Summary: Klara decides to stop by a frozen yogurt place because she likes their coffee and meets her friend there.

Klara liked this place. Something about the light pink walls and light brown tables has always made her feel cozy, even if she only ever stopped there for a moment or two. She hadn't even tried their main products, actually, only ever stopped by to get a cup of coffee. The only place in this part of the city that actually had coffee flavor of which reminded her of hazelnuts and chocolate.

She stopped and hanged her coat in the closet next to the entrance, inhaling the scent of coffee floating in the air. The cafe was surprisingly full, compared to how little people she usually sees here. Which was fine by her, to be honest, she never liked crowded places.

Her coworker had recommended this place few months ago, after bringing coffee from here to a work meeting. Since then, she usually went here every time before a busy evening, be it work stuff or grad school classes or any other kind of appountments.

She walked to the counter and looked at the place's frozen yogurts, table full of colors and scents, air colder around it than in the rest of the cafe. She thought about it for a moment, but then quickly glanced outside. The weather was cold, would it make sense to eat something like that?

"Oh hey, Klara, how fun to see you here!" She heard Tobias's voice from behind, and turned to see it standing next to her. It was wearing an oversized t-shirt, its color reminding her of the little blueish 'grey' hairs it had growing on its frontal hairline. The shirt had a print square full of cartoonish cat doodles and a text 'The Atlantic Ocean Cat Show 2268' on the side of the print. It was wearing black leggings, with pink leg warmers that complimented its nail polish. Klara could feel the scent of vanilla coffee body cream she had seen in its bathroom.

"Hi! Uh, hey. Would've never seen you as a frozen yogurt person."

It chuckled. "My friends work here. One of them is working on a group project with me and we came to work on it before xir shift. We've been basically sitting here and staring at our screens since the morning."

The dark haired woman sorting the cups glanced at them and said, "Don't let it fool you, it has already eaten, like, four cups."

"Three, actually. I think."

"You paid for them in front of me, Ray."

"Oh, you know how I failed that one math class, Darya, don't be surprised about all this," it smirked at her as she came closer and turned to Klara, "We studied at MIT together. She's an economics grad."

"Uh-huh, thought I could go to some big corps and get lots of cash. Then something happened and I was like, 'yeah fuck this' and went to a normal job that has lower chance of getting shot. Just like Ray here," she chuckled and gently patted its shoulder, "And by normal job I meant opening this place. Kinda fun, ain't it? Name's Darya, by the way."

"Klara. We, uh, we're in the same bookclub with Tobias. Um, Ri-"

Darya squinted her eyes slightly, before saying, "Aha, another bookworm. Cute."

Klara smirked. "Well, I just got back into reading and all...."

"Oh, sweetie, don't be like that, that's a fun hobby. Besides, it's a fun way to make...friends," she glanced at Tobias who was silently standing still between them. "Okay, anyway, you two keep talking or whatever, I'll let Ibis and the other guy know you'll be stuck here for a moment or something."

Klara watched her walk to the table in the far corner. "She doesn't know why you're back, does she?"

Tobias looked in the same direction. "Pff, no one does. Except for you."

"Wow, I feel special."

"You should," it said, and turned to face her, "I mean, um. In a good way. You know, you're, uh, awesome, and all."

"Hah, I get what you mean. So are you," she smiled as she quickly tried to think of other topic. "What's this project you're working on?"

"Oh, uh, we're still polishing it up but it's going to be something about the differences of how Earth Board talks about some specific topic and how it compares to contemporary discourses. Or something like that."

"Doesn't sound like chemistry... at all."

"Oh, that's for a sociology course."

"Huh. Of course you're studying that."

Tobias smiled widely. "My, um, friend had this large text book about its key concepts. He used it as a makeshift shelf on his desk sometimes. I liked reading it during evenings before going to sleep. And so I decided to check it out more closely now."

Klara wondered if it's the same book she saw among the pile of bookmarked chemistry books near its bed. Though, how would it get it if it belonged to its friend. Did that friend give the book to it as a gift or something? The whole thing sounded weird. How did it read it before going to sleep, too. "Well, to be fair, it does sound like something you'd enjoy," she smiled. She had two compulsory sociology courses in her previous degree, and while it did seem interesting, the workload did not.

"Heh, thank you!"

