❝ You know... I had a pretty wild thought this morning that didn't have something to do with someone getting hurt... ❞ The pair had been rocky since her latest actions. Sia had expressed how disappointed she had been over her actions. It took a lot for Jess to realize that she was right; going off the deep end because she happened to be a bit jealous of the male wouldn't do her any favors. There may not be anything more she can do except apologize and move on. The space from everyone helped ground her, and she could only thank her girlfriend for that. ❝ What if we went to Vegas and got hitched or something... Dreamt about it the other day, we might as well, we've been with each other long enough to know that this is it. ❞ Was it a cheap proposal? Sort of, but it wasn't the official one anyways, she just wanted to know if Sia could see them being together in that way. // closed starter for @decadentias

Jessica felt like an alien trying to get accustomed to earth everytime she learned of a new holiday tradition. There was so much hidden from her. She struggled to keep up. Luckily, the Sia's patience extendeed much longer than the patience she had for herself. She just wanted to be normal and find herself content with the mundanity of life. ❝ I think it's festive. It pairs nicely with the tree....❞ The red head secretly wished for it to be the new year so she didn't have to stress about seeing everyone and buying gifts. ❝ Oh so it's a timed event? We kiss until we lose our breaths or something? ❞ a laugh escaped her at the thought of nearly passing out to prove a point.
THEIR LIFE HAD TURNED A complete 180. Sia knew that Jessica was struggling to adjust to the mundane yet she was doing her best to fit in. The effort counted for something; it meant a lot to her. Sia, on the other hand, had eased into it smoothly. She was experienced. She had built a semi-legal life for herself. It had been fake, of course. However, this life with Jessica was the real one. Every moments they shared was genuine. "Honestly? Not a big goal. I just wanted to be festive." She chuckled. "My idea is the basic. We'll just kiss under the mistletoe for as long as we want."

FNAF The Silver Eyes Adaption (WIP)
The main four: Carlton Burke, John Gorodetsky, Charlotte “Charlie” Emily, Jessica Riley
(Long comments under the cut!)
So update: I’ve been held back by college this year from making progress for this project. I’m in the process of sketching right now, and thankfully, I have a solid script to work with. I’m still debating whether I should make Charlie an Asian-American or not, but I’m loving their designs so far! I also made their colors more muted to fit on the vibes I’m going for with this comic.
As for the changes I made…
With Charlie:
As I said, she’s most likely going to become Asian-American in this comic. No specific reason for this change other than I just get bored of drawing characters of the same euro-centric ethnicity.
No, we’re not doing the robot thing.
Let’s give her trauma so bad, she had selective amnesia instead
Self-loathing club Member #1
She’s 18 in my adaption
With John:
The sweetest boy you’ll ever know. He just wants to be there for you, dude.
Russian-American
Also 18
With Jessica:
The baddest bitch on the block.
She’s more motherly-type now on top of being the leader, and the only active braincell in the group
Have an ever-lasting beef with Carlton (she still cares for him tho)
She’s 19, which is maybe the reason why she’s acting more mature than the others?
With Carlton:
Aw man, he legit became my favorite character in this iteration
Irish-Mexican
Self-loathing club Member #2
Beefs with Jessica for shits and giggles.
Has an even bigger beef with Dave (serious)
I gave him trauma so bad, the tea was BOILING with his family by the end of the series
The plot:
As I said, no cyborg Charlie concept! Definitely no Baby appearance too! I’ll add other characters from the games to substitute for Baby’s omission, can you guess who they were? 👀
Carlton plays a bigger role in my iteration, but I’ll make sure to give everyone a spotlight in the plot!
I tried not to cut as much from the original novel as I did, but I rearranged and added more dialogue into their interactions! I’ll be honest, I may have indulged myself a little too much with the (lowkey) found-family dynamic I gave them
Can I say how much of a babygirl Dave is in my script? No? Awww. Ok :(
My brain is too fried to think of what other changes I made in the plot but my ask box is open right now if you guys are curious about my fan-comic! I’m going to upload Dave, his assistant, and some plot-relevant info dump next (hopefully)!

