I realized I didn’t have a timeline that’s just like simple & easy for ppl to reference and read. There are gonna be years here, but I made the years based off the pilot’s premier date in 2013, so they’re mostly there for a reference for everyone’s ages. @bottleddcddyissues​ & @implausiblynaive​ if y’all want me to change things since you’re my Beth & Morty feel free to let me know I won’t trip or anything! DEAR DAD

Dear Daddy,Mother and Wally got married today. People say it’s okay if I feel upset about it, but I really don’t. And I don’t think you’d want me to be, either. I think you’d like him. He doesn’t try to be you, but he loves us, all of us, just the same. He helps when Mother is in one of her moods. He’s a good influence on CJ. I think it helps to have a surrogate father around, you know? 

Dear Daddy,I graduated from high school today. Mother says you’d be really proud. I’m glad Wally is here, but I still really miss you. It’s funny isn’t it? I wasn’t even in school when you passed away, but I still miss you so, so much. I’m going to Stanford. I’d like to think you’d be really proud of me.

Dear Daddy,I married Rick today. It was really beautiful. I think you would have loved the ceremony. I even got Rick to wear a yarmulke (something that you’d think is hilarious if you knew him)! Mother doesn’t really care for Rick, but Grandpa Morty loves him, so I have to think you’d love him, too. Wally gave me away, but I kind of feel like you were there with me, too, as silly as that sounds. I love you so much.

Dear Dad,Your granddaughter was born today. Elizabeth Sanchez. She’s beautiful. I wanted to write this down today so I wouldn’t forget the feelings, but I am so exhausted. I think you’d understand.

Dear Dad,I don’t really know what to say. I just sat down to write this because writing to you always makes me feel better, even if I know you don’t respond. It’s almost like a prayer, I guess. G-d answers in life, and I think maybe you answer through life, too.I’ve been crying for almost an hour now. Rick and I had a huge fight. I guess it wasn’t any different than all our fights lately. NPCS IN ELEANORE’S LIFE These are people that Eleanore references in her day to day life. Because of her age, quite a few of them have passed away, but given that they are her family, she still talks a lot about them.

Marion Savege (nee Theodores, formerly Wolff) Eleanore’s late mother. A rather severe woman, hardened by her first child’s and her husband’s deaths, she brought up Eleanore and her two siblings on her own. When Eleanore was in high school, Marion remarried Wally Savege. She passed away of a stroke around the time Summer was born. FC: Laura Linney

Lt.Col. Charles Wolff Eleanore’s late father. He passed away when she was young of liver disease. He had a military career and served in World War II from 1940-1944. Eleanore only has fond memories of her father, being that she was only six when he passed away.  FC: Alexander Skarsgard

Charles Wolff, Jr. “CJ” CJ was Eleanore’s older brother. Growing up he was a bit of a wild child, running with Greasers and other miscreants. He was still excellent in the sciences, like his sister, but he had an affinity more for biology. Eventually, he went to school and became a vet tech. CJ spent most of his life in the closet (only telling his sisters when he was about to move out of the house). He lived with his boyfriend Efrain for about four years in secret before his mother passed away, and he felt comfortable enough to come out publicly. Unfortunately, he passed away from a heart attack a few years later.  FC: Kevin McKidd

Sharon Ehrenburg (nee Wolff) Eleanore’s younger sister, the youngest of the Wolff brood, and the golden child. She was popular, a cheerleader, got good grades, and to her mother’s delight, married a good Jewish man named Mikhalis “Mike” Ehrenburg. She and her husband had one son, Josh Ehrenburg who about to graduate with his BA from the University of New Mexico. Sharon currently lives in Colorado Springs, a widow and a best-selling novelist. Sindy Patrick One of Eleanore’s best friends and roommates that she met at Stanford. She was an economist, and has one son named Liddell. After college, she stayed in the San Jose area (eventually moving to San Francico). Sindy was a wonderful support for Eleanore throughout her entire life (and she thinks of her as more of a sister than a friend). It hit Eleanore really hard when Sindy passed away a couple of years ago. FC: Oprah Winfrey

