excuse me i need to Muse on something for a moment
so in Wally's secret 'vinyl' audios, specifically the last few (if we're listening to em in chronological order), obviously he starts to sound more strained/distressed. his breathing is more labored, like it's taking all of his energy to make contact.
but the audio that really caught my attention was the "But i still can't see" one. cause he just said he has more eyes than he did before. he knows We draw them a lot, and it's thanks to that that he can see. but he still can't see?
so my question is: where is Wally physically? cause although he can (assumedly) see the WHRP goings on, he can see through the eyes We draw, that could all be on a, uh... more Intangible level of sight. like the spiral pit is forming an eye, and then there's the eye on the ceiling in the secret Staff Only section - could Wally be in the pit, that space between his reality and Ours, "watching" through the eyes? but unable to actually see with due to the pit being pitch black nothingness? is he somewhere else? is he stuck? he can see, but he can't... see.
(or is he trying to explain an abstract concept - he's not actually viewing anything, but he can sense it. like how he knows We're there, even if he can't see or hear Us. but he just doesn't have the words to describe it other than using physical senses - see, hear, look.)
and him saying "...that I can see. But it is still... I can't..." but it's still what, Wally? dark? something else that he doesn't have the words to describe, so he just says that he can't see?
i know that in the Livestream Trivia Document (compiled by @/the neighborhoodwatch) there was something said about Wally being in a box. my first thought reading that was "oh, so he's in storage? the physical puppet, i mean?" which would make sense - show's over, there's no more use for him. pack 'em up and put him away. but that paired with the "can't see" audio makes both seem a lil... connected.
Wally can't see > he's likely somewhere dark > the inside of closed boxes are dark > Wally's in a box. (or maybe the Neighborhood is the box? it's a stretch, i know, but the map is a box. television sets are often set up in "boxes". maybe it's less of a physical storage box and more of a 'boxed in' sort of thing...)
one question i've had since the Start of my interest in this incredible project is: how is Wally communicating? how has he connected to the site? how does he connect to our reality? the pit almost definitely has something to do with it - most likely acting as a bridge, or the deteriorating of the barrier between our two 'worlds' - but if Wally is in a box and Not the pit or even just in the puppet's reality... how is he reaching us beyond just seeing through the eyes he's given?
or is he in their reality, and he can contact through the pit or something, but he can't actually see the other side? Our side? he knows it's there - that We're there - but none of it is visible to him. maybe his apparent disassociation in the 14 bug audios is a demonstration of him contacting Us. we can see through him, but it's a one way street.
and speaking of the pit - i just had a thought. his whole thing with Us letting him in, opening... the pit on the neighborhood map is getting bigger and clearer. but the presumed Other Side, the one on the Staff Only ceiling, is small. it's the size of a ceiling panel. it seems to me that Wally is chipping away at his side of the pit or 'portal', trying to reach Our reality, but he needs Us to do the same thing on the other side. the QA can hear him calling, but there's no phone on their (Our) side of the pit. how do We call back???
there's a fundamental barrier & lack of understanding between Wally and the QA/Us. he's trying. he wants to be let in, but what does that mean, really? let him in where? open what? he's desperate. he wants us to understand. he's trying so so hard Without the right tools to clearly communicate what he wants. he can't see Us, We can see him, both know the other is there, but there's no way to connect. and the attempts are hurting all parties involved, however unintentionally

On 10 Years of Mid-City Island
I was painstakingly self-conscious in the beginning of my career. I’d grown up accustomed to writing in a vacuum, in my childhood bedroom, in my dorm room, hiding my songbook inside my mattress or at the bottom of a drawer. I always thought I’d get to make my first recordings in total obscurity, clumsily clanging around.
But months before I began recording my first EP, things blew up.
After a few shows and 2 bedroom recordings, seemingly everyone from the Los Angeles music scene was suddenly peering into my window, waiting to see what my first offering would be, hoping for commodifiable gloss. I was wined and dined and unrefined.
But I didn’t want to record the “R&B record” that would make me famous. I wanted to make something experimental akin to the early recordings I loved – Linda Perhacs’ Parallelograms; Sufjan Stevens’s A Sun Came; the scratchy musings of Cody ChestnuTT and Milton Nascimento; the kitchen candor of Jessica Pratt. Instead I was often shipped to fancy producers’ and execs’ home studios and offices, forced to listen to them preach about how I was a star-in-waiting. I didn’t want to be a star. I wanted to be honest.
But secretly, I did feel like a star. Gaseous and infinite, distant and intangible, shining bright in the middle of a constellation, unable to touch the celestial bodies around me. I scribed “Man on the Moon” on a red guitar I bought on sale from a shuttering music store.
In one of these producer meetings, I journeyed to the top of a mountain to meet TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek. He gave me a four-track recorder and told me to say “f*ck off” to everyone trying to sign or produce me. He told me to find my own voice or others would find it for me. He taught me how to record myself to tape, sparking an affinity for analogue processes. I “borrowed” the tape recorder, promising I would come back when I had found my sound. It sits now on the topmost shelf in my home studio. I guess I’m still searching.
Mid-City, Los Angeles was more of a concept than a place. Seemingly nobody had ever heard of it, and yet it was the geographic center of the city. Living there felt analogous to my disposition as a “rising” Angeleno – highly visible and invisible at the same time. It was an urban island and the sun beat its concrete ceaselessly. I sat on my bedroom floor and wrote “Plastic,” listening to Amy Winehouse demos and thinking about how we let our stars fall as long as they entertain us on the way down.
I recorded these misgivings straight to cassette on that Yamaha MT4X, feeling like a historian tracing my own origins. I loved that it sounded older than it was. I felt older than I was. I decided then that I would press it to vinyl in 10 years. I couldn’t afford to make vinyl records anyway. Instead, I backpacked little cassette tapes I would sign and sell at shows.
I realized early on that being visible (but not necessarily seen) was just gonna be a part of my story. How blessed I was to push through it with clear vision – and now I’m forced to stop and reflect. 10 years later, I’m still thinking 10 years ahead. Ask me about now in 10 years. Shoot, ask me in 20.

