GET TO KNOW YOUR FIC WRITER PROMPT

3. describe the creative process if writing a chapter/fanfic

usually, i base it on the franchise's genre. for example a halo fanfic, i would follow science-fiction rules about writing the fanfic. such as long chapters, complex or expanded lore, military, politics, and so on.

i'll use maybe half a year studying the plot, characters, and lore. and game it myself if possible. just take my time to reflecting on how i interpret everything.

first at the third stage, i begin to talk to other people in fandon, read others fanfics and headcanons etc. without the groundwork, a proper fanfic can't be written. my spn fanfic readers knows this better than anyone.

i tend to mix half plotting and half pantsing the story with the three main plot not changing. the characters have normally free reign, i do not chain them down as long they get from plot point A to B.

17. what do you do when writing becomes difficult? (maybe a lack of inspiration or writers block)

i take a break from writing entirely. indulge in some other fanfics either in same fandom or others. sometimes i play games on my ps5. or watch documentaries, read books (usually classics), manga, cartoons or draw.

i sometimes take fanfics breaks by roleplaying online instead. that way, my writing skills remain sharp.

other times, i go on hikes or travels IRL. or go to the cinema, to the mall to buy stuff or just eat at Baker Brun (mini baker place).

i don't force my writing, ever. that only makes my block worse. i like to write out of habit; that's why i'm dependable about it when i've the energy capacity for it.

43. do you take a sadistic joy in whumping your characters, or are you more the "If you hurt them I would kill everyone and then myself" kind of person?

i do enjoy hurting my characters. i wouldn't have been known as 'the evil writer' without reason. though, for me, is more of a catharsis than actually sadistic enjoyment, because they reflect my own struggles most readers wouldn't pick up on unless i told them about it.

is for a reason my headcanons are rarely, if any, self-inserts. i like to stick to as close to canon as i possibly can. and if that means i've to write scenes the whole fandom will witch hunt me for, i'll. because i write my fanfics to be AS IF THEY WERE ACTUAL CANON from an outsider.

56. what’s something about your writing that you pride yourself on?

that my readers never in my full life of being a fanfic writer, have complained of my canon characters being ooc. that i've great unique concepts which i actually pull off and do my own research on (though, i still daydream of the day i get to have my own beta readers), and that i've no issue taking criticism about my writing and correct where necessary. only from trusted writer friends and readers, ONLY, however.

that my first two fanfics are completed with 50+ chapters. one of them with 13K reads on wattpad too. 🤍

the praise i've gotten from multiple native speakers over the years, that they could've never guessed i was not american or british because i write well enough to be considered as one of them. this means a lot to me, considering i'm mostly self-taught in english. used so many years reading books far above my age range not understanding anything, and barely passing my english grades. the constant judgement i got for not knowing how to write "i'm" or "you're". to now people sometimes asking me if i live in new york, texas, or london. 🥺 for most of my childhood most of the psychologists believed i had dyslexia too (i never did, i just learned to read by complete/recognize words instead of letter for letter, which was greek to me).

also that i combine my knowledge in classic books and the fact i understand many languages into my writing. it creates an unique writing no AI could ever dream about mimicking. is hard; but i always go the extra mile of deep research. my fanfics are meant to be read for anyone outside it too. and all the extra hours i spend just doing research so the characters feel like real human beings. it's worth it in the end.

and that through all my hardships, i found solace in my writing. i don't know who i would be without it. i found friends, i found community, i found people who genuinely care about me. all because i chose that one night on the plane trip from the US to norway, to learn english. i still have the book i read on that plane trip too ... that propelled to where i'm today in skills.

"no but wasn’t my funeral so poignant? they put my face on the $20 note!" okay great glad to know you’re not dead. she watches a game of baseball on TV and just sighs deeply when the camera pans to eliot. next time she sees the team, she compliments his baseball skills. for some reason he mutters something about a sandwich while looking wistfully into the distance.