Donna Gregory-Hughes Perhaps the most cautious of the Donna-Eleanore-Sindy triad, Eleanore also met Donna at Stanford. She met Donna through Sindy, but the two became fast friends, and soon all three of them were roommates and upper-classmen. Around this time, Rick came back around, and while Sindy was supportive of Eleanore’s happiness, Donna did not like Rick at all for how he treated Eleanore. Just like Sindy, Donna has been a loyal friend throughout Eleanore’s life. She now lives in Christmas Valley, Oregon with her husband. Her two children grew up calling Eleanore “Aunt,” and now Donna’s grandchildren call El the same. FC: Jasmine Guy

Wally Savege Marion’s second husband and Eleanore’s step-father. He was the jovial counterpart to her mother’s bitter demeanor. Eleanore loved him almost as much as her own father. Wally even walked her down the aisle at her wedding. He passed away right after Beth was born. FC: Colin Firth

Jimmy Wolff Jimmy was the first-born child of Charles and Marion Savege. Unfortunately, at the tender age of five. Eleanore doesn’t remember anything about Jimmy because she was just over a year old when he passed away in an automobile accident. She knew him through photographs and her parents’ grief. Gary Landau Eleanore’s college boyfriend. The one that her mom set her up with via her friends. Gary was who Eleanore was “supposed” to marry: a good Jewish boy, coming from a good family, good job prospects, etc. Gary was nice enough, but Eleanore found him boring; she left him for Rick in their sophomore year of college and has never looked back. William Mortimer Sanchez A purely hypothetical FC of course (although given the multiverse, it’s possible that he could be grown up, in which case he would be a wonderful son, brother, and uncle). William was Eleanore and Rick’s second child. She had a good pregnancy up until she went into labor when an accident at the hospital led to William suffocating in the womb before he could even take his first breath. Eleanore took the loss hard, and she still visits his grave site as often as she can. FC: Matthew Gray Gubler

5. What’s their relationship with their parents like? What about other relatives?

El’s relationship with her mother was…COMPLICATED. Marion was a devout Jew, someone who held very dear to her heart “traditional family values,” and seemed to find some sort of sick enjoyment out of comparing her kids. The last one may be an exaggeration, but Eleanore grew up always being compared to her younger sister Sharon. She wasn’t as good as Sharon, but she didn’t do enough to distant herself from her Greaser Brother CJ.

El only has fond memories of her father. He suffered from alcoholism and shellshock after having served in both World War II. Unfortunately, he died a couple months after Eleanore’s sixth birthday. The, I guess, “good news” being that she wasn’t ever able to grow up and notice his flaws as children are wont to do.

Her relationships with her siblings are actually pretty solid despite the issues with her mother. CJ came out to her as gay when he was older; she was the first one he told. He subsequently told Sharon many years later, but he never told his mother for fear of her completely disowning him. CJ passed away in the late 90s, and El misses him every day. Sharon pretty much immediately moved out of the house after high school, got married, and had a baby. Eleanore obviously took the academic path that was less acceptable to her mother, BUT the Sharon and El talk on the phone almost daily now.

The only other family member that she had a closer relationship with than I guess is typical would be her maternal grandfather, Morty Theodores. He was much more amiable than his daughter (but under a curmudgeon crust). He even lived with Eleanore and Rick for a while after they got their first house in Michigan (he refused to go in a home and he didn’t want anyone else to take care of him except el and her husband).

Donna Gregory-Hughes! 

She is a couple of years older than Eleanore, but the two met at S.tanford (where Donna was obtaining a major in the Spanish language). They ended up being roommates with their mutual friend Sindy starting Eleanore’s sophomore year, but they have remained lifelong friends. 

Donna is a retired Foreign Exchange Trader who lives in O.regon. She lived with her husband until he died some time in the nineties. She has two kids and one grandchild. She and Eleanore keep in touch on a regular basis and try to see each other as often as they can (easier now that they’re retired and empty-nesters).

She does not and has never liked R.ick S.anchez
