A pivotal moment in my A.rcane lore is my s/i telling Viktor to do “whatever it takes” to save himself when he’s dying, and I think this fits so well with the overarching themes of the show. Specifically the theme of “unintended consequences of our actions” and how things can go wrong even when you have good intentions. “Whatever it takes,” because I love you and I can’t lose you and I can’t imagine my life without you. But ultimately, encouraging him to experiment with dark magic just leads to more horror and destruction.

In the show, he takes this step (experimentation to save himself) without consulting anyone about the ethics, which does make sense for his character. But I think it’s more heartbreaking for him to be on the fence about it, and for my s/i to be the one who ultimately pushes him to do it. “Whatever it takes,” and he does, and it’s all out of love. And however badly things end, it’s all an unintended consequence of our love.
