we all know how incredibly busy hiraeth has been this year.  from performing for their continuously sold-out tour to gracing multiple magazine covers,  appearing in high-profile fashion shows,  and racking up prestigious awards at major ceremonies thanks to the runaway success of their million-selling first full album,  their presence and impact has been nothing short of unstoppable—  even in the face of challenges and rumors!

and with the unreleased songs they’ve teased on tour,  such as vivae’s juno and the main vocalist’s energetic love me like this,  angels and many others have been thrilled to hear more from the group.  but as time passed,  the most exciting news of the year isn’t just the promise of their haunting concept stealing our hearts once again—  it's the individual opportunities that have emerged for each member,  setting the stage for what’s to come next year.

back in february,  the spotlight was on yvan when it was announced that they would portray this generation’s glinda in the upcoming musical film adaptation of wicked.  this news created a wave of excitement and awe,  especially among fans who have been aware of yvan’s passion for musical theatre and the aforementioned character.  having played roles such as annie,  young cosette,  and others in their youth,  yvan’s casting as glinda feels like a natural yet monumental step in their long resume as an artist.  a video shared by the film’s director showed a teary-eyed yvan expressing heartfelt gratitude when the news was revealed to them,  sobbing,  “thank you so much,  i love her so much  [...]  i promise i will take such a good care of her.”  and now,  with filming set to begin shortly after the tour wraps up,  the anticipation is only growing—  but no one will be as excited as yvan themselves,  of course!

meanwhile,  poppy’s sudden,  and upcoming re-debut as an actress has also been making quite a buzz.  earlier this year,  back in january,  she flew to los angeles for undisclosed reasons,  leaving fans and knetizens speculating as she never acknowledged any of the rumors.  fast forward to october,  and netflix officially confirmed that she will be playing sophie baek,  the female lead in the fourth season of bridgerton.  sophie,  a maid whose literal and figurative masks conceal a mysterious past,  seems like a role tailor-made for someone as enigmatic and captivating as the proclaimed miss korea.  the announcement,  accompanied by a netflix video that immediately went viral,  marks poppy’s first role since her acclaimed portrayal of jang man-wol in hotel del luna in 2022.  the main dancer acknowledged the news and the overwhelming support from angels with a lighthearted message on bubble.

today,  billboard released their interview with vivi yoo,  the manager of the angels of asia,  who shed light on what’s next for the group she helped rise to the sensation they are today.  “they’ve been in the industry for,  what,  seven years?  it’s refreshing to see them taking on new challenges and opportunities that are meant for them.   [...]   they may need to leave some space in their schedule for the group at some point during the year,  but they’re free to do whatever they’d like,  and we will support their decision to step out of the same old,”  she said.  “it’s exciting to watch [them do their own thing].  yvan’s going big screen,  poppy’s stepping into the hollywood spotlight,  and kaia will be going solo.”

the interviewer expressed surprise at the mention of kaia,  especially since she has long been known for showing no interest in going solo and has been the only member without any updates regarding her career.  vivi laughed off the flood of questions she faced,  offering no answers but casually hinting at her excitement for summer.  this playful tease left all of us speculating about what lies ahead for the group's leader as the first member going solo.

with all of this information in mind,  vivi has just hinted that hiraeth may not be venturing together as a group next year…  at least not in the way we’re used to,  though there will be a moment where they will be coming together,  apparently.  but one thing is clear:  their influence will continue to be felt everywhere—  whether on stage,  the big screen,  or through solo projects.  individually or as a group,  the angels are just getting started,  and i’m sure we’re all excited to see how next year will unfold for our angels!

Dulcie i have questions!!!!!!!! i want to know more about the angeline website because is it important to their lore ? can i ask for the context of some of the banners in another ask ?

hi oomfie!  ANGELINE.COM,  also known as THE ANGEL LINE,  is not part of their lore.  it's really just that,  a fan-favorite,  trusted and popular website for all things hiraeth,  made by fans and for fans,  but monitored by the official ANGEL TEAM.  because angels loved and frequented the website so much,  it ended up becoming the go-to official site for everything hiraeth-related,  aside from their actual official site.  in there,  you can find the members' biographies,  everything about each era,  official and high-quality photoshoots,  their group and solo endorsements,  polls,  plus a super active forum for all things aes,  including lore discussions and conversations among angels worldwide.  there's also merchandise info with discounts for registered and official angels and,  of course,  the silly little aegenda i made for their ficfest nominations where angels can keep up with upcoming projects or events.