-One Piece Crossing: Familial Yandere G8-
Okay so I wrote this as a bit of self comfort as Navarone aka the G8 Arc has always been a huge source of comfort for me but let me start this by saying this
NOTHING IN THIS IS MEANT TO BE ROMANTIC OR SEXUAL
FAMILIAL YANDERE’S ARE PEOPLE WHO VIEW YOU AS THEIR CHILD IN A YANDERE SENSE, THERE IS NO ROMANTIC LOVE TOWARDS YOU HERE
IF YOU BELIEVE THAT THERE IS THEN THERE IS NOT
THE REASON I DON’T WANT MINORS INTERACTING WITH THIS IS BECAUSE ALTHOUGH THERE IS NO ROMANTIC/SEXUAL CONTENT. I STILL DO NOT WANT THEM HERE!
Okay now that that’s out of the way, let’s get into it
!-MINORS DO NOT INTERACT AT ALL-!
!-POTENTIAL TRIGGER WARNINGS-!
Sentient Video Games, Stalking, Delusions, Writing Reminiscent of Old Creepypasta, Being Treated like a Baby, Gaslighting (?), Force Feeding, Kidnapping, Off Camera Beating, Execution Mention
!-POTENTIAL TRIGGER WARNINGS-!
!-MINORS DO NOT INTERACT AT ALL-!
Okay so let’s say that you wound up being the next person to come across the One Piece Crossing game like let’s say you found it at some kind of garage sale for five dollars or it was gifted to you by a friend or something
You booted the game up and played around with your characters design for a bit before setting the time and date then picking an island which is when you were finally given the choice between pirates which was a red box or marines which was a blue box
After thinking for a bit, you choose Marines and a villager select popped up where it would be two characters standing next to each other against the background of what looked like a harbor with their names underneath them
You hit random multiple times trying to find ones you would like and after what felt like hours of getting the same guy in a white shirt and a marine hat, you finally found someone you liked which was a red headed man with a big bushy mustache and a blonde dressed in what looked like a chef’s uniform
Their names were Jonathan and Jessica, they even had a line connecting their name boxes with a tiny box in the middle saying “Married!”
They seemed nice so you picked them and off you went to the island, the tutorial was alright if not pretty cozy as you and your villagers went around placing what would become your new homes and once your home was placed
You went inside and placed what little furniture your character had on them before going upstairs to save, you saw the phone up there and messed around with the settings menu that it provided before flicking Immersive Interactions on
After that, you saved the game and put it down for the day to do other things and once you picked it back up. The interactions really were much different as it almost felt like you were playing with actual people
Jessica although she was short tempered was somewhat kind with you and praised you for eating everything on your plate when her husband struggled with eating his broccoli and carrots. She would always actively come looking for your character too if she had found out that you hadn’t eaten or it was a meal time
Jonathan was more chill as he would always be in the most random spots like did you just find a small beach that you didn’t know was there? Jonathan found it first and is currently fishing there. He would always offer for you to join him as well to just sit down and relax until it was time for you to go
There was also one time as well when Jessica had come to tell you both that she had prepared food only for you to suddenly get a bite on your characters fishing rod, you weren’t expecting that to happen during a scripted event so it caught you off guard and next thing that you knew. Your character was being pulled into the ocean with a splash
It wasn’t long before your character resurfaced and a notification box popped up with your character looking embarrassed telling you “I hope that fish likes its new fishing rod because it’s gone now”. The two of them then helped your character out and you all had a small bit of a laugh about it
Eventually a few others moved onto the island having been invited by Jonathan and Jessica, they were people like Drake. Kobato. Mekao. A few others too like a few people known as Shinpachi and Tom
The island was filling out quite well in all honesty and although some of the characters could be a little irritating like Drake shouting at you when he saw you trying to decorate claiming that you shouldn’t be dragging things around like that by yourself as you could hurt yourself or when Mekao got blackout drunk on the beach and you had to clean up the bottles that were left behind when Kobato dragged him off telling him that he needs to cut that out for his health
It was still honestly quite fun despite it and honestly you wouldn’t trade these villagers for the world
Something surprising did happen at one point though and it was Jonathan coming to ask you a question, he was asking you if you would like to move in with him and Jessica as the island was getting bigger by the day and it could help with space
You figured it would be nice to have more decorating space so you selected yes and a little animation of your character moving their things into their home played out. You had a room in their home and they told you that they were happy to have you but gave you a few rules
It was after that when you saved your game and put it down for the day and let’s say that life got busy, you weren’t able to play anymore and when you did have time. You usually found yourself playing something else
However when you eventually returned back to One Piece Crossing, your character was asleep but they weren’t in their bed and instead looked like they were in an infirmary at a hospital or something. Your character had quite the bed head and from what you could see, there were nurses wandering around
That was weird but before you could make your character get up, a few notifications popped up telling you some things
“Jonathan has taken over the island while you’ve been away” “Jonathan has chosen to change the islands name to Navarone” “The islanders have changed the layout of Navarone” among other things but those were the ones that most interested you until…
“Jonathan and Jessica have chosen to adopt you”
That was weird to say the least, you didn’t expect there to be some kind of adoption mechanic like there was a relationship mechanic in the game to determine who was family and who was dating but you didn’t expect it to go as far as adoption
It was a pleasant surprise but in all honesty, you kind of wished that the game would have given you an option to reject it but oh well… You decided to internally blame the developers for not giving the player a say in this sort of thing…
So once the notifications were finished telling you about everything that had happened, you pressed a button to make your character get out of bed only for you to be rushed by the nurses who quickly laid you back down
They were surprised at your sudden awakening and urged you to stay in bed as you had just come out of a comatose state, you were in no state to be up and moving around until they gave you a clean bill of health
So your character was forced to stay in the bed and was shouted at by the nurses whenever you tried to get up, you almost turned the game back off until Kobato appeared and sat down next to your bed telling you how happy they all were that you were finally awake
Proceed to her asking your character all sorts of questions about how they were feeling after having been asleep for so long, you chose from the multiple options provided to you and honestly kinda felt like you were dealing with Mr. Resetti but a much calmer version of him who just wanted to make sure that you were okay
Once you were finally free from the medical area, you went wandering around only to find that the entire island wasn’t just different. It was barely recognizable, you felt like you were in some kind of military base instead of your cozy and fun little island
Honestly as well, you found yourself getting lost quite a few times… But no matter because as frustrating as it was, you were going to take the islands control back from him if the game would allow it
So when you finally reached where he was after lots and lots of wandering, you had your character enter through the double doors and found him talking to Drake about something only for both of them to go dead quiet when you saw them
You barely had any time to go over to Jonathan yourself as he suddenly rushed your character and hugged you tight saying that he was so happy that you were awake, he was even kissing your characters cheeks in a very detailed scene that looked straight out of an anime
Jonathan proceeded to have your character sit on his lap like a small child while he continued his conversation with Drake, you tried to initiate a conversation with him multiple times only to be told “Don’t interrupt”, “You can tell me when I’m done talking to Drake”, and “Sweetheart, Drake is talking…”
It was this every single time until you finally managed to get into a conversation with him only to find that there was no option for control of the island to be taken back from him which was annoying so you said out loud
“I don’t play for a few days and I lose control of the island permanently? That’s such shit…”
Only for Jonathan to respond directly to what you had said like he had heard you…
“I wouldn’t say it was few days, sweetheart… More like you were asleep for a few months… And besides why would you be in charge of Navarone? That’s a grown up’s job…”
Of course you absolutely froze upon hearing that as it was incredibly shocking to hear the character actually respond to what you had said… So once you had saved the game after getting away from Jonathan and turned it off
You checked the manual to see if the game used the microphone but there wasn’t a manual… You were thoroughly creeped out by this and you couldn’t find any information online about the game
Being very creeped out, you decided to put the game back down for a while and just play something else until while you were scrolling through the internet, you saw something that you just had to see for yourself as someone had made an absolutely great story island
So of course to go and see it, you would have to boot up your game again… It couldn’t be that bad, right? It was probably just coincidence and besides… It was probably worth it… Right…?
