Waiting for your bus, you stretch your arms over your head groaning after your 9-hour shift.

Finally being released from stocking shelves and ringing up high school students, your eyes shifted to the night sky.

Much like every other night, you clock out around 23:40 leaving you little to no free time once you get home. Maybe you take Beomgyu’s advice and watch some TLC-

Looking back at the night sky, you remember the invitation your friends and beomgyu gave you to watch the meteor shower with them.

Although you were feeling slightly better after the breakup, being out gave you anxiety. And the thought of possibly being seen by him or one of his friends made your hands sweat

Yet you were over him, why’d he still make you sweat?

It’s true the break up wasn’t exactly on both ends but there’s not much you can do when your partner of 3 years proclaimed his love for another. But 3 years…

You had your life already sorted with him, got married at the 5-year mark, buy a house together, have two kids- one boy and one girl. Adopted a dog

Grow old and wrinkly together….

Yet now here you were, working a shitty convenience store job, barely being able to pay your rent, moping around in your dingy apartment because the love of your life left you. And your friends worry dearly for you

Rocking on your heels you thought up the pros and cons of the possibility of attending this hangout.

Feeling the pros only slightly weighing out the cons you pulled out your phone “It could be fun…” you muttered quietly checking the time

Realizing you still had time, you took a deep breath and walked towards the forest entrance.

Feeling a rush of emotions a small smile found its way onto your face as you stepped out of your comfort zone. Nothing can go wrong

“why would I ever listen to my brother!” You yelled walking by the same tree you feel like you passed a few steps ago

“He wants me to ‘stop moping’, well look where that got me!!” At this point, you seem to have lost your sense of direction in this forest

Pulling out your phone, you saw there was little to no signal here

*12:01 am*

You sigh pocketing your phone. “This was so stupid”

You pulled your jacket closer to you and turned back around “Why would going to a forest in the middle of the night be a good idea”

“Only Beomgyu would make such an irresponsible decision”

You huffed feeling anger build up just imagining your brother’s stupidity cute grin “he’s so ignorant and careless”

“Makes me just wanna- ugh!” you groaned throwing your head back in annoyance

“I used to be like that….”

“What happened to me,” the night sky was decorated with delicate stars that twinkled ever so slightly. You clutched her heart remembering the open wounds.

You were loud and playful, and much like your brother, you brought a smile to the room… brought a smile to him…

Although he was your polar opposite, he was also your other half. Just watching you ramble about whatever crossed your mind, he would just smile and enjoy the way your eyes lit up.- Or when he held you; making you feel so secure and safe, like nothing in this world could ever get between them.

Yet something did

Your once perfect future - ripped from your hands because he never saw a house, never saw two kids and dog… never saw you

Your hands shook with fury, now looking up at the stars -stars he once compared your eyes to

“I HATE YOU CHOI SOOBIN!!” You were broken, there was never love, there couldn’t be because why would he just leave you that?

The meteor shower begins wiping ‘shooting stars’ across the sky. Your eyes set on the biggest and brightest meteorite; you closed your eyes as warm tears rolled down your wet cheeks.

“You hear that universe- NOT A SINGLE BEING ON EARTH!!”

With that proclamation, you open your eyes finding your star immediately only something was off.

Has it always been that big?….

Your heart jumped out of your chest realizing that this meteorite was coming straight for Earth, in fact for you

Or rather near you

Taking cover behind a large boulder you hear and feel the impact of the meteorite hitting the ground 50ish feet away from you

It sounded like a silent explosion along with a terrible car accident, and a strong gust of wind blew through the trees as well the vibrations made your head spin

Although the impact aftershocks caused you some discomfort you were fine and thanked your lucky stars

(But maybe not the star that tried killing you just now)

Lucky the meteor had seemed to land in the quarry nearby

‘BEOMGYU!’ You thought quickly standing up ignoring the vertigo you might’ve just developed

Running/stumbling through the trees you reached the cliff of the quarry panting

Your eyes frantically scanned the area for any sign of your brother and your friends

“Beomgyu! Jinsol!! Taehyun!! Tsuki!” You shouted as your voice rang through the quarry and also your ears

Not finding anything you pulled out your phone only to remember the signal wasn’t great out here and something seemed to be messing with your phone in general as the screen flickered heavily

You tapped your phone desperately not wanting your phone to give out “Come on I don’t have time for this-“

While you messed with your cellular device a strange ringing echoed through the quarry hitting your eardrums

Capturing your attention your eyes drifted to the center of the quarry seeing something irregular.

