                    the sergeant had the tendency to leave out a lot of information when she would question about work.  she had already seen too much way back when they had first met and since then,  david had been working to down-play his job.  and there were definitely some days where his job seemed boring and he spent the entire shift at the headquarters — just training.  today had not been one of those days and he had taken a bullet to the chest.  his vest stopped it,  of course,  but it didn’t stop the bruises.  it was quiet as he snuck in the dark,  sleeping house,  but he was late and he hadn’t been able to let her know that he was going to be this late in coming home.   ❝ hi, ❞    eyes widened as she surprised him in the kitchen.   ❝ what are you doing up? ❞
