Phantom Troupe / Thoughts on HWR Reader.

Note: i wanted to do something similar to the voice lines genshin characters have about one another but with some phantom troupe members ... maybe i’ll do a collect of HWR reader’s thoughts on each of them?? she’d definitely have a paragraph about hisoka. reader is described with she/her pronouns here !

Chrollo

To put my thoughts about [First] into words, where would I begin...? The way she carries herself demands attention. She tends to draw attention wherever she goes. Ah, no, this is of no issue to me. What good is possessing a jewel if it’s not on display for others to both admire and envy? While her looks are undeniably an appeal, it’s her brain I enjoy the most. I thought our viewpoints mostly would align due to our similar occupation, yet there’s a great deal we disagree on. Hours can escape us once we get started on a particular topic. 

Phinks

You’re asking me about [First]? Ahem, well, she’s fine. Can hold her own. Kinda reminds me of the characters in those old timey movies who talk all properly ‘n shit. It’s cute... that is to say, in a professional capacity, naturally. Strictly professional. Ah, but if you ever need to learn how to do some weird rich people garbage, she’s the one to ask. Y’know, the different types of spoons and forks.  

Feitan

Cuts too clean. Ends fight too fast. No fun. Torturing people, though... not bad. 

Machi

Didn’t know what a rich girl wanted with the Spider at the first, but if the boss picked her, he must have his reasons. Paku took to her quickly, so by extension I... yeah. She’s alright. 

Shalnark

While you can count on her in a fight, in a casual environment, she’s surprisingly dense. We keep a tally of how many times Phinks has mustered the courage to ask her out only for her to not realize it, let me check... aha! It’s up to four. Hoping to hit five before the year ends. Franklin owes me a favor if we reach it. Also, the go-to pick for trivia night. A very well mannered individual. My initial impression stopped there for some time. For her first job with the Spiders, the boss paired her up with me. In retrospect, I suppose he foresaw something I did not. We formed a mutual bond and have frequently stayed in touch sense. How do I say this... she’s endearing, in a sense. Once you know her tells, it’s quite easy to get a read on her. 

Shizuku

I finally remembered her name. What else? Uh... it’s fun to watch her fight. I wish they’d last longer. By the time she starts to really put in effort, the opponent is dead... I want to see more. 

Uvogin

A bit of a stick-in-the-mud, if you ask me. The most I’d ever seen her drink was when she lost a bet and had to take a sip of beer. The face she made... you’d think she’d been stabbed in the gut. Refuses to eat fast food too. Something about it ‘impacting the release of glucose in the blood system,’ or whatever. Can rip flesh and bones to smithereens, though. Guess that’s all that matters. 

Nobunaga

An oddball, that one’s fighting style is. I can never figure it out. Rather than using one style with a sword, she switches between multiple... must be a nightmare for anyone she’s seriously up against. Her movements almost looks weightless. Seriously, what do they teach overseas? Maybe I’ll take a pilgrimage to her home country and give it a shot myself. 

Franklin

[First] didn’t speak much for the longest time. At first, I wondered if she felt superior to us due to her background. I didn’t care for her until she proved joining the Spider’s was more than a whim. 

Hisoka

Ah, yes, what a lovely specimen that one is ♥ the way she glares at me yet tries to act professional excites me. I wonder what it would take to set her off. More importantly, though... killing her would ensure Chrollo’s wrath. He’d have no qualms fighting me then. 

Bonolenov

The both of us are enthusiasts when it comes to dance. I taught her some of the staples from the Gyudondond Tribe, while she trained me in the styles popular in her homeland. While watching her fight, I noticed her movements were similar to what she’s taught me. In that regard, I suppose we’re similar; we both incorporate dance during combat.

   He  WON’T  bite  at  the  taunts  that  Hisoka  tosses  towards  him.  For  better  or  worse  ,  he  is  at  least  accustomed  to  rejecting  such  taunts  and  means  of  getting  his  attention.  They  were  little  more  than  the  sounds  of  gnats  ;  annoying  but  ignorable.  Or  they  would  be  ordinarily.  But  now  anger  rages  in  his  chest  with  all  the  fury  of  Lucifer  and  his  army  against  God.  It  is  STRANGE  to  feel  so  intensely.  But  he  cannot  afford  to  let  the  cacophony  of  anger  playing  in  his  chest  distract  his  mind.  So  he  stares  at  Hisoka  with  thin-lipped  expression.  He  wants  to  retort  -  but  refrains.  Right  now  he  knows  where  Hisoka  IS  and  he  has  no  intentions  of  a  sharp  retort  encouraging  Hisoka’s  actions.

   He  can  use  this.  Hisoka  is  here.  Hisoka  is  focused  on  him  right  now.  And  Chrollo  can  potentially  offer  this  flamboyant  magician  a  false  picture  of  the  state  of  himself  even  while  spilling  truths  from  his  lips.  A  false  picture  or  at  least  skewed  to  some  extent  ;  and  how  would  he  know  ?  Chrollo  rarely  let  his  emotions  show  ,  rarely  was  moved  by  them.  Hisoka  has  NO  BASIS  to  understand  how  Chrollo  would  function  when  something  managed  to  evoke  emotions.  Even  the  emotionally  cold  could  fall.  Hisoka  wouldn’t  know  what  point  EXACTLY  Chrollo’s  was.  He  doubted  he  would  entirely  fool  Hisoka.  But  even  the  slightest  skewed  image  was  advantageous.  

