Marnie comes from a farming family in Nebraska.

Her parents are loving, but strict, especially her father, who always kept a tight household.

She’s spent her whole life wanting something different and feeling gulty for it.

It’s not that she doesn’t love her home and her family and their lifestyle, she does, it’s what she’s used to and it’s cozy and warm and full of love, but she just doesn’t want to continue with the farm. 

Part of the reason she feels guilty is because if she doesn’t take the farm, it’s left up to her little brother to continue it, and if he doesn’t, the family farm could be shut down or bought out by corporate farming. The other reason is just that she feels like she’s letting her parents down. She knows they’re proud of her, but they’re hurting, too.

Her older brother already left the family long ago. He was “troubled”, could never keep up with the farming lifestyle and gave his parents hell. He ran away the day he turned 18. Marnie worries that she’s hurting her parents in this way, too, reminding them of the pain of seeing another child leave.

A piece of her also feels guilty leaving because she’s no longer able to help her family economically now. Even worse, she’s the one who needs help. After a horrible natural disaster in 2019, that included a major flood and tornadoes, the second one in her lifetime to wreck her family’s livelihood, they’re still not fully recovered.

She still has nightmares about the tornadoes from her childhood, and reliving the situation in 2019 was very traumatic. Wind scares the crap out of her now.

She is tragically dramatic, lol. Like, Edgar Allan Poe dramatic, who is, in fact, her favorite author and someone whose writing inspires her greatly.

She loves writing, and wants to publish her poetry very badly.

Honestly, coming to SanFran was kind of on a whim. She’d been saving up money for awhile, so she was somewhat prepared (honestly it is nowhere near enough money), but the timing was random and she didn’t really say her goodbyes. 

She felt like she had too much baggage there and desperately needed change.

She feels like a failure because she’s letting people down. 

She never did anything that would make anyone especially proud, she’s branching off randomly, and she’s worried she’ll never get published (and worse, doesn’t even sell anything if she does).

She’s kind of heartbroken right now. She was deeply in love with someone for years. When they finally dated, she cheated on Marnie. Marnie put up with it for awhile, which just harmed her more and more. When she finally had enough, the other left her high and dry.

Marnie loves watching movies. You can find her at the theaters even when she’s off work. She’ll movie hop, sneak in and out of different movies, and get excited at new previews. Thrillers are her favorite. She thinks there’s something poetic about movies in general, and thrillers really speak to the heart of most people. Finding fear in any given situation is just human.

She’s obsessed with a darker aesthetic, though you can’t tell just by looking at her. Her brain’s imagery is if Edgar Allan Poe was an aesthetic. She likes to think she sees the world through this lens.

BIOGRAPHY:

Beatrice Abbott was born as the second child of a loving family. From the very moment she opened her eyes there was noting but warmth. The Abbotts had been among the list of sacred twenty-eight once, but Bea was just another proof that their family had made the choice, taken a step away from the rigidness of society; or at least those within it. As such, even during her early years the values or kindness and sticking up for the right thing were made clear to her. It was a wonderful childhood, one in which the person she’d come to admire most wasn’t her parents but her older sister Rosmerta. Ros was a joy to be around and soon after they became three, graced with a younger brother, Anthony.

The trio, despite the years between them, got along well and had their fun moments. Beatrice became very protective of them and her family, knowing that no matter what she always wanted them safe and sound, happy and cared for. The Abbotts were spared their children from the forced classes the previous pureblood generations still had to go through, but Bea still fell in love with the idea of dancing and requested flying lessons long before their Hogwarts letters arrived.

Seeing Ros leave was a hard day, but it only meant that her day of leaving had come all the closer for it. And when that day came, the letter arrived, Beatrice couldn’t have been prouder and happier. She was ready for what she considered to be the journey of a lifetime. The hat wasted no time, calling out Gryffindor the moment it touched the head. It was a new home, a second home in which she found the joys of mischief and other things, making friends along the way.

Outside the walls the war was brewing, a slow simmer that kept growing further and further. By the time the tensions could be seen even within the castle Anthony had joined them, although within a different house. Bea was proud and the Abbott siblings reunited at last. It was also during that time she found her love for quidditch, joined the Gryffindor quidditch team as a chaser. Hogwarts was her home, despite how much she loved the home her parents provided. A home, away from home.

