What is Buffy the Vampire Slayer about?
Summary: "Sarah Michelle Gellar takes on the role of Buffy Summers in this TV version of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," based on the film of the same title, which starred Kristy Swanson. Buffy is a Slayer, one in a long line of young women chosen for a specific mission: to seek out and destroy vampires, demons and other forces of darkness. Unlike her predecessors, Buffy establishes a group of supportive friends who aids her in her battles with evil, including Willow, Xander and Cordelia. Her battles with evil are frequent, since Sunnydale, where Buffy and friends live, sits atop a gateway to the realm of the demons." Source: Rotten Tomatoes

Source: Rotten Tomatoes
Summary of second movie: "Exploding from the pages of Marvel Comics comes the thrilling follow-up to the blockbuster "Blade." Things Carol Peletier and Willow Rosenberg have in common. Because yes.
I should note that this started out as a comparison piece between Caryl and Willoz, because, so many reasons, but as it turned out, by not as many reasons as ...
Parallels between Carol and Willow.
I had one of those bead chokers when I was in high school. That should really tell you everything you need to know.
1. They both start out utterly adorable
and precious
and Carol stays that way. I should point out that I don't normally acknowledge BtVS beyond Season 3. That is like a whole other post though, which maybe isn't entirely pro-Willow (because of, primarily, her behaviours, not partner choice), so let's quickly side step that, and return to the original point of this post:
2. They both start out quite meek and then experience substantial arcs and character growth and
3. They both fall for honourable men of somewhat few words. Daryl initially, mostly, pulses with emotion, Oz does NOT emote as a general rule. But both men are serious thinkers, Oz unhurried and often philosophical in his articulation, while Daryl speaks straight from his heart. They are also both poster guys for how to treat women with respect and honour (again, pre-early Season 4 for our Oz), and both men depart a devotion to love that is quite exceptional. Properly unpacking all of this = another post, another day.
Carol and Willow each display a unique moment of bravery in intimacy early on, something that had previously been out of character for each of them. They are both essentially rejected in these moments, but it's just the beginning of something special. Though Carol's joking harkens to a possible older version of herself, it's one that she never had the chance to fully develop, being forced to bury her playfulness during her abusive marriage. Willow is still so young in this moment, she has endured years of bullying and being cast aside, and being somewhat emotionally neglected by her parents. She is just now starting to open her wings for the first time.
In Innocence, Willow asks Oz, "Do you want to make out with me?"
While in Seed, Carol jokes to Daryl, "Kinda romantic, wanna screw around?"
And Daryl's reaction, as we know, is, "Pfft."
After telling Willow he's not going to kiss her because she clearly still has a thing for Xander, Oz jumps into his breathtaking(Cherokee Rose worthy)ly, beautiful impression of the events, his desires, and assures her he can wait. This is where Willow truly falls for him.
4. They accept their men as they are, not needing them to change. When Oz discovers he is a werewolf, Willow assures him she'd still if he'd still. And as we know, Oz happily stills. And everyone lives happily ever after when the show ends after Season 3.
Carol sees straight through Daryl's prickly defense mechanism exterior. His actions have won her over eternally. She accepts him, walker ears, bouts of rage, and all. "You're every bit as good as them." She tells him. "Every bit."
5. Neither woman wants to be alone. Carol reveals this to Rick in Indifference, sharing one of the reasons she stayed with Ed.
Willow wears her own yearning like a banner throughout the entire series, her early social awkwardness (perfection) inhibiting the romantic connections she is seeking. At least until she catches the eye of one young man in particular, who loves her for it. None of us wants to be alone, but Carol and Willow seem to struggle with that disproportionately in early life and it impacts their decision making, and future trajectories, deeply.
6. Their men are always looking out for them, trying to warn them, get through to them.
Oz reveals his concerns about Willow's increasing foray into the world of magic you didn't encourage her, did you, telling Willow he's afraid that she'll get hurt. He knows what it's like to have power he can't control, and it's not fun.
Though Carol's descent is, IMO, more justified, more understandable following Henry's murder, the potential consequences for her are just as risky. Moreso. Daryl tries, desperately, so many times, to talk her off the ledge, acknowledging that she doesn't care what happens to herself, reminding her that they have a future.
7. In the 2nd last season of each of their shows, Carol and Willow traject into a dark arc after their loved one is murdered, and need their best friend to save them
to pull them back.
There are sooo many differences between this pair too. Willow makes many self serving decisions. It's complicated, and unfortunate. Carol is more selfless, only taking on a path of self destruction, putting others at risk, when met with the unspeakable actions of Alpha. Carol is older though, with greater life experiences. She truly lives in the end times, without magic, without superheroes. Her losses are enormous, her suffering excessive.
