek towards the high keep with your nerves depicted by your heart jumping to your throat, and the swell of your tongue feeling heavy behind your teeth.
As you wander to the gray slate steps, you are blissfully ignorant of the amber gaze of your pretty bird watching over your every move with a soft curiosity in his eyes and a smile on his beak. He was so excited you accepted his invitation, and he was looking forward to showcasing his home and offering you sanctuary within his walls, just as you did to him when he was but a humble raven.
He was smitten, and he could hardly believe he had fallen prey to expressing adoration of a mortal being as yourself. One thing he was certain of was the fact he was to begin his romantic pursuit of you immediately, intensely and passionately. He could only hope you would not shy away from his winged form, and instead receive his affections with your heart and mind open to it.

Dress up as Siffrin for Halloween: success
Be a perfectionist that HAS to edit the photos before posting them, and realized the eyepatch may have been on the wrong side the whole time: Not so success.
Phyre Siffrin costume coming soon to. Theaters near you. When I open photoshop.
In other news hello in stars and time-ers. If I was, per say, writing a presentation on time shenanigans (travel, loops, etc) for class rn, what games/shows/movies/books/etc. Would you per chance recommend for. That. Looking for examples of it done really well and ones that are done poorly, this is kind of a dos and donts.

Size Shifter Story Idea
HA, so what if a shifter was also an influencer online who would feed the G/T community with 'photoshopped' edits of themself being tiny?! XD
Like, everyone's amazed by their photoshop skillz and their mysterious adamancy of never taking commissions to photoshop others in the same scenario - only ever themself.
Meanwhile they're having the time of their life being smol whenever they want and doing smol bean things while also getting crazy unaware-aware popularity for it online XDDD
Shenanigans ensue if someone they know figures out that the pictures aren't actually fake at all~

Creative Shenanigans #1
Video editing is all fun and games until you're trying to figure out how to photoshop a blonde wig onto a dancing wolf using the tracking motion thing and having to improvise as you go along because this is not the sort of skill you ever thought you would need.
Because the wolf is in motion and is moving, you can't just photoshop it, you need to edit it to make sure that the wig moves along with the wolf.
Shoutout to Runwayml, this platform has been a lifesaver, and it turned out ok, despite the wig slightly flying off at one point. By that point and after trying out different platforms I was ready to call it a day, so the wolf will remain with a lightly skewed wig.

I just spoke with my buddy who worked in crisis PR and he said read this statement very carefully. It's written in such a way that "Kate" does NOT come out and directly say she edited the photo. All she's doing is apologising for the confusion. She does not say she edited the photo. It's a way to change the headlines without directly lying.
So did William take sole credit for work that his wife (who just had surgery and is on sick leave) did to <checks notes> celebrate Mother's Day or did they just pretend that Kate wrote this statement/Kate lied in this statement to cover up shenanigans that Will and his KP team did? Because those are the two options. Neither look good.
Does nobody, and I mean nobody, know how to do PR in that place anymore? Now it's pin all of this on just-recovering-from-abdominal-surgery Kate? Why not on William since they were so proud about how he was the one that took the photo? Somehow they keep making everything ten times worse.
I’m sorry, but I don’t believe for a second that Kate personally edited that photo together in such a way that it had to be killed as inauthentic. The pulling of the photo is likely more about the refusal to provide metadata or the raw image for proof rather than silly Photoshop choices. That isn’t an issue of “mummy going wild on the computer,” it’s a larger organizational issue about trust, transparency, and KP’s overall poor approach to news orgs and the press lately.
Why is Kate taking the fall? Why is William such a lout to let an ill Kate put this on her own shoulders rather than admit KP made an error or say KP is going to reevaluate their practices and make a change?
I don’t believe she edited the photo or made this statement. She handles a lot of their pics and might make the kind of edits anyone would make - correct an out of place piece of hair or something. Her face has drastically different lighting from the kids’ faces. This is amateur work. Kate doesn’t miss when it comes to her appearance in family pics.
This. Her head is literally too large for her body in the photo, and there are videos on twitter showing the line of demarcation where her head was photoshopped into the photo. AP doesn’t issue kill notices lightly.
If it were an amateur photog’s attempt at editing, why wouldn’t they post the original? This whole thing is such a PR disaster. I hate the speculation, but can’t help but wonder why they are choosing this route, rather than just telling the truth?
Making her take the blame? Wow it really is Mother’s Day.
TBH, I sort of love how intentionally vague and passive this statement is. I guess the new policy is “never commit, never admit.”
Obviously, though, the Waleses need a better PR team. Their big mistake was releasing the MD photo to news outlets, rather than simply having it posted to Instagram and letting the media go from there. The public would still have picked up on the edits, but it wouldn’t have turned into an actual news story.
Some people don’t seem to see what the issue is - the photo supposedly taken by William was released to show that all was good with Kate. The photo is clearly photoshopped including Kate’s head. So why, if everything is okay could they not have taken an up to date photo?