It was a saucer-shaped vessel sitting on the shore of the medium-sized lake of the quarry

Not knowing what it was you concluded that the strange sound was definitely coming from the unidentified object. Further making the pit in your stomach grows exponentially.

As you stood frozen in curiosity the bushes next to you rustled sending a wave of chills through your body.

“B-Beomgyu” you squeak out almost like a child calling for their parents after waking up from a nightmare

You slowly turned your head seeing a pair of glowing blue eyes looking back at you.

“Is that you?” You asked just when the figure owning the pair of eyes seemingly stood up revealing the true size of the being.

Felipe is looking forward to summer vacation, binge-watching media at home far away from the bullies that torture him for being fat. Until his mom informs him that his neighbor and crush Caio, will be sharing his room for the next 15 days.

I went into this book expecting rom-com room-sharing antics and teenage angst. What I got was way better. This was a really beautiful, honest conversation about body insecurities, bullying, and opening up to others. While those seem like heavy topics, this book is really like a big warm hug, to borrow from another reviewer's words. Felipe is super sweet and I want to cheer for him, and bonus points for a supportive single Cool Mom.

1.) What is Magnifico and Amaya going to be like in your story?

I'm still trying to figure out what their personalities would be like, since it KEEPS CHANGING WHENEVER I FINALLY DECIDE ON WHAT THEY WOULD BE LIKE IT'S LIKE THESE TWO DOESN'T WANT TO BE WRITTEN WHAT KIND OF SORCERY IS THIS--

I mean, I have an IDEA on how I want them to be like, but for some reason, I don't know how to put it to words.

I HAVE THE PUZZLE PIECES I JUST GOTTA FIGURE OUT HOW TO MAKE IT FIT TRUST ME.

But they're definitely this AU's main antagonists.

2.) Why is Orion helping Asha? Did she wish on him?

They both have the same goal of taking down the royal couple, Orion mainly wants to prevent them from shooting down and capturing stars and turning them into [redacted]. Asha wants to retrieve the wishes that Magnifico has collected from the citizens of Rosas and return it back to them and help them achieve their dreams without relying on magic to make it come true.

Well, That's their main motivations at least. (unless i change my mind and change their main motivations or something-)

3.) What's her owl's name? (I saw you mention something about an owl sooooooo)

Chará. It means Joy in Greek! Asha named her that because Chará always brings her joy whenever she feels down.

4.) Some Orion backstory dump??

I'll tell you some things that happened there instead :)

His first wishmaker died

He manifested an ability to tell when someone is lying after someone deceived him and it led to people getting hurt and maybe killed

He abandons his first name due to the events that happened there, feeling like he doesn't deserve it

He harbors hate for Magnifico and Amaya due to events that happened there

5.) What does Asha think about Orion? Same with him?

They were totally not entirely trusting of each other at first. Especially Orion, with Asha being the Royal couple's ward he was waiting for the other shoe drop and for her to reveal that she was working for Magnifico the whole time and now he's gonna end up as the rest of them-

*Ahem*

ANYWAYS-

Asha, while sort of cautious of Orion at first, definitely noticed that he acts like he's not bothered by the fact that she's the royal couple's ward but she knows that Orion always casts suspicious glances towards her whenever he thinks that she wouldn't notice.

She tries her best to not make him uncomfortable because of that, and Orion notices and secretly appreciates it.

After some misunderstandings, getting to know each other and some near death experiences they'd have some sort of ride or die relationship with each other.

6.) Does Asha have any friends, or is she alone?

She only had Chará as her friend after finding her injured and tended to her until she got better, she pleaded for Amaya to let her keep the owl and Amaya reluctantly agreed, as long as Asha takes full responsibility for the owl herself.

As the story goes on though she eventually befriends Flazino first (due to some Orion shenanigans and then Flazino almost getting kidnapped and Orion kidnaps him before he gets kidnapped) and then eventually working their way to befriending the seven teens due to Flazino being acquaintances with them.

I actually have some of Flazino's interactions with Asha and Orion written in my notes here:

Flazino tied in a chair, Eugene style: What the- where am I?!