Willow's journey was always a difficult one for me to watch, even in retrospect with the passage of time. She wanted to escape many of the quirky and endearing qualities which accompanied an awkward and less self assured version of herself, and that was her right. In order to shed some of the pain of her past, she needed to lose an entire version of herself.
8. Finally, both women have such an enormous capacity to love, a desire to protect their loved ones, against all odds. Often putting themselves at risk to do so. They were both selfless and selfish at times, utterly human, beautiful, and I love them for it.

She wanted to go to Rack because it was an escape from her anxiety, self-doubt, and depression. It stopped her from thinking and had her just basking in a sense of power, control, and bliss. She didn't have to feel the weight of her mistakes for a few hours.
Taking Dawn for a night out at the movies was a reminder that Tara wasn't there, that Buffy was so often away from home, and how both of those were the result of Willow's actions. A solo hang out was a reminder that Willow took Tara's memories, that she yanked Buffy out of heaven, that she hurt the people she loved in a way that totally changed the way her life looks.
So Willow had an urge to pop off Rack's to kill the weirdy feelings inside her. She did it before the movies because she likely thought it would help her be calm/happy enough that her issues wouldn't drag Dawn's night down.
As far as what she did with Amy at the Bronze, I think that the spells were atypical for Willow is the point. Willow wanted to let loose, embrace her magic without worrying about the consequences. Amy was there egging Willow on, going along with it was just another way to escape.
BUFFY: “I just don't understand. I don't understand why you'd go to see somebody like Rack, and I certainly don't understand why you'd drag Dawn into it.”
WILLOW: “I don't know. The magic, I... I thought I had it under control, and then... I didn't.”
BUFFY: “Because of Tara?”
WILLOW: “No. It started before she left. It's why she left.”
BUFFY: “Seemed like things were going so well.”
WILLOW: “It was. But I mean... if you could be... you know, plain old Willow or super Willow, who would you be?”
“Here comes a feeling. I run from the feeling and reach for the drug. Can't sit with this feeling. I'd rather be flying and comfortably numb.” - Alanis Morissette, ‘Numb’
#the desire to escape from your life and the awful thoughts running through your head is what fuels addiction#and it becomes a neverending circle because the addiction causes more problems that you want to escape from#so when the addiction fucks up somebody's life a lot of times that will cause the addict to use more rather than get their shit together#willow was following addict logic when she went to rack with dawn#it doesn't make sense not because the writing's inconsistent#but because addict logic is it's own special type of logic that you need to understand to be able to follow what's going on#willow rosenberg#btvs

is that AYO EDEBIRI? oh, no, that’s BEATRICE "BIRDIE" ROUX, a THIRTY-ONE year old OWNER OF CASA DRAGONES who uses SHE/THEY pronouns. they currently live in QUILPUÉ, and the character they identify with most is PENELOPE GARCIA FROM CRIMINAL MINDS. hopefully they find their own little paradise here in el país de los poetas!
BASICS:
full name: beatrice "birdie" clementine roux nickname(s): birdie (primary), bea, tris age: thirty-one gender: non-binary pronouns: she/they sexuality: if she ever told you she knew she lied (unlabeled queer) date & place of birth: march 6 in malibu, california occupation: owner of casa dragones faceclaim: ayo edebiri piercings: pierced ears – one lobe piercing, two helix piercings, and a conch piercing. traits: outgoing, warm, empathetic, intelligent, caring, independent (overly so), stressed, awkward, dogmatic similar to: penelope garcia (criminal minds), alice cullen (twilight), suki (avatar: the last airbender), aunt cass (big hero six), lorelai gilmore (gilmore girls), willow rosenberg (buffy the vampire slayer), janine teagues (abbott elementary), josie (bottoms) aesthetics: game nights hosted at her place, daybreak shining through the window after a night of gaming, bookshelves of fantasy novels (half are read), various papers strewn about a desk, a warm cup of hot chocolate on a cold night, and a comforting hand on your shoulder.