"Not afraid a little research like that could affect chances of working for the Board or something? I think you'd have fun there."

"Hah, no, um, I'll rather pick a boring office job." It stood still for a moment, before adding, "And I can't really work there beacuse I don't have an Earth nationality. Really limits one's choices, eh?"

"Haha, um, yeah." She couldn't believe she forgot about that. "Their loss, really."

"Well, um, don't know about that..." It frowned slightly and Klara started to think of something nice to say to fight its self-doubt, but it had already switched the topic. "By the way, what are you doing here?"

"Oh, me? I'm just here for a cup of coffee," she said, and added quickly after glancing at its confused face, "I don't really know which flavors are good," she gestured at the yogurts, "and I'm a bit too busy - and, well, they're a bit too expensive - to check them all out..."

"Huh! Well, to be honest, you seem like someone who'd really enjoy the berry one. And the cinnamon roll one, it's sweet like y- um, well, you know, sweet like the actual kanelbullar, not the stuff Americans make with all that, uh, frosting."

"Yeah, alright," she chuckled and stood for a moment staring at the boxes of yogurts, before grabbing a small cup and placing one ball of each flavor it had mentioned. "I sure hope you're right."

"I am, trust me, they're really good." It stood there for a moment, smiling widely, as she poured the dark roast coffee in a take away cup, leaving a third for milk, and quickly emptied a small honey pack into the cup. As she reached for oat milk, Tobias asked quickly, "Completely unrelated. Where did you get that shirt?"

"Hmm... A thrift shop near my brother's, uh, farm. That's on the West Coast. Why?"

"Ah. Um, nothing, just marveling at it. The color looks amazing on you," it said and smirked, though Klara couldn't tell if it was doing it awkwardly or if that's just how it smirks sometimes. It did it quite often anyway, which she thought was kinda cute. Something she liked to see. She felt that weird mix of feelings looming somewhere in her brain.

And realized that she was still staring at it. "Uh, sorry, got lost in my thoughts for a moment. I have a long evening today." It was true, but not what actually made her lost in thoughts.

"Hey, don't worry, I do that all the time," it said and glanced at the clock on the wall. "Um. Hey, I should probably get back to my group work, huh? And finally let you do whatever you came here for instead of talking to me."

It's not like she wouldn't mind talking to it a bit longer. "Hm, don't worry about me, I'm in no hurry or anything," she looked at the table Darya had visited and noticed the two people looking at them, "Your friends... they do seem like they're waiting for you, though., so I guess it's more of me stealing your time."

"You're not stealing my time, every second has been quite fun," Tobias said, "But you're right about them, though. I, um, I guess I'll go there. Let me know what you think of those yogurts."

"Oh, I will, don't you worry about that."

"Great! Thanks," it stepped away, "And, uh, I'll see you around, then. At least on the next book club meeting."

"Of course. See you then," Klara said and smiled.

It walked a few steps toward the table, then stopped by the counter, slightly waving to get the woman's attention to itself. As Darya came closer, it said something to her in another language Klara couldn't recognize. The woman smirked and replied something, and it chuckled slightly in reply, added something and left to the table.

Klara stood for a moment, then took out her little journal to write a note to ask it about the language next time she saw it. She placed it back into her pocket. She looked for the right sized lid for the take away mug and closed it before finally making it to the counter.

Darya was already leaning forwards, smiling. "Talking with Toby always gets interesting turns, eh?"

"Hm. It's fun," she replied.

"Uh-huh," she smiled even wider.

"Why use 'Ray' if you know its preferred name, by the way?"

"Well, I didn't know you, and how much you know about it. Surprisingly much. Interesting. Good for it, I guess. You seem fun, tjej," she paused and smirked, "Sorry, had to. Saw it mention a Swedish word in a conversation and wanted to try it out. My partner's from there and is slowly teaching it to me."

"Huh, that's fun. Which part are they from?"

"Umeå. Said it's cold as fuck there. Are you also from there somewhere, sweetie?"

"No, San Francisco Bay, actually. One of my moms is from Skåne, though."

"Ooh, I've seen photos, it looks nice."

"Huh, yeah, I guess. Um. Speaking of languages, what were you speaking with Tobias a moment ago?"