During fifth year, Beatrice was approached by Edgar Bones. And while at first, she played hard to get, claiming quidditch took too much time that answer didn’t fly for all too long and she accepted to go out with him. Not once did she regret the choice as Edgar made her feel things she’d never felt before. And then he graduated. For two whole years it was a mess of letters, but she was determined. In the absence of Edgar, she instead focused on her grades, worked hard to leave with excellent results and a chance to go wherever life would take her.

When graduation drew near, the witch had made up her mind. Despite everything that may have been pointing towards picking up quidditch, her true passion lay within the mysteries of another thing altogether. Beatrice had discovered her passion not just within sports, but her wish to know and her burning refusal to give up, stubborn as she was. A relative overheard her thoughts, the conversation with her parents and being an unspeakable themself recommended the Department of Mysteries to her.

It was as thought a whole other world opened. The Department of Mysteries was everything Bea had wanted, despite a lack of chance to discuss things outside of work and with others than those who shared the same Department. If anyone were to ask, she would simply tell them she’s trying to understand the joys in life. This couldn’t have been further from the truth as the witch worked within the Space and Death Chamber, fluttering between research and the need to understand the machinations of the universe.

The time after Hogwarts did not just come with the work at the ministry, no. She also came to see her sister happy and in a relationship that she had no doubt would eventually blossom into something beautiful; more so than it already had. Her and Edgar were going strong, equally. If she had to imagine her life with anyone, it would have been him. And then it all changed. Ros and Alastor split, her sister left behind with seemingly no reason. Both her need to protect as well as her own fears kicked in. Perhaps unfounded, but to see two people so strong come to such a harsh end out of nowhere? It left her worrying. It left her terrified that Edgar, despite how much she trusted him could do the same.

The day she approached him to talk, not her usual confident mess but instead a person she usually couldn’t be found looking like, the witch began to talk. Her words were a mess, the message equally confusing as she tried to explain to him that splitting would be rough. Whatever her words may have been, the fear having her fumble, the sudden agreement from Edgar shocked her to her core, left her speechless. There she was, trying to tell him about her being scared that he would leave her, only for him to leave her moments after in agreement to her words? Just what had she said to make it seem as though this was something she wanted? Things were over, just like that. Perhaps it was the ease in which he had agree that made her fears surface. That day she simply walked out.

For a while she kept her distance, only returning once she was sure that whatever emotions she still felt, whatever feelings she still held were pushed down far, far below. Only seeing Edgar would sometimes make the construct built wobble. Her entire focus was on her family and on work now, on her friends, both those from Hogwarts and after.

The years went by. The war raging on becoming bigger and bigger. No longer the low simmer it once had been, the fight is on. Now all she seeks is to join the Order of the Phoenix, wanting to be part of the fight and to bring whatever it was she had to the table. This was her new purpose; to help and fight and show those simple-minded fools what they were doing to the world.

With a mother who beat her brothers into running the family pizzeria in Brooklyn, and a father who broke records in the boxing world - it made sense that Marnie was able to roll herself over, lift her head and attempt crawling at just three days old in the hospital’s nursery. Between the new member of the family obviously being a handful, and the strains of the pizzeria along with the extensive work of a boxer, it was a quick decision that led the Dixon family to Chicago; uprooting Marnie’s mom’s family in Brooklyn and flying them out to be with her father’s side.

Even with the extra set of hands, Marnie was uberly self-efficient. She didn’t mean to be, but the attitude that came from here when others attempt to assert themselves or give her the solution, was a natural response to people underestimating her. By age four, she was attempting to help her mom at the pizzeria. Though her mom shooed her so that she could be a kid, Marnie just wound up being pushed to her father’s workouts.

Marnie’s fascination with boxing began so young, that she could never pinpoint when it genuinely moved her to the point of her wanting to become a professional boxer. All she remembers is watching matches at home or even at the pizzeria, training alongside her dad, and attending his matches. It was her mother who was a bit more hesitant with allowing Marnie to get so caught up in a male-dominating atmosphere. Though, everyone was sure to find out that nothing was going to stop her; not when she had her mind made up.

