Did y'all know it's bizarrely and inexplicably difficult to find the full text of Dylan Thomas's "Altarwise by owl-light" online? A bunch of places have what they claim is that poem but it's only the first few stanzas. I eventually found one (1) PDF of his complete poems, and then I had to extract it from the PDF except I didn't have all the tools I use at work to make that take about three minutes total. FYI if you ever need to process a PDF thru your browser, the IT guys at my work (a very large, very risk-averse corporation) have us use ilovepdf for some tasks that acrobat can't do (but it can also replicate various adobe functions), so I'd recommend that as the least-likely-to-damage-your-computer free option.

ANYWAY the point is, this poem is SO good and SO important and SO cool, and it shouldn't be so incredibly hard to find, so here it is. It's long. I strongly suggest reading it aloud, and don't try to understand anything the first time through, just let it happen to you and really experience the words.

Altarwise by owl-light

I. Altarwise by owl-light in the half-way house The gentleman lay graveward with his furies; Abaddon in the hangnail cracked from Adam, And, from his fork, a dog among the fairies, The atlas-eater with a jaw for news, Bit out the mandrake with to-morrow’s scream. Then, penny-eyed, that gentleman of wounds, Old cock from nowheres and the heaven’s egg, With bones unbuttoned to the half-way winds, Hatched from the windy salvage on one leg, Scraped at my cradle in a walking word That night of time under the Christward shelter: I am the long world’s gentleman, he said, And share my bed with Capricorn and Cancer.

II. Death is all metaphors, shape in one history; The child that sucketh long is shooting up, The planet-ducted pelican of circles Weans on an artery the gender’s strip; Child of the short spark in a shapeless country Soon sets alight a long stick from the cradle; The horizontal cross-bones of Abaddon, You by the cavern over the black stairs, Rung bone and blade, the verticals of Adam, And, manned by midnight, Jacob to the stars. III. IV. What is the metre of the dictionary? The size of genesis? the short spark’s gender? Shade without shape? the shape of Pharaoh’s echo? (My shape of age nagging the wounded whisper). Which sixth of wind blew out the burning gentry? (Questions are hunchbacks to the poker marrow). What of a bamboo man among your acres? Corset the boneyards for a crooked boy? Button your bodice on a hump of splinters, My camel’s eyes will needle through the shroud. Love’s reflection of the mushroom features, stills snapped by night in the bread-sided field, Once close-up smiling in the wall of pictures, Arc-lamped thrown back upon the cutting flood.

V. And from the windy West came two-gunned Gabriel, From Jesu’s sleeve trumped up the king of spots, The sheath-decked jacks, queen with a shuffled heart; Said the fake gentleman in suit of spades, Black-tongued and tipsy from salvation’s bottle. Rose my Byzantine Adam in the night. For loss of blood I fell on Ishmael’s plain, Under the milky mushroos slew my hunger, A climbing sea from Asia had me down And Jonah’s Moby snatched me by the hair, Cross-stroked salt Adam to the frozen angel Pin-legged on pole-hills with a black medusa By waste seas where the white bear quoted Virgil And sirens singing from our lady’s sea-straw.

VI. Cartoon of slashes on the tide-traced crater, He in a book of water tallow-eyed By lava’s light split through the oyster vowels And burned sea silence on a wick of words. Pluck, cock, my sea eye, said medusa’s scripture, Lop, love, my fork tongue, said the pin-hilled nettle; And love plucked out the stinging siren’s eye, Old cock from nowheres lopped the minstrel tongue Till tallow I blew from the wax’s tower The fats of midnight when the salt was singing; Adam, time’s joker, on a witch of cardboard Spelt out the seven seas, an evil index, The bagpipe-breasted ladies in the deadweed Blew out the blood gauze through the wound of manwax.

VII. Now stamp the Lord’s Prayer on a grain of rice, A Bible-leaved of all the written woods Strip to this tree: a rocking alphabet, Genesis in the root, the scarecrow word, And one light’s language in the book of trees. Doom on deniers at the wind-turned statement. Time’s tune my ladies with the teats of music, The scaled sea-sawers, fix in a naked sponge Who sucks the bell-voiced Adam out of magic, Time, milk, and magic, from the world beginning. VIII. This was the crucifixion on the mountain, Time’s nerve in vinegar, the gallow grave As tarred with blood as the bright thorns I wept; The world’s my wound, God’s Mary in her grief, Bent like three trees and bird-papped through her shift, With pins for teardrops is the long wound’s woman. This was the sky, Jack Christ, each minstrel angle Drove in the heaven-driven of the nails Till the three-coloured rainbow from my nipples From pole to pole leapt round the snail-waked world I by the tree of thieves, all glory’s sawbones, Unsex the skeleton this mountain minute, And by this blowclock witness of the sun Suffer the heaven’s children through my heartbeat.

IX. From the oracular archives and the parchment, Prophets and fibre kings in oil and letter, The lamped calligrapher, the queen in splints, Buckle to lint and cloth their natron footsteps, Draw on the glove of prints, dead Cairo’s henna Pour like a halo on the caps and serpents. This was the resurrection in the desert, Death from a bandage, rants the mask of scholars Gold on such features, and the linen spirit Weds my long gentleman to dusts and furies; With priest and pharaoh bed my gentle wound, World in the sand, on the triangle landscape, With stones of odyssey for ash and garland And rivers of the dead around my neck.

