"No, I understand your worries," she said into the receiver of the phone as she balanced her iced coffee and the doughnut she'd purchased in her hands. "But I can assure you that communication has been going well and we're successfully conducting ourselves." Marigold was used to easing the worries of her clients. There was always one who was unsure of their proceedings. Usually, they were the ones who didn't want to get divorced in the first place. She felt for them.
As she exited the cafe, she nodded. "I understand, but I need you to trust that I will let you know if the circumstances change," she assured the woman on the other end of the line. "Yes, I know but -" Marigold was so engrossed with her phone call that she hadn't noticed the person walking her way. She took a couple more steps before colliding with them, her iced coffee cup crumpling against the other's shirt. She cursed under her breath. "Can I call you back? Thanks." She hung up her phone and frowned. "White vinegar should be able to get that out," she tried.

She raised a brow, wondering what he might have done to be told he wasn't a people person. "Well, we can't all be people persons. Someone has to be around to not be." At least, she thought so anyway. She sighed dramatically. "Dammit. Maybe my soulmate is a cat."
“I’m probably not. I’m not much of a people person either, or so I’ve been told.” Though he’d faired well at holding some kind of conversation with her. With a smile full of teasing, he gave a small nod. “Hmm, and to think you’ve wasted all this time talking to me. They’re probably long gone by now.”

@ofwishfulthinking (Malachi)
Though she wasn't used to having a sibling quite yet, it didn't mean Marigold didn't appreciate it. When moving to a new town, she had thought she wouldn't have a support system here. It hadn't stopped her from moving, little would stop her from achieving her goals, but it had been a storm cloud hovering overhead. She thought she would be able to push past it. One simple DNA test later, she had a brother who she hadn't known about and thus, someone in town she had a built-in connection with.
She had offered to bring dinner over tonight, but had lost track of time. As usual, her time in the office had run a bit long and she didn't have time to do so. Instead of cancelling, however, she stopped in at the supermarket for a rotisserie chicken along with potato salad and pasta salad. It wasn't the most extravagant meal, but it was one nonetheless. She knocked lightly on his door. "Mal? I have the food. I might have forgotten to cook, but you won't be going hungry!"

if you’re hearing HOLD ME LIKE A GRUDGE by FALL OUT BOY playing, you have to know MARIGOLD REED (SHE/HER; CIS WOMAN) is near by! the 32 year old DIVORCE ATTORNEY has been in denver for, like, THREE YEARS. they’re known to be quite SELF SERVING, but being DETERMINED seems to balance that out. or maybe it’s the fact that they resemble ALISHA WAINWRIGHT. personally, i’d love to know more about them seeing as how they’ve got those AN OLD BRIEFCASE YOU REFUSE TO PART WITH, BEING MARRIED TO YOUR JOB, A DESIRE TO KNOW WHO YOU REALLY ARE vibes. and maybe i’ll get my chance if i hang out around the WASHINGTON PARK long enough!
Marigold was raised by a single mother. Well... mostly. Though her dad wasn't around, her mom was never single for long. There was a boyfriend here, a fiance there. She married when Marigold was three, again when she was eight, twelve, sixteen. None of them lasted long and she watched her mom go through drawn out court battles. It led to her wanting to be a divorce attorney to make things run more smoothly in these kind of situations.
As far as romantic relationships go, she's avoided them herself. They seem like more trouble than they're worth and she hasn't met a person who makes it seem worth it. (Yet?)
When she was younger, her mom raised her to not let anything stand in her way if there was something she wanted. She took that seriously, developing an attitude of doing whatever it took to get to the top.
At the moment, she's simply a junior associate at her firm, but she's not going to be there for long if she has anything to say about it.
Recently, she did a DNA test, trying to figure out more about her biological father and found out she had a half sibling, Malachi Dubois, living in Denver. She's reached out to him and doesn't know if it's going to go anywhere but she's hoping it will because she's always wanted a sibling or two.
WANTED CONNECTIONS:
you know how there are hallmark movies and romcoms where people are all career driven and fall in love with someone? something like that
friends
clients, possibly? :-)

🙊💬 + Mal (for marigold)
"I never thought about what it would be like to have a brother. I thought about what it would be like to have a sister, an older sister to do my hair and makeup. Never a brother. Finding out that I had one was probably the biggest shock of my life, but I think that I should have expected it. It wasn't like I knew anything about my dad. Malachi is... he isn't what I expected. I'll say that. He can be closed off at times, but I think we all can. And he has his reasons. I'm basically a stranger. But the fact that eh wants to help me with my apartment... I don't know. It makes me feel like he cares and I think that, maybe one day, we can have that TV sibling relationship. Which I realize is very immature to want, but I'm allowed to have my pipe dreams, thank you."

Pretending to be engaged? There were a lot of times that Marigold didn't understand her friend and this was one of them. She raised an eyebrow. "Okay, I don't have the most experience in relationships." That was an understatement that she was certain that Charlie was aware of. "How do you expect me to come up with the best proposal story? I'm all the way on the way on the other end of the spectrum here," she pointed out as she looked over the menu. She set it down and looked at Charlie. "Plus, we'd need a backstory! I mean, how long have we been together? What are our plans for the future? I'm already stressed and this isn't real!"
Open starter @chqstarter Location: idk any restaurant your choice
Charlie had a bad habit of getting bored if things weren't interesting. And when she got bored she tended to start thinking of trouble to make things exciting. Which was why she was sitting at the restaurant table, gears visibly turning in her head. "This place is too boring. You can see it in the waitresses faces how mundane it all is." She sighed as she slipped a french fry into her mouth. "Do you want to pretend to get engaged to get a free meal? Bonus points if I turn you down and make a scene."