Whilst in high school, Marnie was a crowd favorite, mainly due to her father’s shadow. This was even though she paved her own way as a golden girl amongst her peers for years; her gym teachers and coaches always managing to bring her father’s name up in conversation. It only really died down during her Junior year, when her father retired and in the same breath teased Marnie’s efforts to be just as good - if not better - than him. Her father became her own personal trainer, supporter, and manager all rolled into one. She was lucky, seeing as though others in the sports realm aren’t as fortunate to be able to say their manager genuinely cared for their best interest.

Her father and mother are like night and day; where her mother pushed her to attend a university, her father threw his hands up and claimed it was all Marnie’s decision. She made it work, attending NYU for sports medicine and physiology whilst moving up the ranks in the boxing world. Just like her father, she was breaking records. She managed to obtain the nickname “Knockout” due to the speed in which she could knock an opponent out cold. It was the highs such as being known as “Knockout” and the record breaking, that made her question why she even bothered with obtaining a degree in the first place. That was until an injury sustained from one of her last matches landed her with a serious concussion. It was doctor’s orders that benched Marnie and made her come back to Chicago full-time; she hadn’t announced retirement against her father’s wishes, and is trying to prove she can get back out there whilst getting into the swing of her personal trainer career to pass the time until then.

Marnie is a firecracker; always the life of the party, though she’s aware there’s a time and a place for everything. Her off times are usually spent at the bar, partaking in karaoke night or trivia with a group of friends. She’s good at reading others’ body language, which is something that stems from her boxing career and having to size up opponents. This actually makes it easy and quick for her to build connections with others. Also probably the reason why she branches off from her friends at events and winds up making more just in line for the bathroom. Marnie is highly aware of sport stats, and loves to attend games of varying types. Though she tends to find herself being the center of attention, she actually doesn’t crave it? Marnie is more fixated on enjoying moments and making the most of them. She may come off as a little rough-around-the-edges, but is one of the sweetest people you will ever come across; the woman always going out of her way to make others feel comfortable and making sure they are also having a good time. Because of this, Marnie is the one in the friend group who everyone tends to gravitate towards in a ‘if you’re not going - then I’m not going’ sort of way. She is also blatant and will voice when she’s not having a great time; even will point out who you’re talking to is a scum bag (oops?). Fiercely loyal to a default, the woman is known for being everyone’s bravest soldier out there on the front lines of their battles. This is even done sometimes to an excessive degree, if Marnie deems them as one of her people. She also just doesn’t know when to give up on people - even when they don’t deserve her help. Though, at the end of the day, her loyalty is one of the reasons she’s such a great friend to have in your court. She tends to bite off more than she can chew, which is a common occurrence all throughout her life, but she loves to solve her own dilemmas and others’ as well because of it; just don’t attempt to solve her problems for her. She can crack jokes and chillax, or be dancing ontop of a table - never any inbetween with her.

Early Life

When Sarah was a child, her teachers used to call her Matilda. She wasn’t magical, and she didn’t have a principal who would throw her around by her pigtails, but she had a love for education that even the adults thought was peculiar. At the age of six, she was received an autism diagnosis, which seemed to make sense to everyone but Sarah. Some teachers spoke to her like she was hard of hearing, when she understood things probably better than they did. Eventually, Sarah tried her best to mask her autism by copying the social cues of her younger sister and her peers, blending in as much as she possibly could. Finding this exhausting, Sarah often sat at the side with a book in her hand, creating a new world for herself where she could just be her.

Her home life could, at times, be compared to Matilda’s. Her father left when Sarah was four. Like most things, she remembered it vividly, because he had taken her to the park and hesitated to make conversation over a melting ice cream cone. It was the first time they had properly spent time together - she just didn’t realise it would be the last. Sarah’s mother, Lucía, didn’t deal with it well. She drank, cried, and drank some more. The drink eventually turned to other narcotics, and then eventually a cocktail of Class A drugs. At first, Sarah tried to help her, but she knew when she wasn’t wanted. Instead, she just fell back into the books. At least the words would never leave her.

Sarah’s mom eventually got over her father the way most women do - by getting under another man. And another. And another. It was like a revolving door of men with loose ties, reddening cheeks and tousled hair leaving their small apartment. Occasionally, Sarah would end up eating breakfast with one, staring blankly at them across a plate of eggs.