* warning for mild child neglect
BULLET POINTS:
– born to two young and in love parents in malibu, california, birdie was just what the two needed to complete their little family. as an only child, they have never for anything – even if their parents seemed to love each other more than them. – her childhood is spent traveling – italy, france, greece, nigeria, norway, mexico, nicaragua, even antarctica for a one-off trip, among others. she's homeschooled for most of her life, her parents reasoning that traveling was much better for her development than a typical school education would be. sometimes they question if their parents were right, but they can't do much about it now. – birdie's parents always encouraged her to explore her passions, which was usually something adjacent to fantasy, coding, video games, or whatever anime or tv show had pulled her in at that point. because of this they're wonderfully adept at random skills (see headcanons section). – in spite of this, they felt very isolated and alone growing up. turning to the internet was easy (when she had quick access to it), but her parents were often caught up with each other, & she had no siblings to talk to; plus, frequent moves between countries and cities meant she rarely got to make friends that lasted longer than her stay did. their saving grace was when they would travel back to the states to see their family, & they could talk to their favorite cousin, aviva. – this results in birdie becoming very independent and more-or-less self-sufficient from a young age. their emotions, their desires, their dreams, would all be controlled by her (because then she could never be disappointed). from then on, a forgotten birthday or a canceled lunch date from their parents couldn't mess with them as bad, because they could find solace in being alone. – birdie turns 12 and their parents decide that maybe it would be best for her if they settled down somewhere (they were right, she made way more friends). they decide on quilpe, one of their favorite previous travel destinations. she knows the place like the back of her hand now. – her life falls into place easily from there – when they graduate high school, their parents express a desire to begin traveling again, once again wanting to spread their love around the world. birdie, used to this, decides they'd like to stay in what they now deem their home – she gets a degree in computer science from the university, and quickly figures out those jobs aren't really for them. after much deliberation and more than a few career-anxiety-induced breakdowns, birdie takes out a loan to open up casa dragones (thank fucking god it's a hit or they would probably be back in america with their parents). – when their roommate leaves (the amount of horror stories she could tell...), birdie reaches out to her favorite cousin & says that if she ever needs a spot to go, birdie's got her.
HEADCANONS:
— got bullied kinda when she went back to school . they couldn't handle a bad bitch who liked dnd fr :/ – ran their high school's dnd group, went crazy as a dm. — great at coding & a lot of odd tech things – troubleshoots for the store's computers a lot of the time because those bitches like to shut down a lot (they're old). – loves having friends and having functions at her place because it makes them feel a sense of belonging <3 isolation as a kid went crazy – ^ also part of the reason they opened casa dragones. dnd and other ttrpg games were a big reason they weren't so lonely as a teen/younger adult, & birdie wants to make sure anyone else feeling like that has a place to just be themselves. – favorite video game (currently) is baldur's gate 3 (duh)
WANTED CONNECTIONS:
— regulars at casa dragones perhaps ??? mayhaps even coworkers ! — besties ... she's easy to get along with i think ! – who r u going to let them mentor. who is going to be the person they r so protective of and give wise advice to like a sage with tea in their hands — lit anything else idk. fwb. exs. enemies. frenemies. childhood friends . the world is our oyster guys

PJO: Buffy the Vampire Slayer- the Core Four
It was a struggle to figure out just one god for each character, because they’re all complex and multi-faceted. Once I realized each god would bless or favor a character, it helped things fall into place.
Buffy Summers
Aphrodite has been favoring her since she first rose to popularity at her old high school. It is thanks to Aphrodite that Buffy has amazing style and knows how to accessorize, and that her clothes never get ruined during slayage.
Ares took notice of Buffy when she became a Slayer. He blessed her with street smarts and a unique fighting style, helping her win every battle and giving her impeccable instincts.
Zeus has been on her side ever since she began to lead the Scoobies, and is with her every time she issues orders. Her leadership style isn’t always welcomed by her team, and she’s learned how to live with her mistakes, and when it’s time to pursue the right course even though it makes her unpopular.
Hades was with her the moment she embraced her destiny and walked to her fated death at the hands of the Master. Under his influence, she’s developed her sense of duty and right and wrong, even when it means her death or the death of others.
Willow Rosenberg
With her love of books, her intelligence, and her desire for learning, it’s easy to see Athena’s influence on this lady.
Hecate helped Willow develop her curiosity about magic, and strengthened her natural gifts. With Hecate’s assistance, Willow learned to cast powerful spells, but failed to understand that magic is a sword without a hilt.
Persephone began to notice her when Willow lost her Tara and cheered her on when Willow embraced vengeance. Persephone is both the goddess of spring and the Underworld, and Willow has had to learn to balance her light and dark sides, her desire to do good and her lust for power.
Xander Harris
This boy was ignored for so long by the gods, until he stared down a psychopath who wanted to blow up the high school. When Xander decided that he would be fine with dying, that at least it’d be quiet, Hestia began to favor his true heart and his solid presence, his ability to take action and fight by simply being there. With her help, he was able to gain insight into peoples’ mentality and actions.
