There they were. Alive, younger than she had ever seen them, so happy and blithe, and such a great team in battle - if it weren’t for certain features and their uniforms, Mar’i might even have doubted if it truly were the people who she knew. But there was enough similarity, and maybe a feeling deep down too, to tell her that they were the Titans she already knew, even if different. The young girl walked closer to the fight scene, ignoring the shouts of a few people that ran past her into the opposite direction and tried to warn her. No one was un-afraid enough to try to pull her along, which was good, since she could simply approach further like that.
Soon enough, she could watch from the front row, and ‘ooh’ed and ‘aah’ed to the attacks that happened so close to her. She could even hear their shouts to one another, too, and was startled when something dark appeared beside her and shielded her from a part of rubble. That definitely would have hurt. “You shouldn’t be here,” a voice followed the energy, and Raven landed beside her, to which Mar’i looked up with wide eyes. “Where are your parents?” “You’re Raven!” Mar’i exclaimed in response and hugged Raven (as far as she could reach, so more like hugged her legs), until a little bit of the black energy parted them again. “It is dangerous here. You need to leave.” A bit of rubble came towards them, and Raven blocked it elegantly. “Have you lost your parents?” “Not anymore!” To that, Raven looked around, expecting to see a couple - the little girl’s parents - nearby, but outside of the fighting team and their enemy, no one was here, and Raven turned to the girl again. “Where are they?” “There!” Mar’i pointed upwards to the fighting Titans, and Raven looked over for just a moment before focusing back on the situation at hand. “I don’t have time for this. You have to leave. Now.” Mar’i didn’t even react, she just kept looking up to the fight, and Raven sighed. Her magic connected with a few pieces of rubble and one destroyed car now, and built a sort-of shell around the girl. “Fine. If you won’t leave, stay in there, that should protect you.” With that, and after watching her for a moment longer as if to make sure she really stayed inside, Raven took to the air again to join her friends.
When the fight moved away, well. Mar’i did obey Raven’s order, but probably not in the way that the Titan would have liked. Instead, Mar’i followed the fight with the shell still around her, carrying it with herself through the air to stay close and watch. The team didn’t take note of her again though, not before the enemy soon was defeated, and they landed. She cheered loudly even as the fighting was done, and that was what brought the team’s attention back to the floating girl in the protection-shell. “Seems like you’re not the average kid,” Raven noted as Mar’i landed beside them and the dark energy opened the makeshift shell again. “I’m not! I’m Nightstar!” “Nightstar? I don’t think that name’s in our database.” “Are you a hero?” To Robin asking the latter, and him and Starfire joining the Titans standing around the girl, Mar’i rushed into the air and grabbed both of them into a hug. “Mommy! Daddy! I’m here! It worked!” Both Starfire and Robin blushed heavily now, turning away from one another once the hug was released (though still ‘sneakily’ glancing over to one another) and BB and Cyborg chuckled. “’Mommy?’ ‘Daddy?’ Did you guys forget to tell us something?” “Do your math, Cy, obviously this can’t be true,” Robin answered once he had caught himself a little. “It indeed cannot, we have not done the act of reproduction before!” Starfire added, making Robin more flustered again. “It is true! I’m not lying! You just aren’t there yet!” “What are you talking about, Nightstar? They’re right, you can’t possibly be their child, according to any laws of biology.” “Not yet, but I am!” “Let’s continue this at the Tower. You can do a scan of her, and we’ll know more.” “Will you accompany us, Nightstar?” “Yes mommy!”
They returned to the Tower and Mar’i agreed to being tested, to which Cyborg applied a few cables to her and ran a few things. “I don’t know how, but she’s telling the truth. Her genes prove that she’s your and Starfire’s child.” “Did someone try to clone us?” “Hard to tell, there’s no test for that.” “But how else? Look at her, we’d have to – the team doesn’t even exist for that long yet!” “I don’t know!” “Maybe you should stop discussing and ask her instead,” Raven interfered in Cyborg’s and Robin’s discussion, and both turned to look at Mar’i, who looked rather unhappy, slowly growing closer to tears even, at this arguing. “I- I’m sorry…,” she sniffed, understanding the discussion as a sign of her not being wanted here. “I… I just wanted to see you again! And, and uncle Vic said that I-” “Uncle Vic?” Cyborg repeated, surprised. “Ye-yes, that’s you! Cyborg, uncle Vic!” Cyborg and Robin exchanged looks for a moment. “So… if he’s Vic, what am I?” Beast Boy joined in. “Uncle Gar! And Beast Boy! But I, I haven’t seen you in a while!” “How do you know these things?”, Robin brought the focus back to the big question at hand, and Mar’i hesitated for a moment. “Who taught you?” “You did! And mommy! And all your friends, your family!” “You said that I said something. What did I say?” “Well, you - Uncle Vic - said, that I will be a hero! That mommy and daddy would be proud of me! But, but you are angry and don’t believe me and I’m sorry!” He had also said that she should avoid meeting the team or telling too much about the future, but that was the part of his advice that Mar'i preferred to pretend not to have heard. “We are not angry with you, Nightstar,” Starfire stepped forth, and started to remove the wires from Mar’i. “We are merely surprised, and very confused. Your claims are not making sense!” “But you told me of Warp! You did it too!” Now the team exchanged looks again. “Warp? You mean… you’re from the future?” “Mhm!” Mar’i nodded eagerly. “Oh! I should start with that! I forgot!” “If you’re from the future, that means that Robin and Star…” The two blushed again to Beast Boy’s words, and Cyborg nodded. “Of course B, did you expect anything else? We all know that already, don’t we?” “But why did you come to us, Nightstar?” Mar’i looked up to Raven, and thought about it for a moment. “Uh… I… all of you were gone, and uncle Vic said that I can be a hero, and safe.” “Why were we gone? What happened?” “I don’t know!” That was only half the truth - Mar’i didn’t know the details of what the trouble was that was going on, but she knew that they all were gone to never return. They were all gone forever. She didn’t want to talk about that, though, so she preferred to not know. “Okay. So we’re getting a time-travel visit from a child from the future, where apparently we’re all ‘gone’. Well, all except Cy. Doesn’t sound so different from a typical day, right?”
The team left Mar’i for a few moments, surely to discuss what to do. Soon enough, they returned again, and Starfire continued to remove the gadgets for the scans from Mar’i. Once “free”, Mar’i hugged Starfire, who in return smiled, bowed down and placed her hands around Mar’i too, to lift her up. “It is all… very confusing, and much to comprehend. But… we welcome you to our home, and to our time, Nightstar. … Nihkor?” Mar’i looked confused at her for a moment. “Oh!” Before then shaking her head. “No, Nightstar isn’t from my tamaranean name! I’m Mar’i - Mar'i'andr!”