i actually thought of ANGEL LINE moooooooonths ago when i mentioned i wanted to do a forum / reddit-style posts about their lore because i thought it’d be fun to include angel’s commentaries and everything.  this is something i still want to do,  but i’m not only a busy and lazy bee,  but also a perfectionist!  i thought of making a cute mock-up graphic for the site first,  but i was never happy with any of the designs.  i wanted to use my knowledge as a computer systems engineer to make a little website,  but that was way too extra and way too much work.  so,  i think ANGEL LINE stuff will just stay kind of vague for now until i think of something.

in a way, ANGEL LINE is kinda important to their lore,  yes,  but mostly because it's where everything about them is gathered,  including rumors—though those are analyzed carefully to avoid disrespect to the members and other idols because of course some angels love to throw in x idol into the conversation. just get on twitter if u wanna hear out the latest gossip within the angel community!

i know that each member represents a fruit  (watermelon for kaia,  apple for poppy,  strawberries for yvan)  but i don’t get the memo everyone’s crazy about…?

as we know the group’s concept revolves around the garden of eden,  portraying them as children of mother nature and their god’s messengers,  working to make their worlds even more harmonious:  much like the celestial realm where the angels reside,  as seen in their solo and group debut music videos. and what’s a garden of eden concept without a hint of potential sin?  😁  and these sins are subtly symbolized by their forbidden fruits bc they don’t do anything crazy worth punishing in their solos tbh in winter’s film,  yvan is seen treading carefully around the idea of strawberries,  almost as if walking on eggshells.  but near the final chorus,  they finally give in,  eating the fruit behind closed doors after a seashell seemed to coax them into doing it.  their reaction had a lot of layers bc while they appeared to enjoy the taste,  there’s also that sense of confusion and unease,  as if they’ve crossed a line they weren’t meant to.

in summer’s film,  the fruit doesn’t appear until the very last scene of the video,  where kaia is seen at an empty banquet table filled with dull,  unappealing looking fruits,  excluding the bright and appetizing watermelon,  of course!!  kaia takes a bold bite of it,  and although we don’t see her full reaction because the scene goes dark once she bites it,  it’s super clear from her demeanor that she was excited to taste something both new and inviting,  as if she had been waiting for this moment to happen. 

spring’s film takes a different tone on this.  poppy is seated at the same banquet table from kaia’s video,  but the setting is darker and there’s only an apple on her plate.  at first,  she just stares at it without moving,  but soon she gives in,  taking a bite with visible relief and joy.  what follows are scenes of her devouring apple after apple,  as though she’s been starved of this experience for so long that she can’t help but greedily indulge  😵‍💫

so yeah,  each fruit tells a story.  yvan’s strawberry reflects the guilt and allure of something forbidden yet intriguing.  kaia’s watermelon represents the thrill and happiness of reaching for the seemingly unattainable.  poppy’s apple symbolizes reclaiming something she was denied,  indulging in it without restraint after being held back for so long... and it’s not a coincidence that things started to change once they tasted their fruits…  that’s when they began questioning everything—  who they were,  what they were doing,  and why.  it was like they needed to taste their own identity to finally understand themselves,  symbolized by the fruits they were forbidden to eat!!!!  before that,  they were basically brainwashed into thinking their only purpose was to serve “father,”  even though there was always curiosity and doubt inside them.  kaia and poppy,  for example—  kaia was someone who wanted to reach out into the unknown,  while poppy seemed to know the taste of the apple already,  meaning she had tasted it in the past,  but was punished and forced into staying in the middle for falling into temptation.

    ➥   nothing has been confirmed but yea its most likely.  it also makes sense considering kaia seemed the most intrigued by poppy in her solo bc she sinned.  kaia wanted to know more and even subtly hinted to both yvan and poppy to sin with her (she talked to yvan through a seashell,  and she talked to poppy through her headphones),  so they could break out of the restrictions and see beyond what they were told.  sowwie to all those fans who keep screaming GAYYYY bc they assumed that kaia’s interest in the other two angels was romantic,  but there’s definitely more going on

mmmm no one has fully explored the connection between the angels' fruits and cannibalism,  so i will try to explain using apples and pears hehe

“you are what you eat”:  their fruits symbolize the idea of consuming one's own identity or essence.  they may not have been born from a fruit plant,  but they are still part of mother nature hence them realizing #things when they consumed something that is actually part of themselves.  in a way u could say that the angels consuming their fruit could be seen as self-cannibalism in a figurative sense

cultural or mythological references: there are myths and cultures that involve fruits being linked to the life force or soul of individuals.  in the japanese culture,  the forbidden fruit in shinto and buddhist beliefs symbolizes spiritual awakening or merging with the divine.  in chinese’s mythology,  the peaches of immortality grant eternal life and are consumed to transcend mortality,  symbolizing sacred consumption and life force.  then there’s some korean art,  like kimsooja’s projects,  that seem to explore identity,  survival,  and how people "consume" culture and each other’s lives.  all of these hint at metaphorical cannibalism.