Hermes related to his struggle for identity and his desire to find his place in the world. When Xander bounced around from job to job, Hermes helped him try to find meaning and purpose and still stay connected with his friends.
Hephaestus understood Xander perfectly when he declared that he was done being everyone’s butt monkey. Hephaestus has spent eons being the butt of everyone’s jokes, and he respected Xander’s desire to become something more. It is thanks to Hephaestus that Xander found his path of carpentry, building and replacing furniture and knowing how to properly maintain tools.
Rupert Giles
Dionysus favored Giles when he rejected his destiny and embarked on a path of magic, freedom, and parties. Dionysus could understand Giles’s desire to live in the now, and pursue pleasure and fun.
Athena assisted him in returning to college and building a persona of fussiness and tweed. She enabled him in loving books, and has guided him in researching how to best help Buffy with her monster-of-the-week struggles.
Zeus is present every time Giles has to do what others can’t, such as killing Ben or beating up Ethan. It’s never easy to be the last resort, but Giles has learned to rise to the occasion.

Buffy Summer, Xander Harris, Willow Rosenberg
Hi there sweetie, I really hope you like this a lot!
Buffy Summer's MBTI Type, Big Three and Enneagram Type
MBTI Type: ESFP [The Entertainer]
ESFPs are very outgoing and lively people. They thrive in groups and prefer not to spend too much time alone.
They are very observant, focusing closely on the details rather than the grand scheme. They think in terms of the present.
Entertainers tend to prioritize emotion when making decisions, concerning themselves more with how their decisions will affect others. They are empathetic and diplomatic.
They rely more on opportunity than rigid scheduling. They are spontaneous and playful people, with a passion for finding new adventures.
Big Three: Capricorn Sun, Aquarius Moon and Aries Rising
Capricorn Sun: Capricorn is ruled by authoritative Saturn, which is why they tend to work hard toward advancing themselves in earthly matters.
Aquarius Moon: Logic or emotion? Why not both. The Aquarius Moon integrates logic with sentimentality in order to attain a deep understanding of their inner lives.
Aries Rising: Aries ascendants are known as the go-getters of the zodiac. They don’t let anything stand in their way of achieving their personal goals.
Enneagram Type: 7w6 [The Pathfinder]
Basic Fear: Sevens with a six wing have a deeply-rooted fear of missing out. They want to be trustworthy and honor commitments, but they also want to leave room to allow for last-minute opportunities.
Basic Desire: Their basic desire is to feel fulfilled and happy. They express this by searching for joy in every small thing that comes their way.
Pathfinders defend themselves by rationalizing away negative feelings. They unconsciously convince themselves that they are happy, even when they are not.
Xander Harris' MBTI Type, Big Three and Enneagram Type
MBTI Type: ENTP [The Debater]
As extroverts, ENTP types have higher levels of energy and love being around other people. They tend to avoid being alone.
They are more interested in the big picture than on specifics and details. They love solving complex problems and have a great sense of intuition.
Debaters make decisions based on logic. They care less about what makes people happy and more about what’s right.
They dislike schedules and routine, preferring to keep their options open. They love surprise experiences and challenge the need for rules and regulations.
Big Three: Aquarius Sun, Scorpio Moon and Gemini Rising
Aquarius Sun: Aquarius is ruled by Saturn and Uranus, which makes them seek out unique ways to problem-solve and to approach life. They're known to be intellectual and innovative.
Scorpio Moon: Scorpio Moons are known for their brooding nature that exudes passion. Once you win them over, they are loyal and unconditional in matters of love.
Gemini Rising: Gemini risings are quick-witted and fast communicators, always looking for unique ways to express themselves.
Enneagram Type: 6w7 [The Confidant]
Basic Fear: Six wing sevens’ fear losing their support system. This may be expressed through self-deprecating humor, in which they seek affirmation and assurance from other people.
Basic Desire: Their basic desire is to feel safe and supported. They show this by being loving and supportive to others. They honor their commitments and are very loyal to their friends.
Like other sixes, Confidants defend themselves by projecting their feelings, which may lead them to misunderstanding themselves and their relationships.
Willow Rosenberg's MBTI Type, Big Three and Enneagram Type
MBTI Type: INFP [The Mediator]
INFPs value time alone or with very small groups and can often feel exhausted after spending time with large groups of people.
They tend to focus on the big picture and don’t get lost on the smaller details. They have strong intuitions and often follow their gut instincts.
Mediators tend to prioritize emotion and make decisions that feel right. They are very diplomatic and can easily understand others emotions.
