in that same light i really enjoy how all the zoldyck conflicts, despite carrying with them maybe the highest possible emotional stakes (and physical violence) you could get from them, still resolve at the end of the day as if it were a fairly “normal” family disagreement. it can feel bad for those of us who want to see illumi get punted but it does do a really fucking good job at hammering home that this IS a surprisingly less-dysfunctional family given how extreme their circumstances & behaviors are. oh god killua is being tortured as punishment for running away!! oh he talks his dad into letting him leave again. oh no illumi is trying to kill alluka!!! oh but he realizes her worth and then gets telepormed for being a wierdo about it. oh fuck oh shit killua attacked/threatened his parents!!!!!!!! oh they’re actually kinda proud. its great.

#hunter x hunter spoilers #like outside illumi’s open abusiveness its like. hell even illumi seems to have his family’s ‘best interests’ at heart hes just fucking evil #MORE evil. about it #like to the point of not acknowledging their personhood about it #even the conflicts with him specifically still largely get resolved by talking shit out #with the mountains of bodies and such occuring in the meanwhile (with the alluka arc at least) only serving to further illumi-nate the absur #absurdity of it all #also for us ‘praying for the guys downfall’ nerds i have a good feeling on how he’s going out if he does reach the dark continent #like if the theories about nanika being an Ai turn out to be true… we’ll have a way for Illumi to screw himself over on that front without #implicating his sister(s?) themselves #it could work so WELL or work out terrible in a fun way #if slash when we actually fucking get there #….i do love the succession arc tho i’m not complaining really. getting a bit impatient with it switching between decks but what can ya do
