❝   falling in love really isn't for the weak... they should put one of those warning labels on it.    ❞    he chuckles, a bit sarcastic.    ❝   like- don't try this at home    ❞    ricky shakes his head before just turning to smile at the girl a bit hopefully. the movie they're watched with the substitute teacher still plays, and he has yet to determine what this romance on screen has to do with ap bio... maybe they can at least talk a little- as long as they're quiet. ricky likes his new school well enough, including his lab partner in the seemingly perfect, popular, barbie roberts. she really is sweet, and smart, way smarter than he'd ever be. but even as he is sort of making friends, it still sucks being away from nini, and missing her hurts the worst...    ❝   i uh- you and ken seem really sweet though. it kind of reminds me of being back home with my girl.    ❞

    ❝    love is pretty great- i think so too. it's just scary sometimes    ❞     he chuckles. ricky's not good with being alone, and maybe it's obvious, but that's become even harder since moving like this.    ❝    it feels better- being happy with someone else i think...    ❞     and he loves how happy she seems to be, talking about her boyfriend. it feels a lot like how she feels about nini. it's nice.    ❝    yeah- it's pretty rough.    ❞     he chuckles, half smile on his face.    ❝    she's back in utah... and i guess i kinda still would call that home, honestly? i don't know. i miss her a lot. it's weird being apart when we've known each other since we were kids.    ❞     

barbie    laughs    softly,    eyes    lingering    on    the    movie    playing    on    the    screen.    she    was    almost    certain    that    the    school    had    hired    someone    with    no    ap    bio    experience    to    sub    in    for    this    class    and    it    was    a    bit    annoying    that    the    lesson    for    the    week    was    being    interrupted    with    a    movie.    one    that,    admittedly,    barbie    had    been    up    for    the    lead    role    in.    the    actress    who'd    been    cast    was    good,    of    course,    but    barbie    had    wanted    that    role    so    bad.    ❝    no,    it's    not,    but    isn't    it    great?    ❞    she    asks,    lifting    an    eyebrow    as    she    glances    over    at    ricky.    he    was    pretty    new    and    they'd    been    paired    up    as    lab    partners    after    her    old    lab    partner    had    an    unfortunate    incident    with    some    sulfuric    acid.    ❝    oh,    yeah,    ken    is    the    greatest!    ❞    enthusiasm    seeps    into    her    voice    at    the    mention    of    her    boyfriend.    they'd    been    together    for    fifty    years,    it    felt    like.    ❝    your    girlfriend    is    back    home?    or,    wherever    home    used    to    be    for    you?    that    must    suck.    ❞