Debating for an while on whether or not to do it, you eventually came to the conclusion that “It’s just a game, it can’t do anything to me” so you booted it up and found that it was pretty late in game
You were in a room that looked like it was meant for a little kid to sleep in with a bit of medical equipment around you, there were a small amount of notifications to get through but you had your character hop off the bed and off you went
After changing them out of the cutesy blue pajama set with the ocean theming, you knew where the harbor was due to having left the island before Jonathan took it over but you had a feeling that this was going to be difficult with how Jonathan rearranged everything when it became Navarone
There were so many more villagers now too like a lot of those bland looking characters with the same white shirts and marine hats, they almost looked like they were patrolling too as they went about what they were doing
Regardless you kept wandering until you found the harbor which had be renamed to Dock 88 instead of the name that you had chosen for it. Luckily the NPC in charge of it was still there and you were able to input the code for that island you wanted to visit
It took a minute to register causing Mekao to notice you, he started to approach you only for the game to finally register the code as valid and the screen faded to black only for you to hear through the speakers as actual speaking and not the typical little sounds that were made when the islanders spoke
“Hey!! Come back!! That’s kidnapping, you bastards!!”
When the screen faded back in, you were in the typical loading screen for traveling to a new island as your character stood at the front of a boat with a smile on their face as the NPC stood behind them with their arms crossed
The little box at the bottom read your destination and you were excited if not a little weirded out by what had happened until your eyes widened when suddenly the fun little loading screen was interrupted when a cannonball landed in the water next to the boat
Suddenly the NPC’s boat was being raided by the islanders, the NPC’s were all being arrested and chaos came through your speakers as you watched as your character was grabbed and brought onto the ship that had pursued you
Drake was on board and he was shouting orders for the Marines to not let a single person get away but once he saw your character, he immediately switched up how he acted and started asking if you were alright
Saying that he knows how scary that must have been but its okay now and also that’s why you don’t talk to suspicious people
There was no chance for you to respond but soon the screen faded to black again and you were back at Navarone, you were barely two steps in before suddenly Jessica ran up to you looking absolutely panicked with her hair out of its usual bun style
Immediately she embraced you in a tight hug saying that she was so happy that you were okay and asking if those people had hurt you at all She looked to be on the absolute verge of tears like hearing that you had gotten “kidnapped” was some of the worst news that she could have ever been given
Like genuinely, I think you could tell her that her husband died and she would still take the news of you getting kidnapped worse
Soon enough, Jonathan arrived at the dock having hopped on a boat to give pursuit just like Drake had and he swiftly jumped off of it before it had even stopped moving and landed on the ground
He rushed up to you and made it so that the hug that Jessica was giving your character was likely even tighter, the man looked so relieved and he planted a big kiss on your characters cheek that for some reason… You felt like you could feel like you could feel the hairs of his mustache tickling your skin
“It’s okay, sweetheart… It’s okay now… You’re home… You’re safe…”
On the screen, you could seem all of the travel NPC’s being led off of a boat in handcuffs but they all looked really beaten up like someone had personally taken the time to completely brutalize all of them
It made you cringe with how bad their beatings looked, they looked like they would need a doctor with how they were going but Drake just shouted at them that they were going away for a long time and for his men to lock them all up
You knew that they didn’t deserve that so remembering that the game reacted to your voice, you tried to speak up…
“Hey, go easy on them! They don’t deserve that!”
“What are you talking about? Of course they do… They kidnapped you, sweetheart… In fact, they deserve much worse…”
“No, they don’t! I went with them willingly! They didn’t do anything wrong!”
“I think you may have hit your head at some point… You didn’t go with them… All the dock workers reported that you were kidnapped…”
“I’m telling you both! I wasn’t kidnapped! I put in a code to take me to another island that I wanted to see and they were taking me there!”
“Shhh… It’s okay… You don’t have to defend them… You’re here with us now… Back with Mom and Dad…”
“Could you quit acting like my parents and listen for fucks sake?!”
That last part, you said it out of frustration as they didn’t seem to be getting the hint that you were not kidnapped by the NPC’s but this seemed to deeply upset the two of them as they pulled back to look at you
The screen darkened ever so slightly and a chill went down your spine at this, you felt like you had messed something up deeply. You tried to press buttons after a minute of this but nothing happened so you tapped the screen and found your hand going through it
You felt like your wrist was grabbed and suddenly you were playing tug of war with whatever had you, you were fighting for your life as your heart raced in your chest but your fighting was no use as you wound up being pulled through the screen
Instead of landing on something hard, you found yourself landing in what felt like a hug which caused your heart to drop so you opened your eyes reluctantly
You were in the game being held by Jonathan and Jessica…
“We are your parents, sweetie… Let’s get you checked out at at infirmary…”
After that, you were taken away to the infirmary and looked over by Kobato who gave you a diagnosis of memory loss among a few other things that you didn’t really hear as when you were trying to shout that this wasn’t right
They ignored you like they couldn’t even hear you like there was barely even a glance in your direction from them
Jessica asked if there was any way that it could be helped but Kobato simply told them to remind you of how your life really is and to be patient
So after spending the night in Mama and Papa’s bed being cuddled in between them as they didn’t trust you to sleep in your bed anymore, you started trying to figure out how you could get out of this
When rifling through what was apparently your room and making a big mess to hopefully find something to send you home, you found yourself getting in trouble with Drake who scolded you for making such a big mess
You tried to basically enter hibernation in your bed of waking up and immediately going back to sleep but all that did was earn you a trip to the infirmary and Kobato telling you that doing that wasn’t healthy for you and you need to stop doing that
Part of you thought that you could potentially leave the game by getting out of Navarone so you attempted to stowaway on a ship that would be leaving soon only for Mekao to spot you and take you away from Dock 88 saying it was no place for someone like you
At some point you attempted to sneak into the jail to talk to the imprisoned NPC’s to see if they had a way for you to escape only to be unable to find them. When the Marines spotted you, they brought you right back to Jonathan who grounded you and told you that they had been sent off to be properly punished but you had a feeling that executed was the right word
And finally when you got so desperate to escape that you refused to eat anything even if it was your absolute most favorite food until they allowed you to escape, Jessica wasn’t having that at all as she started to force feed you all of your meals
With every passing day, it seemed like escape was getting further and further away from you as every single thing that you did was being stopped by someone
You tried to stay determined and hopeful that you could escape but it was starting to seem like there truly wasn’t one
No matter how hard you tried, you kept winding up in trouble with someone and no closer to freedom than where you had started so as much as being treated like you were a small child by the people who claimed to be your family
You started to give up…
What else could you do after all? It didn’t seem like there was a way out and besides all of these disapproving looks and punishments were starting to make you feel sad like you were sorry for upsetting them so much with how much you were trying to leave them
Guilt started to rise up inside of you and part of you wanted to make up for it so when Jonathan was heading out to fish, he stopped when he saw you standing in the doorway and he looked at you waiting for you to say something
“…Can I come with you… Dad?”
That was when Jonathan smiled and told you that you most certainly could as he took you by the hand and led you outside to watch him fish while sitting in his lap
Part of this felt very relaxing like one of the most comfortable experiences of your life, you even started to get a little sleepy as you leaned into him and started to drift off into a nap. You swore that you could even hear him start to hum to you
And once you were fast asleep against him, Jonathan gently pet your head with one hand knowing that you had completely accepted this as your reality now
You were his and Jessica’s child now, you were never from the real world and never had any family who wasn’t them You had always been from here from the day that you were born and you would stay here until the day that you died if that day ever came as no one seemed to age here
And he would ensure that you would believe you were always from here and that you simply forgot when you were kidnapped from them by those criminals
Not just him either… Jessica, Drake, Kobato, Mekao, All the Cooks, All the Marines, All the Dock Workers…
They were all family here and no one was going to let not just the newest recruit and Jonathan’s daughter escape
You were here forever and besides the save file was already locked away and the game was in the hands of someone new!