HI SYNNIE!! I WANTED TO ANSWER THIS FOR THE LONGEST TIME ( and i also looked at your analysis and that is *chef's kiss* i'll be using a format similar to that though i can't guarantee the length :'D )
ironically, tumblr roleplay is actually one of the reasons i began pursuing writing professionally; beginning of my writing journey on here began back in our lord and savior year 2014 :'D i was writing oc x canon short stories ( we called them oneshots teehee) back on quizilla and even did do a stint of rp thru the shitty messaging. lucky for me, almost all traces of my writing before 2021 have been deleted so i will never have to go through the cringe of other people reading my shitty characters and writing back then :) but let me actually answer the questions here!!
WRITING STYLE
this was pointed out to me by one of my writing professors and something i've come to realize more and more, but i don't describe human bodies. i don't like to either ( i have some suspicions on the root of this too ), but perhaps this is why i like tumblr rp so- we are able to use a faceclaim to represent a character; there's no need give a physical description if a picture can do it for you. for me, if there is description, it's going to be more intentional as is the action itself.
to connect with that point, my writing tends to lean more towards exploring character interiority: how the action of the other muse or even just the presence of the other muse will affect their opinions, their perception. i'm most comfortable with beginning from the interior before branching out into the character's exterior/actual interaction in the moment. this might be the reason why sometimes it feels like my replies are drawn out.
i used to wish i could write metaphorically and lyrically the way say, oc.ean v.uong does. however, i've learned that while i can admire that style, it's not one that comes easily for me. my writing tends to be more on the literal side. if a metaphor or a simile slips in, it was unintentional but it feels right. i think figurative language comes in for me when it comes to describing emotions or sensations my characters might be feeling ( ex. one & two ). i don't like to simply state emotions or intangible concepts; there's only so many ways to state a character is in love, but there are a thousand ways to describe a character in love ( ex. one & two ).
these days and my dear lenlen also pointed this out!! but i also tend to use...parentheses generously ^^' of course this draws out mixed reactions from my readers. here, i assume it's okay, but in my prose when it happens, my critique partners tell me to get rid of it :'D i personally love using both parentheses and the strikeout as it lets me play around with thoughts that my muses perhaps don't want to admit to themselves.
i like to think i've managed to weed out some bad habits that tend to be rampant among tumblr writing. when referring to characters, i will only use either their name or their pronouns. unless it adds to the voice of the muse itself, i'll never use epithets ( 'the female', 'the japanese', etc. ) as they really aren't used in say, published writing. when i was younger, i also used to have a bad habit of using 'she looked'/ eye direction. sometimes i do end up writing those things but i manage to catch myself and cut those sentences out. unless it's a significant action, i always usually assume the reader knows the general eye direction ^^'
CHARACTER VOICE.
one thing i know my mutuals and my critique partners tend to tell me about my writing is that my characters are well-developed, each having their own distinct voices. i do notice that my style/how my response is written does differ depending on which muse i'm writing. below are trends in my writing of certain muses:
annie: lots of imagery and metaphorical language involving water and aquatic life. since she is the mad girl, the idea of 'madness' and 'being good' comes up a lot too. tone is a tad more innocent and there does tend to be a bit more metaphorical language as well; to process her trauma, it's easier on her to think metaphorically or about her childhood than to think literally and to be in the moment.
ga-ram: sentences are shorter, less flowy as they are quite curt. responses of them will also be on the shorter side as they don't usually have as much to say in comparison to some of my other muses. also since they devoted like the last 10 years of their life to helping judge kang, unfortunately, they will think of him and make comparisons.
nell: her replies end up on the longer side, mostly because when she talks, she talks a lot. to reflect her never-ending train of thought and her anxiety, the narration in her replies and her dialogue especially tends to consist of long sentences with lots of dashes and interruptions.
suki: i think i've said this before, but the use of dramatic (and situational) irony comes out the most here. because she's quite set in her ways, but also has a tendency to (majorly) misinterpret a situation, i've found that breaking the fourth wall on occasion helps to contribute to the humor and the light heartedness of her threads. you'll see a lot of declarative sentences and exclamation points here.
patrick: unfortunately, he is a man of literature and therefore, has a tendency to ramble. literally- his responses are almost always like 500+ words. his narration is much more formal, much more...sophisticated? i guess just think of british english ( or at least my best interpretation of it ^^' ) also more metaphorical language here in comparison to the others and plenty of allusions to greek and roman myths since he's well read in both.
OTHER WRITERS.
i'll just start off with saying that i don't think i'd be nearly as good of writer if not for my writing partners. one of the best things about roleplay is that writers here aren't in competition with one another; they have to collaborate if they want to be fulfilled here. that being said here's my list of tumblr writers i would say i learned something from:
cyan ( @bloodxhound ) is one of the first people on this hell*site that i like to think really challenged my writing. there's an elegance and a rhythm to her prose (her word choice specifically) that reads so well...reading her stuff made me want to expand the vocabulary in my own writing, going beyond what is used colloquially in american english.
lenlen ( @ptternminds )'s writing always gives me BRAIN FOOD so you have anyone to blame for me going off the deep end when it comes to character interiority, they're the culprit :3 okay but seriously, their character metas and headcanons go HARD and the fact that they're able to incorporate that kind of analysis of both their own muse and of their partner is incredible. it makes want to figure out how to interpret and incorporate the other muse into my replies.
lynnie ( @geaesaekki ) has a different writing style from mine and i appreciate that. rather than showing everything, it's sometimes more effective to simply tell the reader what they need to know. whereas my writing can get roundabout, lynnie's writing style is more direct, straight to the point. it makes her writing accessible to her partners and that directness is actually something i'm trying to work on here ^^'
WEAKNESSES.
honestly, i feel pretty confident in my writing style on here ( my prose is a very different story ); it's not perfect, but it's mine. That being said, i have a tendency to take too long to get to the action of my threads or even to the main point. because i prefer to show most things rather than tell, it can bog down the pace of my writing and also the speed at which i get my writing done :'D
this goes hand in hand with point one, but i also have a bad habit of overexplaining my character's interiority out of fear of not giving enough context. this is something i've also noticed in my prose ( though i do manage to cut it out of my drafts ^^' ) and am working on. trusting the reader more to pick up the details i want them to.
i also think i might need to get more comfy with describing bodies/physical description? it certainly would make writing sensual scenes a bit easier ^^' as of right now, writing appearances, etc. has always been something i've turned off by. but who knows if that'll change one day.