X. Let the tale’s sailor from a Christian voyage Atlaswise hold half-way off the dummy bay Time’s ship-racked gospel on the globe I balance: So shall winged harbours through the rockbirds’ eyes Spot the blown word, and on the seas I image December’s thorn screwed in a brow of holly. (Lets assume that you and Usagi have managed to have a relationship, and have decided to take a vacation on Second Earth with Usagi.)

In one of the many Inns, you and Usagi are taking advantage of the alone time you both wanted. It was quiet, peaceful, and you longed to be held in the strong arms of this samurai rabbit. This was a nice change of pace to the chaos of life back home. Everyone wondered where you were going on vacation. You just told them that you were going to visit Japan... which technically isn't a lie since Usagis world was Asian inspired.

Usagi ordered some sake for you to try. It... really wasn't bad. But soon enough you found yourself looking at him, eyeing him up and down. Lustful thoughts invaded your mind. This isn't the first time that you've thought of spending the night with him, what it'd be like to have him inside you, what kind of a lover he'd be...

"Y/n, are you alright, my love?"

Usagi had a smirk on his face. Your heart skipped a beat. Did he know? Did he notice the desire in your eyes?

"Y-yeah, I'm fine..."

He just softly chuckled. The way it sounded sent shivers up your spine. He sounded... so sensual, so sexy, so... ugh! You felt loopy, giggly, and wondered if it was actually because of him or that you were just drunk.

"Are you sure about that?" His brow ridge raised. "I can see you looking at me... Is there something on your mind?" That smirk is still plastered on his face.

You blushed, feeling your ears and cheeks grow hot. You were flustered. When he playfully teased you you couldn't help but to be. You just hid your face in the sleeves of the kimono robe you bought from home.

He gently laughed. "Oh, my little take..." He scootched closer to you, wrapping an arm around your shoulder. "You're so adorable." He dropped a kiss on top of your head. It was silent for a moment until he spoke up.

"You know, I'm really glad you decided to spend your vacation with me. Part of me was... hoping you would. I've been craving you, your touch... your soft lips..."

Your heart sped up and hot air filled your lungs. His other hand gently tilted your chin up so you were looking at him. The look of love and admiration his face held was enough to make you melt.

"Usagi....~" you softly whispered as his thumb brushed back and forth over your bottom lip. His touch was warm and soft. Your eyes are half lidded with love drunkenness.

"You're so beautiful like this, my love..."

He took your mouth with his, giving you a soft and slow kiss that took your breath away. You held onto him as if he was the anchor that kept you from drowning in the sea of lover's delights. The makeout session slowly turned into something heated, more hungry, as you both couldn't keep your hands off one another.

"I want to show you... how much I love you, y/n."

His hands rubbed up and down your body, going over your legs that weren't covered by your kimono (one time Usagi thought you were wearing a kimono that was meant for a small child because of how short it was and how much of your legs it showed). As he did that, your own hands explored his body. Your fingers ran through the soft white fur on his face, down his neck, and down his chest.

Both of you now fully disrobed, he pulled you into his lap and in the lotus position. His heavy breathing matched yours. His half lidded eyes gazed back into yours, mouth kissing you so deeply and passionately while keeping you close. Your hips grinded against him, showing him just how eager you were, rubbing your arousal against his own.

He moaned before softly chuckling. "Be patient, love. I need to make sure your properly prepared to take me." His digits slid between your legs and slowly entered 2 fingers inside your entrance, stretching you. Your sensitive insides tingled with every slow thrust. BNHA Observations, speculations and assorted info: Todoroki Mansion (Part 5: Bedrooms)

So, in order to write my fic, I spend much time observing canon scenes, comparing the manga and the anime version, take note of details, translations and info in them as well as finding out how are some things called.

Since what I noticed/speculated/found out can be of use for other fic authors I thought to share as well.

School Briefs III "Dramatic Makeover!" School Briefs V "Awkward Year's-End Soba"

OBSERVATIONS, SPECULATIONS AND ASSORTED INFO:

Through the story we don't really get to see all the bedrooms in the house, we only see the room in which baby Fuyumi and toddler Touya slept, the one in which Natsuo and Touya slept and the one in which Shouto (baby and child) slept, as well as the room Shouto had in U.A. dormitories which is said to have furnitures that match the ones he had in his room.

Due to what we see we can draw up some common point and then analyze differences as well.

The bedrooms in the Todoroki Mansion are washitsu (和室), which means "harmony room" but which is the name used to mean "Japanese-style room".

It's a room characterized by a tatami flooring (Tatami (畳) is a type of mat used as a flooring material in traditional Japanese-style rooms)...

and sliding doors, be they Shōji (consisting of translucent or transparent sheets on a lattice frame) or Fusuma (vertical rectangular panels often painted)...

....and, if the particular room is also meant to serve as a bedroom it can have an Oshiire (押入れ), a built-in space where bedding items (futon mattress and pillows, etc.) but sometimes also clothes or item people do not usually use are stored.

I'll spoil you a bit and tell you the Todoroki are always shown sleeping not in cribs or western beds but in Futon (布団), a traditional Japanese style of bedding...

...whose complete set consists of a Shikibuton (敷き布団 "spreading futon") mattress...

...and a Kakebuton (掛け布団 "covering futon") duvet.

The pillows used are Makura (まくら) pillows, which are generally firmer than western pillows.

