They reduce a very fun character who yeah, is bored with life and can never find a challenge, shit like that, to nothing but a puddle of.. severe moping & depression. Villain saitamas are usually conceived to be super stoic and "emotionless" OR way too emotional and like.. it's never the perfect balance? and they'll also take his depression n shit and crank that up to 50 to justify that and i just...???? saitama, in his normal canon, is a bit unmotivated. That much i'll admit. he lost it ages ago when he realized he was too strong, we all know the story. And he does have depression, that much is hard to argue against. But no matter what, the guy has always swore to himself to be a hero and to protect those who can't protect themselves. He's wise beyond his years in some cases, he gives so much literally life changing advice from the heart that are all incredibly good lessons to learn, he thinks he's empty but really he's one of the most expressive, and dare i say caring characters of the show. IF he knows the character in question anyways. How could you make a saitama a villain and maintain all those and more but tarnish it into just... depression overload? sorry this is a bit poorly articulated but it's all just POURING out right now. i get that aus and evil aus are supposed to see him in a new light but like....... even then, would it REALLY be so hard to keep his characterization without flanderizing his depression, his expressiveness, or otherwise? His motivations are so much more than just "a hero for fun" despite how much he calls himself as such.. but most villainous saitama iterations don't seem to understand that concept. They literally have him commit villainy for fun, with hardly any other justifications. But you need a good justification, a good reason for what caused him to be a villain in the first place. And I don’t think that aspect should change. But I think as time goes on, it’d be neat to see him slowly descend into villainy by realizing how shitty the world can be, that you can’t always save everyone no matter how hard you try. That there’s so much corruption that you can’t even really do much about it than just hope for the best. And his godlike strength would be key into his villainy; he tries to use it to save people, to defeat monsters. But all that happens is that people begin to call him a monster; his strength is recognized properly, but not in the way saitama’s always wanted. no, his strength is percieved as a THREAT. as something DANGEROUS and the citizens of.. whatever supercontinent they’re on are totally freaked out by it. He’s declared a threat by the hero association and he oh so desperately tries to prove he’s no threat. They’ve got heroes chasing him left and right because of this; so many people have reported him as a villain when he accidentally used his strength that the public truly BELIEVES he’s a villain. But I also feel like he wouldn’t really know genos in this verse because of what happens; nobody was there to stop the “GIVE IT UP” moment when he tried to be a hero one last time, saving everyone from the meteor. And with nobody to stop him, that’s just what he does. He gives it up. Heroism and all. Why bother being a hero when everyone makes you out to be the bad guy? When you’re declared national enemy number one? And when you can’t even use your power (accident or not) and you’re labelled an enemy for doing so, everyone you tried so hard to save terrified of you? That’s the breaking point for Saitama in my villain au. Might as well give them what they’ve wanted all along. Saitama has nobody to turn to; he’d been cut off from his parents a long time ago, and since Genos isn’t there with him and the whole public considers him a terrorist.. He becomes the villain they made him out to be.

[ CHARACTER STUDY; SAITAMA & HEROISM ]
SO I’ve got a lot of feelings on how Saitama’s dreams of being a hero ended up, so... yeehaw, fellas. Get ready for a BIG OL JUMBLE OF THOUGHTS.
So first off. Let’s talk hero-in-training Saitama. Now I know in canon that he shows little to no actual sustained injuries from fighting, but like... he wasn’t indestructable from the get go. Before he got his bizarre, god-like invincible body, he was just a guy who thought of himself as weak and utterly useless. Even through training and serious injuries, he’d just laugh it off and say it was nothing. Even though he would get INTERNAL BLEEDING and so many heavy injuries, he still saved people with a smile.. all bc he wanted to. Of course, that all changed since his training, but.. here’s all my thoughts in a collective ramble.