This reminds me of something.
Every since I was 5 yo or smt, I have a scar in my face, a result of childhood shenanigans and whatnot. Nowadays it's more discreet, but it was quite apparent when I was younger.
And every time my family went to a place where they would take professional photos of us, the company would photoshop my scar out. In everything, from Christmas cards to hotel souvenirs, and even my school anuaries. Since they wanted to convince my parents to buy the photos, they would edit it to "improve".
They would look at this 7-year-old child and decide my face was too ugly to make my parents want the photo and would edit it to "look better." Like that's not the face I would see every day in the mirror. Like that's not the face my parents recognized was their child.
And with today's technologies, I can't even imagine how worse it must be for the younger generation, in which they can edit the photos themselves on their phones. When you see ppl editing you and you learn that that's how you are supposed to look. Not like the real you, but the perfect you. And you start to, by yourself, edit you out of every photo.
Every time I see that G--gle phone photoshop commercial my heart is filled with infinite sadness, like, yeah it's cool you can have a good family photo, it's cool you can do that, but god, there is something to be said for the honesty of a family photo where you're blinking, or crying, or have ugly wrinkles.
What is too unsightly for you? Would you swipe-click-replace out the image of my cousin crying on our Florida trip family reunion photo? Would you remove the plastic snake I have clenched in my grip, which I still have to this day? Would you scoff at the wrinkles around our eyes and the strands of hair on our faces as we squint into the wind, the day before the massive storm? Would I remember it if I didn't have these reminders, if the picture was perfect and clean, all children in a row with perfect gleaming white tombstone tooth smiles? No tears. No plastic snake.
Everyone is beautiful and no one looks genuine.

Notes. 6/03/2024.
Masks. A form of cutting shapes out of other shapes to create a more unique form quickly and efficiently. Usually it is utilised to target certain areas of images inside of photoshop to single out an effect for that area.
Transparency, dictated by the alpha pixel which is considered non-solid by the computer program.
B = Brush E = Eraser I = Eyedropper OPT + DEL = Fill Space with Colour CMND + DEL = Fill Select with Background Colour We ave created fantastic abstract art in class with brush practice :)
While Selecting: SHFT = Add to Selection OPTN = Remove from Selection SPCE = Reposition Marquee
Select Family: CMND + A = Select All CMND + D = Deselect CMND + Z = Undo SHFT + CMND + Z = Redo
Dear god, our abstract skills are growing with every new tool discovered.
______________________________________________________________
Masking And Selecting Practice.
Using a multitude of tools including Photoshops exclusive Pen Tool which is mildly confusing when you deselect it and disappears forever.
We also used a Object Select Tool, making this basket of fruit easy to manipulate and change the colour over cause it uses some significant tech to single out items.
Shenanigans continue onto inserting a humming bird where no humming bird has ever been... From bland image to bird filled.
Using the masking process we create an outline around out humming bird, selecting the essentials only and slowly editing it. The tool 3rd from the beginning (white box dark circle) is the masking tool.
this will create the outline needed to transfer the humming bird from one background another with some flaws here and there.
After filling the background (CMND + DEL = Fill background with selected colour) we edit the silhouette inside the masking layer, creating cleaner edges and a soft blur to the wings edge to mimic the previous images speed since object select can not detect this.
Creating a mask, Feathering and Blurring, cutting, pasting, and adjusting. All so it fits into the spider infested image ;)

