@selunaris asked : ❛ will you please slow down a little? ❜
"hells," he grumbled beneath labored breath. he was trying to get the fuck out of this place, as quickly as his feet could carry him, and he didn't need some whining little pup trailing after him — most especially not the one who'd gotten him in this mess to begin with. zarys and the rest were dead by the hands of the cleric and her comrades, the shipment for which he was responsible taken into her possession, and who was going to have to answer for it all? not her.
oh, and the worst part? he didn't even have olly and his child-like foolishness to keep him entertained on the road. where in the nine hells was he even supposed to go now?
"leave me the fuck alone." rugan's voice was a low growl, and as he turned to face lunaris, his dominant hand deftly found the hilt of his dagger. "you've caused enough trouble at my expense. the least you could do is let me go my own way quietly. you owe me a hell of a lot more than that, but you can consider it a debt repaid."

it would be impossible for the shift in her expression to go unnoticed — the change from petulant pout to frustrated furrowed brows. rugan didn't pride himself in being a learned man, but people? he knew people. he was in the business of knowing people; in his line of work, one wrong read on the situation could mean one's end. he'd pegged her to be the reactive type, so that part of it didn't come as a surprise. what did, however, was her own seeming shock toward the way he'd responded. what else had she expected?
perhaps the trader would say more on the matter if she hadn't immediately thrown out her follow-up question. where are you even going to go? the fact that he had no plan, no clear path forward, was a larger problem than he wanted to admit. his stubbornness and pride wished it hadn't been so easy to see. maybe getting her off his tail would be easier that way.
the hand hovering over the hilt of his dagger dropped. violence would do neither of them any good. in truth, he didn't wish to hurt her. he'd seen enough blood these past days. "i don't want to get myself killed, but i'm also not blind to the fact that death seems to keep coming and knocking on my door regardless of what i do." rugan gave luna a quick once-over. she was so small and yet carried herself in such a larger-than-life manner. he supposed most heroes had that sort of presence . "soon there'll be not a single city i can set foot in without risking my life. a missing shipment doesn't go unnoticed, and word travels fast among the zhent." his weight shifted from one leg to another, a deep sigh exhaled. "i've got no where to go, so i guess it's hotting the road and surviving off the land for me."
Things had escalated rather quickly and dramatically; none of this had turned out how Luna had intended but that was the hand she was dealt. With Rugan speeding away from her, Luna struggled to keep up with her shorter legs, only to stumble slightly as he came to a sudden stop to face her. She had come to a stop perhaps a little closer than intended, but a big enough gap remained for her to see his hand move to his dagger.
Her brows raised as she met his eyes once more. The absolute audacity! Still, she was undeterred, despite the obvious threat. In such close range, she knew there would be little she could do to fight him off if he did decide to attack.
"I owe you--?" Luna was shocked, lips parted for a moment as she tried to scramble her thoughts together. "Perhaps I should have just left you for the gnolls then! The whole reason you're even standing here now is because I saved your... your stupid ass! And if I hadn't come here, guess what? You'd still be tied to that chair and probably dead by now!" She knew she could not have just knowingly left him to either fate, but she still partly wished she had if only to avoid his ingratitude. Humans were so... irritating.
"And where are you even going to go? You're just determined to get yourself killed, aren't you?"