HOW ONE REACHES THEM?

The bedrooms we're shown seem to be not on the ground floor but on the first floor. We aren't shown where the stairs are so it's hard to say which way one has to take to reach them, but the visual seems to imply they can be reached by the engawa on the first floor since that's what's shown to us after showing us Touya and Natsuo's bedroom... and the place from where Shouto watches his siblings.

Since when Enji reaches Shouto while the latter is watching his siblings from it and, planning to bring him to the training room, he leads him in the direction opposite to where the entrance is, it's likely there should be stairs to get on the ground floor in that direction, though it's possible there are more in the opposite as well.

THE FIRST FLOOR ENGAWA

So I've been told the corridor above the engawa at the ground floor also qualifies as engawa (縁側/掾側) or en (縁) since it's also an edging strip of non-tatami-matted flooring, usually wood or bamboo which run around the rooms, on the outside of the building.

The one we're always shown has a view on the Todoroki garden.

In addition to the wooden railing, it is enclosed by glass (actually, the first time the anime showed it, the glass was missing and Shouto could touch the railing but then they retconned the scene in season 6 and drew it so that Shouto didn't rest his hand on the railing anymore).

Plenty of Shōji doors with a lower door panel open on it, while the floor is in wood.

Does those Shōji doors lead directly to the bedrooms?

It's hard to say, as characters seem to enter in the bedrooms ALWAYS by Fusuma doors and not by Shōji doors and in the "School Briefs" it's said Shouto's bedroom had a Shōji window.

What's more, when we see the inside of Natsuo and Touya's room, in the anime we're shown the one on the opposite side of the door is clearly a Shōji window... while in the manga we can't really see it well but there's furniture in front of it so I doubt it's a door.

Whatever, let's focus on what we see of them.

BABY FUYUMI AND TODDLER TOUYA'S ROOM

We don't really know if this is their bedroom or they're sharing the bedroom with their parents. They were clearly put down for a nap, and left under Enji's supervision, so it would make sense for their Futon only to be out and not for the ones of their parents.

Contrary to what many fanfics say, they don't sleep in cribs but they have baby Futon.

So, behind Enji we can see Fusuma doors, which in the manga have same sort of drawing on the lower part while in the anime have a stripe on them.

In the manga those doors could be the door to get inside the room, as well as the door to an Oshiire.

In the anime they seem more like the door to an Oshiire, since we can see a Shōji door with no lower door panel on the left. The anime adds some furniture to carry baby necessities and a pillow with giant plushies. Oddly enough and differently from the manga the floor in the anime doesn't seem to be a tatami one, but it likely is meant to be.

BABY SHOUTO'S ROOM

It's hard to say if it's the same room in the manga, as we can't see well the Fusuma doors. It's clearly not the same room in the anime as the Fusuma doors are different but at least now we can see the tatami mats.

Hard to say if this is meant to be Shouto's room or if Rei is keeping him to sleep in their bedroom and only later Shouto will get his own room, through, same as when Touya and Fuyumi were small, it would make sense for Rei to keep him sleeping in their room as it would be the best way to check on him during the night.

CHILD SHOUTO'S ROOM

While not a lot is shown, we get a glimpse of child Shouto's bedroom. The manga only shows us the Futon, the anime shows us what we call a Shōji lamp pending on the ceiling.

"School Briefs 3" confirms that "The Todoroki family house had square, wooden fixtures that hung low from the ceiling. When it was time for bed, one needed only to tug the string dangling a few feet above one’s futon."

It's unclear which furniture the anime put near the bed.

TEENAGER SHOUTO'S ROOM

Sadly we never see it but "School briefs 3" though, due to dealing with Shouto moving to the school dormitory, let us known which furniture were at home in his room.

"The kids were allowed to use their bed, desk, and dresser set furnished by the school or to bring their own furniture, so Todoroki was now looking at the wadansu dresser, fuzukue desk, low zaisu chair, and futon straight from his room at home, as well as a cardboard box containing his clothes and other small necessities."

We'll see the furnitures Shouto brought from his home (I guess they're extra, as when Shouto goes back home his room isn't empty) in the manga and the anime when we're shown his dormitory room so let's look at it as a way to get an idea of how the furniture in Shouto's room are.

A wadansu (和タンス/和箪笥) dresser is a typical Japanese Tansu (箪笥) chest of drawers/cabinet, like the two we see at the right.

They come in plenty of shapes. The one of which we catch a glimpse in the right should also be a type of wadansu.

A Fuzukue (文机) desk is a low desk...

... Shouto can sit using a Zaisu (座椅子) chair, Japanese chairs with a back and no legs. We see though that the one SHouto uses is slightly taller than the ones that were in the Todoroki dining room.

We also see he has what we call Shōji lamps.

Inside they have a light bulb but this kind of lamps, as well as the square, wooden fixtures that hung low from the ceiling the Todoroki have...

...are based on the Andon (行灯), a paper-covered wooden stand housing an oil lamp. The paper was meant to protected the flame from the wind. Nowadays though, the oil lamps had been replaced with light bulbs but the name remained the same so that what for us is Shōji lamps, for Japanese people is still caleld Andon.