It wasn’t a complete loss, however. Sarah eventually gained three siblings. Penelope was first - who she shared a father with. Dana and Marnie came after, during her mom's rambunctious periods which resulted in them having different fathers, but it didn’t matter to her. Sarah was fiercely protective over her siblings, and she felt it was her duty to protect them from harm.

Teenage Years

It was strange how someone could go from being a Matilda in elementary school to being “uncooperative and unkind” in high school, according to her teachers. Her English teacher, however, was fascinated with how Sarah had a striking ability to remember and recall all different types of information, prompting her school to believe she had an eidetic memory. Doing some research, she learned that this was rare, and would probably require a home visit, so she covered this up as well as she could, too - dumbing herself down to a 'normal' level and becoming even quieter in school. As Sarah got older, she became more and more disillusioned with the world of East Haven. It didn’t help that Sarah was known as a freak in school due to her intelligence and shy nature. Kids would pick on her, often tripping her up in the corridor or stealing her books and ripping pages out, knowing that she wouldn't respond. Her younger and fiercer sister Penelope would often deal with the bullies for her. She didn’t let it bother her - she just went back to her fantasies about finally getting out of East Haven and leaving the shit-for-brains in high school. However, she did have some friends. Daisy Levitt was her best friend, to be exact, despite the fact that they came from different worlds. Daisy was beautiful, popular and kind. People loved her, and Sarah always wondered why she had chosen to be her friend. Of course, they were similar in more unfortunate ways than Sarah had ever considered, but they didn't know about this until later in their friendship. She opened up to her, and was surprised with how Daisy never seemed to think she was weird for being different.

Sarah had another best friend - if he could be called that. Andrew Jackson. It was like a sad teen movie from the early-2000s. Sarah was head over heels from the moment she laid eyes on him. Maybe it was because he was the only one who didn’t pick on her. Maybe it was because he smiled at her in the hallway when everyone else looked through her. Whatever the reason, she struck up some sort of alliance with him, although she wanted so much more. Eventually, the two began what she thought was a relationship, and he became her first everything. He dominated all of her thoughts, and she couldn’t wait for the day that he told his friends and they could finally be open about their relationship. Only, of course, that day never came. Instead, Andrew unceremoniously broke up with her on a random Thursday and he never looked at her in the hallways again. It was Sarah's first, but unfortunately not the last, experience of heartbreak.

College Days

Sarah had been accepted at a variety of colleges which included Brown and NYU. She had been anxiously debating which to go with, when she got the news - her mom was pregnant again. Her second-eldest sister, Nel, was only fifteen, and Dana was only ten. She wasn't going to leave her to raise a baby alone as she knew her mom would be incapable. Instead of fulfilling her wishes of moving to a different state and finally becoming the person she knew she was supposed to become, Sarah stayed in East Haven and went to the Heywood University so she could help her family. She was used to making sacrifices for her family, and she would continue to do so for as long as they needed her, including Penelope's accident.

Gale Peterson

Sarah eventually got a job in Book Haven, which turned out to be like her second home. She loved being surrounded by the things she loved the most, even if she had to tear herself away from the literature to serve customers. Every day was monotonously the same, until a young deaf boy got lost in the store. Sarah, being fluent in ASL, was able to help him find his father. They got to talking, and soon Sarah found out his name was Gale, and they exchanged numbers. After date one, Sarah knew she was in love. The two became inseparable after that, and Sarah soon moved in with Gale and Klaus and they became their own version of a family. Five years later, and Sarah truly believed that she had found her happily ever after. That was, until, Gale was attacked on duty and he almost lost his life. After that, he was never the same. He became more aggressive, and they started fighting more than they ever had. Eventually, Gale could see that they weren't happy anymore and he broke up with Sarah. She went from having her perfect family to having something broken. Just like before.

Present Day

Sarah never ended up leaving East Haven, but that ended up becoming a blessing rather than a curse. She rekindled with Gale after he took some time to figure out what he needed, and the two quickly got engaged. She became Klaus's legal mother through adoption, and they are on their way to becoming a truly happy family. She has hopes of returning to college to complete a Masters in Greek Classics and extend their family. Sarah constantly has a voice in the back of her head telling her that it is too good to be true, and she is waiting for something to come along and ruin her dreams, just like it always does. Until that moment, she's just going to enjoy it.