They are very flexible in their schedules. INFPs like to keep their options open and tend to be more spontaneous.
Big Three: Pisces Sun, Virgo Moon and Taurus Rising
Pisces Sun: The planetary ruler for Pisces is Jupiter and Neptune, which gives Pisces Suns a sentimental, intuitive, imaginative, and dreamy nature.
Virgo Moon: Virgo Moons use their calm nature to gain deep clarity on matters, filtering questions through their kind, but reasonable, lens.
Taurus Rising: Those with Taurus risings exude grace and sophistication, and handle business with a sweet disposition.
Enneagram Type: 6w5 [The Guardian]
Basic Fear: Sixes with five wings are afraid of losing their guidance and stability. This is often expressed through their skepticism of the world.
Basic Desire: They have a strong desire for security, which they tend to show by protecting themselves and others. They seek close and stable relationships.
Guardians tend to defend themselves by projecting their own feelings onto others, which can often enhance their distrust of the world.

( yandeh sallah. cis woman. she/her. ) ⸺ 🐏 greetings, bighorns ! walking around campus, sporting her treasured but tattered teddy bear we’ve spotted NYLA EVERETT, a twenty four year old who contributes to our thriving community as a DAYCARE WORKER. according to our intel, she's been around the sanctuary for two years and what we know about her, aside from the fact that she doesn't agree with the decision to close the gates, is that she grew up on a farm in north dakota, can play multiple instruments, always does her best to remain optimistic. doesn’t that make them fantastic ? we think it does, and that’s why we appreciate her so much, grateful for what she gives to our community.
i.
full name: nyla grace everett.
age: twenty four.
gender + pronouns: cis woman + she/her.
orientation: demisexual, biromantic.
birthday: june 29th, 1999.
originally from: jamestown, north dakota.
job position: daycare worker.
ii.
weapon of choice: running crossbow.
typical backpack contents: old teddy bear ( the only thing she kept from home, his name is... get ready for this... teddy !! ), first aid kit ( most of it has been used expect for a few bandaids and expired neosporin ) & a few granola bars.
moral alignment: neutral good.
horoscope: cancer sun, pisces moon, libra rising.
inspired by: beth greene, maggie greene & michonne grimes ( twd ), riley abel ( tlou ), eowyn ( lotr ), & willow rosenberg ( btvs ).
iii.
born in jamestown, north dakota, home of the world's largest buffalo ! grew up on her family's farm with her grandparents, parents and older sibling. due to her young age, she was mostly tasked with feeding and watching over the chicken coop and their small barn of animals. her favorite was a black and white spotted horse that she'd named sprinkles as a kid. she was always surrounded by love and spoiled the hell out of due to being the youngest - something nyla honestly loved. while a bit naive and watching the world pass by with rose colored glasses, she approached every situation with hope as well as a helping hand.
they were pretty much out in the middle of nowhere, open land for miles and the nearest store about thirty minutes away. nyla always dreamed about traveling when she got older. she was incredibly hands on and always dove head first in whatever she desired. when her grandpa made a joking comment about how her tiny fingers would never be able to play a guitar like him, she took up the challenge. a guitar became her main instrument, though she fell in love with music. soon they'd gifted her an old piano for her twelfth birthday and the next two birthdays after that were instruments too. from there on out, it was full support from her grandfather ( and the rest of the family ).
she was fourteen when the outbreak happened. her family didn't much keep up with news of the world, apart from the occasional newspaper or a few seconds listening to the wrong radio station. though nyla didn't know what to believe at the time, she didn't want to know anything more - they were safe and away from people. and it worked for her, for the family, for a time... but over the years, spores began to accumulate in one of the old sheds they rarely used. without the knowledge of what they even were, nyla's father ventured into the shed for some tools and was overcome by the spore fumes. he made it back to the house without anyone noticing how different he was - up until he bit his wife.
terrified and almost unsure if to leave them, nyla really only made it out because of her older sibling. the two of them managed to make it out unscathed with nothing but a few small items and the clothes on their backs. they stuck together, nyla convinced that was the only way she could survive. she didn't know much about weapons or defending herself from clickers, but she wasn't alone and was constantly grateful for that. nyla has always loved her older sibling and looked up to them, idolizing them now more than ever.
nyla wanted to stop running. she wanted to meet new people and experience life for once instead of dancing with the dead. though her older sibling seemed opposed, nyla convinced them to consider the university of eastern colorado, the two already headed in that direction. they've both been in the community for about two years at this point and nyla doesn't ever want to leave. she admires what the people in the community have built and for so many reasons, she wants to be apart of that... even despite her lack of skills. she excelled at making the kids laugh when she first arrived and a job looking over them seemed amazing. now she spends most of her afternoons either peeking at the chicken pen or playing a song for the daycare children.
incredibly empathetic + sensitive, can seem a bit naive + unprepared at times. has the best of intentions but doesn't understand that everyone else does not always do the same. would be more willing to give everything she has to someone who is suffering but wouldn't because her sibling would hopefully stop her ! is the embodiment of "if i want the world to be kind, i have to create kindness" but do not think that means she won't stand up for herself ( okay maybe not often ) ... in the right circumstances, she would, but she also knows by now how to stay alive.