By the way, the ones that are meant to hung from the ceiling (and are large and flat) are called Hachiken Andon (八間行灯) or just Hachiken (八間), while the lamps Shouto has on the floor, which are the most common indoor type, are called Oki Andon (置行灯) and are mostly vertically box-shaped, with a stand for lighting a lamp (or, nowadays, hosting a light bulb) inside and, in the past, used to have a handle on the top for carrying. Some had drawers at the bottom.

Long story short, Shouto's furniture have a very distinct Japanese feeling.

"School briefs" seem to imply Shouto's room has a Shōji window, not a Shōji door...

"…Todoroki’s gaze settled on the window next, and he noticed the curtains provided by the school.

No Shōji window panels either…

Still feeling like something was off, he walked to the window and absentmindedly opened and shut the curtains. He was used to the curtains at school, but never in a room where he slept."

and

"Fine, fine. Your Futon's drying by the window in your room. Why don't you take it down and lay it out?"

TOUYA AND NATSUO'S ROOM

If Shouto's furniture has a distinct Japanese feeling, things change with Touya and Natsuo's room. But let's go with order.

They too have a Fusuma door...

...and Futon beds...

...but you can already notice that the lamp is of the western kind, not a Shōji one and the lampadary on the ceiling also seems a round western one.. (though it's really hard to see it well and I might be wrong).

Still, there's definitely a more western feeling in this room as again, the lamps on the desks are western ones and so are the desks and the chairs.

There's also a tansu in the background, but it's less similar to the traditional ones which Shouto has.

Considering the desks and the chairs should have been brought when at least Touya was old enough to speak up, it can be they reflect Touya's tastes, which might be less traditional Japanese furniture oriented.

As Fuyumi isn't shown sleeping in the room nor there's a third desk for her (the one next to Touya's is filled with toys that seems to belong to a boy), we can assume she got her own room while Natsuo was left to keep on sleeping with Touya. Hard to say if later, after Touya's death, that room became Natsuo's only or he moved to another room.

At the left, on the wall we don't see, we can speculate there's probably an Oshiire.

As said before in the anime on the opposite wall there's clearly a Shōji window, we can't be so sure in the manga as the Shōji seem to go lower but still there's a furniture placed there so... I don't know.

What we know is it shouldn't be the room to the Butsudan, as that room is meant to be one in which the family communicate with deceased family members and make offerings to them and, likely, existed prior to Touya's death in honour of Enji's deceased father (and, possibly, his mother), never mentioning the room has a Shōji door instead than a Fusuma one.

We also know that none of these rooms is the one in which Enji hit Rei after discovering Touya burned himself again as the furniture in that rooom match with the ones in the tv room.

WHAT ABOUT ENJI AND REI'S BEDROOM AND FUYUMI'S BEDROOM?

They aren't shown but they likely are still at the first floor, still washitsu with Fusuma doors and Shōji windows and they likely sleep in Futon.

Shahed Saleem creates mosque pavilion as a "reconstruction of migrant histories"

London-based architect Shahed Saleem has created a colourful pavilion in the shape of a mosque, which has been erected at the V&A museum as part of this year's Ramadan Festival.

Saleem, who is of Indian heritage, designed the pavilion for the Ramadan Tent Project's annual festival, which celebrates the holy month of Ramadan.

He drew on his own lived experience as a second-generation immigrant for the design while aiming to capture the collective feelings of distance that are sometimes endured by the wider Muslim diaspora.

This led him to design the pavilion as a reconstructed mosque with different architectural motifs and bright colours acting as various fragments of identity.

"As a child of immigrants I have experienced and learned how to negotiate different cultural worlds," Saleem told Dezeen.

"I have seen how migrant communities deal with loss and distance from homelands, and how they attempt to reconstruct and reassemble cultural memories and histories in a new place," he continued.

The pavilion is made up of elements found in mosque architecture including arches, a dome, a staircase, a roof and a mihrab – a semicircular niche that orients the direction of prayer.

"The pavilion represents this by showing historic fragments as being collaged and held together in a new structural frame," Saleem said.

"There is an overall sense of porousness and precarity, suggesting that the new narratives created through the reconstruction of migrant histories and experiences is an ongoing and dynamic process."

Saleem built the Ramadan Pavilion from plywood sheets glued and screwed together with steel brackets and fixings, while glulam timber was used for its structural and reinforcement elements.

Meanwhile, the minaret – the red and pink striped tower – has a vertical steel post and steel-framed base. In traditional mosques, the minaret is built into or stands next to the mosques and is used to call Muslims to pray.

"Through the colours, finish and shapes, I wanted to give a sense of fun and playfulness, to suggest a childlike innocence and also to give joy," Saleem explained.

"This is because issues around migrants and Islam in Europe are highly politicised, and the aesthetics of the pavilion suggests that joy and commonality is also possible and offers another way of engaging with other cultures."

For reference, the architect turned to the Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A's) collection of prints and photographs of mosques and other examples of Islamic architectural design, as well as the architecture of British mosques from the 1960s to the present day.

"Each of these elements has been derived from 19th and 20th-century drawings and photographs in the V&A prints and drawings collection which depict historic Islamic architecture from north Africa to India," Saleem said.

"I have taken references from these images to create the elements for the pavilion. The pavilion is therefore a postcolonial reinterpretation of colonial representations of the Islamic world."

This year, Ramadan begins on Wednesday 22 March and lasts for 30 days. The month is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection and community.

The Islamic calendar follows the lunar cycle, which means that Ramadan falls approximately 10 days earlier each year in the Gregorian calendar.