Born Marina 'Marnie' Lopez, the young girl legally changed her name to Kiera as a way to drive some distance between herself and her family when she turned 18; Feeling a bit suffocated and needing to re-invent herself. It’s funny though, since her eldest sister raised her, you can see so many similarities (the sarcasm, the intelligence and mannerisms) even though she claims they’re so vastly different. Kiera currently attends university online for film studies. She’s aiming on becoming a writer and director - mainly within the horror realm. This love for horror derives from a young age, and she tends to be a bit of a movie snob because of her studies. You can catch her at the movie theatre almost every Friday. Kiera has been working as a ghostwriter since she was 16 (thanks, Wattpad). Ultimately, Kiera is driven and seems well put-together to those who are unaware of how young she is on the internet and it opened doors for her in the writing realm. She is aware of this aspect of herself, and hates it, but isn’t sure on how to really get better; it sort of became more of a last resort form of acceptance, seeing that she harbors feelings of not being enough to make her mother finally break the addiction, or even get her father to stay - she now owns up to being the source of her own problems as opposed to fixing the root issue that lays deeper. Alfred Hitchcock relished placing his ice blonde heroines in jeopardy. He broke them down emotionally, and even physically. Preoccupied with manipulating their screen images - dictating the tiniest details of costume, coiffure, makeup and shoes - Hitchcock eventually strove to control their private lives as well.

"I always believe in following the advice of the playwright (Victorien) Sardou," Hitchcock once confessed. "He said, 'Torture the women!' The trouble today is that we don't torture women enough."

The Hitchcock Blonde reached her apex in three films with Grace Kelly (Dial 'M' for Murder, Rear Window, To Catch a Thief). Kelly epitomized his idée fixe: the ice goddess who could unleash unexpected flames of passion. The camera, standing in for Hitchcock, clearly worships her.

Vertigo was his most autobiographical work. James Stewart played Scottie, a man obsessed with Kim Novak's Madeleine, who was herself haunted. After her death, Scottie forces an unwilling second woman (Judy, also played by Novak) to duplicate every aspect of the dead woman's attire and hairstyle. The plot creepily echoed Hitchcock's domination of his female stars. Vertigo's recurring shot of a tightly wound coil of ash-blonde hair atop Novak's head encapsulates the theme of obsession. It's a hypnotic vortex into which Stewart (or Hitchcock) could fall and disappear forever.

In Psycho, Hitchcock treated his blonde viciously, killing off Janet Leigh's pert embezzler less than halfway through the film. The shower murder was widely regarded as the most shocking act in film history up to that point.

With Tippi Hedren, star of The Birds and Marnie, his obsession finally spun out of control, like the berserk carousel at the climax of Strangers on a Train. He discovered Hedren in a TV commercial. A model, she had no plans for an acting career. Signing her to an exclusive contract, he launched his most intensive and intrusive campaign to play Pygmalion, as detailed in Donald Spoto's biography The Dark Side of Genius.

Hitchcockian men would go to any length to gain possession of their female leads. In Marnie, where Mark (Sean Connery) blackmails Marnie (Tippi Hedren) into marriage and rapes her during their honeymoon. In her memoir, Hedren writes that it was a widespread belief that, “the rape scene that had driven Hitchcock to make Marnie in the first place, that a man taking his frigid, unattainable bride by force was Hitchcock’s fantasy about me.”

Hitchcock’s need to control Hedren extended the instructions he gave on set: “Do not touch The Girl.” A simple conversation with a male cast or crew member would result in Hedren receiving an icy reaction from Hitchcock, or vulgar limerick recited. And when Hedren rejected Hitchock’s touch, he answered in two ways: forcing himself on her and then refusing to let her work.

Hedren writes:

“I’ve never gone into detail about this, and I never will. I’ll simply say that he suddenly grabbed me and put his hands on me. It was sexual, it was perverse, and it was ugly, and I couldn’t have been more shocked and more repulsed. The harder I fought him, the more aggressive he became. Then he started adding threats, as if he could do anything to me that was worse than what he was trying to do at that moment.”