hey everyone  :)  i’ve been feeling nostalgic lately and decided to rewatch some of hiraeth’s old content because i really miss them after watching them in the osaka date of the aengel theory tour.  😢 i’ve never really dived into their lore before bc,  honestly,  it seems like trying to understand the whole thing would give me a major headache lol but i’ve always been curious about their representative colors.  they’re clearly super passionate about them,  but i’m a bit confused.  their colors seem to be different in their solo debuts:  kaia is red instead of pink,  poppy is blue instead of purple,  and yvan’s green instead of blue. i’ve seen a lot of angels talking about THE COLOR THEORY,  but i feel like i need to ease into it…  starting small, yk?  the whole thing feels a bit overwhelming,  lol. i think it would make more sense if they stuck to primary colors  (red,  yellow,  blue),  but instead,  we have green instead of yellow,  and pink and purple instead of red and yellow.  plus,  the fact that their sub-units represent colors??  are those just as important???? any help breaking this down would be amazing!  😅

hiraeth’s lore revolves around circular concepts that symbolize cycles or loops,  like the full moon  (which they strongly embody)  and the color wheels.  their main and initial color wheel,  as shown in their solo debuts,  is based on the RGB COLOR WHEEL,  featuring  red,  blue,  and green as the dominant colors.  these were the colors they represented before they created their own color wheel,  way before they started rebelling against “i’s” doctrines.  as they realized they were being constrained by someone else’s ideology,  they decided to break free,  and their colors transformed into softer,  pastel tones because those were their colors instead of the colors they were given by “i”!  hope this made sense!  :)

both oomfies are right i fear!!!!!!  😭  but oomfie #1 forgot to mention that they also represent another color wheel that i will share at the end of my answer!!  this one is centered around hot pink,  cyan,  and a cute caramel yellow.  these are the colors of their subunits,  and their colors were created by blending their individual and “initial” colors,  with the leader acting as the influencer.  for example,  yvan is the influencer in caendy,  which is represented by yellow/caramel.  kaia leads vivae,  with hot pink as its color.  and poppy takes the lead in faevorite,  symbolized by cyan.

those are not their actual colors!!!  FOR WHY?  because they were “assigned” the color wheel colors by the “god” of their world,  but as they kept exploring and embracing themselves as their own persona  +  allowing themselves to fall into temptation  +  slowly but surely leaving “i’s” ideologies behind,  they ended up developing their own colors.  that’s why kaia is pink  (formerly red),  poppy is purple  (formerly blue),  and yvan is blue  (formerly green).  their colors are more pastel-like,  thooo!!  hence them creating their “own” color wheel that is basically all colors,  just pastel and the main ones being pink,  purple and blue instead of the norm “i” created  :D

ok ok but before this post gets deleted or archived,  i just wanted to point out that the color wheel is absolutely central to their entire lore!!!!  if we consider the rgb color wheel,  yvan and poppy mirror each other,  while kaia stands apart as more of a “bystander.”  she’s not facing anyone directly,  but that only means she’s observing everything from her position,  fully aware of not only her members’ experiences and whereabouts,  but of everything.  yvan and poppy may be equals,  but they’re also pieces of kaia herself

like omg do u guys remember the theory that the angels represent the actual girlies?  i feel like this is a HUGE nod to kaia being the leader and the group’s influencer.  she’s the one who got them moving and encouraged them to step out of a dark place  (which,  in this case,  “i” is acting as d*tto).  she’s always been about letting her members shine,  drawing inspiration from them as her muses.  kaia isn’t just the glue that holds them together…  she’s MOTHER!!!!!!!!!! yvan is influenced by poppy,  their equal.  poppy is influenced by kaia,  her “salvation”.  kaia is influenced by both,  her family.  they just complete each other ok no matter the cycle they repeat ok?

   ➥    i think that’s also why poppy is the center of the group  ^____^  she represents purple,  which sits between pink and blue aaaaaalwayssssssss,  it doesn’t matter who starts the new loop of their life!!!!  poppy literally symbolizes the middle ground.  this ties perfectly with the idea that the angel of spring represents the midpoint of life,  stuck in one place and refusing to bloom as the balance between winter’s indifference and summer’s impulsivity.