Visitors to the Ramadan Pavilion will be able to attend a series of curated events, performances and workshops.

Mosques have been used as sources of inspiration for other installations around the world. Saudi Arabian artist Ajlan Gharem's Paradise Has Many Gates installation reimagines the traditional mosque as a cagey, steel-wired structure.

At the Islamic Arts Biennale in Saudi Arabia, Pakistani architect Yasmeen Lari designed three dismantlable mosques to demonstrate the potential of bamboo.

The Ramadan Pavilion is on display at the V&A's Exhibition Road Courtyard in South Kensington until 1 May 2023 as part of the Ramadan Festival.

He'll do anything to ensure the safety of the people he cares about

On a sadder note, I think this is because of what happened to his family

Tanjiro will often think about that night whenever he has nothing to do or it's too quiet, which gives him time to think

This causes him to surround himself with lots of commotion so that he doesn't have to think about it

He's actually grateful for Inosuke's rambunctious energy because it's a great distraction

Boy can't keep a sword

He has to have a new one made and delivered at LEAST once a month

It's gotten so bad that whenever Haganezuka visits Headquarters or Butterfly Mansion, everyone helps Tanjiro hide, that way Haganezuka doesn't try to kill him

Even if the sword isn't for him

Haganezuka secretly likes bringing Tanjiro new swords though, because he knows that they're being put to good use

He's still kind as ever

That kind, sweet, compassionate part of Tanjiro that everyone saw via his subconscious?

Yeah, it's still the same

And that's never going to change

It's funny to watch Nezuko run from Zenitsu's advances because sometimes she'll shrink down to the size of a small child to go places that he can't

You can't tell me that she doesn't have different noises as responses since she has to have the bamboo in her mouth

A high pitched "mmm" means that she's pleased

A low "hmm" means that she understands and is determined to fulfill the task given to her

Nezuko can be sweet but she's also pretty fierce too

I mean like, kicking Inosuke's ass in training fierce

He doesn't really mind though

She doesn't seem to care what others think of her when the find out she's a demon

Honestly, sometimes she likes the advantages of being a demon, like helping protect Tanjiro and things like that

Don't get me wrong, she still wants to become a human again, more even than Tanjiro, but a demon life does have its perks

I like to think that she can tell the difference based on the fact that she never tried to hurt Tamayo

There's just something about Nezuko no one can quite figure out

Maybe it's the hypnosis, or maybe it's just her pure heart

Nezuko is golden and NO ONE will tell me otherwise

2017 BJYX Timeline : At First Sight.

Everything starts with a blank canvass. Oh we painted each others lives inch by inch. from black, gray and blue to colors we never thought existed. Two photos from different places, longing to be one. 

Let’s start from the beginning of this whirlwind timeline. There will be very minimal interaction between our boys, but this will also be a good time to see how they were before working together. I wanted to paint a picture of  XNINE’s Xiao Zhan and Idol Wang Yibo. Before their names got tied to the Untamed and each other.

They were doing their own thing, working hard with their careers, no clue that one chance meeting will be so important. Warning, this post is video links, image and information heavy. I am missing some stuff because this hell site refuses to save things and continues to glitch.

03242017 : The story starts when XNINE was a guest in Day Day Up. When asked, they always say that this is the first time they met. However, they did not interact at all.

The Ballad of Shimura Danzo (taken from: Born from Winter Ash)

The Ballad of Shimura Danzo Arc I (Born from Fire)

 No mercy.

It is the phrase that Shimura Danzo grounds into the malleable skulls of his burgeoning army of adolescents. Danzo walks tall with his hands clasped behind his back, squinting through the noonday sun as he watches the young boys in the training arena. He has a favorite. An indomitable youth with moonlit hair; a trait, no doubt, given to him by the gods. They have a habit of marking their favorites and Danzo has learned to recognize the signs.

The boy is naught but nine years old, and already he is fast and strong. He listens with eager ears and watches with careful eyes. His movements in the arena are meticulous, and he has yet to be defeated by an adversary. He is a tolerant warrior, and Danzo is most impressed with the youth. He watches him use the bamboo Shinai to knock his opponent off his feet. Obito lands on the ground, the air whooshing from his lungs as he stares up at Kakashi and holds his injured ankle. “Breathe, Obito,” Kakashi reminds him. “On your feet.” He offers his comrade a hand.

Danzo strikes Kakashi on the back of the wrist with the flat edge of his dagger. The crack is loud enough to draw attention from nearby sparrers. Kakashi inspects the smarting welt on his wrist. He looks up at Danzo with a frown on his face and anger flaring behind his lucid eyes.

“We do not help our enemies, Hatake Kakashi. Why are you offering this boy your hand?” Danzo slides his dagger back into his holster and looks at the boy expectantly.

“Obito is not the enemy, Hersir. He is my comrade.”

“And how will Obito become the best warrior he can be if you are always there to carry his weight? Obito relies on you too much. You only think you are helping him Kakashi, but you are indeed enabling him to be weak.” Danzo leans forward, leveling his gaze with Kakashi. “If Obito is to become strong, you must show him no mercy.”

Kakashi frowns at Danzo, and Danzo sees the wheels of thought turning in his mind. Danzo thinks he is getting through to the lad, but Kakashi believes in a different code and no amount of manipulation on Danzo’s part will cause Kakashi to change his mind.

“Finish him,” Danzo instructs.