Orion: You have been kidnapped for your own protection! Your boss is evil by the way.

Flazino: No shit- WHAT?!

Orion: WHY DIDN'T YOU GO TO ME? I COULD'VE HEALED YOUR INJURY!

Flazino: I'M SORRY, WAS IT 'OUR' STAB WOUND? MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!

Asha: Flazino, do you know where Orion is?

7.) Does Asha know magic?

She does, but she struggles with it. Magnifico is often disappointed with her for not being able to keep up with him.

Magnifico just has a natural talent for magic and he sucks at teaching other people so she shouldn't be upset. nope she beats herself for not being better

Her strength actually lies in potionmaking, she takes after Amaya more than Maggy. she was first (and still is) Amaya's apprentice in Alchemy before she is Magnifico's student in sorcery.

But it doesn't mean she didn't learn a few magic tricks though.

8.) How do Maggy and Amaya treat Asha? Is it good? Is it bad??

Maggy isn't really fond of Asha. He took her on as his student due to Amaya's request as she wants Asha to have some experience with it. But Asha can't keep up with him in sorcery as he has a natural talent with magic and she...just doesn't. He looks down on her for it as a result.

Well, at least she's useful when it comes to castle duties like managing the palace budget and overseeing trade. (Hey idk what a princesses's job is inside a castle, do they just sit around inside or...?)

Amaya took on Asha as her little apprentice when the girl was young, she saw the kid wander inside her study and create a potion without blowing something up on the first attempt and figured she has potential and it might be good to have a little helper. Asha's mother, the royal seamstress Sakina, saw no harm in it and allowed Asha to be Amaya's helper.

And cue Asha's parents dying

So when those two died, Amaya adopted Asha as the child had no other relatives, at least from what Asha remembers. Asha would drown herself in her duties to force herself to forget and not think about the loss of her parents, isolating herself from the outside world.

Amaya does care for Asha, but if there comes a time that she would have to choose between Magnifico and Asha...well...

Let's just say there will be heartbreak.

9.) Stupid and random ass question, butttt how would Hiccup and Orion get along (that is, if you like the movies/show). If you dunno, then how would he get along with Nimona or Jack Frost?

Orion being amazed with his sword Inferno, and suggests that he should also get himself a long ranged weapon too, like a crossbow with fire arrows! >:D

(Oh boy once he find out that Hiccup has a shield that can turn into a crossbow he's gonna beg Hiccup to make him one)

It pains me to say that i haven't watched Nimona...YET. But Orion would probably have a shapeshifting battle with them or something

Orion would beg Jack Frost to teach him ice magic cause it looks so cool! Moving frost bunnies!! It looks so cute!! And he's more attuned to fire so he has a hard time doing ice magic

She's mostly an Alchemist, maybe she knows some magic too but she's not as good as Magnifico. She does know how to use a blade though :D

13.) Why does Mag take wishes? Is Amaya on his side?

Yep he still does, When he became king, he made a rule that when they come of age, every citizen of Rosas must give their wish to him if they want to live there. His reasons is that its to prevent the tragedy that happened to his father, the previous king and his brother, Prince Philip that involved a Star and a wish, it was said that the Star took the prince's life to consume his wish to become more powerful and the previous king died protecting the prince.

He actually uses Wishes to trick stars to coming into Rosas.

You see in my au, whenever someone on earth makes a wish, when a star hears it, it's like LITERAL MUSIC to their ears (that is, if they even have ears but you get the point). And there's a difference between a real person making a wish and Magnifico using a wish to trick stars. Fake wishes by Magnifico sounds a bit distorted and it's like there's some off keys about it, like hitting a wrong note when playing music on a piano. Younger stars are more prone to being tricked due to not being able the difference due to inexperience.

So Magnifico uses the wishes to trick stars to think that someone in Rosas is having a disney princess "i wish" moment and they go down there to assist the wishmaker in pursuing their wish.

But unfortunately for Maggy, a meddling star always intervenes whenever a star does get tricked and comes down to Rosas. The star that gets tricked gets dragged back to space by the meddling star and gets lectured for not listening to warnings. Magnifico also ends up getting burned and some of his belongings on fire because of this guy.

Yes Amaya is in on it, they're partners in crime :)

14.) Ahh I see what you did there, but imma ask it anyway: Is Charo (if it is their name) a lynx or just a house cat? Do him and Asha's owl get along, or does Charo just want to eat him?