Small update...
They tracked down the original photo. My analysis was actually pretty much dead on, but I guessed wrong on a few things. I thought this was a press photo so I assumed it was taken with a professional camera. But it was taken by a staffer with an iPhone, which changes the processing aspect a little bit.
The original photo looked like this compared to the published version.
This is an HDR composite image. The iPhone does this automatically if you have the HDR setting enabled. It takes a really bright version and a really dark version and blends them together to balance the exposure.
People with older DSLRs (like me) do this same process manually when a scene has more dynamic range than our camera can handle.
It's similar to taking a RAW photo and boosting the shadows and bringing down the highlights. Just two different ways to do the same thing.
I was so close!
The photo was then post processed to crop the hangar ceiling out, warm the white balance, and boost the contrast.
It's crazy how hard it is to tell smartphone photos apart from ILC photos these days. Computational photography is so powerful. And if you add a little of your own editing on top, you can get some stunning results.
Phones still struggle with challenging lighting conditions. And they don't give you much in the way of depth of field. But under ideal circumstances they are pretty much on par with other cameras. Which is why if people are interested in photography, they should not think they need a better camera to get started. You can learn a lot just using your phone.
A few people mentioned this analysis does not matter. And that none of these people want to change their minds so they will not be convinced by the evidence.
But that wasn't why I wrote this. People were correct to be suspicious of this photo. It was altered and it had some unique and uncommon attributes that set off our uncanny valley alarm bells. Skepticism is good. Ignoring the evidence it was real is where they fell astray.
Our immediate future is going to be rife with images that could be fake. And so we need to improve our photographic literacy so we can help figure out fact from fiction. And I just wanted to demonstrate what that process was like.
We will need to know how light does and does not work. We need to know the common editing workflows photographers use. We need to understand how smartphones process images. And we will have to know signs something is A.I.
Some folks said they could tell this wasn't A.I. because there was not any extra fingers or body horror among the crowd. Others mentioned all of the text was legible. And I must caution people using these observations going forward. Because A.I. is going to improve. The body horror is going to happen less and less. It's going to be harder to spot. Text is already improving in different A.I. models. Eventually that will no longer be a good indicator either. Our current best indicators will not last.
And I think people were not considering another possibility—a combination of A.I. and human manipulation. Right now the best way to fake an image is to let A.I. do as much as it can, and then go in with more traditional Photoshop techniques to fix anything that gives away A.I. shenanigans. That is a sort of nightmare scenario. A human could have replaced all of the signs. Maybe turned one upside down. They could fix hands and erase extra fingers. I am capable of all of that myself to a degree you couldn't detect. It kind of scares me how much I could abuse the power of A.I. in its current state.
So, knowledge is power. And learning a bit more about photography and light and physics is a good idea. You may even improve your personal photography in the process.
I think in this new age of A.I. the general public is going to need to increase their photography and lighting literacy. The response to this photo has just been a shit show.
There are people pointing out perfectly normal edge lighting and misunderstanding how reflections work.
First the plane is parked at an angle. The tail is farther back than the nose. But also that is a curved surface and it tapers. It's reflecting the area to the right of the photo.
And the bottom of the plane is reflecting what is directly underneath. Which is the tarmac, not the crowd.
It should also be noted that photo was shot with a very telephoto lens and everything is super compressed. The crowd appears much closer to the airplane than they actually are.
But then someone who should have good understanding of lighting said this...
And now I'm worried for her clients. Because that's very... wrong.
Well, wrong-ish.
First, let's try to understand why this photo is setting off some alarm bells.
The crowd toward the rear is in shadow, but they are still very well exposed. But then there is also a bright light source creating a strong edge light on them. Looking at this photo with just the context of what is in it, there are some things that seem uncanny.
The information we do not have is the people in the shadow area are inside a very brightly lit airplane hangar.
So they have artificial light blasting them from the top.
But that light is still much dimmer than the sunlit areas outside so they appear in shade. But we are used to shade being much darker than areas in direct sun. So the balance seems off in our brain. We expect the people to be darker because we don't have the context of the bright hangar lights above them.
But the other issue is that the photo was post processed. It wasn't manipulated. The pixels weren't changed. But the exposure balance was altered.
If I were to guess, the original photo looked more like this...
But newer digital cameras can have 13 to 15 stops of dynamic range. And if you shoot in RAW, you can easily lift shadows and bring down highlights. You can balance the exposure so the dark parts aren't as dark and the bright parts aren't as bright. This photographer might have overdone it a bit in this case, but this is a fairly standard edit used to bring balance to photos.
And lastly, where does the edge light come from?
Edge lighting or backlighting or rim lighting (all the same) should probably be called wrap-around lighting if you want to be more accurate.
It comes from a homogenous light source that is larger than the subject being lit. So with my knife photo, I placed it on a large LED panel light.
The light source was bigger than the subject so it wrapped around the edges.
And I'm afraid the airplane is not nearly large enough to create a light source to wrap around everyone in the crowd. It isn't even reflecting direct sunlight. So I'm sorry to say that lighting designer was mostly mistaken despite the confidence.
The light source is... everything.
That entire red area I highlighted is the light source.
As well as everything above and everything to the sides.
And the biggest aspect of that light source would be the sky above. I think people always forget the sky is a light source. If you are seeing blue, you are seeing light. And I guess the plane is included in that, but that entire highlighted red area is so bright, and so filled with sunlight bouncing around, that it creates basically a giant softbox. It becomes a huge single light source for the people in the hangar.
If you look at footage taken from way inside the hangar, you can see the camera adjusting exposure for the crowd inside, but look at what happens to the sunlit area outside.
What does that look like?
A giant softbox.
A single homogenous light source blasting light inside the hangar.
The sun is so incredibly bright that even when it is not directly lighting something, the light just bouncing around outside is enough to overpower the very bright hangar lights.
So, what have we learned from this?
Perhaps people should hire me to be their lighting designer.
Though I'm sure she is actually very talented. She seems to work with stage lights and this is more physics and photography.
Phystography.
