"don't, don't, isaac—" his voice is almost a whisper, nothing like its usual self. "isaac, fucking—" all of tobby's energy abruptly robbed from him the moment his older brother pushes past him towards her.

"come on, man." didn't tobby know nobody told him what to do? specially not his dumb younger brother. "i just wanna meet the pretty girl who has got you so happy you are skipping around at work." isaac's smile always did look a little dangerous. "diana, isn't it? you got any idea why he has been hiding you from us, sweetheart?"

"don't—" tobby pulled back like their touch burned, "don't fucking— don't come near me." breath suddenly labored. his eyes were glazed over, unfocused. "i tursted you. i trusted you! sure everyone fucking sucked, but not you, no. you were different and then you went and treated me like everyone else!"

"why would i want a threesome with a guy that's not as pretty as me, baby?" cue a disappointed head shake, "aim a little higher." toby laughed. almost skipping his way to her to all-too-excitedly present the jewelry box to her as though it was magic. pulling even a little ta-dah out of him. inside the velvet box, a small diamond necklace. "you are right though, it's me!"

diana looked up from her sketchpad and raised her eyebrows when toby walked into the room, "mmmmm, it's gotta be you, babyboy!" she laughed. "what makes you the best boyfriend in the world? did you bring pedro pascal home with you for a threesome?"

"I—" His mouth opened, closed, opened again, "I'm sorry, Sam, you know I am." Toby wanted to make this whole thing better, he desperately wanted to make this better, he didn't know how. "I'm just trying to take care of you."

she stopped and he did too, almost running straight into her, "it's not you i'm hiding, di!" tobby tried explaining. "did you meet that asshole? it's not like he did that because he really cares about the truth or about you! he literally just did all that to fuck with me! can you honestly blame me for wanting to pretend for a little while that that shit is not part of my life?" things were good with her, good, just so very good. how was he supposed to ruin all of it with the complete truth? "eli is even is an even bigger asshole, sammy just leaves me to deal with this shit and zeke does everything isaac tells him to like a little goddamn puppy!" the name of all his brothers thrown all like she hadn't just learned of their very existence. — when he spoke up again, his voice was a lot softer, "i just want— i just wanted to leave this house and pretend i don't have to deal with all of it for a little while. it wasn't you, it isn't you. i love you, baby, you know that'."

she can hear her boyfriend coming after her and she finally stopped to turn and look at him. "you have a whole fucking family i knew nothing about, toby, and who knew nothing of me! regardless of whatever it is that you do, you should have had enough faith in me! i love you, toby! i would do anything for you and you kept all of this very fucking vital information from me?! who does that?!" she exclaimed. "i thought we were okay...i wouldn't have judged you for what you do or what your family is like, toby. but you didn't trust me enough to tell me anything at all and that's what fucking hurts."

"wow." isaac laughed, turning back to his brother with a shake of his head, "so you are hiding us from her too, huh? that's wow, amazing. does she even know what you do for a livi—"

tobby tried to interrupt, "can you shut the fuck up, isaac?"

but isaac shook his head, "i can't, actually. i have a lot of catching up to do with your girlfriend." he turned back to diana, smile wide and sharp. "i'm that dumbass' older brother. did he tell you he has brothers? because he has four."

tobias is stuck behind his brother, looking meek and slightly stupid, unable to find something to say that doesn't make the entire situation worse. "it's just, it's just my brother. don't, just, i didn't know he was gonna be here tonight."

diana's confused. when the man pushed past her boyfriend, her brow furrowed and she bit into her lower lip. "i'm sorry, who are you?" she asked, looking between him and toby. "who is he, toby?" she questioned and folded her arms over her chest.

isaac laughed. a loud thing that echoed throughout the house. "you are so very welcome, doll." rising his glass at her in a toast and she was gone, leaving. and well, that was a job well done, wasn't it?

tobby was the one abandoned the bottle to run after her, "di, di. hey, baby, come on." following after in a rush, wanting nothing more than to stop her and finding it impossible to reach out. "i'm sorry, okay? i'm sorry. i'm sorry i didn't say anything, i— i mean, it's not like it's not like that's fun information to hear and everything with us was so good, and i, i, i just didn't wanna lose you. i'm sorry."

diana took the glass from isaac and downed the whiskey in one go as he explained what her boyfriend did. she inhaled sharply and clenched her jaw, "yeah, it's all becoming real clear for me..." she said and nodded her head before she walked over and took the bottle from toby to pour herself another glass. she watched them bicker and shook her head. "thank you for telling me all of this, isaac. something tells me toby didn't have plans to tell me anytime soon." she tapped her nails against her glass and tipped her head to the side as she looked in toby's direction. "did you?" she asked and furrowed her brow. diana shook her head and set the glass down, "it was nice meeting you, isaac. i need to go." she grabbed her jacket and walked out of the room.

isaac poured himself some whiskey, filled a glass for her as well. pointedly did not do it for his brother. "you know what's a babysitting job, sweetheart?" he could not look more amused, if he had caused the chaos himself. "not the one with kids, the ones with guns and making sure people don't leave the places where they are supposed to be before they are meant to, sometimes making sure people get from point a to point b in a timely manner. or getting them to find the thing they took from someone else, making sure they do not leave the place they are in until they remember where they put it. you starting to get it, sweetheart?"

and when isaac abandoned the bottle, tobby just took all of it for himself, drinking straight from it with a sigh. why didn't he tell her? that wasn't an answer that he could give right then, at least not one that wouldn't get isaac profoundly mad at him. all things considered he'd rather have diana mad at him than isaac. isaac was currently packing a gun, she wasn't. "see, this is why i never bring anyone home, asshole."

isaac gave his brother the middle finger. tobby did the very same.

she ignored her boyfriend and looked up at his brother as the man wrapped his arm around her shoulders. "uhm, sure," she murmured and felt her heart racing in her chest. isaac is listing off the brothers and she swallowed thickly. "so fucking crazy he didn't tell me that. that definitely sounds like first date information." diana narrowed her gaze in her boyfriend's direction, "what does he do for work, isaac?" she asked, still staring at toby. "or do i really even wanna know that?" she added and folded her arms over her chest once more.

all too dramatically he closed the lid, pulling the small box away, "i'm sorry what was that?" fighting back a smile, his eyebrows knitted together. "i'm sorry you were saying something about breaking up with me? was that what i heard? because this here is for my beloved girlfriend, with whom i plan to spend forevermore. so if we are about to break up i don't know if..." but not even toby could keep up the act. bursting into laughter as he presented the gift to her again. "yeah, yeah, come here." carefully pulling it out of its box, he put it on her and stared. yes, that was the word. he stared— because she looked like a dream come true. toby couldn't even come up with any other clever or silly thing to say. simply left standing there looking at her, with a small smile. his heart suddenly thundering inside his chest.

"i'll break up with you after you tell me why you're the best boyfriend in the world, babyboy," she murmured and gave him a little grin before he's skipping over to her. she threw her head back and laughed before he's presenting her with a velvet jewelry box. her eyebrows rose and when she opened the box, she inhaled sharply, "jesus christ, toby, this is beautiful!" she gasped and covered her mouth with her hand. "yep, i was so right to wait to break up with you until you gave this to me..." she nodded her head before a smirk pulled at her lips and she leaned up to press a kiss to his. "i'm so kidding. you really are the best boyfriend in the world! help me put it on!"