he would never have imagined that the roar of the floo - depositing dumbledore, grave and jewel-toned and immaculate, and harry, covered in ash and sand, shell-shocked and deservedly triumphant and fucking fifteen, in the kitchen - would make him long, for one intangible second, to be a child again, and to not know what was coming, and the emerald whoosh! to be his mother getting home to bollock him about something or other, while reg stood behind her smirking and mouthing you’re a prick, and james lurked out of sight in the mirror in his breast pocket, and he could feel him giggling vibrating against his heart.
harry is told about the prophecy; sirius sees a morning he was never supposed to survive until, and he muses on the concept of luck.

when it's your comeback stage after 2 years, you can always count on rúben for always having your back. and rúben finds another reason to fall in love with you.

note: none but sweet, sweet rúben teheee but as usual, i happen to write at dawn so ofc this is not proof-read.
“where are you?”
rúben chuckled at the question you fired as soon as he picked up the phone. you never did that, not saying hello, darling, and he could only assume it was due to the nerves slowly kicking in. after all, tonight was going to be the first time you’d come back to the surface of the showbiz world after 2-year hiatus post the break-up that stunned the world with your ex-boyfriend.
“i’m pulling up, meu anjo,” and he didn’t lie, you’d heard the intangible, muffled words exchanged between your boyfriend and someone presumably the hotel’s valet driver. “miss me much?”
missing rúben would be an understatement. with all the preparation for your first comeback stage, at the BRITs nonetheless, you’d been whisked away for far too long for your liking. you really couldn’t wait to the life you never thought would suit you—cheering him by the side line week in and out.
“you know i always do, my love.”
and you wasn’t lying, too. for there’d been countless timea he spotted your teary eyes over the facetime calls you did during this whole comeback fiasco. his presence the past year had been nothing but the biggest support system you could ever ask—your muse, your pillar altogether—and it felt weird not to be around him. it took everything of you not to succumb to temptation to just fly yourself out to manchester.
if you weren’t being brushed with make-up for final touch-up, you’d tackled rúben in the biggest bear hug you could give him the moment he stepped into the suite room. you’d settled for elongating your arms in the air for him to take, and he, perceptive as ever, brought the fingers he’d missed tangling his with to place small kisses all over the back of your hand.
“hello, my sweet darling,” he said as he kissed the small spot on top of your rose gold band. it didn’t escape him that you’d only worn the small ring he’d given you, their couple ring, on your left while your right was adorned by more numbers of jewelleries. “how are you?”
“the thought of you on your way here is what drives me to survive, honestly,” you grasped back the small pressure he gave your hand in assurance, just what you needed. only rúben knew trivial things like that, and that was why you wanted him more than anything for this monumental moment for you. “i feel like throwing up the whole day.”
which you could, by the way. rúben had seen it first hand back when you released your newest album for the first time, fright and nerves were all over your face—for what the public’s reaction, for your fans’ reaction. for rúben’s reaction, too, especially the fact he knew it by then there’d be a couple of songs directed towards your ex, as well as the beautiful journey that led your to him.
thankfully, he was so relaxed about it because “if it wasn’t because of him, i wouldn’t have had you now.” he considered your album to be your way of honest expression, your freedom of speech, and you just happened to be a good storyteller at that.
“i’ll be the one holding for your hair, meu amor,” he responded to you, as easy as breathing, as he pulled up the stool with his free hand in hope he could ease off the cold sweats breaking underneath your skin. “but your beautiful make-up would be ruined. can you puke that after the red carpet, at least?”

the crowd went insanely wild at the sight of you descending the limousine with rúben helping you on the step.
you’d hinted your new relationship on the last album, but had never answered the accusations of how the lucky guy was. you’d only described him in your lyrics, but had always dodged the direct questions of who it might be. none of them mentioned rúben, though, which somehow gave you mixed reaction because while you were happy no one could catch the hint and thus left you with some space to date around the past year, it was also sad because people didn’t consider rúben into the nomination when the hints were as clear as the sky.
but that wasn’t why he was here, regardless. you needed him to be here—with you, for you, by your side—or else, you’d combust. he was one of the few people that could understand the level of pressure you were currently under, and he was the only one who knew how to help to alleviate them. so, might as well reveal him to the rest of the world while he did so, relieving you both the endless pursuit of hide-and-seek with the paparazzi whenever you go somewhere with him.