CHARACTERIZATION
Saaliha is an odd woman, but that's nothing new. She grew up watching the world through windows — more of a ghost than a girl some days. Her father was a paranoid man who'd lost his wife and was dead-set on ensuring the same would never happen to his only daughter. He kept her trapped in his home for twenty years, only letting her ever go as far as the garden on special occasions. Such a strange upbringing left Saaliha torn between feeling like a homebody and longing to escape. The scars that litter her body are reminders of how dangerous it can be when she asks for too much, acting upon reckless desires, but she does her best to cover them up and ignore them. Now that she's gotten a taste of true freedom, she'll never go back.
HEADCANONS
Growing up in such an isolated setting meant that Saaliha's social skills were lacking, to say the least. The few opportunities she had to interact with other children her age, she found herself unable to connect. There was little overlap in her life and their's that she could relate to. Since her escape she's gotten plenty of experience socializing, though there are still some little quirks she can't quite rid herself of.
All of her clothes are either thrifted or pieces she made herself - the latter are usually easy to pick out from the rest for their distinctive patchwork. Growing up, her father only got her new clothing once she'd outgrown the old, so she was forced to sew her own garments if she wanted anything but the drab things he brought home. All she could get her hands on were scraps of fabric from around the house (old curtains and tablecloths, spare bedsheets he wouldn't miss, etc.), but she made it work. What started as a childhood necessity quickly turned into a hobby she genuinely loved. Making her own clothing in a house where everything, even Saaliha herself, belonged to her father, wearing something not given by him felt like a small freedom. A much needed sense of ownership.
She can cook well and often ends up preparing meals for Jack (he can get so focused on his work he forgets to eat if she doesn't remind him!), but prefers baking. It's not uncommon to walk into the kitchen and see a tray of freshly made cookies or muffins. Autumnal flavors/spices are her favorite.
Dr. Finkelstein told her that her mother was a witch, but Saaliha doesn't seem to have inherited any of her power. She does, however, practice what she calls "simple magic." Small-scale practices that many humans partake in such as reading tarot cards and tea leaves or charging crystals under a full moon. The classification of Wiccan would likely fit her best.
When she began looking for a job years ago, her first thought was to do something related to fashion since she'd been making her own clothes for so long. However, it's something very personal to her and she realized that working as a seamstress for others wouldn't feel the same. Getting into the medical field was the next logical solution, since her father had instilled an extensive knowledge of medicine in her. Sometimes she fears that going down this path could lead to her ending up like him, but she genuinely likes what she does. Jack may or may not have helped fudge her resume a bit.

The Rules: tag (5) people you want to know better and or catch up with, then answer the following:
Four ships:
rhaenyra targaryen/alicent hightower. actual otp idc they rot my brain with the kind of intensity i haven't felt since i was twelve years old. kinda wish i could actually pronounce their shipname though every time i try and say it i just land on "renaissance"
willow rosenberg/tara maclay. they are in fact the intensity that rotted my brain when i was twelve years old
cassandra/andromache (yes that would be the trojan prophetess and her "archetype of the dutiful woman" sister-in-law). i am the only person who ships this, i only ship them because of a throwaway line from a middlegrade retelling of cassandra's shit life about her being vaguely annoyed by andromache and i have thought about them every day for the past four years. i am absolutely in the wrong for this and i have no desire to be right.
cersei lannister/margaery tyrell. i have not watched got in years, but this was a lane i was willing to die on when i was 13, and i was in rarepair HELL. in many ways i like to think of them as foreshadowing the rhaenicent truthing we're seeing now, and i like to think of all the rhaenicent content as my positive karma for my unwavering devotion to my silly silly adolescent ship
Last song: "missus piano" by rio romeo!
