[ cú, for renge ] It has been a good while since he last made a flower arrangement, which is a bit of a shame considering how fun they are. After all, there are countless types of flowers in the world, each with its own meaning, and everyone has their own preferences. Taking the time to prepare these arrangements was thrilling, especially if he managed to brighten up the day of the one who would receive the flowers. This time, he went with something simple yet beautiful, with various ranunculuses in different shades of pink and yellow as the protagonist of the bouquet, and greenery and little crocus flowers to complement them.

Once he found Renge, with his arms behind his back, he looked around as if he was looking for someone, even though that someone was right in front of him. "Excuse me, I'm looking for a young princess who has the same radiance as the first rays of sunshine after a spring drizzle. Would you happen to know her?" He asked with a smile, but soon he was presenting the bouquet to her. Quite the quick search! "I'm aware that it's still a little early for valentine's, but I wanted you to have this." He could say he wanted Renge to have the arrangement before the valentine's shenanigans started in Chaldea, but the truth was he just thought she would like the flowers.

She is sitting there over the Chaldea’s spacious lounging area, paper and pencil on hand, preoccupied with an incomplete handwritten checklist on hand, names of many staff members and servants listed one by one—as she means to offer some gifts over the Valentine’s Day. When her list keeps on expanding, Renge has become lost in her own thoughts: what to give, and what should she be off doing before giving? Buying gifts is one simple thing, making a gift from complete scratch is another! Being highly scrupulous over her own gifts, she wants to put some thoughts as well into each one of them! ( that’s what she said, when Valentine’s are only a day away. )

“Hng?” A familiar youthful face and visage that appears upon her, it is none other than the Child of Light, Cú Chulainn himself! The nickname ‘princess’ seems to have stuck with her for some reason, and as much as it’d successfully make her heart flutter whenever he calls her that way, she finds no reason for him to stop that habit. It is gratifying, it is self-indulgent to her, and she’s just being real to herself.

Carmine eyes blink almost rapidly with agape. “Wha — for me?” A colorful array of flowers, meticulously arranged into a bouquet. Again, the ancient Irish heartthrob is always so full of surprises. Even with just a brief observation, it is nowhere difficult to tell that he had poured his utmost thoughts and efforts into this early Valentine gift. “I… um, thank you, Lancer!” Accepting her gift, arms wrap around her bouquet as if she is pulling it to a close embrace. “I-it is beautiful… really! Did you arrange this yourself?”

As of what her knowledge about flower language could provide, ranunculus blooms of pink and yellow colors apparently embody the positive feelings of love and joy. From that fact alone, she could only guess for good about his true intentions. ( maybe she is overthinking it... but it did make her day already! )

Unfortunately I think Tsuyu would suffer from that disease of “people don’t know how to properly discuss female characters and what they like about them so they default to wife, girl boss, or mommy” and then when you ask them for something deeper they just hit you with the “she’s so queen”

I think this is unfortunately a common thing for female characters who do not fit the highly traditional feminine mold / unabashedly confident with themselves, sadly. And while it's mostly fine in a flippant, tongue-in-cheek sense to me as the author ((G)I-DLE's Queencard song and 'queen never cry' meme come to mind as an example), it's also important to discuss her in more than surface level behavior too. I can't really blame the fandom for simplifying it to "queen behavior" because well, it is the fandom sphere (honestly we can't expect much from any fandom tbh). But when discussing about her as a character, she definitely couldn't be summed in just "queen"... Unlike the idealized image of a "queen", she's full of imperfections, and that's what makes her intriguing and close to a human (despite not really being one) as a character... yknow.

On the outside, Renge presents herself as an "all-around nice girl". She's likely what the typical otakus would say as riajuu aka "a person who has a normal life and job". Personally, this term feel so outdated and strange to me because you can be an otaku while having a healthy personal life and whatnot, but to the more hardcore otakus who are more socially inept, then I suppose she would fit the riajuu term...? Anyway, moving on: she has a balanced social life, but there's also the persona she has cultivated as the stylish historical otaku Youtuber, which is a rather niche hobby on the very first place. While she's achieved a moderate amount of success, I always think that she's often secretly insecure about her own hobbies and interests. There's this, uh, innate desire in herself to be 'socially acceptable' to the public and appearing like a proper riajuu, despite being out and open about being a rekijo (female history otaku). On the other hand, she has an even more niche and macabre interests in the supernatural and occult, which she often keeps even more to herself and closest people only bc it's even more less socially acceptable? That's why she'll get super excited when meeting someone who doesn't side eye her for her niche interests, and willing to entertain her weirder ideas without judging her for being weird (looks @ miss Kimiko hiii)

In the end, I feel like Renge realizes how actually self conscious she is for feeling afraid of being disliked or being looked down upon by others though to be honest, she's already been looked down upon for coming from a single-parent family since young (yes the stigma in general is strong there). She's more than aware that she can't control what people thinks about her, that's why she'll play it safe by acting performative to be liked in the public. It's kind of ironic, considering that she does have a genuinely kind nature and will often feel inclined to help people, although she often questions herself if she does it to make herself feel better or truly out of her own goodwill, but hey, that's what makes her human despite of the Buddhist goddess hijinks going around with her rn! She's not perfect like a true goddess!

