“As if people aren’t boring in comparison to you already.” Her smile and laugh fail to mask the gentle flush of her cheeks. No matter how simple or intense his words are he never fails to make her blush. He could simply look at her and she’d be able to feel the love in his gaze.

Admittedly the thought of her driving anyone crazy, but especially him, makes her heartrate spike with great ease. She wonders what it is that he thinks about her that makes him say such things. Was it something she did? Something she said? Some thing she wore he maybe thought she looks particularly good in? Hmmm....

“Glad to know I’m always on your mind~ You’re always on mine, too. I hope you know that. Always will be. But...you know....you should show me just how crazy I make you. I’m curious~”

Kale beats Neff to the chase. He's already giving his local marshmallow witch a smooch on the cheek. Then her forehead. The bridge of her nose. And there goes a kiss on the lips.

If there's anyone she can count on to shower her in affection it's most certainly her beloved hubby~

It's impossible to hold back the giggles, taking him by his cheeks and returning the kisses tenfold.

"Gosh you're so cute. Do you have any idea how much I love you?~" And just in case, she'll prove it with one more kiss (or two).

"I'd sure hope so if we're married! It would be a shame if my hubby didn't actually like me!"

Her comment is followed by a playful giggle. They had always joked about being married, but lately things had been a little less joking and a little more serious. They had talked about having a future together, but for now they'll just keep taking things at their own pace.

Eat-shit grin firmly in place, Kale offers Neff what appears to be a gift bag. Inside of the bag are stones ranging from lapis to selenite, a large chocolate, strawberry filled pastry and what appears to be a trophy titled 'world's best Mario kart player.'

"Happy birthday, greatest wifey in the world!"

Oh? And what's this?

Thoughtful gifts from her beloved hubby?? She's not at all surprised. As silly as he was (C'mon, look at that trophy) he still knew how to get things that mattered.

“Now aren’t you just the absolute sweetest?~” And instantly does she lean over to press a soft kiss to his lips, nuzzling into his cheek directly afterwards. “I love it. Especially the trophy. Finally I’m seen for my greatness and ability to keep up with you~” A giggle, taking a bite of the pastry afterwards. “You’re the best. Thanks, Kale.”

"After all we've been through I'd sure hope you did!"

And that’s how it always was with them. They always start the conversation light, always gave the other a reason to smile, always made sure they knew that they were really listening to one another.

And that’s why she takes both his hands, kissing his knuckles before lowering them back down - still in her grip.

“But really, thank you. I’m glad that you do. I know that despite how you act, you don’t truly trust people like that. There are things you don’t want to tell people, don’t want them to know, mostly because you don’t want them to worry. There’s been a lot going on with us, I know, and especially with the dreams and all....I know it took you a lot to feel like you could open up to me, and I appreciate it. I promise you I won’t take your trust for granted.”

She steps forward, pressing her forehead to his.

“I love you. And I trust you, too. I’ll stay by your side no matter what, okay?”

Kale's practically bouncing on the balls of his heels. "Perfect date idea!!! You, me and the great outdoors!" he chirps, making a grand gesture with his arm. "All the while bonding with nature, cuddling up by the fire, and possibly, HOPEFULLY having a cup of tea with mothman!"

It sounded nice...wonderful even! But it was honestly sounding a bit too normal for Kale's standards. Not that he couldn't be 'normal' with his requests, but it didn't match up with his excitement.

So when mothman finally comes into the picture her smile grows even wider. Ahh....there it is. There was that Kale touch to the date idea.

"You know what? That does sound perfect, actually. Are you free this weekend? I could use a fun little getaway with my hubby <3~”

He wasn’t slick, and it made her laugh with amusement that he even thought for a minute that he was. The way he stretched with his obnoxious yawn and just so happened to sprawl on her was the most obvious trick in the book - but by the gods if his corniness wasn’t one of the things she loved most about him. He was so unapologetically himself and it was contagious. She always felt safe and comfortable with him, and it was clear he felt the same in the way he slowly opened up to her about things he normally wouldn’t tell others.

Their relationship had gone through practically every phase before getting to where it is today - one so stable and certain. The pair had taken to calling each other their spouse long before they’d made their romantic intentions official, and now the nickname had evolved into a promise for the future. This man was going to be her husband someday.

And as his future wife, who was she to deny him his cuddles? Arms wrap right back around him, nuzzling against him and sneaking in a kiss to his lips. 

She’s wasn’t going to let him go for the world.

"Is that so?"

But she smiles, leaning against him and taking his hands in her own. She doesn't say it, but it's obvious just how happy she really is. To know he finds her beautiful, well it wasn't like he ever hid it. Matter of fact he told her more times than she could could...but it doesn't change the fact that every time he said it made her heart skip a beat.

"I think you're quite handsome, but you already knew that, didn't you?"

Fingers lace and lips press to his, pulling away only to nuzzle against his cheek.

"I'm glad you think that about me, though. Genuinely. Because every time you tell me I know you mean it with every fiber of your being....and for once I feel like I have a solid place in this world. I don't feel like a passerby just sliding in and out of the loves of others. You see me, and acknowledge me, and I couldn't ask for anyone better. Thank you."

"Is time even real? Maybe time’s just a construct of human perception," Kale says this as he plops down beside Neff, before leaning his head against her shoulder. "Just... gonna hafta duke it out with Time then. But first, a nap!"

He says this is casually as if he's not about to use Neff as a human pillow.

"That's actually pretty much all it is."

Her response is just as casual, not even looking at him while her arm reaches up to gently hold him against her shoulder. Finger play through brown locks and caress skin, a chuckle vibrating in her throat until she finally turns her head towards him to kiss the top of his head.

"Go ahead and rest. I know you don't get enough of it. As long as I'm here I'll make sure the nightmares don't get ya."