Just an Aegean cat, though don't underestimate the little guy, Charo has probably clawed out a man's eyeball at some point.

Charo and Chará don't really like each other.

Whenever they're alone with each other they would often get into a fight. Lots of scratching and hissing and aggressive hooing.

Don't have your Starboys use magic to allow them to be able to talk, there would be lots of screaming and arguing and threats and the occasional profanity with those two. Orion is already traumatized.

15.) Oh no! Canon Asha appears in Asha's room! WHatever shall she doooo????

She'd wonder if Magnifico cloned her or something. Honestly, why is she not surprised she should've expected that he would get rid of her one day. Then she'd try to find a way to send her back where she came from.

16.) If you don't know the name for your au, that's okay. I'm just wondering what your AU is named :3

At first i named it Shoot for the Stars, but Flicker recently pointed out that it sounds a bit too similar to their Reach for the Stars AU and it might cause confusion, but they suggested the title Shooting Stars instead. Which is a wonderful name and so it's called Shooting Stars now!

The title (whether its the old or new one) references Starboy's name having a relation to archery, how my au Magnifico literally tries to shoot down stars, how my Starboy uses the archery skill he's known for to protect the stars that Magnifico is trying to shoot down and capture.

He sure hopes that Charo and Chará won't catch wind of his existence, they'd fight over who gets to eat him.

19.) Design inspirations you got from designing Asha and Orion!

Lots of Medieval themed dresses for Asha, there was so much saved on my phone that it already has low storage D':

But i settled with a mix of these three outfits instead:

To add onto the Rose theme i gave her a Rose choker.

I also gave some Thorny vine designs that would be seen on her dress.

The idea was to give her some sort of Thorny Rose vibe. It's not just her that has a thorny vine design on her, citizens under the Royal couple's rule has a thorny vines design on their attires. For Orion, his outfit is a mix of Prince Florian and Prince Charming's outfit.

Here's also some fun facts about his design!

There are three diamonds in his belt, it actually references the asterism called Orion's belt found in the Constellation Orion! (It's a silly little detail that i thought would be fun to share)

His main outfit colors consists of Dark colors (Blue and Black) to symbolize how he blends in the night sky, unnoticed so no one can wish on him. And some gold colors too but it doesn't really dominate his outfit.

Used a fur collar for a "Hunter" vibe (at least that's what my notes were telling me while i was looking through his old designs idk wth past me was talking about)

His outfit should not have too many layers, as it would hinder him using his Bow whenever he's trying to shoot something. But i still wanted to give some sort of princey vibe for reasons, and so his current design was born.

He can turn his cape intangible whenever he desires so it won't hinder him whenever he's trying to aim for something. But he can't turn it intangible for long periods of time.

He has a Star brooch on the middle of his fur collar thingy, it's default look is the one on the left. But whenever he uses magic it changes to the star on the right.

50) Wendell & Wild (Movie, 2022)

A lovingly crafted stop-motion animated movie with some good old kid-friendly horror vibes and a punky attitude, even starring a pretty nice transmasc character that I'm super happy to see. It's a nice story with a good visual style and a lot of heart, and I think Key and Peele being involved is pretty funny honestly. [4★]

51) Murder by Numbers (Switch, 2020)

Decent enough Picross game with a basic detective narrative stringing it together that I'm not really a huge fan of, but it does its job and I appreciate the adorable robot as well as some of its representation. And no idea how they got the composer from Ace Attorney and Ghost Trick, lmao [3★]

52) Pokémon Picross (GBC, Unreleased)

Yeah, this was better than the 3DS one, it's just basic Picross that doesn't do much (only real mechanic it adds is being able to change the music) but that's still better than the shitty mobile game model. They really should have just released this, it was straight-up finished and I even got a cart that works on original hardware because I think that's neat. [3.5★]

53) Paper Mario: The Origami King (Switch, 2020)

Going to be killed for playing this as my first Paper Mario but who cares, this game is cool in spite of its awkward battle system (which DOES kinda suck). Just a fun adventure with typical quirky writing and some surprisingly powerful moments, plus an excellent soundtrack, I'm sure some of the earlier games are better but I did play this one and did enjoy it. [4★]

54/55) Knives Out/Glass Onion (Movies, 2019/2022)