One way to make basically any tamaranean baffled/amazed/touched:
Learn tamaranean. Best if you do it without them knowing (through someone else, through a database or however else you may be able to learn it), and surprise them with a sentence or something once you know a bit - or ask them to teach it to you, which will cause the same reaction but earlier, and maybe with not as much impact as to suddenly hear their language coming from you.
(Obviously, this only works for non-tamaranean people and ones that actually need to learn a language, ones that communicate only mental or through gestures or maybe have an automatic translation of every language or something can’t really do this - maybe in writing though.)
Other species tend to never bother to learn the tamaranean language - a tamaranean (unless handicapped) can easily learn the other’s language, so why should anyone bother to learn theirs. Many species even see it as a ‘lower’ language similar to how they think lowly of the tamaraneans (Troqs as they might then call them); and so it’s a language that almost only tamaraneans can and do actually speak. If you then take the time and effort and learn the language, and not because you need to, but for them; it will mean incredibly much to them - especially if you say something meaningful with it, too.

Okay, I think my edit for a look of older!Mari is done.
Obviously the clothes look painted on bc that's exactly what happened I can't draw clothes-folds and the likes, but yes, I think I'm pretty happy with this look for her later-on uniform.
Though I might still fill that... is it cleavage when it's below the gorget like this? , but like, that 'cleavage' or however else to call it, with armor beneath it bc I'm not sure how I feel about the safety hazard that not being covered there of all places can bring, but, maybe also not bc tamaraneans strong and sturdy. Anyway. Have the pic for now.
Will hopefully add this to the verse for her older things on my verse-page eventually too, but I'll have to figure out how to write that first.