you’d heard people screaming in amazement and wonder why and how rúben got there, with you of all people in tow. some women were hysterically shattering your ears with oh my fucking god i cannot fucking believe this, while some journalists were typing ferociously to break the news of the most attractive couple grazing the red carpet.
for the last part, you couldn’t deny that. you both had matched the concept of your attires for the evening. him wearing a satin ultramarine blue suit, the same shade you’d gone crazy about since the last time he wore the colour when representing his country in the world cup; you wearing a satin ultramarine evening dress with a thigh slit form he’d gone crazy about since he last saw you wearing a similar fashion to one of your date nights. with both of your visual supporting the fabrics, it was safe to say you could pride yourself in making it to the best dressed couple award.
but none of it all was enough to conceal the nerves grippling you from the deepest part of your inside. you’d jumped at his touch the moment he landed his hand on the small part of your back gently, and you have never reacted that way to his touch. you’d blinked rapidly every time flashes getting to your eyes, you were also visibly confused about where or who to see every time your name was called.
“breathe, meu anjo,” he pulled you closer to him, hiding the slightly trembling hands by engulfing one of them to his. “you’re doing great. everybody loves you.”
at his words, you let out the breath you didn’t know you were holding. at the sensation of his fingers made a circling motion on top of your hips, you closed your eyes and counted to 10—a trick he taught you before he stepped onto the pitch. at the kiss he placed on top of your head, you opened your vision again to look at him. fuck the people screaming around you.
he sensed your line of sight, so he glanced down at you. your eyes never failed to convey how grateful you were to him, to every step he’d taken with you, and it was one of the things he loves about you. so just to be fair, he said the same words silently through the embrace he gave you, burying his face by crook and nook of yours like you were two pieces of puzzle fit perfectly against each other.
the sequence—of him turning you around before hugging you tightly—made it to become the most popular video and gif on the internet that evening. followed closely by the moment camera caught on rúben’s expression as soon as you did your ending pose on the stage.
he stood from his seat to applaud you before everyone else, eyes never darted anywhere else but you on the stage. when he said you were the best storyteller, he wasn’t downplaying. you had your way with music, with words, with your expression and you dared to bare yourself while doing what you loved the most. you captivated him, as you always do, with those skills you sharpened everyday despite the fact you were naturally born with it.
combined that with the amount of efforts he knew you’d put into, he was visibly so proud while giving you the biggest standing ovation. and he was, because you were one of the most hardworking person he’d come to know of. your work ethic contended his, and it blew him off the waters the first time around, but instead of feeling hurt he’d lost to a woman, rúben respected you a lot more than he already did.
for him, nothing was sexier than a woman who’d earned her place and respect fair and square. nothing was sexier than you being applauded and appreciated by tons of people in the room, and tons more from their TV screen back home, for what you had and you will achieve. and he’d never felt so lucky to have met you, dated you, called you his in the room full of people that could’ve taken his place.
the smile that was etched on his face matched your growing one, and for someone who wanted to take a step back from the limelight that was directed to him due to his relationship with a public figure, rúben surely didn’t intend to shy away from catching the air kiss you blew his way.
the moment you took a seat beside him to join him for the remainder of the prestigious event, rúben couldn’t help but pull your seat so close to him he practically had you in his arms. he immediately kissed the side of your head, the side of your neck, down to your shoulder blade where your off-shoulder dress exposed them for his liking. “told you you’d smash it.”
the words enticed laughter from you because you knew rúben’s always right, but you couldn’t help the jitters gnawing you earlier. with the laughter, rúben felt you relaxed the way he usually found you when you were both inside your best sanctuary called home, despite being in a very public place, doing the biggest PDA you both had ever done during the past year you were together.
“thank you for being here, my love,” you settled back your figure well and comfortably against rúben’s chest, strong and sturdy like his presence in your life. truly your pillar of strength in every way the words might mean. “i couldn’t have done it without you.”