Currently reading: very offensive of you to assume i can read smh. uhh last book i finished was king lear.
i currently have just about 30 books i need to read for my degree, including a chapter called "criticism and attachment in the neoliberal university" by mir ali hosseini, (which is a very disheartening essay about the crisis in the practice of humanities/literary studies at a university level. the prose is engaging but it's not one of these critical essays that has artistic value in its own right (think "the death of the author", "visual pleasure and narrative cinema", "the laugh of the medusa", eve kosofsky sedgwick, &c) and frankly it does not make enough of a contribution to literary discourse to warrant reading for anyone outside of The Academy (tm))
Last movie: the princess and the frog :D
Craving: some kind of juice. orange or pineapple or something
tagging: @book--wyrm @fifteen-flowers @queenofthewaste @wakesirens @sovesmeleys (absolultely no pressure to any of you, it's all in good fun!!)

In "Phases," the fifteenth episode of the second season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the series delves into the mythology of werewolves while further exploring the complexities of relationships among its characters. Aired in 1998, this episode remains a pivotal moment in the show's narrative, blending supernatural elements with personal struggles and emotional growth.
The episode centers around the arrival of a werewolf in Sunnydale, sparking fear and concern among the residents. Buffy Summers, the titular character and vampire slayer, finds herself confronting not only the physical threat posed by the werewolf but also the emotional turmoil it brings to her friend, Oz.
Oz, played by Seth Green, is revealed to be the werewolf in question. Known for his calm demeanor and witty remarks, Oz's struggle with lycanthropy (werewolf transformation) introduces a new layer of vulnerability to his character. His condition not only endangers those around him during the full moon but also challenges his relationship with Willow Rosenberg, portrayed by Alyson Hannigan.
Meanwhile, tensions rise as Buffy faces off against another werewolf hunter, Cain, who arrives in town determined to kill the creature. His aggressive methods clash with Buffy's desire to find a more humane solution, highlighting her moral compass and dedication to protecting both humans and supernatural beings alike.
The episode skillfully intertwines action with introspection, as characters like Xander Harris and Cordelia Chase navigate their own romantic entanglements amidst the chaos. Cordelia's character development, in particular, begins to evolve beyond her initial stereotype of a shallow popular girl, showing glimpses of deeper emotions and concerns.
"Phases" not only expands the supernatural lore of Buffy the Vampire Slayer but also deepens the audience's understanding of the characters' inner struggles and evolving relationships. It exemplifies the series' ability to blend monster-of-the-week stories with ongoing character development, maintaining its unique blend of horror, humor, and heart throughout the season.

THE MAGICIAN [WILLOW ROSENBERG]
The Magician draws your attention to your goals: Are they in line with your higher self? Are you using your resources, skills, and abilities for good? If so, you will manifest exactly what you desire- and if not, ehhhh. You'll make something happen, but you might not like how it turns out.
Uptight: Settled in her powers, Willow has achieved a perfect balance of knowing when to use magic and when to do things the old-fashioned way. As the Magician, she advises that you examine your motives before taking any action. It's not enough to align yourself to your goals, you also must conduct yourself mindfully.
Reversed: Like Wilow, you may be feeling like you've reached your Wiccan plateau, so to speak. Have you been questioning whether your potential is just that? Have you been wondering if your efforts are being ignored? Spend some time figuring out what's holding you back and then make a plan to banish it.

Now that I think about it:
It really is striking given everything with that one episode that there's no plotline where Tara accidentally kills off her love interest with that blindness spell early in Season 5 and Glory steamrolls everyone because the big gun went missing. It's basically one of this 'so this is how we done fucked up, don't do that shit' storylines that's seemingly begging to be written and.....nobody actually has. It'd be a perfect knife twist and it's not like the Scoobies would let Tara just leave with her obviously evil family even after that because they'd not want to lose someone ELSE after it.
So what does happen if they have to go through the Glory arc but there's no Willow (especially twistedly funny given later seasons if the Powers That Be cough her up again at the start of the equivalent of Season 6)? Would the butterfly effect mean she'd even brain-suck Tara, which was a pretty clear bit of her power boost that made her as formidable? If that never happens and they just use the hammer sooner, does anyone actually have to die?
I can also see if the PTB did decide 'oh wait, no, this one DOES have a destiny and she needs to get on with it' that a resurrected Willow after all that would be in the usual situation most of the 'Tara comes back' fics go of having entirely valid trust issues and having the 'wait HOW much time happened oh holy God WHAT is Glory and wow' reactions to a normal year on the Hellmouth.
Canon-wise Willow's an unkillable, fanfic exists precisely to do what canon wouldn't. And ultimately Tara was, after all, meant to be the replacement goldfish for Willow's old niche, so one can very easily see the Scoobies acting at a meta-level like that and creating something of the same dysfunction from a different route because she is very much NOT Willow in any of the ways that define her. She has a rigidly defined sense of ethics, she gets a backbone that has a more consistent sense of 'happens to me bad, happens to you because I'm traumatized nobody ever remembers it for the rest of anything ever'.