"Oh! Persian. Its accent is awful though - I mean, it did pick it up again only a few months ago after not using or learning it for years. Something about its father, I guess. I'm native speaker so it likes to speak it with me. It's fun."

"Huh, interesting," she thought that she could still ask it about it anyway, maybe hear some more things.

"Yep. Your coffee's getting cold, sweetie."

"Oh, shit. Uh. I haven't even paid yet, hang on-"

"Oh, no, your order's paid already. Enjoy your treats, sweetie, hope we'll see you here again," she smiled and turned back to the coffee machine.

Klara stood still for a moment. She didn't remember paying for it or even getting a notification about payment request. Did Darya just decide to give it for free or something. No, probably not. A mistake, maybe? Not like she would mind that.

She looked at the table in the far corner, where the three were talking loudly about content analysis and the topic they wanted to pick. Tobias leaning on its arm, nodding along as another person was explaining something, it's brown eyes moving as its gaze wandered around the room. Klara kind of understood it, eye contact was the most annoying part of conversations.

Their eyes met for a moment, a short one, though maybe a longer than all the other parts of the room it had looked at. Could've been that she was just imagining, though, at least she told herself that it could have been that. The warmth of its gaze made her want to smile for some reason.

A thought came to her head, did it pay for her order while talking to its friend? Surely it wouldn't, why would it?

Klara sighed and picked up her coffee and a-bit-less-frozen yogurt, put on her coat, and walked out of the cafe.

Elden Ring Theories: A Retrospective

So, enough time has passed for me to form my opinion on Shadow of the Erdtree and revive this blog. But before posting new theories based on the DLC lore, I decided to take a look at my old speculations and see how well they aged.

Does the Greater Will even exist? ✅ In this post, I compared the Greater Will to the Big Bang and suggested that it might not be an actual deity, but rather an attempt by the people of The Lands Between to explain the world around them: the creation of the universe, the fall of meteors, evolution, and the natural order. The Shadow of the Erdtree continues to present the Greater Will as a scientific concept described by the inhabitants of a fantasy world, allowing players to decide whether it’s a god beyond the microcosm or just an empty circle in Count Ymir’s hat, a mere projection of human imagination

The outer gods are natural forces. ✅ 🟡❔While the Greater Will's cosmic origin was emphasized even further in the DLC, the motives of the outer gods were tied even more strongly to earthly concepts. I have many thoughts about the outer gods and godhood in particular, but one of my ongoing ideas is that they manifest human emotions, given how perception and sacrifices shape reality in a material way in the Lands Between.

Elden Ring and Color theory: ✅🟡❔ While I disagree with some points I made in this post, many of my observations were quite accurate. One clarification I’d like to make is that the scroll sigils indicate the heritage of magic rather than its source of power. I also appreciate the DLC narrative that suggests all the differences are actually man-made.

Translation of Marika's echoes from JP, ✅ The DLC gives Marika such human and deeply personal motivations that reducing her to a mere puppet of an evil outer god feels like an insult to the collaborative work of GRRM and Miyazaki. I must admit that my initial reading of her character was too harsh; I even questioned why FromSoft would write such a one-dimensional character. However, I’m very glad that The Shadow of the Erdtree gave Marika awesome depth without depriving her of agency.

My musings upon Helphen's Steeple design and DLC predictions ✅ 🟡 Well, the Shadowlands are described as a place where all kinds of death come only to be suppressed, and the Shadowkeep, as pointed out by the community, very much resembles the design of the Helphen. You can even find Tibia Mariners' boats here. It’s not the exact version of the spirit realm I predicted, but it’s very close.

Small bonus: Even though I insisted that the DLC should be centered around the spirit realm, I pointed out that exploring Godwyn's story beyond what was shown in the base game is pretty unnecessary.

What's wrong with Ranni's Two Fingers? ✅🟡❌ Right direction of thinking, wrong conclusions. One of the biggest reveals of the DLC is that everything is wrong with the Fingers and their mother, Metyr.

Children of the Erdtree 🟡❔I'm not sure what to make of it. The DLC continues to toy with the Empyrean connection to plants, from the special properties of Marika's people's flesh to St. Trina being a literal flower, but it never makes any direct conclusions.

Bells and Bell bearings ❔ The connection does exist, but it should be explored in greater detail.