Despite their differences, happiness seems to be a stranger to Idia and himself. He fails to recall when he started wanting the Ignihyde Housewarden, when he started to crave his company. Every day that passes where he hadn't heard of him, his day would go painfully slow and he'd feel as if he's missing something terribly. It didn't help that the presence of the Ignihyde Housewarden is unbearably scarce.
But he's quick to make peace with that, accepting that he's somehow developed a crush, or that he's in love. The rational part of him agrees that Idia Shroud is a terrible choice for romance, but it's not something he gets to choose, it just happens.
But more and more as Jade realizes his feelings, he also realizes that it's not reciprocated. He views Jade as his junior, someone younger rather than his equal. Most would assume that Jade dislikes being treated like a child; in truth, he didn't mind, but now he loathes it more than ever.
It's until he notices that Idia isn't actively seeking happiness. He just sloshes through his days, squandering them on online games while he hides in his mancave.
Jade never thought about happiness himself until this very moment. All of a sudden, the very concept of it feels alien to him. What was happiness to him? He knew what would make him unhappy, but he'd never thought of what would make him happy - It seemed to be something so far away, so intangible, so unreachable. Perhaps this is what Idia feels, too.

strongly negative criticism of religion under the cut / traumaposting
the idea that religious beliefs and practices should be allowed to exist free of critique, an idea that rests on the concept of "sacredness" which marks certain topics as being exempt from mockery, criticism, and challenge...is very insidious. i can acknowledge that critique is itself does not happen in a vacuum and directing a disproportionate amount of it at, say, muslims at a time when global islamophobia is on the rise is a way of masking islamophobia under other banners (feminist / progressive ones, generally) - that indigenous religious practices have also targeted in this way as a way to proselytize christianity... that still shouldnt allow anything to exist beyond challenge.
there is no amount of marginalisation that entitles you to hold religious views that justify discrimination against other people, at the end of the day. and proselytization/conversion isn't the only vector of harm contained in religious belief, beyond even its effects on the behavior of people who believe. hinduism is the easiest example of what im saying. while indians, as racially marginalized and colonized people on a global scale, experience oppression, many indians also benefit from the caste system, which is an explicitly caste practice that has superseded hinduism and spread to other religions in india. brahminical hinduism does not convert or proselytize, however. it is an inherently exclusionary practice. that is, there is practically no way to "become" brahmin in an official, sanctioned sense. you are either born one or not, as with all castes. the conversion mechanism of hinduism is more accurately an appropriative one; it subsumes other religious traditions and practices into hinduism, and these communities are accorded a place in the caste hierarchy without their consent.
this is why, when people say that people should respect all religions, im inherently suspicious. what is "respect"? i do not believe what you believe. i have no allegiance to the things you hold sacred. nothing is inherently sacred. why should i accede to your beliefs about the world, simply to comfort you? why should i pretend it makes sense or that it's equally valid? what are you demanding respect for? is it something intangible and unknowable, in which case why should i care, or is it something material, in which case your rights entitle you to non-interference (i will defend your right to do as you please, in the same way that i will defend someone's right to do drugs or take hormones or wear what they like), or is it a practice that continues only because it always has, without consideration for what this practice signifies or who it leaves out?
religious people, in my experience w them, tend to be prone to a persistent fragility of thought. not only do they want to believe whatever it is they believe, they also want me to act like this is a sensible thing to believe and act on, and they're highly injured when i won't play along. like no, i don't want to do your rituals so you can pretend that we're homogeneous in our beliefs, so that you are freed from the inconvenience of divergence or critique. i don't want to act like there's a reason more sensible (or, "scientific") for doing these things than tradition, or that tradition is explanation enough. and i don't want to cede to the idea that i am the oppressive element because i don't agree with them, and that their attempts to bring me in line are neutral and even positive (god is totally real, and even if you don't think so you can still be religious :D)
there is no end to these musings. i just find myself often exhausted with religious people, and i have had to spend most of my life subject to their stupid beliefs and stupid whims and their panicked attempts at reinforcing compliance when i object to whatever is going on.