Incredible pair of detective movies, both full of really engaging writing and directing work that keeps you invested and never stops being entertaining to watch, surely still really good on a rewatch too. They also really fuckin' hate rich people, especially the second one which is woke as hell and has one of my favourite endings in anything, so that's what some might call "based". I can't wait to see what Rian Johnson does for the third Benoit Blanc movie, which is apparently meant to be a 2024 release. [5★]

56) Sonic the Hedgehog (IDW Comics, 2018-Present)

These are some damn enjoyable comics, telling some fun and generally quite well-written stories set after the events of Sonic Forces with a cast of really cool characters. Honestly kind of ride or die for Tangle and Whisper, but original villains like Dr Starline are great to read too. Early highlight is definitely the Metal Virus arc, but the more recent stuff with Surge was excellent too. Safe to say the team behind these stories know their shit. [4.5★]

57) Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Movie, 2023)

They really did it, they went out of their way to make a bigger and better sequel to one of the greatest animated movies I've seen, and it's very possible that they succeeded... but we won't know until the second part comes out, which looks unfortunately unlikely to be any time soon because production sucked. Still, what we did get is yet another gorgeously animated spectacle with a cool storyline, everyone knows that. [4.5★]

58) Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (Movie, 2023)

One of the only parts of the MCU that I cared about more or less concluded with this movie, and fuck it might be the best one in the trilogy. Rocket's harrowing backstory really hits out with that theme of some jerkass playing god, and the core adventure of the film is pretty engaging too, just as cool as ever. Plus it's now confirmed Vocaloid exists in the MCU lol [4.5★]

59) The Suicide Squad (Movie, 2021)

Another instance of James Gunn making an actual good superhero movie, this time making a good adaptation of something that previously had a bit of a shit one. I appreciate the kinda edgy nature of the titular squad that was handled solidly here, and their antics are honestly pretty funny. Fun action sequences too, and it's honestly really cool how much the movie thinks rats are awesome (they kind of are tbh). Peter Capaldi, the best version of Doctor Who, playing a mad scientist role is also just... really good. [4★]

60) Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio (Movie, 2022)

Man fuck Disney, this is obviously the best version of the Pinocchio story and their attempt to overshadow it was lame as hell. I quite like the darker take on the story with themes of death and war around Italy's rise of fascism (Tom Kenny Mussolini is crazy btw), and of course the stop-motion animation is really quite excellent. Always love to see movies made in such a way. [4★]

Yeah, I get why the storybook duo of games have a bad reputation, because the motion control gimmicks kinda suck, but Secret Rings suffers from it far more than Black Knight, and that still has the cool ideas and solid writing combined with a great soundtrack (both games have this). Maybe the mission-based level structure isn't great, but there's some fun stuff to be found in these. Wish they were better though. [2.5★/3.5★]

Notes - There was a LOT of smut in this book. At least 5 or 6 different scenes, which i’m not complaining about. It just feels, after awhile, you start to wish there was a little more to Alfie and Mabels relationship than just sex. But with the premise of this book being a “fake relationship” trope, it makes sense that the relationship part would be stunted. I love the subtle themes of abuse and trauma and how it’s woven into both characters story arcs so perfectly. It makes it so the ending of the book is believable-- that maybe they really did just miss the warning signs through passionate interactions. ON TOP of this, the main character is a plus size woman. Many other reviews will complain that they don’t like the self-hatred and fatphobia that comes with the territory, claiming that it was the “same old narrative” over and over. if you check my account, you’ll see that i haven’t read many books, so maybe this is just my problem. i haven’t SEEN any other plus size main characters who are perused by attractive and athletic men who are always seen out with models. Of course self doubt would come in with this. I felt, as a plus size AFAB myself, that this was a great representation of myself. Maybe it’s my own self hatred talking (and that would be saying a LOT, because i’m a pretty body positive, self loving person.) but i thought this book was perfect in terms of representation. I just wish it had a little bit more romance and a teeny teeny tiny bit less sex.

☆ - Milo has an affinity with fire! Their magic is flame based primarily, actually a bit on the rare side especially from a Cubus me thinks.. They often use it for a flashy show however you have to be careful. The flames of Asphodel burn hot for a damn reason

☆ - Milo absolutely hates any Cubus that crosses their path. No niceties spared. Even Greater lords/Minor lords/Major lords are not spared from this. They're territorial of what's theirs.