could you imagine how much it'd suck to be saitama? imagine wishing your entire life you could be a hero. you knew it was childish, but you still clung onto that dream. youre forced to give it up and when you do, life becomes a living hell for you. you grow to inability to keep a job (though i have my own explanation and backstory about this in my about....) and when you get the chance to be a hero a fiery passion ignites in you.you've been weak and a miserable excuse of a person, in your own eyes, for your entire life up until this point. you train vigourously, become the hero you want to be NOT because of selfish reasons, just because you want toyou finally get to be the strongest in the universe, and when you finally, finally do, and you still just. wanna be a hero because there needs to be non selfish heroes. everyone. fucking. hates you.
you're treated with no respect, you're booed almost to the point of quitting heroism., everyone thinks you're a fucking joke and calls you a joke name of Caped Baldy / Bald Cape to rub salt in the wounds. He was SO fucking excited when he found out he could register to be a licensed hero, but all the H.A. gave him was corruption, negligence, and a lot of “newbie crushing” ASSHOLES. They all seem to think of Saitama as someone who can be walked over, or easily crushed; but of course, Saitama doesn’t let this really get to him.
HE JUST WANTED SOMEONE. ANYONE. TO APPRECIATE WHAT HE WAS DOING FOR THE PEOPLE OUT THERE! but nobody ever believes him, nodody ever treats him kind except genos and MAYBE fubuki & bangeveryone tells him to give up being a hero because he's shit at it, because he SAVED THEIR LIVES but it cost the city. no lives were even lost that day when the meteor struck, and seeing how much everyone took him for granted, really hurt him. he got so worked up that he just about went FERAL (and only seeing genos would calm him) because they were blaming him for saving their lives instead of their fucking new cars.
it just burns my biscuits that so many people take saitama as a joke, because HE'S not the part that's supposed to be a joke. NO. IT'S HIS POWERS THAT'S THE JOKE! he's a guy with serious depression just trying to do what's right. he doesn't want flashy heroics, he doesn't want fanclubs or demand them, he even says he doesn't need fans. he just wants a little appreciation for all the times he's saved the earths ass, but the H.A. has to come in and take all the credit from him.
everyone calls him a fraud and chants that he's a fake during deep sea king. that also really stung him deep down, i think, because here's all these S CLASS HEROES who were taken down with ease and nobody can defeat him but saitama. saitama defeats him, everyone boos. could he have gotten mad and defensive? yes. did he? absolutely not! he selflessly started going "uh... uh, YEA. HAHA. THAT'S RIGHT. IM JUST A BIG FAT FAKE TAKING THE CREDIT. IT WAS SO WEAK I BEAT IT IN ONE PUNCH."
the crowd starts hating him even MOREbut only mumen knows he's a liar. that he really was that strong.saitama could be molded into a total dickbag from all thisbut what i admire most .. and love most about him.. is that he DIDN'T.instead he chooses, time and time again, to let the people hate him. to let others take the credit. to do what the people think.if it makes them feel safer, so be it; even if it hurts, he doesn't care. he just wants to be a hero. and while everyone's always like "OHH MUMEN'S MORE HEROIC THAN SAITAMA BECAUSE SAITAMA HAS NO PASSION" i get MAD!!!
that's a BLATANT LIE!! both are equally passionate for justice, but have yoU MET SAITAMA??he is the kind of guy who has LITERALLY jumped in front of cars to save people.if he could, he'd lay his life on the line for otherseven if the world hates him, he still keeps going, even if it's tough. he's lost his ENTHUSIASM but his passion for justice is NOT nonexistent like so many comparing him to mumen say\mumen is just more DRIVEN.
saitama has learned the hard way that blind optimisim can't get you everywhere. the world's basically spit and pissed on him and told em "FUCK YOU" but even so.. even so he still goes out of his way to be as heroic as he can. he acts like he doesn't care, but he's the same man who saved a man from comitting suicide. he's got a weakness for children because he can't stand to see them upset so he does anything to calm them down/save them.
he saves the life of so many others even if they're telling him he's a fraud. he gave up his hero credit to the cops, who evryone started to think of as jokes thanks to the existence of heroes (even dressed up as one and pretended he was a cop who beat a monster).there's so much more i could list off but just because he doesn't have that fiery enthusiam outwardly showing does NOT mean it's not there.