introduction :
as cousin to the high family of the spring court, you never really felt as though you had as much pressure as your cousins did. and you loved that. because you were never really one for rules, never really one that could be contained or controlled, even as a child. you've always had a destain for authority and being told what to do - a true wild child at heart. and that hasn't changed as you have grown older. you can often find yourself wandering alone in the woods, feeling the most at peace when surrounded by nature and with the moon overhead. everything started to change once you started to get your visions though. at first you tried to keep them to yourself, but with the more pressing they became of things you needed to share with others, very quickly those around you started to rely on you. you very quickly went from having no real purpose to having people hang on to every word you say. you really aren't sure how you feel about it. it feels somewhat nice to be important, but more so you rather just do your own thing, which you still very much go out of your way to do.

We haven’t had a D-ranked magician arrive in Shibuya in quite some time. When dealing with travel between worlds and with space, time as a whole is a wholly intangible concept. The time between worlds rarely if ever often syncs up together. While my second sight had warned me of the arrival of the Mage, it is often too far out, or too sudden to accurately pinpoint without deliberate analysis. It is fortunate that I have had centuries to practice narrowing now what signs to look for with a new arrival from the OutSide. 
Thankfully, the traveler in question is someone I am familiar with- one Fai D. Flourite to whom I have considerable experience with traveling across worlds. While his personality appears on the surface to be amiable, the curse that rests on his shoulders remains unbroken. It seems that he has not yet arrived to that place yet. This is both comforting but dangerous.
It is uncommon for curses to span across worlds, but this is a unique situation to which it is unwise that I mettle with. It is magic that is foreign to this world and it's ecosystem. Introducing any sort of magic on that scale poises vast environmental and societal risk of collapse. I will, however, provide a ward to the Mage to wear to lessen the impact of his magical influence within this world. This should help the stress on his soul as well as not not interfere with the curse.
The following is what I understand to be the constraints of the curse that have to be followed:
If the curse bearer encounters a being that is stronger than his current magical abilities, the curse will activate and cause him to attack and kill the one who is stronger than the curse bearer. 
The beings must be in the same plane of existence for the curse to be activated. 
Those beings who are stronger than the curse bearer but are not magically stronger than them will not activate the curse. With that note, one can exist within the world and have magical abilities and not passively use them and potentially cause the curse to activate. 
Because of this, I have taken precautions to my own safety and opted to interact with Flourite under the safety of the UnderGround’s authority. It is my first and foremost priority that I keep Shibuya safe from the potentially lethal risk of this visit. While I have every belief that the Mage has no intention to harm those in his company, the curse that he bears most prominently is something I must take immediate action with. Intention does not equal control. What happens when the curse is activated is unpredictable.
The Dimensional Witch intentionally directed his travels towards me on account of a debt being paid off. This is not unusual for her as she has done this before. Based on the density of Flourite's soul, there appears to be more trauma since the last time we encountered each other. I will be keeping a close eye on him for further notice until the debt is settled. Should there be continued degrading in quality of the Mages soul, I may need to authorize measures to keep him from destabilizing. 
I will not allow the Composer interfere in this matter.

hanahaki, though not commonly found in modern society, is heavily prevalent in the realm of professional sports.
youll find hundreds of failed athletes with crushed dreams who will tell you of the unspoken pills supplied to every minor league; the home remedies passed down team by team, the ones that slow the growth but can never stop the spread of roots and stems through your lungs.
there are some professional athletes who will keep bouquets of their flowers in their households as a testament to how theyve made it; others are unable to even look at the petals without tasting iron in the back of their throats.
this is no different in formula one; the ever changing nature of the sport along with the limited spots always leave some drivers in the dust, teeth stained red as they feel the weight of their dreams slowly eat away at them until they either pull themselves away or fall out of love with the sport completely.
carlos never thought that hed be one of them.
as the son of carlos sainz sr, rally champion, racing ran in his blood. from the moment he was old enough to get in a kart he was obsessed, and knew that he would be chasing this high for the rest of his life.
and so he did. carlos climbed and clawed his way through the different levels, hunting down positions and points in pursuit of more time on the track, more time among the barriers and burning rubber. until his name was no longer his fathers, but a force in its own right.
and when he signs the dotted line that will bind him to ferrari, he feels his chest swell with the knowledge that he will be driving for the team that everyone dreams of.

