"an arm!" julia exclaimed, a day ago she thought these conversations were coming to an end, she thought they reached the light at the end of the tunnel, but apparently it was the train's headlights coming straight toward them. "a whole fucking arm! god, a person can't catch a break in this stupid town. what? somebody thought it got too boring? decided it was their turn to have a little fun?"

"I understand," Julia can't deny she felt the same way, but she thought the feeling of an invisible target on her back will stay in the past, that she'd never have to think about that again, but here they were. Another twisted game. "We didn't know anything last time and we don't know anything now. We're the blindfolded prey that waits for their turn." It sounds horrible, but it's what it truly felt like.

"Ah, I get it." She nodded, chuckling as she took another sip of her drink. "It's awful," she agreed, swallowing hard. "I mean, it's getting to the point where—" A person walked past the counter and Sarah paused, waiting until he passed to continue, "—where I don't even want to leave the house, you know?" She sighed. "It certainly seems like it."

as a designated driver, and still trauma from previous social gatherings, julia wasn’t drinking tonight, but that didn’t stop her from having fun. she danced for a while with her friends, got to see some people she hadn’t for a while and over-all she was having a great night so far. she didn’t know where any of her friends went to, and she was on her way to find them, but stopped to talk when she saw dom near the bar, “hey, you.” she smiled at him and went in to give him a hug, “having fun tonight?”

Just when she started to believe life was getting easier Catherine Graves appeared on her screen yet again to broadcast horrifying news. She was back to frantically texting and calling everyone to make sure they were okay, as if that was possible after they thought everything ended a couple of months ago. What was she supposed to do now? How can she keep going knowing the same story could be repeating itself? A knock on her door brought her racing thoughts to a halt. It made her jump from the couch only to stay still and stare at the door until another knock came and her brain reminded her Dom said he’d be coming over. She approached the door slowly and peeped to make sure it was him only to swing the door open when she confirmed it. She didn’t wait for him to say anything, she didn’t let him get inside before she already threw herself to hug him tightly, “why is this happening again?”

   —   julia gave herself some time to process what happened, avoiding meeting up with people as she knew she was no good in these situations. spiraling julia was safely kept at bay at home. and one of the first people she went to when she felt ready was jieun with a beautiful daisy bouquet. “hey, i saw these flowers and knew i had to get them for you,” she gave her soft smile handing it to her, “how are you holding up?

"i love the whole 'met at work' story as much as the next person, but i think he actually has a thing for one of my co-workers," she explained the situation even though she wasn't sure, but he always seemed to show up whenever she was on shift with them, "or maybe it's the whole 'oh my god you're a real person that actually has a life outside of your work place'. that happens a lot to be honest."

"maybe he goes there so often because he has a thing for you." lou points out with the shrug of their shoulders, "so i take that as you're not interested?"

   —   julia didn’t know how to describe how she was feeling. a small piece of her felt like the pressure on her chest was lifted, able to take an actual breath without fearing it being her last. angered by the betrayal of people she thought she could trust. and sadness over those she lost. now she wanted to focus on those who were still here. she wanted to find a way to move on though she knew it was a long road to get there. a few months ago kyle would of been the last person she’d want to see, but with everything that happened she wanted to extend a hand toward some type of friendship even if it tore at her heart. she stopped at the daily dose filling a bag with the most popular choices and went to his place. “hey,” she greeted him with a small smile when the door opened. “i thought i’d bring you a little something. i was going to show up a few days ago, but thought you’d prefer space.” although she knew her timing will never be perfect given what he’d lost.

Julia handed Sawyer one of the cups with coffee and took a seat on the other end of the couch, tucking her legs underneath her. “Sorry I haven’t been answering my phone. I just really needed a few days to myself, you know? I’m still really freaked out by everything, but I’m learning to... live with it. What about you? How have you been holding up with everything?”

It was no secret Julia was having a hard time with Maya gone, but she knew she had to find a way to move on even if that’s the last thing she wanted, because one way or another it meant forgetting and she didn’t want that. But she tried to put on a smile for her friends, and it helped surrounding herself with people. The sun on her face and the breeze from the ocean felt amazing. “Remind me, why aren’t we coming here more often? It’s pretty nice.”

She went back to the kitchen to pour herself another cup of coffee just in time for Adee to come out of her bedroom. “So I just had my morning coffee with Kyle,” Julia started as she poured both of them a cup, “wasn’t there literally anyone else at the club? No judgement, but seriously? Kyle?”

“I can’t believe this,” now that she’s had a little more time to process what she heard on the news, Julia was feeling a calmer, though fear kept her on edge and she was sure she’ll feel like this until Rhys’ murderer is caught. “After everything there’s another dead person... and the rest of him... is missing... this is fucked up.”

"She lost a lot, I get why she needed to leave Nightrest," staying in the small town full of memories could of done a lot more damage than help even if there were still people here that loved and cared about her. Who knows, maybe one day she'll get enough strength to come back. "Well, if you don't have anything planned around the end of summer I'm a hundred percent taking you up for that offer. I miss my book buddy." Julia already got herself hyped, and for once she thought doing something like traveling for herself wouldn't hurt. She's been good with money, careful to start saving up for bad days, but maybe it was meant for this instead. "Since uh...- since I found Vivian that night I was looking for a way to express what I was feeling and started writing. I just need to find the courage to send it to publishers. I proof-read it, but I know there's a lot of editing that usually happens. My email is full of drafts ready to be sent. You don't have to do that for me, though. Maybe I should just give you my phone so you can click send because I don't think I'll be able to."

“Honestly, she could use a bit of reality. I’m sure she has missed you as well, she’s just… and anyways it will definitely do you some good to go and see the world after everything here” Derin was certainly concerned for his sister. Never having seen her in such a state before, and being completely powerless when it came down to helping her. Maybe seeing a friend from home would help. “Oh? I’m all ears.” He leaned forward so he could listen more closely. “That would definitely be a book to read. You won’t be lacking any material that’s for sure.” Probably not the best thing to say, but it seemed right at the moment. “Not that I know much about the publishing community or anything, but I’m sure I got a few connections who may be able to set your foot in the door if that’s something you’re really interested in doing. Have you had any chance to draft anything, or you’re still in the brainstorming process?” He certainly would be picking up a copy if she did go through with it. It might help him understand a bit more everything that was going on around as opposed to just hearing that someone new died on the news. Derin was rather detached from his community.

   —   “oh, hey,” julia smiled at dom as she placed the almost empty coffee back on the table. her shift ended more than fifteen minutes ago, but thought of unwinding here before heading home. “how are you?” she questioned and pointed to the empty seat next to her.

“I don’t think I’ll be able to eat anything for days now,” Julia let out a breath as she leaned in her chair and rested a hand over her full stomach. “This food is dangerously good. I feel like I’m going to burst.”

"thank you for keeping us full," she said with a smile, julia couldn't begin to explain how grateful she was to have friends like maya. ones who actually cared about her and vice-versa. she doesn't know what she'd do without them. "you think i'll be able to do it?" julia laughed, she wasn't a bad cook, however she knew there'd be no way to replicate anything maya's mom shows her. though she might try but still. "stay seated and relax, please!" there was already enough on the table in front of them, and she wanted maya to get a few minutes of peace before she goes back to cooking. "oh, well i don't think i've gotten down to anything worth mentioning. mainly working, have to keep the coffee addicts at bay. but i did get out of my reading slump!"