14 ( phoenix & caress ) & 22 ( marigold & ali )
Does your muse have a “victory song” and if so, what is it?
Phoenix:
Phoenix's is obviously "We are the Champions" by Queen. He is basic, but he is free... And in case you were wondering, yes, he does want to be Freddie Mercury a little bit.
Caress:
Probably "Wings" by Little Mix. If something goes her way, the odds of you finding her dancing around to this song.
What is your muse most thankful for?
Marigold:
Marigold is most thankful for her determination. She thinks that it's the one thing that keeps her going and got here where she is today.
Ali:
It's his mom. Who knows what he's gonna do if her sickness gets worse? 🙈

36 ( all / your choice ) !
What simple task is your muse surprisingly bad at?
Phoenix:
When it comes to simple tasks, there are a few Phoenix isn't the best at. Cooking is the first one. He can barely boil water. His mom would teach him and yet, he has no desire to learn. Another one he's bad at is just following the rules.
Marigold:
For the most part, Marigold can take care of herself, but establishing a work/life balance is new impossible for her. She struggles with it daily.
Caress:
Addressing her feelings... girl, just tell people how you feel about them and then you won't find yourself in the same mess over and over. Not everything is going to go like one of your romance novels.
Ali:
SOCIALIZING. Talking to people is always an ordeal for him. He doesn't know what to say and he doesn't know how to react properly. Save him.

@audrey-dev
As she set out the wine and messy attempt at a charcuterie board, Marigold did one final scan of her house to make certain it was neat enough to have guests over. It was neat enough. She didn't break away from work often enough to keep up a consistent cleaning schedule. She really needed to work on that, but she would have to work up to it... the work/life balance she had at the moment wasn't entirely advisable.
At least she'd made the point to make the evening a work-free one. When she heard the knock at her door, she set down the glasses and went straight over. Cracking it open, she looked over at Audrey. "Hey! I have wine and cheese. Work stories galore and my phone is off for the night. I am all yours."

Okay, so he could see right through her. There were times she thought the two of them were too similar and this was one of them. She waved his comment off, letting out a small laugh. "Not to sound like I'm using my legal prowess for undue matters, but I'm not at liberty to discuss that," she joked with a shake of her head. Meant to be working on something and actually working on it were two different creatures altogether. "I like that. My true self. That's going to be my new excuse, so thank you."
"Yeah, and that's the exact same excuse I use whenever someone accuses me of working too much. Don't try to use it on me, love. I'm immune to it." He could not help but continue with his teasing, a hearty laugh bubbling out of his lips as he shook his head. "The accusations are true though, are they not?" It was true, and he knew it. They both worked too much, and that was a problem. But then again, that's exactly why the two of them had managed to maintain this friendship of theirs. They were oth so busy, and understood each other's need to work that they did not hold it against each other when plans were postponed, or cancelled. Jake was grateful to have someone like that in his life. "It's only a flaw if we're meant to be working on it. But since we're not going to be working on it, I wouldn't consider it a flaw at all. We're just being our true selves, and our true selves are absolute workaholics. There's no other explanation to that."

"Work," she said with a shrug. Wasn't that what kept most people busy? She thought so. It wasn't like Marigold had much of a social life outside of work. That was her choice, really! It didn't mean she didn't crave that sort of thing though. "I'm a divorce attorney, so I'm working all the time."
"So what is it that you do that has you so busy?" Nate didn't mean to pry, he hoped she would view it as friendly conversation instead. He was weary that she looked kind of uncomfortable, at least to him.

Marigold began to look around the gift shop, seeing if something would pop out to her. Was that the way that it worked? She flipped through the stack of prints then turned to Sebastian. "If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them. Like I said, I don't know much about art."
"The world is certainly your oyster. That can certainly be paralyzing in its own way but I think you should pick something that speaks to you, even if you don't believe it to be a permanent staple."

"Do you like your job out here?" While she was aware not everyone was as... obsessed might be the proper word, with their job as she was, a nice job was a good place to aim for! She smiled a little. "For you, I would make time."
“Since you’re saying that about your move, I’ll bet on myself saying that too.” Carter mused with a small grin. It’d been good to hear in person that Marigold was doing so well. “Yeah, definitely. I’d like that. And you know I’m honored if you have some time, since I’m sure your’e busy.”

She laughed. "I don't know! I've heard some people assign some weird meanings to pictures of things!" She supposed it was up to the artist, but still! "I will never understand art as a whole. I'm too... practical, I think is the word."
Dov supposed she was right. One's opinion or interpretation technically couldn't be wrong, but as someone who liked to be right, the answer wasn't as satisfying as he hoped it would be. "Maybe I need to get into photography. I think that's easier to tell what it's about."

There was too much going on in her life at the moment to cook dinner. Was that a bad thing? No, Marigold was busy with her work! It was a good thing to have a career that she could invest her time in. Still, there were times that she wasn't the biggest fan - today being one of them. She stepped into the crowded diner and looked around.
She spotted an open spot and smiled slightly. "Is it okay if I sit here?"
Location: Night and Dine

Halona had been chilling at the Night and Dine, enjoying her usual fries and chocolate shake. It was a part of her Sunday routine that gave her peace of mind. She had been doing this since her freshman year in high school so she always relished in the old diner.
A familiar face slid her booth "What's up? Wanna fry?" She offered before stuffing a few in her mouth
