closed starter for @elvisenthusiast location: the candy bar
Most of the time Mavis didn’t go to these places for food, not that it could satisfy her needs anyway but her main objective was always to meet new people. Also to be in a new environment, the hotel walls were lovely but she’s had enough of a lifetime to look at them. Before finding a table to station in, she politely waited her turn to look at the selection the jukebox offered. It was funny seeing a myriad of songs ranging from the 50s to the modern hits that she could recall when they were released. It was a little game she liked to play, linking these songs to date moments in her life. Like the song she chose, Devil in Disguise by Elvis Presley, released around the time her dad surprised her with a TV to help pass the time in the hotel faster.
By the time her pick started playing, she was already settled down and trying to finish off the crossword in today’s paper. Her song choice was a bit more dated than the songs that had played, it might’ve gotten in the way of the vibe that had been established. About a second into the song, it was noticeable that someone in the booth close to her was very excited over the choice, Mavis was more than happy to announce she was behind the decision, “I picked it out! It’s one of my favorites, been listening to it since I was a kid.” If the normal definition of a kid involved 70 year olds, which she was at the time, then she wasn’t lying. “I just wish they had more of his lesser known songs to pick from but I guess I might just have to dust off my vinyl collection if I want to listen to them.”

It wasn’t rare one would find Mavis picking up lunch orders for her employees. She didn’t mind having to do a favor like these, plus there was the usual enjoyment in getting out of the hotel. It was a standard pick up and Mavis wasn’t expecting much trouble when she reached for the drink labeled to Elsa. “Oh, I’m sorry! I was picking up an order for my friend who also happens to have the same name as you, I just assumed..” Her sentence wandered off as a new thought entered her mind. The stranger had a cold touch to them, so cold that Mavis had to wonder if they were a vampire themselves. From what she could hear, the other had a heartbeat so that couldn’t be the case. Figuring she was overthinking everything, she shot the other a quick smile, “Tea should do the trick in getting you warm, the weather outside has been getting colder and colder every day, after all.” Mavis never cared for the weather, it didn’t affect her at all as a cold-blooded being but if lying to save face was needed, she’d say whatever she could to sound like a normal person. “Lately, it feels like all I’ve wanted to do is stand in front of my fireplace.”

location: lucky cat cafe
Elsa hadn't left the house in- well, long enough that it was a bit embarrassing to mention. She knew Anna was worried about her, and that she was becoming enough of a hermit to cause gossip to spread throughout Echo Creek and beyond. She didn't mind the gossip, but she did want to make Anna happy, so she decided to get them both a sweet treat at the Lucky Cat Cafe.
She ordered two chocolate chip cookies, which she could tell were going to be warm, gooey, and delicious, and a peppermint tea just for herself. As she reached for the tea when it was placed on the pick-up counter and her name was called, she nearly knocked it over when someone else reached for the same drink. "Oh, um," she started, "sorry, but, uh, that's my tea. It has my name on it- Elsa."

"Oh no, I'm fallin' in love again." -Ariel
@ocnsdaughter
"Lucky you," She couldn't figure out why that could possibly be a problem, having strong feelings for another is a privilege that Mavis didn't like to ponder on that fact that she was without. Not that she didn't feel things for some over the years but truly loving someone was as much a mystery to her as a human's knowledge of vampires. She thought she knew all the answers to love and that it all boiled down to a zing but after hearing what the gossip blog had to say, she was starting to question everything. "How do you know it’s love? What if it’s just an extreme crush?"

Can this be a real thing, can it? - dani
@daniiidenniiison
"Of course vampires aren't real!" She acted quick on response, lying to save her own identity and avoiding eye contact at all costs. "It's just a made up thing that drives up sales around here. Kinda like how the Mystery Shack gets all those tourists and how the hotel amps up the creepiness around Halloween for guests." Mavis did feel guilty for lying to her new acquaintance, she was only looking for the truth, after all. However, the truth wouldn't spill out of Mavis' lips that easily, especially not to someone she doesn't know if she could fully trust yet. "Ghosts, I can see being a thing but vampires?" She shook her head, hoping that was the last of the questioning on her species.

Mavis had heard rumors of a new vampire running among Animania but the search wasn’t easy. It’s not like she could ask around. Nevertheless, it was a bit exciting for her to have a possible new vampire friend but she had to remember the prospects of how they came to join the blood sucking species. Unlike most vampires in Animania, Mavis was born into the life, she never experienced a heartbeat and was older than most. The process of helping a new vampire transition into the life was something she would happily aid in but nothing she could truly comprehend. How could she understand the loss of a past self? How would she feel over a second chance at life? Answers to these questions were only things she could speculate over.
Who knew that when she’d entered a restaurant, just mere blocks away from her hotel, Mavis would find exactly who she needed? Better yet that she was tending to her lone table. It was easy to look out for the lack of a heart’s natural rhythm, not many could relate. She was sure the other could tell she didn't have one either. “Hi, I’m Mavis. Can we talk? I think you and I have something in common.”

Taking flight in bat form was a way for Mavis to escape the tasks and stress of all responsibilities. This was the one thing that helped center herself and could truly relax her. What wasn’t relaxing her was spotting Lukas out late at night, seemingly following another down a dark alley. She knew it was bad to assume what he’d do but she grew restless waiting for him to take action. She knew Lukas was the type to take human blood and that enraged her to no end. The thought it happening in any moment caused Mavis to interfere before anything terrible would happen under her watch. “Lukas!” The shout alone scared off the stranger out into the well-lit street. As she flew her way down to the ground, her wings substituted for arms, along with the rest of her body returning to its human form. “What are you doing out this late? Y’know what? I don’t even want to ask, I feel like I already know the answer.” She made sure to keep her voice hushed but still looked around to make sure no one was around. “You can’t go around looking to suck the blood out of everyone in Animania. Why don’t you just use the blood packs I send you?”

One of Mavis’ favorite pastimes was people watching. While it started off as studying how to live a normal life that wasn’t cramped up in a hotel, it soon became a wholesome thing for her as she surveyed the personalities of those around her. Some things she could notice in the park were that: if kids draw with chalk, adults will often walk around the art; some elderly women will stay and feed the birds; and if she’d stayed long enough, she’d come across someone she knew. Today’s friend happened to be Ariel.
Mavis waved enthusiastically, “Ariel! Hi!” She gestured for the other to come sit next to her on the park bench. “Did you go to the bonfire? I tried finding you but gave up after a while and left straight after the concert.” Mavis hadn’t found many great interactions, if any at all, at the bonfire, she’d been deterred from chatting with new people for a bit. Which is why talking with someone she knew brought her great comfort. “I’m guessing we didn’t do much since that gossip girl page hasn’t mentioned us.”
