Yuuta doesn't exactly think he's damn smart and cunning when he gives the most general description of "his type". Part of him even thinks (not the one who came up with his answer in a few seconds) that this will be as good an answer as the question about "the perfect chest size" — the more vague the answer is, the harder it will be to attack him, and Yuuta is not exactly preparing for a new battle after Rika destroyed half of the forest, reacting very sharply to his fear and panic at losing sight of you, but you said that with another school 'should always be on guard', — especially him, — and Yuuta can only scroll these words in head, looking at the towering figure in fright.

Men are fine too.

Maybe Yuuta is not too smart or cunning, or too convincing, but when he spits out a few characteristics like "strong, caring, awe-inspiring and respectful" — at that moment it really seems to him that he is very good at cunning schemes; even when he sees an incomprehensible dullness in someone else's (frightening) eyes, he can't help but exhale "very attractive and extraordinary and breathtaking and unique and unforgettable and" — and a couple of nods are enough for him to bite the tip of tongue, forcing himself to be silent until he became completely ruddy and uncommunicative.

(you really were like that — but he's not sure if you're in that category. you were just something higher, otherwise, something else; after all, it's not that he was attracted to other guys or girls, so they're not really his type? does that make sense?)

Yuuta is absolutely not smart and not cunning when he is slapped on the shoulder (not as nice as you do during training), nodding reassuringly, saying something about how 'his heart is burning and pounding furiously, thinking about beloved' — of course, Aoi didn't cheat on Takada-chan, but he knows what it's like to be in love and see your love from afar.

(Of course, unlike Yuuta, Aoi does not hide his feelings, but Yuuta only looks away, feeling almost annoyed at the thought that it is not necessary to point it out so openly, he sometimes cannot even clearly talk to you.)

... He doesn't quite understand what Toge or Maki has to do with it, however — it's not that he thinks that they are not kind or caring, but, hm, this is not exactly the result that he expected. Maybe at some point Yuuta was close to asking for advice, but when he hears encouragement to confess and "let love blossom," Yuuta is not. Yuuta is not sure. Yuuta is not sure if he still understands what is happening, or what is happening, or why it feels like he is cheating on you in some sense, without even trying to correct that this, in fact, also applies to you, you are unique and magnificent, but it will be too obvious in his feelings — and it's too scary to argue with this guy, even with Rika.

When he is slapped on the back and advised to confess in order to ease his feelings — it can be mutual, he is a good guy, these feelings are certainly mutual, — Yuuta is ashamed and awkward and strange, and he is close to turning around and leaving, but most of all he wants the abyss under him to erupt and engulf him, if only in some way not to let things get even worse.

You appear as the main romantic lead in shojo manga, saving the gentle and fragile main character from danger, — Yuuta enjoys your protectiveness too much — behaving more than cautiously and directly about your rejection, blocking the way to Yuuta, referring to the fact that it's time for individual matches, but even when Aoi leaves, sending some signals for Yuuta (Yuuta is desperately trying not to look like an even bigger hopeless fool in front of you), deciding that you will not be happy with an incomprehensible situation, — but you are silent.

And Yuuta doesn't like this silence. But his "what happened?" remains unanswered, although not completely ignored — you just dismiss it as annoying, saying that everything is fine, further unnerving him. Crumpled apologies that he didn't want to meet with another school and it's 'not his fault' you meet with a momentary desire to pat him on the head, but stay, nodding instead.

Yuuta wants to cling to your clothes too much — as before — and demand that you say everything out loud, not continue to think about something to yourself. But he can't.

Yuuta is not sure. Maybe he just misunderstood you; maybe you just meant something else. Maybe he behaves too dramatically and emotionally — you didn't promise each other to be together forever or something like that, and even more so you don't have to put up or mess with him. Of course, you were very kind to him, even, ah, affectionate, — but it was more like taking care of a timid dog from the shelter, which huddles in a corner and howls when approached. It was still nice.

Yuuta thought it was gratitude and affection: what he feels for you, how faithfully he follows you or catches your every word, as if enchanted, constantly being ready to coo over you. You took care of him almost lovingly, and Yuuta only wanted to return the same; in fact, he looked more like he was wagging tail, licking your face and palms, whining when you turned away from him only to happily jump on you when you returned.