if he wasn’t so passionate for justice, WHY was he so starry eyed at the idea of being a pro hero? WHY did he do vigilante work for those 3 years? WHY does he want to help avenge Genos? WHY would he go out of his way to save anyone? WHY does he care about saving other people, ESPECIALLY kids?? It’s not easy to be a hero. It really isn’t. And yet Saitama does all these things because he’s got such strong morals, he just wants to help people. He never expects anything in return, ever. He can’t stand taking people’s money, even if it’d help him out, which we know from the fact that genos said he’d pay rent, but was confirmed he never let Genos pay.
despite the world being against him he still is a hero. he stopped completely reporting his actions to the H.A. too, and the only reason he even moves up anymore is bc other ppl report his heroic actions.
Anyways, I don’t really think this could count as a true character study? but then again, all my character rambles about him go under these kinds of things. anyways, i leave you with the set of screenshots i think about the most.
#⌠character study; jonesy rambles⌡#SORRY IT'S MOSTLY ME GOING OFF ABOUT H.A....#BUT SAITAMA ... DOESN'T DESERVE THUIS#i just#have so many feelings#also this is copy pasted from discord#i didn't feel like rewriting it#but i might later#anyways here's wonderwall

SUMMARY
SCENE 1
Jonesy and Jojo have just done something illegal. Set them up as callous, seemingly criminals trying to lay low.
Something illegal went down in a McDonalds that somehow resulted in Jonesy getting money and Jojo’s hand getting scratched up.
SCENE 2
After a brief assessment of the situation, Jonesy and Jojo realize they’re lost in a part of town they don’t recognize. Jonesy is stressed, Jojo not so much. Their goal: get back to familiar ground without getting caught.
SCENE 3
Jonesy and Jojo continue searching while Jonesy frustratedly rambles about the area. When he recognizes something familiar, their conversation turns to what they actually did. It was actually a dumb accident rather than some kind of intentional robbing. (Maybe include a dramatic flashback to the incident) They loosen up and joke around, relieved that Jonesy knows the way home.
SCENE 4
Their goofing around gets so loud a cop shows up (the climax). They flee again thinking their dumb accident caught up to them, but the guy's actually just there for a noise complaint.
--
The point of the film is a little character study on their relationship/friendships in general where the two parties care about each other but insult each other constantly.
The takeaway is that theyre Slightly less bad than you thought they were. And also hopefully funny to listen to.
The theme revolves around chaotic young adulthoods and a little bit of delinquency.

[ CHARACTER STUDY; SAITAMA & GENOS ]
THE FOLLOWING ANALYSIS CAN GO EITHER PLATONICALLY VIEWED OR ROMANTICALLY FOR THE DUO. i don’t care how you interpret it. go nuts! just know this is long as fuck.
I’m so GLAD Genos and Saitama have each other now. Without each other,,, genos would be wrecklessly trying to push himself to the point of near death and saitama would be wallowing in his own depression but now saitama has something to look forward to talking wise and genos has someone who cares so much about his well-being that he refuses to let him try and basically kill himself like the way he used to. now genos has someone who actually worries if he'll make it through a fight instead of just trying to self destruct at everything he just about loses to. he has been given a safer and more realistic goal to look forward to and he's become more relaxed. saitama's been able to be more expressive since he's constantly with genos, and he doesn't feel as empty because he feels like he has a reason to live now. it's clear that when they're apart saitama worries endlessly for genos (and once worries that something horrific would happen to genos if he were by himself) but without genos around he immediately goes back to his old, lonely ways and feels so unbearably sad and lonely that even king's like "shit man. u ok". and guess what? the moment he sees genos is safe and not dead or hanging on by a string, he’s IMMEDIATELY far happier and even visibly cheers up, and king’s like “WOAH you look awfully refreshed” and saitama’s like “yeah dude my head’s suddenly clear” and if that isn’t love then i don’t know what is.