She couldn’t have said the words any better herself. Ever since she met him she felt something within her she’d never felt before - confidence. Not only in herself, but in her abilities, in her crafts, in her decisions, and in her relationship with him. The time spent with him had helped her begin to heal and grow stronger, he always made sure she knew how much she was capable of on her own and how much he believed in her.

She believed in him, too.

No matter how much time they spent apart they knew the other was out there somewhere, thinking of them and supporting them no matter what. They could stand on their own, absolutely, but when they were together they were an even greater force to be reckoned with. Nothing was stronger than a couple that knew not only how to work with each other’s strengths, but be able to work with their weaknesses as well.

Neff told Kale practically everything about her. She confided in him, and he was doing his best to open up to her - something he admitted he didn’t usually do. That was more than enough for her.

A hand slides through his hair on the back of his head, pressing lips against his for a deep kiss before speaking. “You’re damn right about that~ As long as I have you, I know things are gonna be okay.”

She swears she never sees Kale get as aggressive as he does when it comes to her. It’s probably one of the few times she sees the face behind the mask...and honestly it makes her feel some type of way.

It was so sweet how dedicated he was to making sure she was happy whenever she was with him - how he always wanted to make her smile, make her laugh, get her flustered with compliments. Even when he was teasingly bullying her by not letting her win at video games he made sure she was still genuinely having fun. 

That’s just the type of guy he was.

But sometimes when she was sad, when her thoughts ended up back in the past, she could see those shifts in his eyes. She saw how stern he could be, how serious he could be, and she wonders what ever did she do to deserve someone like him. Someone who was willing to let down the walls for her and be more open - more willing to show those true colors even if still just to protect her.

“You’re just always full of surprises, aren’t you?”

And with those words come a smile, gently pulling him in to hold him close. Please, stay close. She can’t lose you, too.

“Thank you. You don’t have to do that for me. I think I’ll be okay.”

"I want all of you, forever, everyday. You and me… everyday." Leave it to Kale to say something cheesy. Also leave it to him to quickly dip her into a kiss, right before handing over chocolate and a bouquet of flowers. "Happy Valentines Day, to the greatest Wifey in all the multiverse."

Leave it to Kale to constantly find new ways to get her a flustered mess. Moments like this were when she remembered just how in love with him she was. To hear him say such words, to know he meant them, it makes her so happy she could cry. 

Forever. Everyday.

It sounds perfect. At this point she wanted nothing more than to be with him - to live with him, get married, start a family - she chose HIM, and she’d never been more certain about something in her life. Arms cling to him when he kisses her, returning the gesture before accepting the treats. 

“I love you.” Her smile grows wider. “I love you!! I love you SO much!! I can’t imagine my life without you anymore. You’re absolutely wonderful and I’m the luckiest girl in this universe to be able to call you mine. You want all of me? You have it. Forever. Everyday. I’m yours.”

Without missing a beat, Kale wraps his arms around Neff's waist and pulls her in for a kiss. After a moment, he leans back, cheeky grin on his face. " Happy New Years to the most wonderful Wifey in the multiverse!"

Oh. Oh he’s cute, ain’t he? Once again Kale Bateson has literally no idea JUST how happy he makes her.

The little romantic always dreamed of those sweet cliche moments - kissing in the rain, in a ferris wheel at the top, under mistletoe - so getting a new years kiss was obviously on that list, too.

She wonders just how many bucket list moments he plans to check off for her. He’s already given her two now, which is two more than she could say about her last ‘relationship’. Gods she really was so lucky to have such a sweet and cute guy want to dedicate his time and effort to her...

And then to go on ahead and call her the most wonderful one in the multiverse...gosh he’s just so adorable she can’t help but SMILE. He’s pulled back in for another kiss, unable to help herself from smothering him in affection.

She’s certain now just how much she’s in love with him. There’s no way she could be this happy, this high up in the clouds, this desperate to be with him and NOT be.

Kale just seemed to get more and more.....bold. It’s not like he was ever afraid to do things in the first place - he was always someone that did what he wanted without fear of consequences unless someone else was involved. That was in general, though, and what she was referring to was their relationship.

It was like ever since they had established where they stood, ever since they agreed to officially start dating, he didn’t hold back. And who knows, maybe it was less he didn’t hold back and more he STOPPED holding back. What they were WAS rather ambiguous at first, even to them, but now with that out of the way he was always surprising her.

Still charming, still very sweet on her, but now he seemed to be even more affectionate (and that’s saying something considering how affectionate they already were with each other) and less afraid to say exactly how he felt about her.

Case in point, the moment he walked into her apartment, handed her a bouquet of flowers, and then proceeded to pull her into a dramatic dip to kiss her under the mistletoe. Then had the audacity to pull her back up, give that same big ol dorky smile he always does, and ask her how her day was.

Well! Her day was a lot better with you in it, that’s for sure!

Holiday Prompts -  🎤 – to attend holiday karaoke/serenade my muse || @iinauras

Neff honestly wasn’t sure if she wanted to laugh or cry, but at this point she might end up doing both. Of all the wild things Kale could do, he settled on ‘singing’ to Neff at the family holiday party. 

His family probably thought she was crazy, sitting there laughing at his off-tune attempt at a serenade. Anyone else would have made him stop, they wouldn’t put anyone through this torture, but she just let him do it. From the obnoxiously sung-wrong-on-purpose parts to the dramatic dance number he put on, he got through it all start to finish.

By then she really was crying from all the laughing she’d done, having to gently wipe the tears from her eyes to make sure she didn’t accidently smear her makeup at all. He’d started laughing with her afterwards, taking them quite a while to calm down enough to breathe. 

And at that point she gently cups his cheeks to give him a soft kiss. Yep. This one was a keeper.
