   it’s a quiet day in the studio. with no classes running & minimal foot traffic, tu’er shen finds himself at his pottery wheel, working on a custom order for a kitchen set. it was for a long time customer, one who’s preferences he had down to a t but who always lets him make whatever his heart desires — perhaps that’s why he likes her so much. so he molds the clay with careful hands as a bowl begins to take shape. his expression is one of concentration but he’s humming quietly along with the song playing on the radio. that is until the melody is interrupted by the soft chime of the shop door as it opens & closes.

     ❝ welcome. ❞ it comes out in a cheery tone, floating towards the front of the shop from his cozy corner tucked away. he abandons his half-formed creation, grabbing a wet cloth from the table next to him as he walks away to wipe away some of the clay before it cakes into his skin. he’s wearing rather plain clothes, an apron wrapped around his waist spattered with clay & glaze in various places, but his nails, although dirty, are well manicured, & his hair is styled in a way that makes him look more put together than his attire would imply.

   he can tell the stranger wasn’t there for anything material, but it would seem out of place to ask anything but a simple, ❝ can i help you find anything? ❞ so he does. & with a small smile on his face, expression friendly but a knowing look in his eye. ❝ our vases are quite popular. ❞

     Violet eyes parted from the cup of tea in front of her to see what her companion was indicating, her gaze landing on the robe he was holding up. It was one of the more formal items of clothing she’d been embroidering the past two days, since the soft lilac-colored robe itself was rather plain before. The material was of a fine quality and the color was exquisite, but without any sort of design, it seemed... ‘flat’. Now, it had a very lovely moon in silver silk thread on the upper back, Jade’s likeness a few inches below, silver and purple lotus designs along the collar, and majestic cranes in flight on her sleeves.

After a brief moment admiring her work with pride, she turned her focus to him, “I don’t see why not~” Her eyes seemed to twinkle as she considered all sorts of designs and concepts, “What’s your favorite color, and what motifs would you like me to include?”

   tu’er shen had wandered off to the side, admiring the charming fabric with added interest as he drew closer, fingers gliding across the smooth fabric & the risen texture of the embroidery. it was really quite captivating & he couldn’t help the request, its weight too heavy to stay on his tongue. but at her response the corner of his mouth curves up into a small but clearly excited smile, eyes brightening at the prospect of getting such a rich robe of his own.

        ❝ i think i’ve been favouring a lot of red these days... ❞ his voice tapers off, mind buzzing with all the options he could possibly ask for. the world at his request was a lot to consider, leaving him silent for a few moments before he settles on an idea. ❝ a man playing a guzheng would be nice, maybe with zhenli nearby & some silver detailing? but really i’d be happy with anything. with your eye i’m sure it’ll be nothing short of beautiful. ❞

    ❝ i know you said i didn’t have to, but i wanted to give gun gun something for his birthday. it’s not a toy so i’m not sure how much he’ll like it but i made him his own dish set! so it’s got a place, a bowl, & a cup. i couldn’t remember his favourite colour & didn’t want to ask because i wanted it to be a surprise for you both but i hope blue is okay. they’ve all got matching dragon designs on them too. do you think he’ll like them? ❞

   he can’t help the huff of a laugh he lets out, nor the small upturn of the corners of his mouth. ❝ am i really that peculiar? ❞ it’s a delicate balance between the uniqueness of his... well, everything, & doing what he can to camouflage among the people of today. but regardless of how well he might appear to fit in, he’s still an deity at the end of the day & meeting someone like himself isn’t exactly something that happens every day. or at the very least, not something he lets just anyone know about. ❝ surely you’ve met immortals before though, & i can’t imagine i’m too different from them. ❞ it’s unlikely for there to be similarities beyond the lack of mortality, but if it aids in tida’s adjustment then he’s all for it.