Jessica knew well the damaged that abandonment from parents did to a person. She wouldn't have been a ball of rage if it hadn't been for her parents neglect/abandonment. She didn't want to have sympathy for Marianna's husband, but she could see how such a thing could make a man cruel. ❝ That makes sense. Having parents like that are awful. It really fucks you up... Not saying that I agree with him. He shouldn't use it as an excuse to push you to your limits. It's okay if we keep things just between you and I. I promise that I won't tell anyone, anything. You have full control over how this goes, okay? ❞ Taking her girlfriend's hand to kiss the back of it. They were all in a terrible predicament; forced to play a game that none of them wanted to play. Why couldn't they just be with the people they wanted to be with and love who they wanted to love? These arbitary rules made such a mess of things, but there isn't much they could do about it. Jessica listened, not wanting to make her girlfriend feel bad, she was unsure to have a comment. ❝ Well... As sucky as that is, I'm sure everything will work itself out. ❞ That's all they could wish for. ❝ Good. I just want you to know that I'm here for you, babe. You're crazy is just fine with me. ❞ // @kiillerqueen
❝ I think it is because I am still holding onto the Diego that I grew up with. I still remember when he first came to live with us when he was about thirteen. He was a sweet boy , hurt and scared boy. It was my father that turned him into this cruel , selfish , power hungry man. He told me some excuse about not wanting a child steams from the abandonment from his father. He said he'd be an absent father and that isn't what he'd want to be if he was to ever want children. I know that if the truth were to ever come out about my son that would seal the deal of making a fool of Diego. I'd say I could ask him for a divorce but I already know he won't give me it. ❞ Ever since things started with Jessica , Marianna has been thinking about wanting to leave her husband , but she knows that he'd never give it to her. Even if she knows that he doesn't love her. That his love belongs to the woman that he is having an affair with. ❝ When Diego found out he made it his mission to let me know that it was my fault that the man who helped me with this no longer had a girlfriend because of me. So yeah I guess I kind of did ... ❞ Marianna knew that Jamie's girlfriend meant a lot to him which is why she had used her as her leverage to get what she wanted from him. ❝ Fair enough , and as long as this goes on I am sure it is never going to be normal. ❞ A faint smile forming. //@thewcllingtons