☆ - They're actually pretty good at knitting and crochet. Except you would never know unless they tell you and they've only told two people ever that they like something like that.

☆ - Navika is one of their contracts.. however it's odd considering Navika treats Milo like hes a descendant of his own. The contract itself is not sexual in nature, providing information and heloing Navika with a desire for knowledge.... but it's rather hilarious in general. It ruffles their feathers lowkey

☆ - Their favorite activity of the moment is making Aitreo angry as hell. Sorry king. They're waiting for the face crack of the century from him.. plus maybe it might deter Nakaou from being around the guy.

☆ - Akaiss' love kbbq.. Literally top favorite things. Alas his schedule and work provides little time at establishments that serve that sort of stuff. Usually if he is at a place, tends to end up in a very very bloody mess and he has to leave because drones will end up there..

☆ - Per his contract, he does do acting and modeling! Being an idol comes first, But Akaiss is a name known across a lot of family households. He's pretty keen about that one.

☆ - Hes not a big sweets liker. He enjoys savory foods first and foremost. He often throws away a lot of sweets his fans give him or let's Julian and Vernon have free reign over them. He doesn't mind when Velina makes them for him. That's incredibly different to him

☆ - Akaiss has been trained by numerous different ancestors of mine. Moonkeeper, Deadeye, Director, Revolution, Threadweaver and Seamstress to name a few.. He is incredibly skilled for someone his age.. Might not be the best idea to challenge him to a fight.

☆ - Akaiss loves to show off his wealth whenever he can. Be it materials or just gold..

☆ - Masayo is undefeated so far in his weight class/blood caste. He is an exceptionally fair fighter and tends to keep to the rules no matter what the case!

☆ - Masayo owns no vehicles of his own. He walks everywhere he goes.. or he takes public transportation. But mainly walking. You would not believe how fast this fuckijg guy can walk. 8'8" bitch hauling ass but he's not actually running or anything. Just walking quick

☆ - Masayo's nails are actually strong enough to cut through steel! He has an incredibly hard time keeping himself from scratching people sometimes on accident.

☆ - MOTHERFUCKER HAD A BLACKHOLE FOR A STOMACH. literally will eat everything you can't and be like WELP!

☆ - Masayo speaks loudly because of the heating damage he has from his time in the fleet/hitman... Part of his loudness is from PASSION.. but mainly because he can't tell how loud he's being

☆ - Ketana is incredibly flexible. You wouldn't be able to tell but he's able to bend himself into some interesting positions to avoid getting hurt.

☆ - He is incredibly picky about who touches him without permission. He absolutely loaths being touched by strangers and most likely will hurt you pretty bad if you even enter his personal bubble. There are very few he actually allows in and even then occasionally he might flinch from the contact.

☆ - Tana is spades bait. He does so in a very very talk down kind of way.. it comes off as a challenge of will you bend or will you fight him thing but 99% of the time he will turn cold and volatile if you try to initiate flirting with him though.

☆ - He knows how to play the violin and piano from one of his Moirails!

☆ - Surprisingly not a drinker or does drugs. Does occasionally smoke. Not enough to be a problem. Let him have his stress break and he'll be over it for another week or so.

☆ - Nakaou feels neither pain or pleasure! He kinda exists. Like no sensations at all besides maybe feeling warm or cold at times.

☆ - Funnily enough, Nakaou is only addicted to Nicotine. He does occasionally feel the high but not the low. He can tell when the lows are there by his body reacting (shaking, sweaty hands, sweaty..) but it's not like he can actually feel that sensation of withdrawal too well. It kinda takes him by surprise

☆ - He absolutely loves flower arrangements and making bouquets for people... He has a giant garden at home with his favorites and takes really good care of em. Catches Nikoli out there sleeping in his garden a lot among his favorite flowers.

☆ - Loves cooking for others! He sometimes cooks stuff and drops it off at his friends houses when he doesn't wanna deal with leftovers.. jsut makes enough to share. Give em the fresh stuff. Goes home and has dinner!

