i. it starts on a day like any other, like any good story. he's ten. intelligent, unpopular, being raised by his father: his only surviving parent. a dentist and a man too out of touch with his own emotions to guide his son through grief, bastian is alone most days. so he escapes. he's read every book he could get his hands on, devouring one novel after another with the frenzied desire only accessible to neglected children. and suddenly there's a book unlike any other. when you stop reading those other books, you get to be a little boy again, the grizzled old shopkeeper tells him. those other books are safe. he steals the book when the old man's back is turned, and quickly loses himself in the neverending story. he follows the great hero atreyu on his quest to save fantasia from the nothing, but both protagonist and reader are left utterly baffled when, in the final chapter, the childlike empress herself tells atreyu that he cannot save fantasia. but bastian can. ii. he gives the empress a new name, and she is reborn with a new identity. a new fantasia to rule over. she entrusts bastian with auryn, an amulet which gives the wearer unlimited wishes. it's only after the boy becomes a man while adventuring through fantasia that he learns the cost of bearing auryn. every wish steals a memory from the human who possesses auryn, until they find themselves helplessly lost in fantasia, with no memory of who or where they are. with only his own name and the memory of his father remaining, bastian spends decades toiling to reclaim everything he's lost. the lost memories have to go somewhere, and so they do. a mine, where each memory becomes trapped in the stone as a painting on canvas. by the time he returns to his world as a little boy again, he's lived to be an old man once already. some years go by, and then he meets a girl named dorothy. when auryn reveals itself to her, bastian expects their journey to end in fantasia. instead, he finds himself in a land called oz. ozma takes him in, and in exchange, he donates auryn to the emerald city. in fantasia, he nearly killed his best friend in a fit of power-hungry rage. he would not make the same mistakes again in oz. there, he's known for his compassion and his love. iii. in enchanted falls, truthfully not much has changed for him. while he doesn't have the memories of all he's learned in fantasia, the curse couldn't take from him how tender and full of love his adventures made him. he's a painter in his spare time, and teaches others about art for work. very rarely is he found without at least one other "oz" character, but he's very friendly -- albeit a little awkward -- and loves to help the people around him in whatever ways he can.

╰     cis man , he/him/his     ☆     𝐎𝐍𝐂𝐄 𝐔𝐏𝐎𝐍 𝐀 𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄 …   we’re introduced to MARCUS PRINCE , the 35 year old OWNER at THE ROYAL SIP from enchanted falls who bears a striking resemblance to BILLY MAGNUSSEN. the whispers in the wind tells us of their CHARMING and DECEPTIVE reputation, that’s why the townsfolk often are reminded of chasing a new face every night, champagne service until even your own face is foreign in the mirror; one may smile and smile and be a villain; a lovely young girl lies on a bed in the dark listening to a fairy tale, but the storyteller’s hands are all over her; happily ever after doesn't have to be the end of the story, you just need to find a new beginning.  they are often haunted by dreams of a life lived as PRINCE CHARMING and THE BIG BAD WOLF ( CINDERELLA, LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD, THE THREE LITTLE PIGS ) .

i. it started innocently enough. at least, that's what he'd have you believe. the ball was held because he had reached an age where a man should be married, particularly a man of status who needed to produce heirs. but settling down meant settling. he and ella were happy at first. in the beginning, they were both so happy. the prince swore that being married was exactly what his life was missing, and was the most perfect husband ella could have asked for. he showered her with affection, with gifts. with poems, even. but he quickly found that you can only write so many poems about the same subject. and his eye began to wander. ella learned of the affair in the same moment she found out she was stripped of her royal title -- the prince's new bride had use of it. on the day of the wedding, ella's godmother turned the prince into a fearsome beast at the altar, announcing to the guests that now the wolf in sheep's clothing could no longer hide behind his deceitful tongue. now everyone would know his true nature. exiled to the woods, his title fell to his younger brother.

ii. in this world, he's a man again. ella is still his ex-wife. his brother is still his brother, but their royal status in enchanted falls is changed somewhat. sons of a developer who is said to have moved to the town some years ago with the hopes of monetizing the falls, whether marcus wanted the company or not, this title also fell to his brother. marcus instead owns the royal sip. while many in town wonder how it's such a successful business under seemingly inept ownership, there's more to marcus than meets the eye. he looks just like everyone else again. and he knows all too well that the easiest way to avoid suspicion is to appear harmless.

iii. marcus is really good at deceiving people. if anyone in town actually suspects him of being as devious and power-hungry as he really is, it would be only a handful of people at most and marcus would almost certainly be blackmailing or otherwise threatening them to ensure his secret is safe. the main thing people would think negatively of him for is his family, and their kind of enchanted falls backstory. he's naturally under a lot of suspicion because of this, so he really plays up the kind of clueless himbo thing as much as he can to throw people off.