Obito, lying on the ground with his elbows propped beneath him, looks up at Kakashi with parted lips.

“Hersir?”

“Make him fight for his spot, Kakashi. The Black Army does not tolerate weakness. Make Obito prove that he belongs here.”

Kakashi does not move. His hand tightens around the Shinai.

“I said,” Danzo repeats, “finish him.”

“He’s wounded–”

Before Kakashi can finish his sentence, Danzo lunges and reaches for the boy’s Shinai. He wrenches it from his hand, but Kakashi leaps when Danzo swings. He rolls to the ground, scooping up Obito’s abandoned weapon and uses it to parry off Danzo’s swift attacks. Kakashi is very small compared to the Hersir, but he is fast and strong for his age. He manages to block each of Danzo’s strikes, but Danzo leaves no room for Kakashi to present a countermove.

Danzo means to teach the boy a lesson. If he will not do as commanded, Danzo will break him until Kakashi’s will bends to his authority. He strikes the boy hard in the ribs, and Danzo is sure he hears them crack. Kakashi’s face pales, but he does not let go of his weapon. The boy plants his feet, leaving his right side wide open for the strike. Danzo sees the opening and he means to take it.

He would have taken it, that is to say, but the boy pivots and brings his Shinai down hard over the side of Danzo’s head, right above his ear. Danzo’s vision blackens at the edges and stars crackle and sputter like fireworks in his head. He feels the ground beneath his knees. Suddenly, Kakashi is the same height. The boy is looking at him with wild fury and Danzo knows he has struck a chord.

“No mercy,” Danzo pants, wavering on his knees.

Kakashi cries out and brings the Shinai across Danzo’s mouth. He manages to break a tooth and the taste of hot copper spills over Danzo’s tongue. He falls to the ground, laughing as he spits blood onto the dirt floor of the arena and smiles.      

The Hokage sees everything from her window.

Arc II (Born from Ash)

Malodorous smoke spans across the night sky and shouts and cries from the burning village are heard through the blackened trees. The white-masked man thrusts a small bundle into Danzo’s arms and he expects the thing to cry. Ash from the stable fire rains down through the gnarled bare branches of the surrounding trees, settling like freckles on the babe’s small, heart-shaped face.

Danzo looks at the girl; the crown of her head adorned with soft pink curls. He thinks her family named her adequately; for her hair is the exact color of Sakura blossoms. Oddly enough, the girl’s pink hair is not her most notable feature… She is gazing up at him with eyes so green Danzo is forced to think of the spring-time forest after a rainstorm. They are the eyes of a witch; so wide and so bright – undoubtably given in favor by some infernal siren goddess. The child’s birth was prophesized by the gods, after all, and Danzo seeks to use her gifts to exact his revenge on the accursed Black Army.

He thinks only of his success as he climbs into the saddle of his war horse, tucking the babe within his cloak as he rides out into the night with his men following close behind.

The baby never cries.

Arc III (Forged by Iron Will)

Sakura is ten years old when Danzo begins training with her. He looks for signs that her powers will manifest, but he sees nothing. She is a good warrior. Smart and capable; a force in her own right. She is small and works hard to prove her worth in the training field. The boys don’t take it easy on her, but Sakura never yields and she does not complain. She shows determination in the face of adversity. Danzo cannot help but see the parallels between she and his former favorite prodigy. It is for that reason Danzo chooses to watch Sakura from a distance. He does not wish to be reminded of Kakashi. With any luck, it won’t be his blade that cuts Kakashi down when he takes his final strike against Konoha.  

His plans are shaping up nicely. His army is growing, and he is building allies outside of Kumoga borders. It will still be years before his army is ready to take on the Konoha elites, but he will test their strength and determination before he sets his plans to motion. Sai shows promise with his mage abilities; a very useful trait that Danzo can’t wait to exploit. He trains more careful with these Kumoga’s warriors. He can’t risk getting ejected from Kumoga before his plan comes to fruition.

The Raikage knows nothing.

Arc IV (The Birth of a Phoenix)

The night sky turns red, a mirror of bloodshed, from all the lives that were lost in battle. There is a thick haze, choking out the stars so that no light shines through. It is a cold, unforgiving night. The wind howls with the death mourners and smells of frozen copper.

Danzo counts the warriors that return home and he notices that Sakura is not with them.

Sai is injured. Omoi supports most of his weight as he carries him through the village gates. “What happened to Sakura?” Danzo asks.

Sai’s face is a ruin of blood and tear tracks. He works his jaw, but he cannot say the words that are stuck in the tangled nest of his throat.

“She fell,” Samui answers beside them. “I saw a warrior from the Konoha village stab her in the side. She’s… gone…” Samui’s words are barely a whisper.

Danzo clenches his fists and thinks of what a pity her wasted life was. She never came into her Healing powers and yet Danzo feels her loss like a swift punch in the gut. He tells himself it is because he won’t get the chance to use her against Konoha.

His mind involuntarily conjures images of the babe with big green eyes and he remembers that she never even cried when he took her from her home…

Arc V (Born from Retribution)

The warriors from Kiri are heedless. Danzo admires their stamina and thirst for blood. They are a savage nation, behind the progression of time, and easily persuaded with gold and marauding. They lack a strong figurehead and Danzo effortlessly slips into the role. They follow him without question and are eager to strike the Black Army.

Danzo does not tell them that most will not return.