Hi Madi :) I’m curious to know what’s your characterization of Ghost?

Hi! Ooh I’m so glad you asked.

Tbh I tend to think of these characters in terms of there being many versions of them that exist. Not only because there are just so many takes on him by different authors in this fandom, but also because characters are going to be different based on the context of the narratives they’re in! Medieval Ghost is going to be slightly different from modern Ghost. DDNE Ghost is going to be different from fluff Ghost.

For me, I like to think about Ghost in terms of two things—addiction and possession. I think those are two very key aspects of his character, at least if you’re using his “canon” backstory comics to write him from. (Which I do!)

Ghost grew up in a family of addicts and I think that’s so important to consider if you’re writing a dedicated character study. His dad was an addict, his brother was an addict, and though there’s no direct evidence I think through context clues we can assume his mother had her own struggle with drug use. I’ve read somewhere that susceptibility to drug addiction can have a lot to do with genetics (idk if that’s true, but if it is—), so I think Ghost will have a complicated relationship not just with drugs but with anything that makes him feel good at all. How he reacts to that relationship depends on what the narrative needs.

For possession—if I’ve got the timeline right, Ghost is put on leave after his ordeal in the desert with Roba. What he does with that leave is, he tracks his brother down and helps get him clean, and then moves in with his mom, presumably to care for her too. Ghost’s reaction to something DEEPLY traumatic is to drag his family back together by sheer willpower and KEEP it together, even if that means working himself to the bone to do it. I think when Ghost feels afraid or insecure, he clings to what matters to him very hard. And again, depending on the narrative, this could be good or bad.

So, in terms of the many versions of Ghost there are, I think the best version of him (in terms of behavior, not writing quality), is a dedicated partner, lover, and potential parent. Someone who not only has great self-control, but is also very nurturing and supportive.

The worst version of him (again, behavior, not writing) is selfish, pushy, deeply possessive, and edging on cruel. He hurts himself and others through the way he digs his claws into people who mean something to him. He indulges in his absolute worst impulses and doesn’t care how his actions affect others.

And there are a myriad different versions in between those two!

What is your greatest achievement this year?

I'm just so happy (and a little wistful) to have finished my long fic, Play for Me the Music of Your Heart It's been a long time in the writing (since 2022) and I'm so pleased to have crossed the finish line.

What are your favourite top three fics you've written this year?

What was your biggest pit of despair moment?

I worried myself several times (unnecessarily, but anxiety gremlins) that I would draw a complete blank on the final ch. of my long fic and fail to complete it. I gave the gremlins the finger.

What have you learned?

Tell the story you want to tell. Better to write for yourself and the handful of people the story will resonate with than to force a story you think will appeal to the masses. If it's pulling at you, it's pulling for a reason.--wise words there by gaia that I'm going to leave.

And also, just continuing to learn more about writing, art and the creative process in general.

What fic did you want to do but never made it off the ground?

Nothing that I started that didn't make it, plenty on the idea pile that I want to write.

Did you beta any fics? Any favs you want to shout out?

I did! I've looked at fic for @dat-carovieh, @nightgazings, @tawnyontumblr, there might be others that I'm forgetting and I'm so sorry, but all of you are wonderful writers and it was a pleasure working with you!

What three fics have you read this year that you love?

The Squire's Wife by @copperplatebeech - Good Omens. I have had it marked for later for forever, because 24 hours/day is criminal. It's wonderful! Copper's signature snappy, crisp prose, her wonderfully witty sense of humor and the absolute sorcery she invokes in her dialogue use make this a wonderful read. And of course, she had me at 'music au'.

The Red King's Consort by @okamiwind - This one is Legend of Zelda (BotW/ToTK) and the pairing Link/Sidon. It is one of the most beautiful fics I have ever read, pairings aside. It is scorching hot, evocative, and just lush. It's like eating a particularly rich truffle, and the pining and longing is off the charts gorgeous.