╰          cis  man  ,  he/him/his          ☆          𝐎𝐍𝐂𝐄  𝐔𝐏𝐎𝐍  𝐀  𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄  …      we’re  introduced  to  CIARAN  REYES  ,  the  FORTY  ONE  years  old  PIANO  INSTRUCTOR  at  MELODIOUS  MUSIC  SHOP  from  enchanted  falls  who  bears  a  striking  resemblance  to  OSCAR  ISAAC.  the  whispers  in  the  wind  tells  us  of  their  CHARMING  and MOODY  reputation,  that’s  why  the  townsfolk  often  are  reminded  of  manufactured memories  of  a  childhood  spent  in  the  hamptons,  as  ephemeral  and  shining  as  sea  foam;  expensive  red  wine  spilled  on  a  pack  of  cigarettes,  he’s  quitting  for  the  sixth  time  this  month;  the  cruelness  that  comes  from  a  fatal  lack  of  tenderness,  playing  people  like  chess  pieces  to  get  the  attention  you  deserve  now;  if  i  cannot  inspire  love,  i  will  cause  fear.    they  are  often  haunted  by  dreams  of  a  life  lived  as  CAPTAIN  HOOK  (  PETER  PAN  )  .    

i. because we stan disabled characters in this house, ciaran is still missing his left hand! the prosthetic he wears in enchanted falls is a somewhat rudimentary split hook rather than an actual prosthetic hand. he has basically full range of function with it, however, and is still an incredibly gifted piano player. his cursed memories allude to the loss of his hand as an infant. the story goes that a loose string from his mother's skirt got wrapped around his left hand while he was playing with it before bed. his parents left for a date, and by the time they went to get him in his crib the next morning, the circulation had been cut off for too long to save the hand.

ii. there's something funny about curses and the human ego. consciously, ciaran knows that no one leaves enchanted falls, not for any reason. but his family is incredibly wealthy, and have been for generations. why wouldn't they have summered in the hamptons? why shouldn't he have gone to eton? he's a gifted storyteller, and a convincing liar. when the dreams hit, it became just one too many versions of his life to carry around. the depersonalization became unmanageable, and his life hit a steady decline until it seemingly bottomed out.

iii. until around six months ago, ciaran was an english and history professor at the local college. that ended in an episode of public intoxication when he was meant to be teaching about the golden age of piracy. he had a meltdown, shouting at his students until he collapsed onto his desk, weeping hysterically. thankfully the owner of melodious music shop is an old family friend, and he's making just barely enough to scrape by. family fortune all but pissed away in the span of just a year, the ones closest to him ignored all the signs of the change in him until it was too late. just two years ago, ciaran reyes was a charming socialite, eligible bachelor, and esteemed professor. now he spends his time hunched over the piano of his musty, cluttered family home.

i. esme grew up a ballerina and a straight a student. while her parents were kind, loving, and supportive she couldn't help but push herself to do her best, constantly. at everything. and then her best wasn't enough, and she began demanding more of herself than she had to give. it wasn't sustainable, not by any means. she was on track to be the prima ballerina out of high school, but then senior year rolled around, and with it the race for prom king and queen. it was the crowning jewel in her adolescent life -- literally. esme and everett met in freshman year and started dating in sophomore. getting crowned at prom was supposed to be the start of her life, not the peak of it.

ii. that was how she graduated high school. honors, prom queen, the perfect relationship. she had the perfect life waiting for her after graduation. but it just wasn't meant to be. all it took was one misstep during her morning jog. one little twisted ankle. and all of her plans for the future vanished. that wasn't really the truth, though. she had everett. she was intelligent, kind, beautiful -- just because she couldn't be a ballerina anymore didn't mean her life was over. but mourning is a long, gruesome process. it's the reason she and everett are only still engaged after so many years; they live together and he's her favorite person, but no one would guess esme is the holdout on sealing the deal. she insists that she still isn't ready, but can't seem to give a reason why.

iii. esme started teaching around the time the dreams started. mina murray was, after all, a school teacher. while esme never really considers the dreams anything but, she can't deny they gave her a sudden desire to take better care of herself, if only so she could take better care of others. while the dreams have had a confusing or even negative effect on most other people in town, they pulled esme from the depths of her depression and gave her the motivation to finally move forward with her life. what's curious about the dreams she and everett are having, however, is they come in the form of a thick and shimmering mist.

