Michaela had been excited about Maria's visit ever since her friend had mentioned it in their correspondence. It was always a mystery to people why an extroverted lady like Michaela preferred the isolated Schottish Highlands to the London high society. She had serval reasons for it, and it had become even more pleasant since John had married Francesca. The two women got along great. Perhaps more than great on her part, even though she tried to hide it, not wanting to tarnish her beloved cousin's marriage. But by the look @tealeavesandthorns was giving her, her friend had caught on to it.
"You are giving me this look again, Maria," the woman said, putting down two of her cards before drawing new ones, trying to keep her expression in check even though the move had made her hand worse. "It's like you're expecting me to grow a wart on my nose all of the sudden." Maria knew what that look was about, but he was not ready to confide in the other just yet.

"I would always rather be happy than dignified." - Bridgerton!Maria @ Michaela
“Now you know why I hide away in the Scottish Highlands!” Michaela shared her friend’s sentiment. Of what worth was dignity without happiness. It could not shield you against the misery around you. “I’m happy there, and no one expects me to be dignified. To play any role for the sake of name or family. Or status.” Kilmartin was as far away from the hustle of the Ton as any place could be. // @tealeavesandthorns

Michaela Stirling Bridgerton / series canon + headcanon / lesbian / open for shipping
Tumblr media
Raised in Kilmartin besides her cousin John, Michaela soon discovered she wasn’t like the other young ladies they encountered occasionally. She was not interested in the gentlemen but rather her fellow ladies. A secret she keeps close to her heart. And one of the reasons she enjoys the seclusion of the Scottish Highlands despite her outgoing nature. There she can spend time with her beloved cousin, read, and spend her time outside: shooting and hawking.
Main ships: Michaela/Francesca Alternative Universes: modern (tba); a song of ice and fire (lady of House Stirling from the Vale)

“As if it is possible to hide anything from you,” Michaela smirked, hiding behind her usual mask of humor and charm. A defense mechanism she had perfected over the years. One that was needed to avoid all those curious ladies in society asking her why she hadn’t found a husband yet. Why she seemed to scare all possible suitors away, and why an outgoing lady like her preferred to hide away in secluded Kilmartin. Michaela had been able to keep her secret, revealing it only to those she trusted most. Maria was one of them, and she had the feeling the other had put two and two together.
“I’m always happy to have John around.” She had always been fond of her cousin despite their vastly different temperaments. “And Francesca is a welcome addition to our little family.” John had made a good choice of wife. “I doubt anyone would ever call her anything but pleasant company.” Quiet and shy. But they were doing their best to introduce her to Scottish country life. “But I’m most happy to have you here, my dear friend.”
Whilst Maria did love society in London, loved watching the seasons progress, the love stories that came from them, she also loved Scotland, especially the Highlands. The countryside was beautiful, if not at times ferocious and wild. It was quiet and loud all at the same time. Perhaps the thing she adored most in Scotland though was Michaela. They had known each other a long time and Maria considered her one of her closest confidants.
"There's something you're not telling me," Maria said narrowing her eyes over her cards, before putting some down and picking up others, failing to hide the slight smile on her face. "Something's different about you and I've yet to put my finger on it." That was a half lie because Maria suspected but she would let Michaela tell her, lest she put ideas in the others head. "You do seem very happy to have your cousin and the Bridgerton girl here though."