   It’d  also  be  nice  to  finally  have  an  outlet  for  it.  How  ironic  that  Hisoka’s  very  question  would  help  clear  away  the  creeping  mist  of  anger.  (  Was  Hisoka  as  free  from  the  web  as  he  thought  he  was  ,  when  temptation  of  opportunity  lured  the  beast  ?  )

   “  It  leaves  a  bitter  taste  in  the  mouth  with  each  sip.  “  He  leans  forward  slightly  ,  eyes  widening  a  fraction.  “  I  have  some  nasty  abilities  I  would  love  to  use  on  you.  “  Truth.  But  he  wouldn’t.  No  wasting  time  this  time.  No  showing  off.  No  fun.  His  lips  twist  slightly.  “  I  hate  each  sip  and  how  it  burns  ,  but  it’s  quite  inspirational  for  what  I  want  to  do  with  your  carcass.  “  Not  corpse  ,  but  carcass  -  a  word  reserved  for  butchered  livestock.  Truth.  Normally  he  lets  Feitan  come  up  with  these  matters.  It  seemed  Hisoka  was  bringing  a  sinister  inspiration  to  the  spider  head  to  involve  his  personal  touch.  He’d  lost  legs  before  ;  this  was  different.  “  It  itches  and  nothing  save  ripping  your  head  off  and  feasting  around  it  will  satisfy  it.  Although  I  doubt  even  that  alone  will  soothe  it.  “

   Chrollo  leans  back  now  ,  keeps  the  tension  in  his  shoulders  even  when  the  soothing  winds  of  calm  blow  away  the  black  fumes  of  anger  in  his  mind.  Fire  is  the  best  way  to  beat  fire.  Controlled  burns.  That  was  what  this  was  ,  a  controlled  burn.  A  controlled  outlet  of  the  anger  that  Chrollo  has  not  even  divulged  to  his  troupe  beyond  letting  them  sense  his  bloodlust.   Whether  Hisoka  had  meant  for  that  or  not  was  irrelevant.  Chrollo  will  give  no  sign  one  way  or  another  if  this  has  HELPED  him  or  WORSENED  his  rage. Acting  was  something  he  was  good  at  ,  like  the  devil  shifting  skins.

   His  lips  curve  ,  and  he  lets  bloodlust  bleed  thicker  into  the  air.  Are  you  excited  Hisoka  ?  The  spider  won’t  fall  for  temptation  ,  but  will  the  tiger ?   “  You  have  my  full  attention  finally  ,  Hisoka.  I’ll  make  sure  to  kill  you  even  better  this  time.  “

The doorbell rang like a death knell. For the past few days, you had been on the tip of the sword. You knew Kurapika had been hunting the troupe, which put both you and him in danger. His work kept him far away from you, but at this point, any mistake could be fatal for both.

You peeped through the eye-hole. Gaze meeting a lock of golden hair. Kurapika. You could recognize that hair from a mile. Fingers fumbling with the doorknob, you opened the door harshly.

A disoriented Kurapika met your eyes. Eyebags from being forced to work until exhaustion, yet with a gentle smile that warmed your heart.

"Welcome home," you said as softly as possible, eyes moist from overwhelming emotions.

He stepped in from the entrance, arms snaking around your waist, leaning under your touch and nuzzling his nose in your hair. His cologne smelled subtle, like the scent of night blooms tenderly kissing the air.

"I missed you," he whispered in a dulcet tone that pulled your heartstrings.

Your arms wrapped around his ribs, forced to pull back as a low growl of pain escaped his throat.

"You are hurt," you said tucking his hair behind his ear.

"I am fine, love," he said reassuringly.

"Can I see it?" your voice trembled at the thought of him being hurt, "sit down first, you are barely standing."

He sighed, removing his shoes and walking into the house. He collapsed on the couch, breathing erratic and barely any strength.

After giving him a glass of water you helped him out of his socks, tie, belt and coat.

Your fingers shakily unbuttoned his shirt, under some other circumstances it would have been attractive, you lowered your gaze trying to hide the blush that formed on your face.

Kurapika slightly chuckled at that, but your eyes were fixated on the poorly wrapped gauze around his rib.

"Who did this?"

"Melody."

"Melody hurt you?" You gaped in shock.

"No silly, Melody dressed the wound up, we did not have any medical supplies during the mission," he paused, his eyes not leaving yours, "Feitan did it."

You nodded in understanding, slowly getting up and bringing the medical kit. You gently untied the gauze, your cold hands tingling against his flushed skin.

The gash ran from his upper rib to almost near his diaphragm. You cleaned the wound and secured it so that water cannot enter the wound.

"I will run a bath for you, make sure not to get water on the wound."

He shakily stood up, you sighed and helped him to the washroom.

You placed a stool under the hand shower, wrapping a towel around the gauze and giving him another so he could cover himself up while you turned around.

Your hands brushed through his hair, taking a pump of his shampoo your fingers massaged through his scalp.

A sound of satisfaction left his throat, "this is nice."

"Close your eyes before they actually turn red," you said washing his hair.

"Ha-ha very funny."

"Wet the towel and take a dry bath, don't risk the wound getting infected."

You waited for a while, cutting up some fruits for him. He came back dressed in sweats and a loose black teeshirt.

"Sit," you said, drying the excess water off his beautiful hair and presenting him with the fruit salad.

"Eat up, if you feel more hungry I will make something else."

He smiled cupping your face and leaning down to plant a soft kiss on your lips.

"Thank you."

"For what?" You beamed, arms encircled around his neck, "you are the one who is neglecting their health, not me."

His warm lips collided with your nose, then cheeks, then forehead, leaving jittery butterfly kisses all over your face, "Thank you, for being the one person I can come back to, angel."