911 LONE STAR S4 WRITING ROOM
If you’ve been around this fandom long enough, you’ll know that I’m always curious about who exactly is in the LS writing room each season and how it changes from year to year... now that we’re 3 episodes into S4, it’s easy to get a sense of the full-time writing team. Here’s the list for S4 in order of hierarchy:
[Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, though co-creators of the show, no longer actively write for the show. They were only credited with writing the pilot and both actively work on other productions away from FOX.]
Changes from Season 3 to Season 4:
Trey Callaway [executive producer in season 3], Jessica Ball [co-executive producer in seasons 2 and 3], and John Owen Lowe [guest writer in season 1, staff writer in season 2, story editor in season 3] all appear to have left the show.
Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson have joined the team as executive producers. They are a writing duo known for: Smallville (2002-2011), Beauty and the Beast (2012-2013), Salem (2015-2017), and The Hot Zone (2019-2021), among other projects.
Previous writers Bob Goodman, Jalysa Conway, Molly Green, James Leffler, and Jamie Kessler have all been promoted. Carly Soteras and Wolfe Coleman both remain co-executive producers for season 4, and Matt Solik remains a script coordinator.
You can see previous season’s rankings below the cut, as well as episode credits for all seasons:

Group Discussion: The Quince Project
With summer finally here we thought a fun beach read would be a good idea for our summer discussion and The Quince Project, a sophomore novel by Jessica Parra, seemed like the perfect fit.
Publisher’s Summary: Castillo Torres, Student Body Association event chair and serial planner, could use a fairy godmother. After a disastrous mishap at her sister’s quinceañera, all of Cas’s plans are crumbling. So when a local lifestyle-guru-slash-party-planner opens up applications for the internship of her dreams, Cas sees it as the perfect opportunity to learn every trick in the book so that things never go wrong again.
The only catch is that she needs more party planning experience before she can apply. When she books a quinceañera for a teen Disneyland vlogger, Cas thinks her plan is taking off…until she finds that real life is more complicated than a fairy tale. Cas soon discovers that the party is just a publicity stunt, and she catches feelings for the chambelán. It’s clear that her agenda is about to go way off-script.
But maybe Happily Ever Afters aren’t just for the movies. Can Cas go from planner to participant in her own life? Or will this would-be princess turn into a pumpkin at the end of the ball?
Warning! Spoilers Ahead!
Let’s start off with some fun questions. Since this book is based in the OC (Orange County) the home of Disneyland, there are numerous Disney references all throughout the story. If you’re a Disney “head,” did it work for you, or if you’re not, did some of the references get lost with you?
K. Imani: I’m a total Disney head (fun fact…I actually went to the park one day while reading the novel and got a “I’m Celebrating” pin) so I enjoyed it and was able to catch all the references. I will say that at some point in the story I did feel all the Disney and Star Wars references were a bit overwhelming, but I really did love the way Cas used Star Wars as inspiration for Paulina’s “unquince”.
Crystal: The Disney aspect was really fun for me. That’s super cool that you got to visit Disney while reading. Most of my elementary school years were spent in Orange County, so it’s a place of nostalgia for me. The last time I went to Disney was quite a while ago so the Star Wars references were actually sort of unexpected. I appreciated them though since I am also a Star Wars fan. I enjoy seeing characters or folks in real life being inspired by the things they love. It made me want to go for a visit.
Audrey: I’ve never been to Disneyland and have no particular desire to go. The Disney and Star Wars references that I understood were fun, cute, or thematically relevant, though I will fully admit I know I missed out on references to the more recent movies. It was fine—context provided enough information that I didn’t get totally lost. Both Disney and Star Wars have significant presences in the book, so if you actively dislike those companies/franchises, this might not be the book for you.
Jessica: I’ve only been to Disneyland once and I’m not a huge Disney person – the only Disney movie I watched as a kid was Mulan – so I did miss a few references, but overall, I thought it was a fun touch! Now that we’re talking about it, I do really want to go to an amusement park now…
Cas’s sister Po has a ton of malapropsisms with her sayings. Which one was your favorite?
K. Imani: I giggled so much at Po’s malapropisms, but my absolute favorite that I think I’d love to include in my life and share with my students is “Believing is Seeing.” Her saying became Cas’s mantra but I think it’s a good saying to use to help bolster self-esteem and to become what we imagine ourselves to be. It’s very freeing in a way.
Crystal: I too appreciated the reworking of sayings. One that on the surface looks negative is, “If it’s broke, don’t fix it.” Sometimes we are so caught up in fixing that we don’t see the opportunities of other things around us.
Audrey: Hurricane Po was a delight, and it’s hard to pick just one! I think what I enjoyed most was the times Po got her various quotes right—Cas was quick to pick up on the timing of correct quotes versus when Po didn’t quote perfectly.
Jessica: I’m going to have to choose “believing is seeing” as well. It’s manifesting! I love it. So much fun. Honestly, there were so many great lines.
We must talk about the romance! I don’t think I’ve ever read a book where the main love interest is so forward. How did the romance come across to you?
K. Imani: I actually found the way the romance was written to be very refreshing. Usually the “will they/won’t they” creates good tension between the characters and builds the romance, but this time, with Javi being so intentional about his interest, that it took some “pressure”, if you will, off Cas. She wasn’t focusing on him at all because she was so focused on being the perfect party planner. He was a nice boost to her ego when she really needed it and I found their relationship truly realistic because of that.
Crystal: I too enjoyed that the main focus wasn’t on if they were going to get together. He is that open book for her and I loved that for them. Their story is sweet. His openness was definitely a contrast to her secret keeping so the tension was more a matter of worrying about when everything would all fall to pieces and whether or not they had built something strong enough to withstand the impact.
Audrey: Agreed, Javi’s honesty was refreshingly straightforward, and I liked that he wasn’t pushy about it. He made his interest in Cas known, and Cas was interested right back, so it didn’t take long for them to start dating. Same thing with Po and Paulina! And as Crystal pointed out, the romantic tension didn’t need to be “will they/won’t they” for this book’s structure—the higher stakes would be to have Cas’s lies revealed while they were already dating. It made complete sense to have them, and Po and Paulina, start their relationships before everything exploded. Jessica: I thought it was a really interesting twist on the usual YA conventions, and I enjoyed it! It made space for a different aspect of Cas’s journey. I think writing what comes after “will they/won’t they” can often be incredibly challenging, so I was duly impressed by the departure from convention.
The major theme of this book is grief and the different ways we handle trauma. Cas handled her mother’s death differently from her sister and from her father, with each of them not talking to each other. How did you feel about the various depictions of grief?
Crystal: Having grief within both families was something that helped Javi and Cas bond, but it also showed that families and individuals most certainly have different ways of coping with or living with grief. Both families had times when they didn’t talk about the loved one. Javi and his mom would just veg with dramas or telenovelas which is one of my preferred methods, but they also had times when they would talk. Cas’s dad was doing the avoidance 24/7 and Cas was too in her own way.
Audrey: Grief is messy, complicated, and nonlinear, and the nuanced way the author handled various people’s coping mechanisms in regards to their losses was something I appreciated. The anger Cas had at times toward her sister, and most notably her father, was especially impactful. I totally understood Cas’s warring desires not to upset her father but also being desperate for him to be a father and support his grieving daughters better than he had been.
Jessica: I agree – I really appreciated the different approaches that the author took to depict how people handle grief. And the contrast between Cas and her father, versus Javi and his mother, as you pointed out Crystal, really highlighted that. Just depicting that was so powerful.
K. Imani: I agree with all of you. In fact, it made the story more real to me as there is no “right” way of expressing grief. I found it heartbreaking how Cas’s father expressed his grief and how he didn’t realize he was hurting his children more by it. And when Cas finally told him, it woke him up and I loved that it started both of them towards healing because Cas snapping at her father also made her realize that her actions were a part of her grief as well.
The “Parental Past Tense”, the term Cas created in her discussion with Javi, really hit me, but I do think it was an interesting way of expressing grief. What do you think of Cas creating the term “Parental Past Tense”?
Crystal: That phrase definitely sums up that awkward and painful moment of having to basically reveal that your parent is no longer alive. It’s a situation that often happens out of the blue and there’s always a moment when you can decide to omit using the past tense or just breeze past it. There are layers there because it’s about how the words impact the listeners as well as the person sharing their loss. Again there was contrast with Javi as he has gotten more comfortable with this past tense over time and Cas is just beginning the journey.
Audrey: The “Parental Past Tense” was a hard-hitting turn of phrase. It captures so much in just three words, and I really appreciated it from a language-learning standpoint. It’s something new, something that requires practice, and something that will take time to master.
Jessica: It really was a hard-hitting turn of phrase. Cas coming up with “Parental Past Tense” really says it all about how Cas and Javi approach grief, and Cas’s own struggles.
K. Imani: The phrase hit my heart as well. It made me think of my students who have lost a parent and how they deal with their grief. I feel like the phrase really encompasses what it means to lose a parent and how you move forward.
Lastly, what books are on your summer reading list?
K. Imani: I’m catching up on a lot of reading I was unable to do during the school year for reasons, but I am really looking forward to reading Children of Anguish and Anarchy, the conclusion of the Children of Blood and Bone series. I’ve been looking forward to this book for so long.
Crystal: I have London on My Mind by Clara Alves on hold and am waiting for Where Wolves Don’t Die by Anton Treuer. I’m also excited to get to The Worst Ronin by Maggie Tokuda-Hall. As a teacher, summer is prime reading time so I hope to get to those and many more. And though it doesn’t come out until the first week in August, I am really anxious to read Hayley Dennings’ debut This Ravenous Fate.
Audrey: I have a road trip this summer, so I’m hoping to cross off a lot of books on my list. I’m especially looking forward to Asking for a Friend by Kara H.L. Chen. There are also several horror anthologies out this summer that have caught my attention, including We Mostly Come Out At Night edited by Rob Costello, The White Guy Dies First edited by Terry J. Benton-Walker, and The House Where Death Lives edited by Alex Brown, and I’m hoping to get my hands on some (or all) of them. Jessica: I have Dear Wendy by Ann Zhao and Bunt! by Ngozi Ukazu at the very top of a huge stack of books on my desk and they are staring me in the face right now! I’m also interested in reading Asking for a Friend by Kara H.L. Chen and The Worst Ronin by Maggie Tokuda-Hall. And thank you for the reminder about the next Children of Blood and Bone book! I need to go put that on hold. So much to read!!

Maybe it's just me, but I've finished season 1 of Jessica Jones and I'm really frustrated with the writing of Luke Cage. His only personality trait seems to be "has a dead wife". There's a whole other conversation to be had about the idea of fridging a woman for a male character's growth. But the worst part is that isn't for his growth, it's the entire foundation. Like after him being on the show all season here's what I feel I know about Luke:
He drives a motorcycle.
He works at/owns a bar (his wife didn't put in his name for some reason, and it maybe was their dream).
He has tons of casual sex. But he doesn't like complications or connections, including what seems to be any sort of family or friends.
He has superpowers, doesn't know how he got them, and doesn't intend to use them as a hero.
His wife dies tragically, he's mourning her, but until a lead popped up, he's not actively pursuing her killer.
That's it. 7 episodes and that's all the info I've gleaned about his character. He seems to be an okay guy, and I've seen dashes of a sense of humor. But there's nothing fleshing him out. Nothing I can say, "That's a Luke line" or "Yes that is/no that isn't how Luke would handle a situation". He exists in many ways as a plot device. And that makes me think poorly of Jessica. How can she picture a future with him when I have no grasp of his personality? The fact he's attractive and well-matched with powers and trauma can't be all of it. Let's compare him to Malcolm. Malcolm has been getting clean offscreen. He talks about his parents, how they brought him up, and his thoughts about going back into social work. He meets with the support group. He feels guilty about Ruben and helps his sister Robyn put up missing posters. He's got a whole plot and life outside of Jessica. Luke, he literally had to fill in what he did between him finding out what happened to Reva and him meeting up with Jessica in episode 12. Because he truly seems to have nothing going on outside of Jessica. Like, okay say his whole life was his wife. (Who I still have questions how she was able to get her hands on that flash drive? - How was she able to even find out about it and get it? Part of her job? Didn't she also work at the bar if it was their "dream"?) Anyway, when she dies, what the heck is he doing all day? A job and casual sex only takes up so much time. He's not avenging her or using his superpowers. So what else is he doing? He has to have something else going on. Friends. A hobby he picked up. Literally anything. In all fairness, it's not like Simpson for Trish is well-fleshed out either. But at least I have an idea how he might think or feel about a situation. I mean, credit to the show for flipping the script to write the women as heroes and to their characterization , while leaving the men as thinly written to mostly be used for furthering the plot and sex. Can't say I've seen that often. But if it's sacrificing the writing of some characters in the face of others, then that seems sloppy. Or that they're saving all his characterization for his own show, which seems a mistake. You should be teasing what is great about this character so people want more of a glimpse. Unless they were worried about contradicting or revealing something too early, in which case that's just bad communication between shows. If this weren't an 8 year old show, I'd be praying the writers learned improved upon his writing in future projects. I'm already optimistic from The Defenders trailer that Luke seems better written already. But frankly, at this point, there's nowhere to go but up.