Candletrees, Miquella, Death and Sleep 💡❔✨ Now that the DLC has revealed Miquella's plan to replace Marika all along, it’s astonishing to realize that my earlier discovery about Necromancer Garris — who likely collaborated with the Black Knives — had Miquella's butterfly and candletree in his basement is actually quite wild

What is Crucible? 🟡❌❔Although the nature of the Crucible is still a mystery, I think my old theory that it was a different tree is not exactly right. I’ve even started to wonder if the Crucible and the Primeval Current are just different names for the same thing.

Some of my old takes haven't aged well, but if anything, I'm glad that Mohg isn't the "walking uooohh 😭💢 joke" I used to call him. However, my opinion on Miquella was surprisingly accurate. For two years, the fandom preached that Miquella wanted to abandon his godhood, making me seem like a major contrarian for insisting that godhood was still his ultimate goal (at least because it would be pointless from a writing perspective to create another Ranni).

I still believe that characters like Marika and Miquella are primarily vehicles to deliver Miyazaki's and GRRM's ideas regarding civilization development, human nature, religion, and philosophy. So, whatever faults they have are the faults of the concepts they represent. Nevertheless, *Shadow of the Erdtree* did an awesome job of elevating these characters from mere ideas to something more human and relatable.

My old description of Malenia is so relevant, it hurts.

Mohg, Radahn, Rykard and Snakes 🐍 Honestly, I'm not sure if Messmer was initially planned by FromSoft or created specifically for the DLC, but looking back, it's pretty funny that I noticed something weird going on between the demigod brothers and the serpents.

Elden Ring lore is a disaster 🤡 Elden Ring story is such lackluster that it was rewritten with the first day patch on top of the giant mountain of cut content. I’m not sure that DLC, if there will be any, can fix this mess or give any proper answers as it seems that writers got too much carried with the idea of making story as vague as possible.

Someone was overdosing on doomium.

To my surprise, the DLC managed to address most of my old frustrations. While I do wish certain things had better foreshadowing or were explored more, it still did a good job of filling many gaps in the base game lore that were making me frustrated. Looking back, I think some of my grudges over the lore were no less important than my theories because they served as a good indication that something was intentionally left unexplained. It seems that the gaps and ambiguities were not oversights but deliberate choices.

As I explore the new content in Shadow of the Erdtree and revisit my old theories, I will also share my thoughts on the new lore and its impact on the narrative. This fresh perspective has already sparked some intriguing insights, and I am eager to see how these revelations will reshape our understanding of the game’s world.

Post-New War. Lotus, Natah and Margulis struggle (a Lot) with their newfound plurality, paralleling the Operator and Drifter's journey on getting to understand each other and themselves.

Lotus was chosen to lead the system, but Natah and Marg are awful at teamwork and they hate each other very loudly, giving Lotus horrible headaches on top of her unaddressed PTSD.

Unfortunately on hiatus because balancing the tone of this fic is Rough; i have a lighthearted writing style but my headcanons for Lotus' trauma can get very heavy. I have lost the plot many times!!

This also started primarily as a DrifterLotus fic before i realized that what the Lotus Headmates have with each other is way more compelling, but this fic has a lotta hits and Kudos for many good reasons so don't worry, I'm not marking it abandoned yet...

Zai was born from me going through a Netrunner phase at about the same time I was still knee deep in Ruroken and translating characters through into cyberpunk settings as a thought exercise, and then cackling over my Netrunner cards as I plotted out fake corporation runs and oh no whoops now I gotta Write The Thing--

This is especially ironic as up until this point I was turning my nose up at all the AUs in fandom and all the ships in fandom going "Why does nobody build on what is present in canon FINE I will write CANON STUFF ONLY TO MAKE UP FOR IT" (two years later putting on clown makeup: hey what if cyberpunk samurai. Look I love AUs now, they had to grow on me first that's all! Everyone should be thankful I never wrote the RK/TMNT crossover or the RK/POTC crossover or-- anyway.)