Of course kuseno cares if genos almost dies, but the thing is, kuseno seems to be just as bent on finding that cyborg as genos is. I feel like... though kuseno still cares for genos PERIOD, he seems to be pretty iffy on the fact that genos has been given more realistic goals to shoot for by saitama and even comments "you're seriously trying to aim for be s rank 1? is that what your master told you to do? what happened to getting vengence against the mad cyborg? where's your passion for that?" and genos is just. shocked and doesn't even reply for a moment and he's like "uh.. i mean.. OF COURSE i still want vengence but i gotta do what sensei wants.." etcBut I do think kuseno notes that this is for the better anyways, iffy feelings or not, because at least genos isn't basiclaly dragging himself in every single week and in tatters, because hell, while genos is strong even when saitama and him first met what was his solution to battles he couldn't win, and even sometimes now? use my core, self destruct, im not worthy of defeating the borg if im losing to this, time to end it, sorry dr kuseno, family, master etc Now Saitama steps in, and I was just REMINDED OF THIS SCENE IN PARTICULAR but like the arc where saitama knocks out genos in the middle of him and sonic’s fight? He was concerned for genos and as someone who rarely expresses concern or care for others, don't you think it's very telling that he stepped in on his own volition to make sure genos didn't get hurt to beat sonic's ass?even sonic comments "are you trying to protect him?" and saitama's like "yeah, of course" and he's clearly getting serious because he doesn't want genos hurt. hell, he even basically ghosted fubuki the moment he saw genos and sonic fighting! saitama really does worry a lot for genos and some of the things he worries about are really concerning.. but this isn't the first time he's been pretty scared for genos. remember the deep sea king fight? he was afraid genos bit the dust there for a it and even visibly relaxes when he finds out genos is okay and he says "Don't ever scare me like that again!" As for the saitama part of things, it's not hard to see the difference of before genos vs after genos. Genos brought color to his world and gave him company, and it's what he claims he never wanted but it's clear how much it helped him. I feel like if it weren't for genos, saitama would be just as shelled up if not more than he used to be -- he didn't really have much of anything to do and it's obvious he was starting to get bored of... life, to put it lightly. But when genos basically asserts himself into his life? he starts to feel again. he's not moping all the time, he has somebody to talk to instead of harmfully isolating himself. he's the kind of guy who was alone with his thoughts for too long -- we get glimpses of it every now and them, but we can clearly tell that he's got a lot of sad emotional baggage. it all stems from being too strong, ofc. but, still, he is DEEPLY troubled by it and life basically lost all meaning for him. any farther and i feel like he would've legitimately felt like existing was useless, though with a body like his i highly doubt he could take... action. And the longer he's alone with his thoughts, the worse he gets, and he just becomes so... mopey. forgive me if i sound repetitive, but like!! genos comes in, and all of that is GONE within a few days. He must've spilled about how lonely he felt to genos at some point before he started getting closer to him -- based on the canon info where saitama actually got genos to cry uncontrollably when he told him how lonely he felt which had to have been some serious shit because. genos does NOT cry. with someone else to keep him away from his thoughts, he started to lighten up. at the beginning of the series it's safe to say he was pretty damn standoffish -- but now? now he's actually attempting to socialize with other people, he actually hangs out with more people whether he wants to admit it or not. He's become a bit softer (not much) to those he doesn't know, and DEFINITELY more expressive -- ESPECIALLY AROUND genos. he's become more thoughtful -- he doesn't mope about his powers much anymore, he does anything and everything with genos because he can talk about it and lose himself in the moment. At least, that's what i like to think. and all around... he's found a new passion for life. the dude isn't just wandering around aimlessly now, he's hanging out with genos and he's living to protect the citizens and genos after he moved in. Yeah, he's always gonna have a strong moral compass and save people, but the joy and the meaning of such actions fall to black and white until genos shows up again. now he's got a reason to keep fighting. he has a reason to get out of bed and feel like his strength means something -- because he can use it to protect others and protect genos even if nobody but genos is thankful of it. As much as he detests the attention he gets from Genos -- think about it, don't you think it helps to have someone think you're not totally useless? That your work does mean something to at least one person even if the world basically gives you the finger? Because I don't think saitama realizes it, but Genos is the one thing keeping him going in the hero job. I honestly think he would