Jessica and shipping
From the depths of the internet, there arises a legion of rabid fans engaging in several spectrums of fan behaviours; one of which is "shipping"— a practice that involves the paring or romanticising fictional characters irrespective of their characteristic dispositions. These conjectures are often born out of the audience's imagination and sometimes lack sensitivity to the original portrayal. In the case of Jessica from the internet series, Marble Hornets, she has frequently been the centre of several "ships" involving male characters. This essay will assert an argument urging fans to reconsider these implications given the perception that Jessica is indeed a lesbian.
In the consumption of media, the audience is given room to freely interpret characters. However, these interpretations should be tempered with due regard for the character's established identity and hinted inclinations in the original script. Jessica's character in Marble Hornets serves as the perfect case study, pointing out that she should not be shipped with men as this contradicts her projected sexual orientation.
The narrative of Marble Hornets offers its fair share of confusion and ambiguity, which can create nuances subject to different interpretations. This ambiguity can be attributed to the obscurity that conceals Jessica's sexual orientation. With nuanced hints and minute revelations, Jessica's character is perceived as a lesbian by a considerable segment of the show's audience.
Let’s consider the portrayal of Jessica, and why connecting her with male characters contradicts the subtleties of her character’s narrative. Jessica actively avoids romantic or sexual undertones in her interactions with male characters in the series. Her consistent platonic stance with men suggests a possible disinterest in engaging romantically with the male gender. This could be read as a subtle testament to her being a lesbian.
Moreover, Jessica's narrative arc is presented in a manner that does not revolve around a heterosexual romantic subplot or even hint at any relations with male characters. This absence of heterosexual dynamics in her story paints her character as independent from the show's male characters, further inferring that Jessica's preference lies within her own sex.
These elements invite the audience to reconsider the male-female associations they have established for Jessica through shipping. It also urges a refined sensitivity towards the subtleties of character minutiae, especially when it causes an upheaval in the character's potential sexual identities, such as Jessica being a lesbian.
The counter-argument claims that Jessica's avoidance of romantic relationships with men might be rooted in fear, not sexual orientation. They argue that the hostile environment depicted in Marble Hornets might be negatively impacting her interaction with men. While this argument seems plausible, the theory detracts from Jessica's character depth by boxing her into a clichéd female character who is merely a victim of her circumstances.
On the contrary, Jessica’s consistent platonic stance, and the absence of any heterosexual romantic subplot, serves as a reclamation of her agency and her character's autonomy from male influence. This balance not only enhances her character complexity but also amplifies Jessica's potential to identify as a gay character, thus portraying her lesbian identity.
Rehashing characters into conventional heterosexual pairs to satisfy shipping fantasies can be detrimental to the character's originality and integrity, nullifying the diversity that a character might uphold. This can also subvert the implied or explicit non-heteronormative representation that the narrative provides, which is the case with Jessica.
In conclusion, it appears justified to consider Jessica from Marble Hornets as a lesbian character, given the subtle cues concerning her sexual orientation. The argument against shipping her with men emerges from a deep respect for the character's authenticity. Viewing her character through the lens of a lesbian orientation not only breathes a fresh and unique dimension into Jessica's narrative but also aids in fostering inclusivity and representation in the show. Fans, hence, need to be mindful of their shipping tendencies, ensuring that these do not disrupt the character's inherent nature or the narrative's diversity.

Jess x Leto ~ a kiss to a scar, birthmark, injury, or other marking
Actually-not-dead continuity, PG-ish, also on ao3.
They knew each other like breathing, once.
At least that part of what they became was supposed to happen, at least in a one-sided form. Jessica learned to adapt to situations by learning the lines of her partner’s body, what preferences to cultivate and what pain to avoid. That the understanding became mutual was perhaps a bit off-script, but it certainly didn’t make him attentive, just the inevitable result of nearly twenty years of actively wanting each other and-
Life has not been kind these past few months, and they begin again.
She is healing from her state of compromise, and her body will never quite be the same. All the pain she ignored to ease her daughter’s first conscious moments has still flowed through her body in the weeks after, and she had forgotten how tired she can get, as if months on the edge of a knife have finally caught up with her in the worst way, and-
She removes some of her layers for sleep, and she feels her beloved watching her.
He too has changed, she reminds herself. Whatever happened during their separation… she’d expected worse damage, she knows how he can be unsupervised, and the few minor scars she’s found feel like pleasant surprises, and-
Whatever happened last week wasn’t minor. Jessica tries as she can to detach herself from the beginnings of war, but it is hard to maintain detachment when her partner comes back to her with an improvised bandage over a wound that will definitely scar. Lucky it was just his upper arm, someone had said, but deep enough-
“Do you need me to-“
“I can do it myself, if-“
“Changing a bandage is hardly a difficult task.”
He has been so cautious with her since he was brought back to her, she thinks, even more than usual. She wonders if she will ever again feel the warmth of him around and above her – she’s in no state for that now, but she will be in another few weeks, and that will not be enough time to-
She watches him remove his shirt, as she has thousands of times. Still pleasing to her eyes, still hers, still solid and-
It would, given such opportunity, be shameful not to take it.
She moves around him and runs her hands over his skin. He’d once said she acted like an animal circling its prey whenever she tried to initiate intimacies, and there had been delight in that, and-
“Whatever you’re thinking, my storm-“
“There is no obligation for you to calm. I just… want.”
She did have a legitimate excuse for this activity, and she pauses to get that over with, to undo the current bandage and take a decent look at the wound. It does seem to be healing in a cleaner line than anyone had expected, and she will take whatever small mercies she can, and-
On impulse, she feathers kisses across the line. This is proof of what kind of man her beloved is, she thinks. He does not believe in all that is around them, but he does believe in their family, and-
She pulls back, biting her lip to keep her eyes from getting wet, and her fingers shake as she wraps the new bandage, and-
“It could have been worse.”
“That is no comfort to me.”
Her body falls against his, and she feels fragile as his arms wrap around her – still, after all this time, so easily compromised. She worries for her family, and she worries most for him because he has already been taken from her once, and-
“You don’t want me to-“
“You said you wouldn’t, and-“
“We can’t try to stop a problem we don’t know.”
“We’re past any point of-“
“You can’t talk like that. Not about-“
“How easily you forget how much you missed.”
She shouldn’t fault him for things beyond her control, she knows this, but the bitterness lingers, the months of grief that ended up being for nothing, desperate choices she would have made differently with full information and-
He turns his head and kisses her eyelids, and she melts anyways, and they will get back to the familiarity they once had, they will get back to everything if it is the last thing they do and-
She worries it will be. She wants it anyways.

