“You seem like you’re feeling better today, Remus,” you say, passing him a cup of tea. You give one to Sirius, too, then James. It’s got a couple of little flowers floating on the top, James notices. Adorable. 

Remus looks a bit caught offguard. “I am, thanks. How’d you know?” 

“Your aura’s looking less gray than usual.” 

Sirius snickers. “Just like you to have a gray aura, Moons. Boring.” 

You settle on the couch beside James, crossing your legs underneath you. “I don’t think Remus is boring,” you say, voice soft and airy as dandelion fluff. “His color often just looks a tad sapped. It’s bluer today.” 

Remus seems to perk up a bit at your appraisal. He does look well, James thinks, but your noticing improves his color even more. Remus doesn’t like being viewed like a helpless, afflicted lamb, and you never have treated him like one, save whatever you put in his tea (it takes a few minutes longer to make than the rest of yours, though James pretends not to notice). 

James watches you watching Remus, and his heart gives a happy little throb. You’re so kind, considerate in ways which you play off as incidental, but he can see the effort you put into taking care of the people in your life. He doesn’t know how you know half the things you do, but you’re always looking out for them. He’ll be waiting for Sirius to come home late at night and you’ll text to ask if everything is okay, or Remus will be having one of his worse days and you’ll show up unannounced with chocolates and juniper bound with twine to “cleanse” their flat, whatever that means. Or when James was sick with the flu a few weeks ago, and Remus and Sirius both swore they hadn’t said a word to you but he’d woken from a nap to find you sitting beside him with soup and a very strong elderberry tea. He’s fairly sure your presence had healed him just as much as the sustenance. You have that effect on him. 

“Do we all have auras?” Sirius asks, and James comes out of his reverie to find his friend watching him with a poorly concealed smirk. He supposes he’s had that look on his face again. Lovestruck.

“Of course.” You give Sirius a funny smile, like this should be obvious. “Everyone has an aura,” you say, “we just can’t all see it all of the time.” 

“What’s yours look like?” James asks. 

Your lips part in surprise as you turn to look at him, your knee bumping his thigh. “I can’t see my own. I’d have to ask someone else.” 

“What about mine?” Sirius asks. 

You turn back to him. James feels the loss. “Right now, it’s mostly orange.” 

“Right now?” 

“Yours shifts a lot. A couple of minutes ago, it was pinker.” You tilt your head, considering. “You’re very sunset-y today, Sirius.” 

Sirius grins, and James knows that whatever his friend may think about auras, he’s going to carry that compliment with him for the rest of the week. “And what about our Jamesie? What’s his aura like?” 

“Oh, James’ almost never changes.” You look over at him with a small smile on your face. Maybe James is flattering himself, but he feels as though there’s a faintly secretive quality to it, like some part of your smile is just for him. “His is always yellow. Though I have been noticing a bit more red than usual lately.” 

James isn’t sure he can speak with your eyes on him like this. You’re so lovely it’s choking him. Thankfully, Remus comes to his aid. 

“Is that a good thing?” he asks. “It shifting, I mean.” 

You don’t turn away from James like he expects you’re going to. You hold his gaze, that smile broadening just slightly. It has all the soft radiance of moonlight. 

“I don’t think so,” you say. “It’s not making him any less himself, it only means that something has changed.” 

“Good god,” Sirius stage-whispers to Remus. “Look at him, we’ve lost him completely. Bet it gets redder every time he looks at her.” 

“It does, a little.” Your eyes flit upwards, presumably to colors which he can’t see but he imagines his face is starting to match. “It might be the serotonin boost. Looking at people you care about will do that.” You set a hand on top of his, thumb stroking over the knuckle of his pinkie finger. James’ mouth is a desert. “I’m happy to have James look at me if it makes him happy.” 

Sirius lets out a short laugh. “I’m sure it does, sweetheart. He’s—” 

Remus must elbow him, because he goes blessedly silent. 

“I’ve been wondering,” Remus says mildly, “do you give us different kinds of tea? They always look different from each other.” 

“Oh, yes.” You finally break your gaze away from James’, but your hand stays atop his. It’s hardly a whisper of a touch, and yet he’s very concerned you’re somehow absorbing every thought and feeling he’s having through some freaky osmosis. It doesn’t seem wholly out of the realm of possibility for you. “I make them with different ingredients for each of you.” 

Sirius quirks an eyebrow. “In that case, can I try a new one next time? This one tastes a bit like dirt.” 

You shrug, nonplussed. “If you like, but it might not do as much for you.” 

“What do you put in them?” Remus asks curiously. 

You take a sip of your own tea. “Just what you need.”

The Road to Parenthood

♡ A month after their risky Valentine's Rendezvous, Betty ends up sick with a ‘stomach bug’ that causes her to throw up after every meal for two days. 

♡ It got so bad that they skipped their weekly lunch date at Captain Tasty’s. Betty had to throw up the minute they walked in and the smell wafted into her face.

♡ Simon has to convince her to let him take her to the hospital. Even when they first get there, she tries to run away from him in the parking lot. Simon caught her before she could fall from exhaustion.

♡ Betty’s doctor treated her for anemia and sent her home with pills that would help her keep down food. They also took blood and urine samples just to be on the safe side and would call her with the results within a week.

♡ When they do call Betty, they deliver her the news: she’s around eight weeks pregnant.

♡ The minute she found out, she called Simon into the bathroom to tell him

♡ “Really? You're not kidding? You’re serious right now??”

    “Serious as a heart attack, Simon. You put a baby in me. . .”