Headcanon Time - Tamaraneans
Repost of one of my old Headcanon Time - posts!
This time the focus will be the tamaraneans, their abilities and thoughts I have about their body/abilities/system/all of it.
Again, the actual headcanon will be under a cut due to possibly being lengthy.
The default skin color for tamaraneans is of orange-ish color. There are variations, like more towards golden, darker, or more with a tint of yellow to give three examples, but all in all, orange is the default.
Their eye colors vary, even more so than humans do, basically all colors are possible though green is the most common. The eye color is also the color of their energy.
Tamaraneans are taller than humans, and males even more so than females. When born, and for many of the first years, their growth is similar to those of humans, though they normally already are somewhat taller than an average human of same age (about 5 or 6 inch more during the last teen-years).
Their first transformation (the one we’ve seen of Star in the show) is still during the phase that the growth is similar to humans with only little difference in height, and often is the thing that enables a tamaranean to use another part of their powers, like the eye-beams that Starfire was only able to use after it.
Somewhere around the 25~30-th year of their lives (sometimes a bit earlier or later, there is no set timing just like it isn’t for the first transformation), there is another process similar to transformation. It is different from the first time in its ‘symptoms’, there is no way to predict what it will be like until it happens. After that transformation, the females don’t notice much change, whereas a very small amount (5% or so at highest) of the tamaranean males get a sudden growth (and muscle) spurt during that transformaton.
They turn out of a body shape and size similar to Galfore, and it’s said that those that get these changes are ‘better’ tamaranean males than the others.
The hair color of tamaraneans can vary as well, red is by far the most common (around 85~90% are red, the rest is mixed with any color existing, black for example is at maximum found on 3% of the people.
They can, albeit rarely, also be born with hair colors that humans might see as unnatural, like green or white.
Bright colors are the most accepted and liked ones by the population, those with colorless (pale/pastel, or white) or too dark (black or dark-tinted) colors of hair are usually not appreciated as much, or even ignored, hated or seen as outsiders.
While their growth is mostly similar to human ones, the aging isn’t that much. At the beginning, yes, but when getting older, a tamaranean doesn’t get weaker or smaller or lose some of their strength as much as humans do. They tend to be strong, powerful and active for very long in their lives, and only when it gets around 85~90 or so they start to weaken, and then it happens rather drastically like a sudden loss of all starbolt-powers, or one day flight just doesn’t work anymore no matter how joyous they feel.
Usually, the first power a tamaranean child develops is flight. It often even happens without being planned, and sometimes it happens that tamaranean guards have to fly after a young tamaranean baby heading towards the atmosphere if they suddenly started flying when they were left unattended for a moment.
The assimilation of languages is a power that doesn’t need to be developed, it’s always there (unless the tamaranean is handicapped and just not capable of it), but until they get taught how to use what happens when doing the lip-contact, tamaraneans simply cannot process the information of langauge that they get during it.
Control over starbolts only comes after a few years, but the energy itself can already happen before, they technically have the energy in themselves ever since the beginning. Which makes it very dangerous for the female to actually try and have a child, it can happen that the child uses its energy already when still ‘inside’, risking a lot of harm or worse to both the mother and the not-yet-born-child.
There rarely are any families with more than one child, some few have two children but that’s usually it, they do not want to test their luck more than two times. Those who nonetheless have more are seen as very brave, especially the females.
Their strength is also always present whenever the tamaranean is in the right mood.
Descending from feline beings, Tamaraneans can purr. It only happens very rarely, and only if their mind truly has not a single thought of trouble, difficulty or sadness, and it happens without them actually thinking about it or wanting it to happen. It is very common to happen when the tamaranean is still a baby, but as they get older, it gets more and more rare.
Just like their powers, their body and strength are very reliant on their mood. When struck with sadness or similarly troubling emotions, they easily lose their powers (first is flight, then will be starbolts and later strength too), and if the emotions get too strong they can end up being so weak that they can barely move anymore.
There are things that might help, like family (or those close to them) caring for them and doing everything to brighten their mood again, but sometimes, it’s just too bad (or too present and always somehow comes up again immediately) for the tamaranean to recover from it again and they literally die of heartbreak because their system just stops working like it should.
I think that’s all I have to say about it for now. There might someday be a second part or something to this, but right now, that’s all about the tamaraneans.

