At some point down their time line, they are bound to have a few flings with each other (GX’s time period onwards). But as we all know, it never becomes anything else than just a few nightstands. When things seemed to be flourishing between them, Kaiba loses his company and he subsequently moves out of Japan.

Yugi was the only person, Kaiba seeked out to bid his farewells. He was also the only one who, got to learn first-hand about his old surname (the one he picked up after dropping the Kaiba name). They never more see each other, they move on with their lives.

However, Yugi is left pondering on this little affair with Kaiba. More precisely, whether or not he developed any real feelings for him. The answer is: yes he did. And thankfully, he only got to realise this after his departure. Because he knows, what would have most likely happened if the other had caught wind of it.

// TBH the fandom loves to shit on Yugi’s character, and it shows, whenever he is reduced to just being a baby where he is heavily dependable on Atem for everything.

There is a huge difference between that, and someone who was socially awkward and dealt with some serious self-worth issues. Atem and Yugi compliment each other, one isn’t better than the other, and throughout DM they needed one another. So they could better understand themselves.

I think of the term symbiosis, as a possible term to describe their dynamic.