The Black Army is strong. They will survive this particular attack.

Danzo tells the Kiri army how to get onto the mountain without being seen. He instructs them to take whatever strikes their pleasure in the raid. “Burn the village to the ground if you must,” Danzo tells them. “You will only have a chance at penetrating the barracks if you draw out the warriors. Our goal is to weaken them.”

“Lord Hersir,” one of his men addresses him. “Our attack will only serve to anger them. They will come looking for us when it’s over.”

Danzo presses his lips into a thin line. This one is smarter than he looks. “We want them to attack Kiri,” Danzo says, enunciating each word with careful articulation. “The rest of the Kiri army will be here waiting for them. My allied forces will join in and the Konoha elites will be severely outnumbered.”

Danzo doesn’t say this aloud, but he is uneasy that he hasn’t received word from the clans surrounding Konoha. He suspects The Spy of the North has intercepted his messenger hawks. No matter. Danzo doesn’t need the alliances of those neutral clans. With half the Kumoga army under his wing, the warriors from Kiri, and allies from Waves, the Black Army won’t stand a chance against him. As long as they march on Kiri, Danzo will take them at the river crossing.

The Black Army will be his for the taking.

Arc VI The Down-spiral of a Hersir

After the fallout, Danzo leads his newly split forces into the woods as night falls like a cloak behind him. They left so many wounded, but it is of no concern to him now. Those who stayed behind in Kumoga are now his enemies. Danzo made himself perfectly clear: join him, or forever be ostracized. After he takes the Black Army, he will eradicate what’s left of the Kumoga warriors and leave the nation completely defenseless.

Danzo works his hands into fists, grinding his molars.

Sai chose to stay behind.

Years of training flash through Danzo’s mind – all the effort and special attention he paid the boy was all for nothing…

Danzo has never feared the gods, but he wonders now if this is his punishment for taking the child prodigies from their cribs so long ago… Sakura died in battle and Sai, his most notable progeny, had chosen to stay behind with the wretched, poor excuses of Kumoga warriors. Sai wasn’t even Kumoga! Perhaps he should have been honest with the boy about his true lineage, but Danzo could not tell him of his interference… After all, he had needed Sai to trust him.

All for nothing, Danzo repeats over and over, like a poisonous mantra that coils through his mind.

It is of no matter, Danzo tells himself… their losses will be of no consequence; the plans of attack are already placed in motion. The Black Army will be his in a fortnight.

JINGYI  ,    IT GIRL!

a waitress at wanmin resturant, alongside other part time work. works to help her family out of the debt her late father left them with. despite having nothing to her name, jingyi is quite popular amongst the liyue citizens, proving quite the trendsetter despite of her wardrobe of hand-me-downs.

i.    full name qi jingyi. born on june 23rd in liyue.

ii.    born to a family of adventurers. the middle child of three children. her father was an adventurer who gambled away their life savings and became in debted to the fatui. he attempted to escape when the fatui came knocking at their door, but died soon after as the fatui gave chase, he died when jingyi was twelve. because of this, jingyi holds a great distaste for the fatui and snezhnaya in general.

iii.    jingyi is close to her older sister, who works with the liyue qixing, but she almost despises her younger brother. being a baby, most of her savings and money goes towards sending her younger brother at school in the future, since both herself & her sister could not. her younger brother was also adopted off the streets of liyue a little after her father’s death. her mother is a sickly older woman.

iv.    jingyi’s talent is pipa playing, something that the several clients of wanmin has complimented her on. despite having little to call her own, jingyi’s most remembered memory is her mother yelling at a younger jingyi for buying a second hand pipa from a vendor in liyue. she still has it, although it’s nothing but broken strings and rotting wood by now.

v.    jingyi is what they call a trendsetter. despite being poor and unable to afford new clothes, jingyi’s style is almost unmatched in liyue, being the object of several young peoples admiration. she mostly wears neutral colours, which match well with her pink hair. she also wears several ribbons (albeit fraying at the edges) of orange & purple in her hair. her usual style contains several layers upon layers.

XIA’ER  ,    LIYUE’S BEST DETECTIVE!

a private detective situated in liyue. claims to be from qingce village. although she’s amongst the best, this detective & her unorthodox ways cause her to be quite the headache for the qixing and liyue in general. because of this, most of her cases tend to be missing cats or the stray child, much to her dismay. previously affliated with the docetic group, now works for a mysterious employer named felix under what she calls the felix & co. detective agency.

i.    full name teng xia’er. born on ??? in (supposedly) qingce village. despite not having a vision, has the constellation eques (knight). previously also known under the codename of mei in the docetic group.

ii.    an orphan, who truly was born in qingce village. as a young child, she lost herself in the bamboo forest nearby. the docetic group, a group of heretics that believed in a true god of teyvat, seek to eliminate all wielders of visions, and sacrifice the power of the false gods to resurrect the true one. as the docetic group, once backed by the underground, had lost it’s funding, it now turned to kidnapping children to raise as assassins. so-- the young girl was taken and never seen again.

iii.    she performed her job well, slipping docetic, the drug the group was named after, into food & drinks of vision holders. docetic was a particulary dangerous drug, it paralyzes & wipes memories in small doses, and is lethal in large doses.

iv.    somewhere in her late teens, mei decided that she’s had enough, witnessing the anguish of children far younger than her, she escaped in the night to confront a millelith, only to betray the docetic group and reveal it’s location to the millelith of liyue. the liyue branch of the docetic group is soon after shut down, the several children either returned to liyue or allowed to wander.

v.    xia’er, with a new name, now works for the felix & co. detective agency, a private agency that operates across teyvat. in liyue for unknown reasons outside of “helping a client”, she causes quite the headache (& suspicion) for the officials of liyue.

vi.    xia’er was originally a brunette, but her hair is currently blonde. often wears blue, a colour she says brings out the brown in her eyes. often seen wielding a fire blaster, courtesy of her detective agency & sponsors in snezhnaya.