☆ - Actually prefers to sleep outside when the sun is out.. probably not the best idea. So he stays inside instead.

reading this was a long time coming for me and omg why didn't i read it sooner. i just finished it literally 5 minutes ago so i'm still just sitting here processing. goddamn 😭

queer historical fiction is, as always, one of my favourite genres. i just love to hurt apparently. it just makes me so mad and sad and devastatingly impressed with and proud of the queer community. tshoeh did such a good job of putting it all into a personal perspective, too. everything celia, evelyn, and harry go through to protect their relationships is so frustrating and heartbreaking. it was so romantic but so strained. i'm going feral bro it was just so MUCH. plus the way celia and evelyn could be so poetically romantic had me in a chokehold fr i was in a constant state of pining the entire time.

i also just absolutely love the characters. especially harry and evelyn both i just 🫶🏻🫶🏻. they were so dynamic and flawed but charming all the same. i loved their relationship and i loved them as characters individually. the author did such an amazing job. and the PLOT TWIST at the end... goddamn. the whole book was written so fucking well. i even cried a couple times which i was somehow not expecting. shit had me fucked up.

i was really impressed with the bisexual rep too! i think it might be the best bi rep i've read so far. it didn't hesitate to explicitly tear down biphobic stereotypes and explained evelyn's sexuality very succinctly while portraying her character, flaws and all. i was very impressed with the book & loved every second of it. 😌

Let It Snow Review

★★★☆☆ - 3 stars

On a Christmas Eve, Gracetown becomes blanketed in snow. As three stories come together to form one, a group of teenagers lives change indefinitely as romance forms in the most unlikely of places. Alongside romance blooming, a series of dramatic events sends them down festive paths they never would have anticipated ending up in.

The Jubilee Express by Maureen Johnson

★★★★★ - 5 stars

Jubilee Dougal was not expecting to spend Christmas in Gracetown with a family she didn't know. But when her parents got arrested; her boyfriend was being neglectful; her train broke down on the way to visit her grandparents; and she trekked in the snow to a Waffle House, she didn't have much choice. She wasn't expecting to fall in love with a total stranger either - but Christmas has an effect on people.

It took me a few pages but once I got into this one, I loved it.

Jubilee is awesome - who doesn't completely favour her over pretty much every character in this book. And Stuart is the sweetest man on earth.

Stuart's mam kind of freaked me out a bit, but she was nice so it was fine.

And the way that Stuart and Jubilee bonded over having terrible exes was cute.

Also, on that note, I hate Noah with all of my guts - he found out his girlfriend had several near death experiences within a few hours and he didn't even care at all!? What's wrong with this guy!?

But, overall, I got really invested in this one - it was the cute, cozy Christmas romance I was looking for. I loved it.

A Cheertastic Christmas Miracle by John Green

★★★★☆ - 4 stars

When Tobin and his friends get a call from Keun at the Waffle House, they set out on a trek to join him there - if only for the cheerleaders. But getting there isn't so easy, with a broken down car; miles of travel all if which is covered in snow; and two twins threatening their every move. Along the way, Tobin discovers maybe he isn't going for the cheerleaders after all - maybe he is simply in love with his best friend: the Duke (Angie).

The Duke is definitely my favourite character - she was created well, she wasn't very feminine but didn't judge other girls for being feminine.

Also I love the pop cultures references - Twister is one of the best board games around and James Bond is iconic.

I think it was kind of slow paced, but it was still good. My main issue is the sexist interpretation of cheerleaders - sexualising the concept of cheerleaders themselves, pom poms and short skirts. It was addressed, but it still made me uncomfortable.

I thought Tobin and the Duke were super cute together. However, it took me a while to get there.

Overall, I liked it quite a lot - this is the second thing I've read by John Green and his writing style is still something I'm getting used to but I do like it.

The Patron Saint of Pigs by Lauren Myracle

★★☆☆☆ - 2 stars

The fate of a singular teacup pig falls into the hands of a dramatic teenage girl, Addie. Whilst trying to keep the pig safe, she has to navigate her broken relationship with her boyfriend Jed, after having cheated on him by kissing someone else.

I didn't really like the writing style - frankly, I found it boring after the first page. Also, can we talk about the writing is very Eleanor and Park esque - even down to the racism ("He seemed so exotic" almost killed me).

Addie is really annoying too - she totally doesn't deserve Jeb.

Plus, this story argues that it's okay to cheat on someone as long as you apologize profusely in an attempt to salvage the relationship.

But, I have to admit I mostly finished this one for the teacup pig - and to see how the stories intertwined in the end.