Jess didn’t know what possessed her to have the idea in this very moment. It could’ve been sparked from the shower she had taken about an hour ago or maybe it was the second glass of wine that tipped her in this direction. She’d recently became aware of this dangerous thought looming in her. The first time it popped in her head, she hushed it away, blaming the stress of life for her to think negatively. It only grew with time. Until today. When she finally felt bold drunk enough to say it. ❝ I think bringing down the manor was a mistake... ❞ Letting the words hang in the air. A sigh escaped her lips almost as if she had been holding her breath for entirely too long, really the thought festered in her brain like maggots in a wound. Endless growth that began to rot her like a corpse. ❝ We shouldn’t have fucking done it. ❞ Jess brought the glass to her lips for another sip of the bitter juice. ❝ Everyday it’s a new mess to fix or clean, people to keep in check and sorting out people’s lives since everyone’s aimless. They’re all fucking paralyzed without the structure. The order— ❞ Taking a pause to stop herself from going down that road. She didn’t even want to look at Sia’s face because she feared the look gazing at her as she vomitted her thoughts.❝The manor gave people purpose. We accomplished things— Sure, we all hated it, but it made us good. Great at what we do— I think ending it was a mistake. ❞

Jessica knew she was dalling apart more than most. She expected to be stronger than this, all her life, all the planning they had gone to ruin her sister. She knew that there was going to be a level of sacrifice, but she felt that she lost everything to et her freedom back. Maybe that is why she desperately wanted things to go back to normal. To go back to the manor. Where she had Cat, Derek and the rest of her family. Life may have been hell back then, but she had them and that's all that mattered. She missed them all so desperately that she tore herself to pieces. It didn't help that she didn't know how to cope with the sadness that filled the cofides of her chest. ❝ I didn't mean to push her away— I was doing what I thought was right. Remember, I didn't trust anyone, I didn't even trust you when everything went down. I know I crossed the line. I've apologized more times than I can count— She's never going to forgive me for what I said...❞ Not that she didn't deserve it. Jessica crossed lines and she knew if the roles were flipped that she'd act the same way. Hindsight was twenty-twenty. There is no way she could go back in time to undo the mess she made, but she missed her sister. Catalina was a part of her; everyday that passed without her left her feeling like she only had half of herself. ❝ No you're wrong... ❞ taking amoment before she spoke, ❝ Everyone is acting out. They're just always better at hiding it than I've ever been. They run away. They act out in secret. I'm falling hard from grace, but I know for sure we're all self-destructing. We were never made for this. We're not as strong as we all thought. ❞ All she knew how to do was destory thing. How was she supposed to function in a world like this? ❝ How? This is what I was made for? I break things. I don't know how to do anything else. ❞
SIA KNEW JESSICA WELL. WHO she really was and what she was capable of. As a couple, they had always been messy. Despite that, she loved Jessica for the way she was. However, she wouldn't tolerate her misdeeds and accept her vitriol. Lately, she hadn't been her best. She understood that it came from the stress of everything happening. She had been through a lot, after all. That didn't mean that she could do and say whatever she wanted. The world didn't revolve around her. Everyone was going through something. She wasn't the only one who had to adjust to a life without the manor. The redhead was spiraling, but that wasn't an excuse for her to act out. She wanted to be there for her, but her support didn't include terrible behavior. She had to call her out and express her disappointment. It wasn't because she loved her any less. She was doing so because she loved her. She cared for her. She couldn't let her be blinded by anger and go astray. It was a struggle to reason with her. Jessica clearly felt that the whole world was against her. "What I meant was you losing Catalina. You pushed her away and said many things you couldn't take back," she riposted. The blonde shook her head. "No, I see you as a person. I see that you're hurting. But you have to keep in mind that the sun doesn't set and rise with you. Everyone is hurting, but they're not acting out. And no, you're not your sister–—but you can't control how others see you. How they see you shouldn't really matter. If that bothers you, then you have to work on yourself to prove them wrong."

Dolo Flicks: Initial Reaction - Eli Roth's 'Thanksgiving' is a Homage to 80's Slashers and is Pure Fun

