[WATER BALLOONS] - you know, perhaps tossing balloons filled with water to a guy who can literally part a sea ( you know, the thing consisting solely of WATER ) was not the smartest idea.... but caelus never has been known to be the most intelligent man when it comes to making decisions, now is he?

Being who he is, Dan Heng is perfectly accustomed to getting soaked. Though he channels the power of wind in his human disguise and with the Cloud-Piercer in hand, at the end of the day, it is water that he has the best and strongest affinity with.

It brings him comfort, and helps him relax and gather his thoughts. It's where his tale began, it will be where it shall one day end. It's his birthright, his element, and in certain ways, his home.

... Anyway, all that is to say that when a water balloon hits him from behind and soaks his back, he is, without a doubt, less bothered by the sensation than many others would be.

Ah. Caelus is behind him, isn't he. Of course he is. He’s behind him making that face again. Dan Heng doesn't even have to turn around to know it.

"Really?..."

Well, just because Dan Heng doesn't mind getting soaked doesn't mean he's going to simply ignore it. And so, after the Trailblazer hits him, he is met with what someone at the Herta Space Station once described as Dan Heng's "bombastic side eye," whatever that means, and the next water balloon fails to find its mark, instead ending up caught harmless in the data bank archivist's hand.

He weighs it for a moment, somewhat nonchalantly,

Learned recently that the Xianzhou Luofu apparently uses a different script than Belobog and that's so cool, I love little worldbuilding things like that. ♡

And then I nearly keeled over imagining Gepard going for a daytrip with Caelus and Asta to the Luofu; Caelus is taking Asta so she can run errands (and go shopping, of course) and Gepard is tagging along because Bronya found out he'd been falsifying records about his paid time off-

(Bronya: You have two years of overdue pto?! Out!

Gepard: But-

Bronya: Go on vacation or something! Out!!)

-and. It's all a little overwhelming for poor Geppie.

Everything is so weird and different there. A part of him is curious and enjoys it, but he just doesn't really have that same pioneering spirit as his sisters and it's not as fun for him as it would be for them. He wishes they hadn't been busy and could've come along, he'd feel a lot better with Serval and Lynx. He can't even read most of the script, he's mostly reliant on Caelus and Asta or the translation function they put on his phone for him. He kind of just wants to go home. He misses his city.

And then he catches sight of a head of blue hair in the corner of his eye, snickering and messing with the script on one of the signs.

Gepard: Wh- You!?!?

Sampo grins wide and darts off, Gepard launches after him out of habit, and somehow, even with Gepard being new and alien to the Luofu, Sampo always seems to stay juuuuuuust within sight, just close enough not to lose him or get lost completely.

Gepard is lead all the way out near the starskiff building grounds when he finally has to stop, because Sampo somehow scales the damn wall like a nasty little lizard, gets all the way to the top, then winks at him over the roof and tells him he'll see him later, have fun, give Serval a kiss for him back home!! Gepard flips him off even though Sampo has already turned around and left skxjkdkdmfkf

But then he finally sits down and looks around him and realizes that oh. He feels kind of. Better now. More on even footing. Stable ground. There's no snow, but the high steel walls and corridors here are more familiar to him than all the wide open space and brightly colored buildings of the main tourist section he'd been in. The background hum is quieter and gentler here, and it reminds him more of Serval's shop, as opposed to Starskip Alley's throngs of chattering people and fast-flying ships. The little pangs that made his chest feel hollow have eased up. ♡

HSR spoilers under the cut regarding Firefly, Sam and Stelle

I'll start by saying I found Sam and Firefly incredibly boring as individuals. Like, they were fine. You've got the Obvious Tearjerker Love Interest cute girl and broody soulless killer robot. They both felt very flat, in part because they had very little screentime, but I especially though the whole date/emotional bonding/death with Firefly thing was super forced.

Like, why is Stelle so attached to this Literal Stranger? She's cute but you literally met her To-day. I mean I'd cry too if I ended up with ectoplasm splattered on my face after said cute girl explodes, but the narrative revolved around an emotional connection that was much deeper than the horror of "oh my God I'm wearing a person's organs." And I didn't think that connection was particularly earned...

Until we see that Firefly IS Sam! Sam, the Stellaron Hunter, who probably watched Stelle before she got dumped on the space station. Sam, who was very possibly Stelle's bestie. Sam, the armor that Firefly pilots when she can't interact with the world herself. They knew each other!

Acheron has a bad memory. She relies on emotions to fill in the gaps where her mind cannot.

In the same vein, while Stelle has forgotten Sam and Firefly, her emotions remember. That's why things moved so quickly. That's why they were acting like they had an entire arc together after a single day, because they already have

Though Wubbaboos that live close to humans often pick up the basics of human language for the purpose of communication with them, many believe that they do possess a language of their own that they use between each other. However, as many sounds used in their native manner of speech cannot be faithfully replicated by a human, attempts to comprehend it have been few and far between...

An interesting read to be sure, though just how worthwhile it is remains to be seen... The author uses a bit too many assumptions at times for Dan Heng's liking. Still, he continues reading further - ignoring the squirrel running around him excitedly.

At least, until he calmly and silently picks up the other book lying beside him and holds it up with perfect timing, allowing Caelus to faceplant spectacularly into The Musical History of Jarilo-VI. Too bad this doesn't work as a method of knowledge transmission.

It is only then that he glances up at the Trailblazer.