♡ Sure, this wasn’t exactly how either of them pictured their lives going. Both of them were always just so caught up in their research and each other that they never really talked about kids. Maybe once or twice over the last four years that they had been together? Of course, they’d be lying if they said they hadn’t thought about having children with each other before. And both found that they wouldn’t mind at all.

♡ They both were so ecstatic that Simon picked Betty up and spun her around.

♡ When she’s 10 weeks, in the middle of their first ultra-sound appointment, Simon asks Betty to marry him; a little pressured by the presence of their future child. And while Betty knows she wants to marry Simon eventually, she recognizes that he’s doing it for the wrong reasons. After some talking, they decide to put their wedding on the back burner. They were already stressed about starting a family and they didn’t need the added stress of planning a wedding on top of that.

♡ Betty immediately connects her with OBGYN, Dr. Olson.

♡ She was on doctors to stop taking her anti-depressants until the end of her pregnancy, as they could cause side effects and complications for the baby’s development. Betty took an alternative in the meantime, but she experienced mood swings early in her pregnancy as a result.

♡ When she felt well enough to eat normally again, she started craving french fries and strawberry chocolate-chip ice cream.

♡ When she’s around 13 weeks, Betty and Simon start discussing names for their baby.

♡ Simon goes first. For a boy, he picks ‘Henry,’ ‘Silas,’ and ‘John.” For a girl, he likes ‘Grace,’ ‘Heather,’ and ‘Penelope.’

♡ For a boy, Betty likes ‘Tobias’ or ‘Toby’ for short, ‘Casper,’ and ‘Theodore.’ For a girl, she picks ‘Alice’ after her mother, ‘Juniper,’ and ‘Willow.’

♡ Neither of them had a preference for the sex of their baby. They wanted it to be a surprise. Betty didn’t care as long as they were healthy, and that they existed in the first place. Simon agreed with her. Although, whenever he pictured their baby, he saw a boy.

♡ At 16 weeks, their baby starts kicking. Betty immediately calls Simon over to her to put his hand on her bump. They spend the whole day just sitting around their apartment fussing over her stomach, trying to get the baby to move again.

♡ “I felt that. Was that the baby?”

    “No, Simon. It was just my bowel movements. Of course, it’s the baby, you dumdum!”

♡ They sing ‘Everything in You’ to her belly whenever it’s kicking and Betty needs them to calm down.

♡ At 20 weeks, it was getting harder for Betty to get comfortable enough to fall asleep. And the fact that the baby was kicking her almost constantly didn’t help, either. She started sleeping with a pillow between her legs.

♡ Having Simon’s hand on her bump helped calm the baby down so Betty could sleep.

♡ One night, she woke up in pain. At first, she thought maybe it was just something she ate. She had been trying out weird combinations of food to satisfy her cravings. But when she sat up in bed to go to the bathroom, she shook Simon awake in panic.

♡ “Simon? Simon, wake up.”

    “Betty? What’s wrong, princess? Are you okay?”

    “I’m. . .I’m bleeding. . .”

♡ Sorry for the upcoming angst, guys. It's gonna get worse before it gets better. Writing about my favorite characters going through terrible shit is how I cope, okay??? I won't leave you hanging for long, though. I'll post the next part soon

ੈ♡˳ open ! dawn could see the sweat wetting his shirt in the reflection of the mirror in the studio as he worked through the choreographed moves along with the beat of the song. perhaps he should be out sightseeing or trying foreign foods, but the choreography from his group's newest title track had been kicking his ass, and he was getting tired of it. he groaned in frustration, loud enough to be heard over the blasting music, when he dropped a move on accident, throwing his entire timing off. he leaned his back against the mirror, dropping to be seated on the floor. he rubbed the back of his sore, sweaty neck, attempting to work out the knot that had settled there. the dance he was trying to work out wasn't the easiest on those muscles. he didn't notice the person in the door until he was getting ready to force himself into standing again. "ah, my bad. do you need the room?"

       dancing had never been her strong suit, juniper was a singer by trade. whenever she had free time (that wasn’t watching anything terrifying) she’d often go to a practice room to stretch and run over choreo for various songs. her dancing had greatly improved since she had started practicing which in turn only motivated her more.

       she was looking down at her phone, replying to some texts from her siblings when she pushed the door to a practice room open. she stood in the door frame for a moment, tucking some hair behind her ears before looking up and pausing. “oh shit, sorry! if you’re using this room, i can always find another.” juniper said with a kind smile. “though, of course, i don’t mind having a practice buddy. i’ve heard it’s always easier to focus and get things done when someone is doing the same thing as you.”

biography : 

june was adopted as an infant by henry and lianne armstrong, pastors at a mega-church in seattle, washington. her sisters hazel (older) and rose (younger), also adopted, were her lifelines growing up. 

following a repressive and sheltered childhood, she came out at thirteen and turned away from the church and her parents. her grandmother took her in after that; an eccentric former actress who let june blossom into the little anarchist she was born to be. 

but being separated from her sisters was harder than she thought, and though their parents tried to keep them apart at every turn, she snuck into the house whenever she could and snuck them out whenever they felt daring. 

she worked at the old movie theater in her grandmother’s neighborhood until she (barely) graduated high school and then it was all film, all the time. even guitar, which she swore was her life’s calling, was pushed to the side in favor of watching, obsessing over, and making movies.

when rose graduated from high school a couple of years ago, june felt the universe pulling her out of seattle. she took off for the open road and found herself all over the place: waiting tables in santa fe, playing guitar with a local band in portland, operating a boom mic in hollywood, making friends and enemies with a horde of roommates across the west coast.

all she needs now is the next great adventure. but you know what they say: be careful what you wish for.
