Me: Here’s a detailed analysis on how and why mycarthyism is what caused the super hero down fall in the 1950s which is why it’s out lawed then.  the us government is definitely using the spread of communism within the fifties to block all super hero legislation the 1950s were a conservative time, the supers being forced to go underground definitely coincides with the blacklisting of popular writers, actors, and politicians in attempt to stamp out communism. 

The idea that super heroes would help people and try to protect citizens without the governments total control of it. While supervillains and natural disasters are obviously a problem in their universe, the idea that superheroes exist completely independent of police and the military is a scary thing for the government. Citizens cannot trust something that could potentially have the power to over throw you and should the revolution come people would definitely have trusted super heroes more than the government. That could not stand. The movement to defame and outlaw superheroes is very much in keeping with the values of the time because of this.

Hi everyone! It’s your local jewish mun with a couple of informative links about Chanukah! As you may or may not know Chanukah is the jewish festival of lights, life, and the winter solstice and this year 5778/2017 it will be taking place between December 12 to the 20th. So I’ve come up with an easy and accessible crash course that’s free to reblog.

1) A short sweet and condensed version of the story. So thousands of years ago when my ancestors still lived the holy land the greeks took it over and told us we weren’t allowed to practice our judaism. So my ancestors did it in secret and when they couldn’t do that anymore they basically said hey fuck you and waged war on the greeks so that we could practice our religion and with lord’s help we were able to win. 

But our great temple was wrecked and when our ancestors got to the temple they decided to light the menorah that was in the temple as a symbol of hope. However in there was only enough oil for one night and it would take eight days to make and bless more kosher oil. So then the great miracle happened and the lord allowed the oil to burn for the eight days until more oil could be made and blessed.

2) The Menorah. Technically it is called a Chanukiah menorah being the general term for jewish candelabra, most Menorah have seven candles but the Chanukiah has nine. One for each of the eight night of Chanukah and one helper candle or Shamash that you light all of the other candles with. You light a new candle each for each night of the holiday. 

3) We eat a lot of fried foods to remembered the oil burned. Examples include fried potato pancakes called latkes, and sufganiyot a type of fried jelly doughnut.