have quit when everyone chanted at him to give it up after destroying that meteor if it wasn't for genos -- he saved everyone's lives, and genos was the only one to see it. genos is the one that gets him to calm down and realize that if they don't care, that doesn't matter -- he'd always be there for saitama And anyways, the gist of all this goes back to my first point -- it's amazing that they have each other now, because imagine all the development and all the ways they've been improving just never existing. Without Saitama, genos would still be the same wreckless kid trying to throw himself without thought into wreckless battles. Saitama has helped him heed himself on that, and to relax and stop taking everything so seriously. Genos still takes some things too literally., like the 10-20 word limit when talking to saitama, but I feel like half the time, Saitama couldn't really care less. Without Genos, Saitama would be the same old sad sack of hero he used to be, holed up and his depression worsening because he hardly ever leaves the apartment but for what? Sales? Manga? Sometimes Monsters if he happens to run into them? He doesn't do much of anything and it took a heavy toll on his mental health, but now Genos is there to get him out, to possibly even comfort him or just support him if he needs it. He gets Saitama out of the house, involved ina lot of other activities, and when Genos isn't around, Saitama... doesn't fare too well at all. //COUGHS LOUDLY@ THE MANGA REFERENCED EARLIER (( and personally, despite saitama coming off as almost always :^| i feel like the poor guy really really overthinks things. you may think there's nothing going on in there, but his thoughts really are dangerous for him to be alone with )) Romance or not, there’s no denying this. Like, I DARE anyone to try to say they would be good w/o each other -- I feel like so much of the fandom takes this kinda.. not seriously? It’s not really meant as a dig or anything, but a lot of ppl take what they have for granted..
Saitama just wants to be carefree and he’s still very much lax, and even though he knows he’s a shitty teacher, I think that he does a great job of teaching genos that there’s more to life than REVENGE, SELF DESTRUCTION, and FIGHTING. He teaches him to enjoy the little things in life, and Genos rejuvenates his passion for heroism. I feel like Genos wants to be strong physically and that’s why he so heavily admires Saitama, too, but that’s a bit off topic. It’s something Saitama’s been missing for a long time, and something Genos never had -- he just wants Genos to feel as human as possible, and I feel like he tries all too hard to get Saitama to open up as well. Genos may not be the best at therapy or whatever, but seeing as he’s the person Saitama is closest to, he definitely does want Saitama to feel like he’s never alone and I just. Cannot stress how IMPORTANT THIS IS. Saitama’s got a history of bottling everything up and avoiding confrontation, But Genos? The cyborg wears his heart on his SLEEVE, even if he probably wouldn’t view it that way himself. Thanks to him, Saitama can be himself. He doesn’t have to hide away what he really acts like -- not that he cared much for it anyways -- but around genos he can be.. childish. He can be difficult. He can be whatever he wants, and no matter what, Genos will be there to support him. And I really, really admire that. ONE & Murata did them the best justice i’ve ever seenwith a relationship like theirs. And if there was ever anyone to get romantic with for them -- not even as a shipper, but from a story pov -- saigenos makes so much more sense. They bring out the BEST in each other, and they live together, and... well,, THIS post sums up all my feelings on the matter.
Genos wants to help Saitama in whatever way he can. Saitama wants to make sure Genos lives out his life like any normal person would. You get the gist?
sO. IN CONCLUSION, Saitama and genos may not realize it.... but they definitely need each other. Them meeting was for the best of both of their lives -- and without each other there's no way in HELL they'd be doing as good as they are now.

And not to mention all the content out there depicting saitama acting in abusive ways...
Also, making his black and red off the bat is a cheap move. Black and red does not necessarily equate evil, and to default to that instead of leaving him as the colorful guy he is is just wrong to his character. He could be JUST as intimidating if not more by simply moving around his colors; red suit, with either yellow cape & white gloves/boots OR red suit with white cape and yellow boots. Villains can be colorful, and saitama isn’t an outwardly edgy guy. I think if anyone took a step back and tried to figure which aspects of him to twist into villainy he’d be good as one, but until then, i simply can’t understand the appeal of the current widely accepted villain egg. [ CHARACTER STUDY; SAITAMA & ADHD ]
Hey all, I don’t really feel like writing this in paragraph style but I still wanted to post this. I’ve been reading through the manga and I’ll go back and link panels later, but I did find some evidence to back up my ADHD saitama hc.
saitama is adhd culture because;
- can't focus for jack shit if it’s for long periods of times UNLESS he’s interested in some subject.