Flamingo (they/them) is a...flamingo. But not just any flamingo! They're shockingly intelligent, and unfortunately still can't talk (yes this is a weird thing), so they usually write down whatever they want to say on a sheet of paper. They're out of paper. You wanna know another fact about them? They're not even from this game! They were actually part of a whimsical tic-tac-toe game, until they got dropped into a whimsical Oregon Trail-like game, and now they're leaving the Ludoplane entirely and heading into Exclamania for the first time. Cleck (he/they) works as a File Clerk for the Steel Corps. They are a being made of dreams, dreams that remind you of lilies on nice spring afternoons. The day is Thursday, and the breeze flows across your face. It has recently rained, and the smell is relaxing. A nice break from all the commotion of the office space.

This is why they are called a Dreamwalker. They are the culmination of all these ideas. These ideas and feelings are what make him unique. He is periwinkle-colored, like a piece of a bright, sunny day fell down to earth and coalesced into a human form, and wears a pair of blue bottle glasses. He usually wears a simple office uniform, complete with a tie. Their accent is noticeable, but you can't quite place your finger on it.

He does not know how he ended up in Exclamania. One moment, he was doing paperwork, and the next, he's in this strange space. He just wants to go back home.

His emojis consist of two differently-colored question marks, similar to an Exclam. Don't be fooled, though.

This is Martia Herrera Arroyo. Mexico-origin young marine ecologist trainee living in Rio de Janeiro.

She is quite ordinary compared to a crazy-fantasy-supernatural-universe-destroyer, but, hey, I love it this way as well.

I want to talk about her more but will put it under the cut + time-lapse process video.

So yesterday I worked spontaneously on one new character. The plan was a cell-shaded quick portrait for warm-up before focusing on complex commission work, but I zoned out completely.

Well, I HAVE NO BRAKES in art, ppl. I need to install them somewhere. Any ideas?

Martia is inspired by this picrew image I composed,

which, as you noticed, have blue eyebrows and no freckles.

Drawing the portrait took me around 4 hours total and mind ride on the thought-train-merry-go-round-style. Means, I was an inspiration-driven, lore-processing mess. ~(-◎y◎)

I'd be happy to share her lore after I'll write it down and filter. Till then, here is the time-lapse for the artwork

So while it's living in my brain rent free, I'll talk a bit about this high school drama au.

I wrote bits and pieces of an original story about high school drama club. It has some good vignettes, but no overall shape. So it hasn't really gotten anywhere.

When I was reading Romeo and Juliet with my students last spring I kept thinking about Sirius playing Mercutio and James joining the play to impress Lily. The plot bunny was born.

I had other things I was working on, and didn't really write much of it until now. So now I have a clearer idea of the plot and such so I'm hoping to develop it from here.

hmm alright i think im just gonna talk about the one i am closest to posting and add a snippet of it for the second thing ^_^

so this is the unpopular character prompt and i chose demure because he is awesome and i love him. ofc i had to add kyoya. honestly was very excited to try out the demure/kyoya ship for the first time, its been a lot of fun so far figuring out their dynamic and how they would work together as a duo especially considering how little they actually interact in the show.

it was hard for me to imagine kyoya being kind(?) enough to demure for their relationship to work without changing their original dynamic much. thats why i had to set this post-fury and establish how these characters changed and how they see each other differently now.

the fic itself is a little short, probably around 2k when im done, but because of what i mentioned above i spend way too much time establishing their dynamic and what they think of each other (or rather what demure thinks of kyoya) than on their actual date lol; not that demure knows that its a date

tbh i really enjoyed working on something fluffy and cute after the last fic i posted which was just an angst fest. i could really see myself writing these two more often.

📝Share a snippet of an unposted WIP, with or without context.

It's so different to see Kyoya again. Demure has always had a bit of some kind of hero worship for Kyoya, ever since that first meeting at the qualifiers for the world championships. Kyoya had been confident and steadfast and strong and Demure had learnt a lot from him. To believe in himself and trust in his own abilities, to fight for the victories that really matter. Demure has grown more of a backbone since then and he attributes that, too, to Kyoya. At least, in part.

And now everything is different from then. Looking back, Demure now realizes that Kyoya used to be a bit of an ass, that his confidence constantly teetered on arrogance, that he never trusted them as much as they trusted and depended on him. It feels good to be able to look back and pick apart all their interactions and Kyoya's little mannerisms in a way he couldn't before, because his understanding of Kyoya has increased quite significantly.