I did a lot of re-reading of comfort fics as well, as this year was quite stressful, so @mia-ugly Slow Show, @sevdrag, Old Vines, I will always love these from the bottom of my heart.

What ideas are percolating for next year?

Let's see...I want to write my own Link/Sidon if the right idea hits. I also have a shorter kink fic in mind for GO as well as a meet-cute that's art student Crowley and figure model Aziraphale. Longer GO fic includes a wildland firefighter Crowley and forest service ranger Aziraphale fic (not 31 chapters again, Someone willing) and we got pretty jazzed about a drum corp AU on The Serpent and the Saint server last night, so...maybe a collab? 👀

I've also been told I need to get cracking on a historical original fic for Liszt/Chopin 😆😏

after discussion with other trusted degenerates, it really comes down to what one considers the crux of bestiality. is it solely engaging in sexual acts with another species, or does it necessarily constitute a crime of morality? considering most societies equate the two (see Lev 18:23), there really isn’t a case for separating them.

but, for the sake of argument: if the former, then yes, BUT I’d argue only if crowley is in full or partial snake form. if the latter, we can assume that snake!crowley and naga!crowley both retain their ability to consent, and it therefore doesn’t hold up as a crime of morality.

weighing both of the above points in equal measure, I would say it is consensual bestiality. bestiality by nature of animal sexual organs being involved, but not morally reprehensible given that the ability to consent is retained.

potentially, all aziracrow is inherently consensual bestiality, as they are another species just taking up residence in a human (or serpentine) corporation. or would that just make them flesh and bone sex mecha? hmm.

First of all, yay! (Who’s your favourite character? lol)

Next, about the au

So essentially why I made this au was really to combine my two main hyperfixations. Not only that, but it’s something I can really experiment with too. Idk, I just thought the concept was cool, that’s how all my au’s go. Now about the characters:

Lev is Ponyboy, the main reason why I pictured lev as ponyboy is how similar the two are. They just got into their teens and are already being put through trauma and tough situations. One large event lead to more problems along the way.

I chose to make Layton as Sodapop is because of the similarities personality wise. Kind, understanding and can light up a room with a smile. But at the same time they both can be protective, empathetic and even angry. Both willing to make sacrifices to support others they care for.

I actually forgot why I made Argent Darry, they aren’t really THAT alike but I guess there had to be an older brother figure.

Risa is Johnny. Johnny is described as a “kicked puppy”, pathetic and beaten up looking. He might seem like a nervous reck but that doesn’t mean he won’t get angry. He’s not just a weak and frail person, he’s got strength and can use it. Risa can do the same too (except she isn’t really shy and nervous like Johnny but oh well) Risa could fight and use her strength if she needed too.

Connor is Dallas, gallant. Dallas is tough and honestly scary. He is a criminal (jumps kids, been arrested, gotten in gang fights, etc..) and seems like a cold person. But with the right people, he can warm up. Especially Johnny. Connor is similar in a way (except he does other things like tranq juvie cops and shit) Both are viewed as tough, brave and reckless. Both care for those they love. Dallas cares for Johnny. Connor cares for Risa (conrisa?) (also I don’t really like both connor and dallas so)

Hayden is Two-bit. Both are goofballs of the group. They can make anyone laugh and are sometimes unhinged. But they still can feel sorrow, hatred and other complex emotions. They aren’t just the funny guys of the group. They aren’t just a comedic relief during harsh times because they are going through said harsh times themselves.

Roland is Steve. Characters with less appearances yet they still have an impact on the story. Steve was rough and carefree. Often having beef with Ponyboy for no reason. Ponyboy only liked Steve because he was Soda’s best friend. Lev would probably feel the same about Roland. Not too fond of him but only likes him because Layton does.

I’m still working around the socs and whatnot but I’ll figure it out eventually.

Anyways, that’s details about the characters and who’s who. I really like the way this au is coming along! Hopefully first chapter will be out soon. (also my bad if my explanations didn’t make sense, I’ve been really out of it lately.)