- doesn't have patience to listen for long conversations & mind begins to wander after like one minute. if he's bored he'll be thinking about literally anything else and won't pay attention to what you say.
- Like that time the snake dude tried to lecture him and then the entire time he spaced out and played with his gum til they got kicked out. upon remeeting him he remembered NOTHING from the lecture
- sb: says something longwinded ; saitama, who zones out and shakes his leg if he’s zoning out: “what’d you say i wasn’t paying attention” / “make it short!”
- has a tendency to hyperfixate & hyperfocus on a lot of shit, like training EXCESSIVELY to become a hero, couponing & sales, looking for hero work (any at all), etc.
- often forgets a lot of tasks, like taking the garbage out, doing his homework and turning it in, etc. and PROCRASTINATION in doing other kinds of work. he can do one HELL of a good job if he actually gives a shit abt what he’s working on, though.
- likes to avoid tasks of ongoing mental effort and prefers to read nothing but manga in his free time. if you tell him to take a written test he will not do well on it because he’ll keep getting distracted.
- Has a bit of a problem regulating his emotions, which can lead to him being pretty blunt or rude sounding when he doesn’t mean to.
- Saitama’s very impulsive and restless. I think we all been knew that. Hell, he decided to be a HERO on an impulse. he gets restless if he doesn’t do anything for an unidentified period of time, too.
- i know it SOUNDS cliche, but this part is 100 percent true; if you distract saitama, he will forget whatever he was talking about and go off on whatever you try to change the topic to.
- He has a poor work ethic because he can get easily distracted, and has trouble keeping a job for a long period of time. as a hero he basically has a ton of free time, especially because nobody respects him enough to call him into his hero duties. As a result, this also goes hand in hand with his financial issues. He can’t keep a job or focus enough, and he was fired a bunch of times before he started hero work, and I think that’s because ADHD was interfering. I legitimately don’t think he’s dumb; i think he has trouble applying himself is all, really.
- If he’s uninterested in whatever he’s doing, don’t expect him to put in any effort into a conversation or otherwise.
- He’s VERY disorganized, and before his apartment was destroyed his house was a big clutter til Genos came along. I do believe he even comments “I didn’t have time to clean up before you came” when Genos first arrives.
- Very bad at maintaining relationships and friendships. He’s lucky he’s got what he does and initially, hardly knew how to deal with Genos and worried he would fuck up. This leads me to believe he’d been a lone wolf for a NUMBER of reasons throughout his entire life.
- Low self esteem. This one’s just a given. Though i feel it’s more like “I’ll never NOT be a nobody and that shit’s fucked” ya know? He’s just. really negative when he talks about himself. Despite this, he doesn’t care what OTHERS think, just what he thinks of himself.
- Has a tendency to mostly do work and shit ONLY if it’s rewarding, i.e. playing a game for free food or whatever because he wants to BE rewarded for work he does. Whether he recognizes this conciously or not, I don’t know.
- probably more but that's all i can think of right now.
As an ADHD person, all these signs just hit so close to home. Of course, my adhd is much more on the severe side of the adhd spectrum, but, i don’t think he has it SEVERELY. I think it’s pretty moderate. It’s definitely enough to impact his life, though. And if you wanna read through the symptoms of ADHD in adults yourself, here you go! You’d be surprised how much of it all lines up with Saitama. I’m actually kinda surprised myself!
#⌠character study; jonesy rambles⌡#as an adhd person this happens a Lot to me to be honest#so i feel like all these signs saitama shows are absolutely pointing to adhd#nobody can convince me otherwise

[ CHARACTER STUDY; SAITAMA & GENOS ]
THE FOLLOWING ANALYSIS CAN GO EITHER PLATONICALLY VIEWED OR ROMANTICALLY FOR THE DUO. i don’t care how you interpret it. go nuts! just know this is long as fuck. This is reposted with some edits from my archived blog.