╰     cis man, he/him/his     ☆     𝐎𝐍𝐂𝐄 𝐔𝐏𝐎𝐍 𝐀 𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄 …   we’re introduced to HUNTER GASTON BOUCHET , the THIRTY EIGHT  year old SHERIFF at ENCHANTED FALLS SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT from enchanted falls who bears a striking resemblance to LUKE EVANS. the whispers in the wind tells us of their PASSIONATE and SELF-CENTERED reputation, that’s why the townsfolk often are reminded of weekends  spent  at  a  self-decorated  hunting  lodge  covered  in  antlers  and  animal  skins,  cigarette  and  whiskey  stained  blue  jeans,  a  wolfish  and  sharp  grin  which  makes  plain  an  intention  to  live  fast  and  leave  a  pretty  corpse.  they are often haunted by dreams of a life lived as GASTON LEGUME ( BEAUTY AND THE BEAST ) .

i. what he's told is his family has french roots, going back to nobility. even in enchanted falls, he has the wealth, the status, the power. his first name here is hunter, but perhaps even magic couldn't completely penetrate gaston's massive ego. gaston. it's his middle name in this world, and he's gone by that name for as long as he can remember.

ii. here, adem is his friend again. here, they never stopped. once upon a time, they were boys together: a prince and the son of a duke. inseparable until magic tore them away from each other. that curse removed all memory of adem from gaston's memory and warped his personality. everything became bigger, louder, more out of control. his competitive nature and the aggression he was raised with were fanned into a blaze of self-serving, furious impulse. people were hurt. lives were lost. in enchanted falls, he has no idea the scale of damage he caused to his original story. he has no remorse. no guilt.

iii. when the dreams come to him, he writes them off as nightmares at first. horrible images of falling to his own death, adem dead or dying, the townsfolk he swore to protect turning on both of them. and then there's her. the dreams about belle started only recently. he has no idea adem is having them too; the other man has always been better at keeping secrets. but over the past three months, the mystery girl from his dreams is all sheriff bouchet seems to talk about.

╰          demigirl  ,  she/they          ☆          𝐎𝐍𝐂𝐄  𝐔𝐏𝐎𝐍  𝐀  𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄  …      we’re  introduced  to  JEMIMA  STERN  ,  the TWENTY  FOUR  year  old  COLLEGE  STUDENT,  ACTOR,  AND  WAITRESS  at  ZIPPITY  DOO  DINER  from  enchanted  falls  who  bears  a  striking  resemblance  to  DIANA  SILVERS.  the  whispers  in  the  wind  tells  us  of  their  SELF-ASSURED  and IRRESPONSIBLE  reputation,  that’s  why  the  townsfolk  often  are  reminded  of  the  snowy  wings  of  a  beautiful  bird  of  prey;  scattered  pages  of  books,  plays,  music  riddled  with  annotations;  looking  the  room  at  an  audition  and  seeing  at  once  the  lost  childhood  she  clings  to  and  the  deadly  competition  in  her  eyes.they  are  often  haunted  by  dreams  of  a  life  lived  as  SARAH  WILLIAMS  (  LABYRINTH  )  .

i. jemima was raised by an absent single father who has since passed away. she has no memories of her mother, but she and her father kept a scrapbook of playbills and newspaper clippings from over the years. according to her cursed memories, her mother had an identity crisis shortly after jemima was born and left the town to pursue her dream of becoming an actress. because jemima believes her mother somehow managed to escape from enchanted falls, she believes she can as well. also important to note that she's an only child here, no toby!

ii. jemima is likely one of the most well-known people in town, if only because of how front and center she always insists on being. she's also held about two dozen different jobs at one point or another, in addition to frequenting almost every local business for one thing or another -- supplies like props and wardrobe for the theatre, thrifting furniture and home decor for her shithole apartment, trying to find the best places to eat. she has a bit of a rachel berry complex: she can be annoying as hell about her talent and ambition, but her confidence is well deserved.

iii. jemima was diagnosed with clinical depression and adhd in elementary school, then general anxiety && panic disorder with pmdd in middle school, and finally ocd and pots in high school. it wasn't until after her twenty first birthday someone actually discovered the cause: asperger's syndrome. paired with a childhood riddled with neglect and emotional manipulation, she didn't learn her central nervous system was irreparably damaged until she'd already learned how to be an adult once. her pots and sensory issues sometimes make it difficult to perform, but it's the one thing she's so dedicated to that she can justify the inevitable burnout.