it starts as a tickle in the back of his throat. a little discomfort that pops up when the team seems to ignore him at meetings, glossing over his suggestions for strategy and instead focusing on the aspects of his drive that could be improved. pops up when he hears the comments from the italian media, comparisons to charles.
and. well.
he knew charles was always going to be the first driver. that the tifosi would always have high expectations for him as the teammate to their il predestinato. so he buys cough drops and clears his throat and ignores how the rosso corsa doesnt quite settle comfortably over his shoulders.

it becomes harder to ignore through the 2023 season.
this year, he knows that the power dynamics are shifting. this year, carlos feels like he can fight charles and win. and he knows the team can sense it too. he can tell from the whispers that follow him after every race, building in volume as the season goes on and he places the car higher and higher in the standings and charles continues to suffer from a streak of bad luck.
but despite the tightness in his chest and the cough that lingers long enough to make rupert frown, carlos pushes forward. pushes the car to the limits until that one glorious day in singapore; where he stood on that podium and sweet taste of champange the only thing that lingered on his tongue.
he believed, for a single moment, that this would be it. the only non-redbull victory of 2023 would be enough to satisfy the tifosi, that he would finally see his love and devotion to the team returned to him. he enters the offseason dreaming of the prancing horse, of being almost able to grasp it in his hands once again.

carlos finds himself hunched over the sink in the bathroom, petals crawling up his throat after fred calls.
it would be stupid to say that he didnt expect it, but his father always said he trusted too much for his own good.
the call had been short and professional; barely 15 minutes where fred explained the situation, expressed his condolences, and wished him luck on his future endeavors. carlos couldnt remember a word of it.
all he could taste was the iron, overpowering any senses he had until his world was narrowed down to the crimson filling his bathroom sink and the tightness in his chest as he took rasping breaths in between bouts of petals.
there was no denying it anymore. hanahaki, the disease that he was warned continously about, that he thought he would never be touched by, had finally claimed him as a victim.

meet praewa laithomya, better known by her thai nickname: real! she was introduced to aegis international through her father who has ties to the powers that be as a former high ranking thai royal navy admiral and current thai ambassador to korea.
her mother is also no slouch, being a famous thai socialite and direct relative to the former prime minister, and the two would rub elbows with the patrons of the obsidian lounge in hopes they would climb the social ranks quickly.
her older brother was also an agent, though he passed away around the time real completed her own training. it devastated her of course, but she's the type to deal with emotional things in private while publicly carrying on with her life.
nearly seven years have passed since her training was completed, and real has been a valued agent with aegis international ever since. she's known as agent venus, so christened due to her tendency to use her seductive wit to extract information.
she's an expert liar, charming as hell and something of an intangible concept. she keeps a lot of personal details close to the vest, even when it comes to fellow agents. this is due to a multitude of reasons, the main two being: it's a defense mechanism as she's experienced a tough loss already, and it's excellent practice for her work in the field.
that said, she's always very charismatic and friendly, showing interest in the people around her and caring very deeply about the wellbeing of her fellow agents. she worries a lot when other agents get hurt or are in danger and is constantly losing the idgaf war in those moments.
she's also very diplomatic and is careful to remain neutral when internal conflicts arise. she's a rather adept problem solver when it comes to disagreements between agents, especially in the field. she's often brought in to mediate heated arguments which can happen pretty easily in such high stress situations.
she's kinda giving bond girl vibes? very intelligent and sultry and kind of dreamy, but hard to place at the same time.
𝐖𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐏𝐋𝐎𝐓𝐒
𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐊 𝐒𝐏𝐎𝐔𝐒𝐄. despite the depiction of them given, these two aren't romantically involved at all, but they work together so closely and so often, they've become the best of friends within the agency. pairing them up on the same mission usually has top notch results, as they play off one another so well.
𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐈𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐃𝐀𝐘𝐒. you and real went through the rigorous training for aegis international at roughly the same time, so you've seen real at emotional lows no other people have which makes her feel sort of strange around you. it's almost as if you know some horribly dark secret about her, despite it all being perfectly reasonable.
𝐌𝐈𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐋𝐈𝐍��. though it was but for a short time, you worked alongside real's brother pim towards the end of his life. you were even on the mission where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. ever since then, real has looked to you as an important link to something she's lost, and enjoys spending a large chunk of her free time with you.
𝐀𝐒𝐒𝐎𝐂𝐈𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒. passing glances and kindred eye rolls were essentially the bulk of your relationship with real when she'd first moved to seoul, as you were both often dragged to boring galas and dinners by your equally influential families. now that you're both adults and working for aegis, you've been catching up on each other's current lives.
𝐒𝐄𝐄𝐍 𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄. a mutual friend within the agency decided it would be absolutely hilarious to intentionally set you and real up on a 'blind' date, despite the fact that you are very much familiar with each other. in fact, you've never really gotten along that well, even with real's sparkling mediation skills. when you realize the situation you're in after arriving to the date, neither of you are sure where to go from there.
𝐀𝐋𝐌𝐎𝐒𝐓 𝐖𝐀𝐒. you and pim had made countless promises to each other about the future and were deeply in love at the time of his passing. you still keep the ring he gave you as an intention of marriage, as it's extremely hard to let go of. you can't help but see real as a constant reminder of what you lost and still find it somewhat difficult to be around her even all these years later. A four-legged entity, armored as if in a shiny black carapace. Like a beetle forged from darkened steel...Hmmm. Why does that description sound so very familiar?
Ah, yes! I have seen this contraption trundling about town! Yet surely that cannot be the same deadly Omega of which you speak? Such a tiny thing, and its chocobo-like companion seems so sweet and inquisitive...Fascinating. You say Omega's prime directive was to improve itself through battle. Thus did it conduct an “interdimensional experiment” following its awakening in the present day. A process through which it hoped to define─and ultimately adopt─the intangible strength of mortal spirit...
And the being known as Alpha was created to facilitate this pursuit? Yet how does one define the heart of man? We never question that we all possess such heart, and I have witnessed myself how unyielding hope can manifest with palpable effect. The underlying concept, however, is nebulous at best. If we lacked the terms to describe it, would we even recognize its existence within ourselves? Put another way, should we lack the means to be aware of such indefinable strength, could it still potentially exist?
Pray excuse my philosophical musings. I am merely entertaining the possibilities. Yet what is a minstrel for, if not to entertain the idea of that which might be? If Omega's experiment had continued a while longer, would it have arrived at the answer it sought? Whose to say?