I’m so GLAD Genos and Saitama have each other now. Without each other,,, genos would be wrecklessly trying to push himself to the point of near death and saitama would be wallowing in his own depression but now saitama has something to look forward to talking wise and genos has someone who cares so much about his well-being that he refuses to let him try and basically kill himself like the way he used to. now genos has someone who actually worries if he’ll make it through a fight instead of just trying to self destruct at everything he just about loses to. he has been given a safer and more realistic goal to look forward to and he’s become more relaxed.
saitama’s been able to be more expressive since he’s constantly with genos, and he doesn’t feel as empty because he feels like he has a reason to live now. it’s clear that when they’re apart saitama worries endlessly for genos (and once worries that something horrific would happen to genos if he were by himself) but without genos around he immediately goes back to his old, lonely ways and feels so unbearably sad and lonely that even king’s like “shit man. u ok”. and guess what? the moment he sees genos is safe and not dead or hanging on by a string, he’s IMMEDIATELY far happier and even visibly cheers up, and king’s like “WOAH you look awfully refreshed” and saitama’s like “yeah dude my head’s suddenly clear”; of course, this is also because he got to release a bit of pent up rage, but considering how worried he was for genos.. i think that smile goes for the cyborg as well.
Of course kuseno cares if genos almost dies, but the thing is, kuseno seems to be just as bent on finding that cyborg as genos is for his sake. He’s surprised by the fact that genos has been given more realistic goals to shoot for by saitama and even comments “you’re trying to aim for be s rank 1? is that what your master told you to do? what happened to getting vengence against the mad cyborg? where’s your passion for that?” and genos is just. shocked and doesn’t even reply for a moment and he’s like “uh.. i mean.. OF COURSE i still want vengence but i gotta do what sensei wants..” etc. But I do think kuseno notes that this is for the better anyways, because at least genos isn’t basically dragging himself in every single week and in tatters. while genos is strong; even considering when saitama and him first met what was his solution to battles he couldn’t win, he’d default to saying use my core, self destruct, im not worthy of defeating the borg if im losing to this, time to end it, sorry dr kuseno, family, master etc. Now Saitama steps in, and I was just REMINDED OF THIS SCENE IN PARTICULAR but like the arc where saitama knocks out genos in the middle of him and sonic’s fight? He was concerned for genos and as someone who rarely expresses concern or care for others, don’t you think it’s very telling that he stepped in on his own volition to make sure genos didn’t get hurt to beat sonic’s ass? even sonic comments “are you trying to protect him?” and saitama’s like “yeah, of course” and he’s clearly getting serious because he doesn’t want genos hurt.
he even basically ghosted fubuki the moment he saw genos and sonic fighting! saitama really does worry a lot for genos and some of the things he worries about are really concerning.. but this isn’t the first time he’s been pretty scared for genos. remember the deep sea king fight? he was afraid genos bit the dust there for a it and even visibly relaxes when he finds out genos is okay and he says “Don’t ever scare me like that again!” As for the saitama part of things, it’s not hard to see the difference of before genos vs after genos. Genos brought color to his world and gave him company, and it’s what he claims he never wanted but it’s clear how much it helped him. I feel like if it weren’t for genos, saitama would be just as shelled up if not more than he used to be – he didn’t really have much of anything to do and it’s obvious he was starting to get bored of… life, to put it lightly. But when genos basically asserts himself into his life?