YVES  ,    THE CAT OF MONDSTADT!

the infamous thief in mondstadt. known around the city as the cat of mondstadt, or simply, the cat. yves is affliated and well-known inside criminal ring, the underground. often causing trouble in mondstadt, the one incident the cat is most known for is the faded red words across a wall, “HIDE YOUR GOODS!”. in the daytime, yves has a carriage business, promising safe travel across teyvat, especially in these times where thiefs are amuck, wink wink.

i.    full name yves irkalla, born march 14th near the city of mondstadt. wields an anemo vision with the constellation of felis (cat). 

ii.    originally a village girl, her whole entire village was raided by bandits. by the skin of her teeth, yves was able to escape her captor after being granted an anemo vision, throwing him to the wind before disappearing into a breeze herself. she found herself alone & scared in the city of mondstadt when she was only fifteen. she stole to survive, and soon enough became entangled in the world of the underground. the underground is known as a cesspool for criminals, where objects and bounties are given by clients, and thieves, assassins or any other pesky criminal are able to earn money by completely these requests. as a proficent thief, yves thrives in this environment.

iii.    yves had a younger sister, although she ended up in natlan, far far away from mondstadt.

iv.    despite her constant thievery, yves does not hate the people of mondstadt, instead, she quite loves the little city. although she earns enough to support herself, yves wishes that whatever happened to her & her sister never happens again, & a few months after her escape started sheltering several orphans in mondstadt. currently, she shelters plenty of orphans, as well as escaped widows and anyone who needs help, really.

v.    yves is quite flexible, befitting of her moniker. she’s quite lean & fit, although her untied black hair makes a dramatic entrance quite impossible (especially when you’re literally the wind itself). yves has a pair of red eyes and often wears her signature smirk upon her face.

Feverish and delirious and …

 Her sandals muted by years of exercise and habit, she carefully approached the tall figure laid on the grass. The features of the young woman were still, as she advanced, feline. Only her black eyes translated vigilance, intelligence and a hint of curiosity now.

She clutched the freshly acquired little folds of white linen to her chest when she finally reached the sight unfolding in front of her in skinny endless limbs, like sad dried bamboo branches, dislocated and displayed to frighten children.

The young woman gasped.

If it weren’t for the tremors that shook his body (if she dared call the sad sight before her a body) she would have thought he was dead.

 Francisco’s chapped lips moved through gasps and clattering teeth, eyes transfixed on the emerald blue sky. What a beautiful day that was. All the birds of Japan sang, the lords unfurled their red and blue fans, the maidens played in joyous circles, brides in white silk smiled, black teeth shone in the bright daylight and little toddlers babbled in their cradles. Geishas played their instruments, moved their white fingers on the thin strings and Christians died, and Christians trampled on holy icons, and Christians drowned in the deep, deep black ocean.

sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris.

Et ne nos inducas in tentationem,

 Francisco thought that the time had finally come. White angel wings batted before his eyes, and he smiled.

 Fleeting fire sparks died in the dark, distant howling haunted the night. Francisco heard far angels’ chants as light deserted his vision. Little by little, the voices diminished, then they ceased. Francisco opened his eyes, drawing in a deep shaky breath.

“Padre”

White sheet after white sheet, they fell at her feet. Little Virtue with little hands. Who would have ever known. White sheets stained with rust colored blood that mingled with the earth’s dirt. She wiped and wiped, hours after hours, fresh white sheet after stained bloodied one. They landed on the cold floor of her poor hut, like dried rose petals.

In vain little Virtue tried to remember her prayers, none came to mind as she wiped and wiped. Dry hands trembling as if touching a sacred relic.

Wasn’t he?

Now she washed the body of the priest with her tears. Layers after layers of his torn clothes, she peeled them off his fragile frame, eyes tracing his sacred wounds with reverence.

The fire swelled in the center of the room, cast dancing shadows on the martyred body, like it did once on the wooden god on the cross, ribs exposed for the Roman’s spear.

Black grateful crescents met amber.

The priest’s hands fled to his martyred nakedness, and pain exploded through his veins. He winced and she cried again.

She had her hands joined in supplication, prayers she forgot existed left her lips, only for him.

“Angel” he whispered, a small smile fighting the pain inside.

Little Virtue brushed his wet curls, clearing his sweaty forehead.

“I thought angels had taken me to His side, at last…”

She nodded.

“But it was… you”

She nodded.

The stars moved in the sky. Francisco sang holy prayers, his tired voice barely ghosting Little Virtue’s ears and she listened and she wiped his forehead and she cried.

“They killed them all. They thought they killed me too.” She wept more so.

“Forgive me father for I have sinned”

He smiled.

“Welcome back, child”

The night curled on itself, the fox and the owl howled. Francisco closed his eyes. Little Virtue dreamed of paradise.
