Galinda knew about working hard, despite the impression she gave and was held by those around her. After all, in Gilikin --- her family had needed to work hard in order to achieve every single thing. It was her name that accomplished most things, however, and it was why she needed to work hard in order maintain it's status and importance. It gained her everything she had --- including her place here at Shiz... but it would not make this wand do what it was meant to. It was tragigorical in a way, how the one thing Galinda actually wanted was the one thing that seemed out of reach. Everything else was just something she needed to aid her family, her people --- a facet of the carefully crafted tool she needed to be.

But this ? Magic and sorcery --- this was the one thing that she wanted for herself. Yes, she was here at Shiz to find a worthy and higher ranking partner and secure her family's line and bring it's status and wealth back to Gilikin --- but the study and career she gained in the process was just hers. Her own bit of individutalitisim and, perhaps rebellion. " Oh, Elphie --- this wand might as well just be a hair pin ! " she bemoaned, only willing to show her frustration in privacy --- as Madam Morrible had left them to practice in the lecture room alone. " This is positivilliy hopeless ! " ( @perfectonempty )

My brain just realized that Oersted from Live a Live is the video game version of Elphaba. "No one mourns the wicked" is such a great song for tragic villains.

Elphaba’s fingers twitched against the pages of her book. She’d been trying to study for the past hour, but Galinda had insisted upon rambling about Fiyero’s arrival. Elphaba didn’t know who Fiyero was nor why she should care, but that didn’t stop her roommate from talking about him. She had been trying to listen, just in case Galinda was trying to include her in the conversation, but it was hard to listen and study at the same time. She shut her book with a sharp snap and turned to face Galinda. “I’m trying to study, and you’re making it very difficult to concentrate.” She had half a mind to go to the library and resume her studying there.

there  was  no  knowing  how  long  she  had  been  exiled      —      time  all  seemed  to  bleed  together  when  running  for  ones life.      never  more  than  a  few  days  in  one  spot,    and  if  she  was  feeling  LONELY,    visiting  the  animals  that  were  sheltered  just  outside  of  munchkinland.      most  of  which  were  unable  to  speak;      but  they  still  were  much  better  company  than  the  munchkins  ever  were  anyway.      elphaba  couldn’t  stick  around          ( you  had  to  prioritize  their  safety,    and  you  being  there  put  them  in  danger ).      so  a  trek  through  the  forest  was  where  she  ended  up.      the  broom  would  be  quicker      …      but  with  it  comes  the  attention.      the  sound  of  rushing  wind  through  the  trees  was  soothing,    the  nature  surrounding  her  unconcerned  with  her  wickedness.  

the  peace  was  short  lived.      a  branch  snapping  in  the  distance,    a  glimmer  of  that  green  uniform.      the  wizard’s  guard.          ( but  you  had  been  so  careful! )      her  throat  was  closing,    the  pounding  in  her  chest  painful.      it  wasn’t  her  capture  she  feared      —      it  was  the  animals.      they  couldn’t  be  discovered  because  of  her.      elphaba  moved  behind  the  vines,    rushing  between  thick  trunks  to  shield  her.      the  anxiety  quickly  shifted to  her  brows  furrowing  in  confusion.      utterances  under  hushed  breath  were  unmistakable.

❝ fiyero? ❞          long  fingers  moved  the  shrubbery  away  as  she  slipped  from  the  shadows.      her  immediate  reaction  was  to  run  and  embrace  him      —      but  she  held  herself  back.       ❝ what  are  you  doing  here?      you  shouldn’t  be  here! ❞          she  scolded  in  a  hushed  voice.      gaze  flicked  around  frantically,    making  sure  there  were  no  interlopers.      he  couldn’t  be  seen  anywhere  near  her.      if  he  were  and  didn’t  turn  her  in      ….      there  was  no  telling  what  would  be  done  to  him.          ❝ unless  you  are  here  to  detain  me  or  throw  me  onto  a  stake,    you  must  leave! ❞          elphaba  couldn’t  allow  herself  to  hope.      couldn’t  allow  herself  to  be  near  anyone  she  cared  about.      every  second  they  stood  in  the  forest  together  put  him  more  at  risk,          ❝ thoughtless! ❞          she  stalked  over  him,    standing  directly  in  front  of  fiyero,    and  she  felt  her  defenses  drop.      he  was  so  close.      was  he  there  for  her?      or  simply  wandered  too  far  when  on  a  hunt?          ❝ please.      go  back  to  oz.      pretend  as  though  you  never  saw  me  in  these  woods. ❞