Hitchcock followed through with his threat of trying to ruin her career by not casting her in any more of his films after Marnie, while at the same time not letting her out of her contract. A classic case of a rejected man: if he couldn’t have her, no one could.

More so than any other artist, Hitchcock isn’t only given possession of the themes and actors inside the frames of his own films, but also other peoples’ films, real life events, and actual people. I expect Hitchcock would be very happy about his ability to possess, even if it’s only grammatical. His birds. His suspense. His Marnie. But also: Hitchcockian suspense; a Hitchcockian conspiracy; Hitchcockian composition. Hitchcock blondes. It would make sense to refer to hair dyed an Yves Klein blue a Klein blue, but a Hitchcock blonde? Hmmm. No matter how hard Jackson Cassidy tries, trouble follows him wherever he goes. Born originally in London in 1872, Jackson came from a long line of shifters whom by the 1800s had started to fall on hard times. In and attempt to get a new start the family moved across the ocean to create a better life for themselves in America. They had bought into the dream that everything would be different for them over there; unfortunately things didn’t worked out in their favor. By the late 1890s; Jackson’s parents had died in a brutal accident with the people in their small town believing the family were monsters and attacked in a frenzy. In the ensuing chaos, Jackson managed to rescue his little sister Marnie and save himself in the process.  

The pair set out west and Jackson realized that the further out he went the more lawless the world seemed. You either had to harden yourself or get lost in a wild world. And so Jackson did. He started to learn a lot of survival tricks and tools in order to keep him and Marnie safe. Things were good for a while with the pair living in New Mexico until Marnie grew restless and wanted to go out on her own. They were all one another had but Jackson knew there was no way he could force his sister to stay and the pair said their goodbyes; vowing to stay in touch when they could.

Unfortunately, Marnie proved to be Jackson’s moral compass and once she was gone, the shifter let the devil on his shoulder take control. He started to live a more hedonistic lifestyle that consisted of drinking, drugs and stealing. Over time he became great at being what was considered an outlaw and by the economic collapse of the 1920s leading to the Great Depression, Jackson was already more than equipped to survive. He knew how to live with very little, but he also knew how to survive and steal from the rich. Being a thief was all he knew how to be and while the world had their eyes on bigger names, Jackson was able to slip in and take what he could while their back had been turned.

The life Jackson had created for himself could only sustain him for so long though and as time wore on; the shifter became more of a vagabond, moving from town to town until he would inevitably wear out his welcome; and he always did. Being alone for so long also started to wear on him as well and he began to withdraw from society. It left him starved for a connection and irritable as more time wore on. He couldn’t just walk into a place and steal like he used to do. He couldn’t live so recklessly, because now that he was past his first hundred years, it all started to wear thin. Having fun stopped being fun for him. It was when he needed someone the most is when help came in the form of Marnie

The pair had lost contact due to Jackson’s self imposed hiding and she had managed to get her older brother back together as much as he could be. There was just one problem though, Marnie wasn’t the only person looking for Jackson and when the shifter started to make his presence known, people began to look for him again. Old habits die hard and Jackson would go back into stealing and hedonistic and at times criminal  behavior, making Marnie realize that something had changed for the worse in her older brother. The pair had got into a fight at the wrong time when someone was looking for Jackson and Marnie would end up in the crossfire. His recklessness finally had a breaking point and the cost had been his sister; the only family he believed he had left.

Jackson had become a wreck and realized a prolonged life meant nothing if you had nothing to show for it. Feeling like there was nowhere for him to go made the shifter go harder into self loathing behavior, but he also tried to clean up his act publicly. He knew his outside behavior had caused pain and he didn’t want to do that anymore. He needed a new start and the perfect location had finally presented itself.

The island seemed like it had everything to help Jackson move on and find a new life for himself like his parents had done so many years ago. He had to try so that the loss of his  family wasn’t in vain. Jackson filled a backpack and moved, only to find out once he got there that he might not be as alone as he thought he was. Marnie has a daughter and Jackson is on the hunt to use the  island's resources to find out where she is and if he can try to fix things. He is still struggling to keep his vices in check and will try to take anything that isn’t nailed down, but he knows deep down this is his last shot and doing the right thing and he won’t go down without a fight.