he starts to feel again. he’s not moping all the time (unless genos is away for a long period of time), he has somebody to talk to instead of harmfully isolating himself. he’s the kind of guy who was alone with his thoughts for too long – we get glimpses of it every now and them, but we can clearly tell that he’s got a lot of sad emotional baggage. it all stems from being too strong, ofc. but, still, he is DEEPLY troubled by it and life basically lost all meaning for him. any farther and i feel like he would’ve legitimately felt like existing was useless, though with a body like his i highly doubt he could take… action. And the longer he’s alone with his thoughts, the worse he gets, and he just becomes so… mopey. forgive me if i sound repetitive, but like!! genos comes in, and all of that is GONE within a few days. He must’ve spilled about how lonely he felt to genos at some point before he started getting closer to him – based on the canon info where saitama actually got genos to cry uncontrollably when he told him how lonely he felt which had to have been some serious shit. Granted, Genos IS softer and more emotional for those he cares about, but.. still. with someone else to keep him away from his thoughts, he started to lighten up. at the beginning of the series it’s safe to say he was pretty damn standoffish – but now? now he’s actually attempting to socialize with other people, he actually hangs out with more people whether he wants to admit it or not. He’s become a bit softer (not much) to those he doesn’t know, and DEFINITELY more expressive – ESPECIALLY AROUND genos. he’s become more thoughtful – he doesn’t mope about his powers much anymore, he does anything and everything with genos because he can talk about it and lose himself in the moment. At least, that’s what i like to think. and all around… he’s found a new passion for life. the dude isn’t just wandering around aimlessly and being mega depressed now, he’s hanging out with genos and he’s living to protect the citizens and genos after he moved in. Yeah, he’s always gonna have a strong moral compass and save people, but the joy and the meaning of such actions fall to black and white until genos shows up again. now he’s got a reason to keep fighting. he has a reason to get out of bed and feel like his strength means something – because he can use it to protect others and protect genos even if nobody but genos is thankful of it. As much as he detests the attention he gets from Genos – think about it, don’t you think it helps to have someone think you’re not totally useless? That your work does mean something to at least one person even if the world basically gives you the bird? Because I don’t think saitama realizes it, but Genos is the one thing keeping him going in the hero job. I honestly think he would have quit when everyone chanted at him to give it up after destroying that meteor if it wasn’t for genos – he saved everyone’s lives, and genos was the only one to see it. genos is the one that gets him to calm down and realize that if they don’t care, that doesn’t matter – he’d always be there for saitama And anyways, the gist of all this goes back to my first point – it’s amazing that they have each other now, because imagine all the development and all the ways they’ve been improving just never existing!
Without Saitama, genos would still be the same wreckless dude trying to throw himself without thought into intense battles. Saitama has helped him heed himself on that, and to relax and stop taking everything so seriously. Without Genos, Saitama would be the same old sad sack of hero he used to be, holed up and his depression worsening because he hardly ever leaves the apartment but for what? Sales? Manga? Sometimes Monsters if he happens to run into them? He doesn’t do much of anything and it took a heavy toll on his mental health, but now Genos is there to get him out, to possibly even comfort him or just support him if he needs it. He gets Saitama out of the house, involved ina lot of other activities, and when Genos isn’t around, Saitama… doesn’t fare too well at all. //COUGHS LOUDLY@ THE MANGA REFERENCED EARLIER
( and personally, despite saitama coming off as almost always :^| i feel like the poor guy really really overthinks things. you may think there’s nothing going on in there, but his thoughts really are dangerous for him to be alone with )
Saitama just wants to be carefree and he’s still very much lax, and even though he knows he’s a shitty teacher, I think that he does a great job of teaching genos that there’s more to life than REVENGE, SELF DESTRUCTION, and FIGHTING. He teaches him to enjoy the little things in life, and Genos rejuvenates his passion for heroism.
It’s something Saitama’s been missing for a long time, and something Genos never had – he just wants Genos to feel as human as possible, and I feel like he tries all too hard to get Saitama to open up as well. He doesn’t have to hide away what he really acts like – not that he cared much for how he comes off to others anyways – but around genos he can be.. childish. He can be comfortable. He can be difficult. He can be whatever he wants, and no matter what, Genos will be there to support him. And I really, really admire that. ONE & Murata did them the best justice i’ve ever seen with a relationship like theirs. Genos wants to help Saitama in whatever way he can. Saitama wants to make sure Genos lives out his life like any normal person would. Genos knows how to live again, and Saitama has a reason to live.
sO. IN CONCLUSION, Saitama and genos may not realize it…. but they definitely need each other. Them meeting was for the best of both of their lives – and without each other there’s no way in HELL they’d be doing as good as they are now.