Tl;dr people who is unabashedly confident with themselves in every aspects is someone she aspires to be (or jealous of, at times), because even she is not 100% confident with herself.

The fact she even gave him a small piece of art of himself up there simply adds more to the amusement. "How entertaining," he mutters to himself. What's with that fire-spitting horse at the bottom, though? It's difficult to tell what's in the lass' little mind and how it boils down to her artistic choices. "Well, three bingoes is enough to say that we can get along just fine." It is what he could surmise for now, and it is more than satisfactory. Lastly, he could not help but at least to commend her on the effort, "A plus point for the nice drawing."

I really enjoy how strong of a character Tsuyuko is and how she's sort of like the femme fatale type while still acting playful! I also think it makes a lot of sense for her to weaponize sex in the ways she does. It's a detail that makes her character very believable. My favorite thing is how she doesn't jump immediately to romance (at least with Kai) and was able to have a fuck buddy relationship with him. It's really unique, and even if they end up falling for each other, the way they started out will always stick with me. Idk, I just really like plotting with our little gremlins.

aaaaa thank you v. much!! it's also been a blast plotting with you and it's really fun so far to make tsuyu act... in a not-romance relationship that kinda hits a little close to actual romance, but it's still NOT at the same time!? (what am I even talking about) from what i've seen so far kai is also an equally complex character with multifaceted personality (it's really delightful to see him at his best and his lows) and it's fun to watch two people with attachment issues acting absolutely horny with each other, but not knowing what to do past it. she does find presence refreshing to have around, and he's cute when he's acting a little silly, sooo---

actually, there is a lot more to elaborate about how she views actual romantic relationship and sex as well (and why she ends up weaponizing it for her benefits), but i'm afraid that will be a story for another time. i feel like some more detailed elements of her backstory may be a little bit difficult to digest for the public bc it's definitely not pretty though i must also say, nothing in feudal japan is pretty for women who aren't born in wealth... so i will eventually find a proper timing to talk more about it.

“…” now that’s an unusual question — coming from a human too, out of all people. “I assume you dared to question me that on the very first place because you wish to know about my honest thoughts… very well.” He only needs to be as eloquent as he can be with his answers, but doesn’t hold back from truly saying his thoughts, right? It’ll be slightly challenging, yet still doable regardless.

“If you put a piece of a human next to of a pork, beef, and a random game meat and let me sample it without knowing which one is which, I wouldn’t be able to tell simply from the taste alone.” Implying that he cares less about the actual taste, but there’s something more to it. “But the mana or life force you get from a human’s flesh is different because it’s particularly more bountiful. There’s even more plenty if you consume the brain — likely because they believe it’s where thoughts and emotions are stored...” His sentence briefly trails off until he tops it off with a conclusion, “...yes, the brain is indeed the most satisfying part to me, taste wise.”

As minutes turned into hours in a day, the ticking time goes uncounted when she is so deeply immersed in her read.

One scroll, two scrolls, three scrolls — they eventually form into a pile at the edge of her desk. Nonetheless, the dragoness is attentive enough to at least arrange them into a neat stack of properly folded scrolls. Disorder is particularly intolerable for the personal standards she'd set for herself. Without realizing how swift the passage of time has lasted, she’d been preoccupied with her read for almost the entire day, not sparing a single moment to partake in food apart of some  essential refreshments.

It is when she catches the piquant smell across the air that her attention is fully diverted from the row of manuscript that she was reading. “Oh.” A familiar face, with a bowl of food on his hands — warm steam visibly rising up to the air. The dish is eventually set onto her desk alongside a spoon, where she could spectate of the full view of the egg flower soup. Garnished with small cuts of scallions on top of its presentation, the appetizing sight serves as a reminder that she’d skipped the entire meal worth a day; a particular bad habit of hers when she’s completely lost in her own little universe.

“I didn’t know you can cook, Si-woo.” Comes her candid comment, dropping all forms of pretenses. She need not to do so with a friend.  “Or did you not make this yourself?” Her humor is always as dry as a bone; he should be used to it by now. “Hah. Regardless…” Taking in the aroma once more to sate her senses, her hand would also come to reach the spoon before dipping it into the soup to take a sample. “Thank you for your thought.”

Without verbalizing her own inner thoughts further, her evaluation regarding the taste is apparent enough when Shuijing starts to take more than a spoonful of the soup. “…This is not bad.” Or it shall be interpreted as, ‘it’s really good!’ without having to actually say so.