HIBISCUS: How does your muse view the gentler, daintier things in life? As things worth preserving & caring for, or things only bound to wither & disappear?
On average Rafal tends to see daintier concepts through a detached lens, enjoying them and recognizing them from a respectful distance due to the strong impression he has toward being undeserving of those things.
Regarding gentler things like love and friendship, it's understandable considering the majority of his formative years and his entire adult life was spent as Nil's imposter. Any happiness he experienced during that phase felt like duplicity- precious moments and experiences meant for someone else, forming his imposter syndrome in a some literal sense of the term- and that mindset even one thousand years later takes considerable effort to change.
The time spent with Nel in Lythos was a stolen treasure in Rafal's own words. He reflects over it in the light of nostalgia, already measuring a retreat from his rights to their bond and not fighting to justify his place in it. Their bond being something he could reciprocate and enjoy, but not anything that would last forever due to the imposter role he played. Nel's gentle nature to Rafal would surely shatter once Nel understood who he really was beneath the facade, so rather than considering their time to be just a pleasant memory, it was also an hourglass on limited time, a joy fated to run out of sand.
Rafal: "You were so gentle and giving with me. So kind. I began to think of you as my one true sister...even now, the memory of our time at Lythos Castle...is priceless to me. But that treasure is a stolen one."
Examining him from another important lens, the beauty of the world is made more obvious to Rafal in his state of post-destruction clarity. Friendships, connections, and communal experiences- all things he reduced to shambles after the actions he undertook in the name of power and Sombron's legacy. His conversation with Ivy reveals a remorseful side of him that expresses empathy for the gentler, daintier experiences that he destroyed. He's asserted as someone who not only identifies the intangible things that others treasure, but sees their value and respects it.
Ivy: "Those unexpected connections are another reason the academy is special to me."
Rafal: "The Ivy from the world I come from must have had similar experiences at her academy. When I think of all the friendships she must have forged... and the effects of my actions..."
During their support, Ivy extends to him an equivocal offer of friendship for his good deeds as 'classmates'. Rafal not only seeks to confirm if the request is what Ivy truly wants, he also exorcises his desire for their special connection out of the equation. He'll be friends- classmates- with Ivy as she wishes, but not as he himself wishes, because when acting with penitence in mind he doesn't consider himself to be in any position to make demands of others. Because in the specific context of their support Ivy's alternate self is someone who he has hurt, the first royal he turned Corrupted in his original world.
Rafal (to Ivy): "If that is your desire, then it cannot be wrong. Your wish is what began this endeavor, after all."
Comparing his response to Alfred and his extension of a bond, however, the nature is somewhat different. Though Rafal thinks of himself as undeserving of friendship and love- the aforementioned gentler and daintier things in life- I don't see that always being the case, thus why I pointed out it being on average. Bonds forged on his own feet, as Rafal and not Nil, or without the distracting anxieties of redemption, are collectively empowering as they should be. It's why Alfred is presumably an illuminating support for Rafal.
Alfred is a weakling of comparable infirmity who pushes himself to be stronger. And more importantly, Alfred once given the full mast of Rafal's sins returns a response of acceptance, eliminating that worry entirely. When given the chance to be 'brothers', Rafal then accepts his offer with only the protest that he be considered the elder brother and not the younger one between them. It shows that Rafal when weighing himself separate from his need to repent and to be emotionally abstinent can and will engage in the playful interactions that resemble normal life. He can find it in himself to chase after the kind, gentle things he used to spurn.