I'm going to choose Silk, because it is a WIP that I've been working on for quite some time and it's a fanfiction, so I'm not as tight lipped about it, as I am about my other projects. c:

Silk is an Arcane fanfiction. For everyone who's interested: The story follows Silcos, Benzos and Vanders life in the Underground, how they came to be the "leaders of the rebellion" and their eventual demise, but it has a little twist that goes more into the canon divergence territory (It doesn't change anything about the ending the characters have in the show, that will still be very much canon compliant. It just has something to do with Silcos background). The POV will switch, but is mostly focused on Silco, and while it has more of a origin story kind of feeling, there will be some Silco&Jinx father/daughter interactions sprinkled in. But mostly, it will be about the three "boys" in their younger years. You may also see Sevika in her teenage years. c:

^ Also regarding Silk. There's going to be a scene on a cliff. Two scenes, actually. They kind of mirror each other and and I'm just excited to go into the symbolism, and the parallels and the FEELS.

hahaha i feel like i say this every single time i reply to a meme like this but general forewarning that on my end i will be working exclusively with the muses of yours i'm actually familiar with, but this in no way means i'm not open to interactions with muses not listed on either end!! i am happy to write any and all muse combinations for the most part these are just a few that come to mind!!

okay! first and most obvious (in my opinion), i would absolutely LOVE to discuss some things between iorveth and isengrim at some point. aside from the fact that i just love writing isengrim in general, i've never fully gotten the opportunity to explore a potential dynamic between him and iorveth, and i think that's a shame. i've been itching to send something but because of my work and other hobbies i'm never on the dash at the right time to catch a meme being reblogged. in any case, when i DO luck out, you can count on that sort of thing being the first thing i send.

this one is a little more weird but i would LOVE to send tempest at legolas sometime (or even iorveth as well)!! he's an original elven character who has... semi work-in-progress verses for both witcher and tolkien. the general gist of his character is he's the sort of person who makes himself everyone's enemy so they can unite at his own expense---sort of a backline schemer type of character who's a lot more sympathetic than he lets on. i think the general dour and pessimistic tone of tempest's character would contrast well against legolas very much not being that way, and i also think it would be a good complementary interaction for iorveth.

the third and final muse of yours on this blog i know is venti, naturally, but i would like for them and parsifal to interact!! supposing you're not familiar with the artifact lore in genshin, parsifal was the wielder of the iron sting, alley flash, and alley hunter, and the phantom thief mentioned in wine and song, as well as the skipper's first mate from the heart of depth artifact set and serpent spine claymore. once upon a time he was part of a larger storyline related to old fabled "characters" from mondstadt and liyue's past suddenly being resurrected and given second chances, but he's pretty much alone in that now. i just think it would be interesting for the two of them to interact given parsi's famous history and odd resurrection. i don't know. he has a whole plot in modern mondstadt where he's learning about the extent of his brother eberhart's betrayal so maybe venti could have a part in that or something.

honorable mention to brynn and leslaw who are going to interact very soon anyway. also honorable mention to ciri and twain just bc ciri isn't on this blog and i feel kind of obligated to toss twain into these posts at least once but i do really mean this. i do.

I have a dead dove: do not eat project related to catholicism, small town secrets, blatant disregard, about a man who sold everything to be immortal. And even the one person he could stand to love. And when 300 years pass and he sees that love reincarnated and abused, this immortal - under the guise of a miraculous friendly priest - dooms the livelihood of every parishioner to keep his loved one out of harm. Even if it means killing people through a blessing to help that loved one become immortal. It's originally a fanfic au concept for a fandom I was once part of, but the plot and story itself could standalone as something original. I don't see much religious horror thriller in what I browse, so this would be fun for me. I like how the concept plays with the idea of why we reach for the things we reach for, even when it isn't good for us or how it justifies the things we do. And I find religion and love have walked hand in hand with that since the beginning.

💗Is there a scene you can’t wait to write for a WIP?

The end. I'm a slow writer, getting to the end is the goal here! But in all seriousness, I have the rough draft of a scene that will be my emotionally hitting thing and I'm currently revising towards it so it could at least make you cry, perhaps the many times that I have. It's not sad, in particular. But it's closure in a way, knowing you're not a mistake and of no fault of your own someone you care about didn't see you for who you are. And even just typing that makes my eyes water because I feel that, so heavily recently, and I want this scene to sing as sweetly as I've been feeling.