It would also be a suitably ironic knife twist given the 'big gun' thing that the very expectations here that set up the ultimate Dark Lord Rosenberg thing never happening lead to the Gang winning because Buffy beats the shit out of Glory with a magic hammer when she never gets her mitts on Tara because there's no Willow for her to argue with that one day and the butterfly effects are big, she never dies....and then the PTB have Willow turn right back up in the Magic shop alive, well, and utterly ocnfused at the end of the equivalent of that season going "What the Hell was that."
I would admittedly have the Dark Willow thing happen anyway as a result of overcompensating for realizing she was killed as result of relying on someone else's wisdom with magic and it's more Dark Lord Rosenberg, as I mentioned, rather than its canon aspect and Tara gets to be the replacement Willow and it does not spark joy while Willow in turn quite reasonably has major trust and communication issues and doubles and triples down on increasingly powerful magic sans magic crack analogy until she's full-scale Dark Phoenix and people belatedly have the 'oh shit we probably should have tried talking before now' reaction.
This may well end up the one other Buffyverse fic I write, though I'd basically breeze through the rest of Season 5 in the first chapter from Tara's POV and then at the tail end Willow comes back and the hilarity ensues.
Then again it's also equally possible for Willow to simply go 'nah, fuck magic, magic killed me, y'all already got a witch, computers it is' and then the Hellmouth Hellmouths and her destiny won't be denied and the paranoia of living on the place makes her take the same path while actually struggling against it when she gets a Monkey's Paw version of her own desire to be the big damn hero, but to be able to do that she has to be able to reach the power to do so and since she is who she is, it's impossible to have the power to abruptly start being capable of making reality do what you want without it going to her head.
And given that she did at least seem to be easily replaceable (with Willow and Tara equally unreliable narrators and the truth not quite matching up with what either of them think here and the two narrative POVs here) Dark Lord Rosenberg gets to be as much a case of venting that she in a sense was the replaceable sidekick on a television show and not a main character.
Almost every other canon possibility here has done this and having 'the person I love cannot see the demon for who she is' and then 'wait, she died, I didn't mean that' because the magic misfires a little harder in a laser-guided fashion and having Tara meet her intended niche a little harder than otherwise is....surprisingly under-used.
#willow rosenberg#tara maclay#buffyverse fanfic#ideas to be written#basically 'Tara does an oopsie and has to fill someone else's shoes and realizes how unpleasant that actually is'#Willow comes back at the start of Season 6 because the PTB need her to resurrect magic and she's golden until she does#this sparks even less joy as there WAS an intended resurrection spell and it failed because she was already alive#and thus everything turns into an equally glorious trainwreck from a completely opposite angle#meanwhile Tara's basically haunted with guilt as she was never a demon but boy did she FUBAR that one spell#also leads to an inversion of usual dynamics because she *really* doesn't do damage control well#and Willow might either be very interested or very indifferent or deciding to ring up Oz and fuck off from Sunnydale entirely#if she was an actual human instead of a character it'd be the third I think#but since she's a character in a story and indifference is more wounding than malice indifference it is#I freely admit that season 9 leaves me considering the irony that Willow gets to be the chosen one once#and utterly hates it and everything about it and this is where her arc actually ends up#why does she hate it when it actually gets to be her for a change?#LBR ol' girl didn't do well with substituting for being the person driving events#she would handle being the one that actually has to do it by repeatedly trying to skip out on destiny#the irony would not be lost on her in the bigger picture but at the time Buffy would probably be 'so what's the big deal here'

I shouldn’t compare every supernatural/fantasy show about vampires or involving vampires to Buffy but I can’t help it. It’s the staple. THE vampire show. And even though they didn’t get everything right and it doesn’t hold up too well in this day and age, the mark that show left is still hard to match even to this day and practically impossible to beat. However, I do think ‘Wynonna Earp’ achieved that feat in some places. Personal preference really because I always prefer the morally grey route in supernatural/fantasy storytelling and ‘BtVS’ unfortunately wasn’t that due to the whole “demon possession” lore. Still grey characters though. I mean Willow Rosenberg alone fulfilled that desire. She was a great morally grey character in my opinion.
Still… I do have a habit of comparing everything I watch either to Xena or Buffy and I really should try to broaden my horizons a bit as far as analyzing supernatural/fantasy TV art/entertainment media.