In the meantime, here’s a wip of the greasers for this au ^_^

Harry Potter or as everyone knows him as, The Boy Who lived, is forced back into the chains of destiny. There is no mistaking the tensions that's rising between the muggle-born, the ones with non-magical parents wizards, and pure blood ones. They chose him to be their ruler in these difficult times.

Draco Malfoy lives a luxurious life, everything he points his finger on, he will get. Nothing is missing for him. That's until his father, Lucius Malfoy, tells him that a Civil War is brewing in the Wizarding World. And Harry Potter its leader.

Basically is a light AU where Draco and Harry are vampires (Draco is a pure - blood vampire prince) meanwhile Harry is a rebellion leader against everything Draco stands for.

Who likes to gift things that will be Used, even if that means Used Up, like honeys or jams or even lotions and soaps. If he can, he'll make things himself, but he can recognize when something is better done by the more experienced (post EW, he starts writing home more, and some of that is getting the Good Shit imported for scale care. He makes his own but it's not as Nice as the stuff made back home. Different equipment, different ingredients, different skills....

........... he likes to gift Urianger Jewelry though. Rings, and chokers and earrings and body chains and necklaces... he may never propose (who is he, to tie Urianger to that, as the Warrior Of Light, drug into the spotlight, constant worries he'll leave for a fight that he finally doesn't come back from?) but they do probably have matching jewelry.... that's probably where his most expensive gifts end up huhu....

Umm, I usually always try to end happily or hopefully, but...probably the longer one I wrote for The Witcher called We Had Words, and an Aversion to Silver, because I started a sequel to that one and didn't finish 🙈

Again, I'm a HEA kind of gal, but Play for Me the Music of Your Heart's ending is going to be wonderful once it posts 😘

Do you write crossovers?

I have in the past (LoZ and Pokemon, idek) and I've drawn for The Witcher/ Assassin's Creed but nothing recent.

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

I did have someone call me out in the comments on PfM about a historical racial slur, but I didn't really consider it hate.

Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I do! I quite enjoy it and I love talking about writing it and learning how to write it better and better every time. I typically write M/M (dick envy is so real), but have written F/M before and even M/M/F/F.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

Not officially, I've had asks to translate, but I'm pretty firm about translations staying on Ao3, so that may have been a deterrent.

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

A few friends and I wrote a series of drabbles for The Witcher fandom all for the same prompt at one point, which was way fun. I also participated in a fic telephone event with a bunch of other writers for GO that was really entertaining!

What's your all-time favourite ship?

Good Omens and Aziraphale/Crowley have me by the throat right now, but I loved writing for Geralt/Jaskier and still enjoy reading fic and looking at art even though I'm not actively writing for them. I have been thinking a lot about Link/Sidon because I was super late to play BotW and TotK so I'm just now diving into them. I also just recently (Thanks Serpent and the Saint crew, you know who you are) developed an interest in a historical figure ship that I may eventually try writing from more of an original fiction perspective...

(I like many other ships but not to the point of *obsession*).

What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?

I have two WIPs for The Witcher that I will likely not finish. I don't like to say never, but it's unlikely.

What are your writing strengths?

Seconding Hermiola here: Dialogue and banter are also my favorite things to write, but I love a good smut scene, and I've been complimented on my scene setting.

What are your writing weaknesses?

Look, punctuation are more guidelines than actual rules...

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I think it's great and I have done it, but having someone make sure your translations are correct is essential. I think this also goes for writing different cultures/ethnic groups/lgbtq and neurodivergent groups. Not just for accuracy, but to be respectful of any group or culture that isn't your own.

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

The X-files, back in college...circa 2009?

What's your favourite fic you've written?

Play for Me the Music of Your Heart. It has been several years in the writing, it has been near and dear to my heart during that time, and...a way to relive and rediscover enjoyment in the years I spent in music school. It's truly been a crazy wonderful journey and so many people have supported it. 💜💜💜