Almost pathetic in his attempts to get your attention.

And you usually returned them — kindness. You stroked him, supported him, gently massaged him, found supportive words; didn't hide him, but didn't let him cope with everything alone, as if he was really important to you. And Yuuta, even if it was self-confident and stupid, thought that he really meant something to you, and your care and attention is not just "care and attention", but– but care and attention — as to someone you wanted not only as a friend, but as someone close and dear to yourself. And Yuuta was still sure that you would support him and not turn away from one mistake, especially such a seemingly insignificant one — you didn't say "don't talk", you said to be careful, call if something happens and not disturb Rika unnecessarily.

Did he break his word?

... He has no idea why you keep leaving him on the sidelines, refusing extra late workouts and telling him that you are busy when he asks for free time, answering that you "have things to do". Of course, you could have someone, right after misunderstanding, a simple coincidence, — someone from the outside world, an ordinary civil, not connected with anything with this world — but Yuuta knows that this is not the case, and you do not go out to meet someone or do "special things", but only waste the time that has been released due to the lack of training.

(Yuuta knows.)

That maybe, maybe you're not doing this because you're tired of him or something like that, but maybe because you heard this conversation, Yuuta thinks only in another sleepless night — and that maybe, maybe, you also decided that Yuuta likes someone. Of course, it's unlikely — not that he's showing signs that he likes anyone other than you — but you could have misunderstood, right? If Yuuta were in your place, he would definitely misunderstand everything, and this, of course, does not mean that you could misunderstand, — you always understand and accept everything, — but there is a possibility, right?

(In the end, he doesn't even know what kind of phrase hooked you; even if Aoi said that "even if it's a guy", Yuuta is not sure if you can be attributed to a "guy" or a "girl"; whether it is possible to describe his type by some gender at all, if he had experience only puppy love (what an irony) and you are now, and he didn't have any romantic or sexual experience anymore)

("you" is his type if it makes any sense — the way you behave, how you represent yourself, what you say, how you treat, your clothes, your perfume...)

He should have interrupted then and said that it was not so instead of huddling and being shy. If you really were there, you would have been much more impressed by this behavior — maybe he should even have said no, he likes you, he doesn't want to discuss others. If Yuuta hadn't been so timid, he would have straightened up and definitely, definitely said that it was about you.

... If he had known that you would continue to treat him politely almost a month after that conversation, he would definitely have done so, even being timid, just so that in the future you would not tell him that you were busy or unavailable — not so that it would look like you were ignoring him, you behaved the same way with everyone others... but that was the problem. You never treated him as "another commodity," it was always deeper. Always.

You've always treated him differently. Because he was different for you — and you were different for him. Maybe you were not "created" for each other, but you were special for each other — and this, this is not a delusion or nonsense, this is a fact, you are something more than just comrades,

and Yuuta cannot hide disappointment when you send him to others for training again, in the same way just like Maki tells him to think about what he wants when knocks him down again (too often.)

What does he want? Of course, so that you start talking to him again — not in the sense that you are not talking to him now, that you are not training now, that you are not going on missions now or that you are not sitting next to him now, but it was different before; he misses your touch, or whispers, or teases, or when you snuggled too close to him, making him almost choke with adoration and shyness. But you've never done anything that was unpleasant, and Yuuta really thought you both had all the time in the world, even knowing that it wasn't.

What does he want?

He wants you to just come up and say that you are waiting for him at tonight's training session. Maybe you are not waiting for him, but just waiting — or that you will be late today and he may find you there. It would be enough for him just to be alone with you. Even if he winces, Maki is right.

... He can't help but dream that you just go back to the time before all this, when you picked him up from training. You sometimes went out into the outside world not only for the sake of defeating curses — almost kidnapped him from the "tower", offering to keep you company; it was always nice to keep you and know that you would take him where he needed to go. You always knew where to go, even when he felt lost.

Maybe it's actually his time to become like that for you.

When Yuuta wakes up from a surface nap with the realization of the feeling of someone else's jacket on his shoulders, he knows whose it is