[[Answered some of these for the muses of my multi back when it was a sideblog, here's a repost of a part]] A question from this meme answered for Mar'i because I wanted to!
32. What do they dress like? What sorta shops do they buy clothes from? Do they wear the fashion that they like? What do they wear to sleep? Do they wear makeup? What’s their hair like?
Fresh from her time travel, Mar'i still sticks to tamaranean outfits. At that point, and for a few more years, she’s much more into being proud to be tamaranean - and a warrior - than anything else, and that displays in her attire very obviously, too. Eventually, she will grow an interest in looking more earth-passing though; perhaps as second identity, or at least to not stand out quite as much among like schoolmates or something. At that point, she will enjoy to dress girly, best with a bit of a mix of colors. She will occasionally be wearing things in a certain blue-black combo before her “father” (from a different timeline) even considers a new style, and of course she likes to use purple as well. Glitter is a big part of her attire whenever she can, and she loves to go shopping and buy from any store she can find in the mall really, or on her way to it. She isn’t picky about shops, as long as she can get stuff she likes.
Her sleepwear tends to still be a tamaranean outfit - and it’s gonna stay that way for a bunch of years. Perhaps for as long until she has her first, like, sleepover with someone that actually mentions (or mocks) her tamaranean wear, or until she has someone over to her own place if nothing caused her to change it until then. Afterwards, it’ll usually be nightgowns of sorts.
She will love to play with makeup for some years, creating rather way-too-colorful styles usually. Once she’s using makeup without seeing it as playing, it’ll always be there, yes. No foundation or coverings or the likes though, just the stuff to give colors with (idk all the terms, especially not in english, sorry), really. And mascara every now and then.
Mari’s hair is, surprisingly, almost always a somewhat silky texture. It’s perfectly black, shiny, and even after she’s doing the craziest things, there are never any big tangles in her hair. She still nurtures it regularly of course, usually using shampoos with fruit scents of some forms. And she loves it when anyone of her huge hero-family offers to comb her hair, it just feels amazing and makes her feel at home and everything. She also has very much (as in, 'full') hair, more than the average human would have.

Some of these answered for Mar'i!
How loose is their use of the phrase ‘I love you’?
Mar'i is very quick to love things. It's always honest, too, though usually not really meant in the romantic way. If it's about the romantic love, it takes a little bit before she'd feel certain enough about her feelings. When she is certain though, she's not hesitating to say it.
Who do they love truly, 100% unconditionally (if anyone)?
That'd be her parents, even the versions of the time that she travelled back to (that, technically, might not even end up being her parents), and to be honest, pretty much any Titan that she got to know before time-travelling back. Galfore and Wildfire too. They are her family, all of them, and it would take a lot to lose that love so I'd say it is unconditionally.

Headcanon - Mari’s name
It’s not a big secret, and surely nothing new to anyone knowing her, that Mar'i was sorta named after Robin’s mother, so I don’t think I need to elaborate on that.
What I do feel the need to write though, is that “officially” (aka headcanonically for my version of her), her name is Mar'iand'r Grayson, and not simply Mar'i Grayson. On Earth, both in papers and when introducing herself or the likes, she always goes with Mar'i Grayson though (or the first name simplified to Marie when that would be really needed), and on Tamaran leaves off the last name, only being Mar'iand'r then. The actual translation of her tamaranean name would not be the hero name she picked for herself (Nightstar), but it would be Nightfire. She never uses that though, it’s always either Mar'i Grayson when on Earth, Mar'iand'r when on Tamaran (even there Mar'i would be a working shortening though ofc), or Nightstar.
Also, Mar'i is pronounced 'mah-ri' and not like you'd usually pronounce Mary.

Some things answered from the Ascendant Sign Headcanons! meme!
For Mar'i I'll answer - Taurus Rising Does your muse enjoy or despise change? Are they stubborn? Have they ever taken too long to decide and let an opportunity slip away because of it?
Ever since her whole time travelling, or perhaps ever since her parents never returning before that, Mar'i very much doesn't like change. She prefers things to stay as they are, and she really doesn't like the idea of someone leaving or the likes.
It is quite normal for a tamaranean to be stubborn, and while she also has a human part, that doesn't really stop any of the typical stubbornness to appear in her too. Yes, Mar'i is stubborn, and definitely has had some arguments over things due to being too stubborn.
Mar'i usually decides things rather spontaneously, so while there might have slipped opportunities because of her deciding differently, it would not happen because of her taking too long to think about it.