"Sorry, Jessica! This year, there will be... no leftovers!" -- John Carver
Director Eli Roth ventures back into the world of horror with a love letter to slashers with 'Thanksgiving.' It is a slasher film that harkens back to the subgenre's heyday when they were mass-produced almost on what felt like a weekly basis. The film follows in the footsteps of Robert Rodriguez's Machete and Jason Eisener's Hobo with a Shotgun as the third film that has been adapted from the trailers of the movie Grindhouse in 2007.
The Thanksgiving trailer was arguably the most popular featured in Grindhouse. Roth has been busy over the last decade producing, directing, and more actively acting. So it's surprising that it took so long for Thanksgiving to be made, considering it was only three years after Grindhouse that Machete was released.
"We wanted to get it right," Roth told the New York Times. "We couldn't crack the story. The fun thing about doing a fake trailer is that you get to do the best parts of the movie, and nothing has to make sense. For years, we were thinking, why would someone dress like a pilgrim and go on a killing spree? How do you go from one kill to another without it feeling like a 90-minute version of the trailer?
"Then it occurred to me," Roth continued. "What if we pretend that a Thanksgiving movie from 1980 was really made. And the day it was released, it was so shocking and offensive that every print was pulled from the theater and ordered destroyed. The only thing that survived was one copy of the trailer that's been lurking around the darkest corners of 4Chan. This is the 2023 reboot of what that movie might have been."
Eli Roth's 'Thanksgiving' succeeds as a homage to the slashers of the 1980’s
Thanksgiving follows a group of friends in Plymouth, Massachusetts, after a horrific event at the local superstore RightMart on the eve of Black Friday on Thanksgiving day. Numerous people were injured and killed attempting to get into the store. Now, one year later, those who were responsible are being hunted and killed one by one by a killer dressed as a pilgrim in a John Carver mask.
Following the template of 1978's Halloween, in 1980, Friday the 13th sparked a renaissance of horror films that could be based on seemingly almost any pseudo-holiday. Films like Silent Night, Deadly Night, New Year's Evil, and My Bloody Valentine were all centered around a holiday featuring a killer.
The slasher film has always been the most prominent and popular in the horror genre. The sub-genre has delivered some of horror's most iconic characters, such as Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, and Ghostface. Due to the often low expectations of slashers in opting to bring an overall fun experience that focuses more on kills than story, a filmmaker can practice their craft almost without restriction.
Roth has always been a director who pushes the envelope when it comes to bringing gore to audiences. He directed films such as Hostel and The Green Inferno, which were considered highly violent in their time. While not reaching the levels of pure splatter like last year's Terrifer 2, Thanksgiving's greatest strength is in its unique and fun kills that leave viewers closing grimacing and cheering right after.
Slashers tend to overly rely on the killer's characteristics to guide the manner of their kills. Thanksgiving doesn't fall into that trap, utilizing the unique locations to enhance some of the gore, including one victim being cooked alive. Often left out of discussions regarding what makes a great horror film is the atmosphere. The location of Thanksgiving pulls the audience further into believing it's the fall and holiday season.
One of the criticisms Roth has faced throughout his career is his writing. Thanksgiving was written by Roth along with Jeff Rendell. To the film's credit, they keep the script simple as a mixture between The Prowler and Friday the 13th as a tale of revenge. At times, the group of friends here are unlikeable but never reach the levels of unbearable that some of Roth's earlier work provided.
The cast is helmed by the lead final girl, Jessica (Nell Verlaque), whose father owns RightMart. The teenage group of friends feels generic but never overstays their welcome, going overboard and being obnoxious. The two veterans holding the film together are Patrick Dempsey as Sheriff Eric Newton and Rick Hoffman as Thomas Wright.
For fans of slashers, Thanksgiving is near perfection. It doesn't try to be anything more than a movie about a pilgrim-dressed killer out for revenge on a holiday. Those who grew up with an abundance of slashers in the 1980s will appreciate the work Roth and his team did with Thanksgiving. The film manages to implement its share of nostalgia for an often maligned era and does enough updating for modern audiences that can convert skeptics into new fans.

↳ Birthday: (We need it for the Birthday Calendar) october 10th
↳ Background: elodie was born and raised in red edge to two deadbeat parents who were more interested in nursing their bottles of liquor than nursing their children. from a young age, she had to learn how to adapt, having to grow up way more quickly than she should have. going to the movies was always her greatest escape and it was in the safe confines of a theater where she really fell in love with the idea of one day making movies. one day, she packed up her bags and took off in her beat up car and drove to LA to start her new life. for a few months, she could only afford to live out of her van until she decided to take up stripping in order to pay the bills. she didn’t mind the work, it paid well and since her work was primarily at night, she was able to write her scripts and hash out her ideas during the day. it was a perfect balance. it took a lot of rejection before she finally charmed an actress turned producer who believed in her work and her stories. the two of them teamed up to form a production company and have been making female empowering movies and shows since then. now they’re one of the most successful production companies in the industry.
↳ Para: (One to two paragraphs in character form of the character that you’re applying for. If you’re already in the group and this is your second, third or fourth character, then no para sample is needed.)
the few weeks right before she was set to go out and start production on a movie were always the most stressful. having to finesse the final touches on the script and get everything green lit before shooting while also simultaneously packing and making travel arrangements. these days she lived off of caffeine, specifically red bull and matcha tea. thankfully she had her favorite cafe in town where she could lose herself in her work while the staff also ensured that she was never left with an empty drink in hand.lips purse as bright orbs scan the script that was on her ipad, shaking her head as she read the screenwriter’s latest edit. “hey, hey!” half reading, half ushering a nearby person toward her, brows knitting into a furrow as she shook her head, “do these lines sound too ridiculous to you?” nose scrunches, leaning forward to better read as she read the latest lines out loud. for a moment, there was silence before she sighed, “it’s fucking corny, right?”
↳ Anything Else? (If there’s something about your character that we need to know please state it here. Did you read the rules?)
read the rules and nothing more to add!

A part of me kinda wants to get back all the way on board the Supernatural bullshit and do like a full autopsy on it. Like, the particular point I'd want to be looking at with it would be:
A) How the show turned from being Sam Winchester's hero's journey to Dean's, in that when the show started, Sam was basically the narrative Chosen One, but, in introducing the angels and saying that Dean was important enough for them to resurrect, he ALSO becomes the Chosen One, and narratively speaking, you can only really have ONE Chosen One, so as Dean's plot relevance became more central, Sam's faded.
Like come to think of it, way back in season five, when like one of the last episodes before the finale, they had one of Sam's old Stanford friends show up, possessed by a demon, saying he'd been the one to kill Jessica, and... I feel like my response even then was how out of place that story felt at that point in the narrative. Looking at it now, it almost comes across like a desperate plea for Sam's storyline and motivation to have major plot relevance again, given so much time over the rest of the season was spent on Dean and the choice to say yes to Michael.
And that would lead to B) Why were so many people involved in the upper levels of the show so DISDAINFUL of the idea of Dean taking the lead in the plot. Like, sure, there's the part where they didn't want to infect the show with the gay and make Dean and Cas a canonical thing, just queerbait the shit out of them, but... That really can't be it, because it goes down to the very attitudes towards the character, a sense of "how DARE he take the spotlight from Sam!"
Like the finale could have been done in a variety of different ways, even on the basis of achieving the conclusion they did, Dean dead on a hunt, Sam retiring, no mention of Cas beyond the cursory... It was doable. And instead it was this almost targeted insult at the character and his fans - not even the Destiel shippers, Dean's death was actively resistant to all the changes he'd undergone since the show started.
Sure, you could also blame the whole "we're advertising Jared and Walker" aspect, but I still stand by that being achievable with something that at least felt more respectful of the character growth.
Again, they could have gotten where they did even without addressing Cas. Instead, it was a choice by SOMEONE to give the series at Season 15 the ending of the series no further than Season 2. Like that finale really could have been pulled together as a script from the early days, written on the basis of "we got cancelled, quick, here's something thrown together to act as a conclusion!" and then dug out of Eric Kripke's desk instead of the actual conclusion written by the current staff.
It seems like certain executive heads did not care for Dean and didn't want to accept that he'd become the show's lead, in a way that goes beyond not wanting to give in and acknowledge that the gay angel was important to the series' survival, and specifically his relationship with Dean - while I'm a believer that there was an element of "we wanted a story of two brothers hunting things, we don't care about the extended cast," the way Dean was killed in specific just feels like this went beyond all that, because it had to be a choice to ignore fifteen years of character development, even if you want to no homo the shit out that character.
It'd be an interesting dive and examination to do. But I ain't even about to try and add that to my list of things I'd like to put my time and effort in to. I've got enough spinning on my plates as is.
