Braiding Muichirou's hair
Tumblr media
His hair flew and splayed across his face for what must have been the fourteenth time in the past hour. The long locks clung onto his face, obscuring his vision, rendering him unable to see his opponent clearly. In this case, it was you.
Unable to hold it back anymore, you laugh. His exasperated face and frustration towards his hair was too much for you. It was rare for him to express his emotions and thoughts, even then nothing much would change. Muichirou’s eyebrows dipped down ever so slightly and an irritated sigh escaped his lips as he struggled to tame his hair in the wild wind that kept blowing against it.
“Honestly, how are you even alive, much less a Hashira, when your hair is constantly preventing you from fighting properly?” You laughed as you rummaged through your pockets. Muichirou gives you a flat look as he responds, “I encounter pathetic demons.” Noticing your actions, he asks “What are you doing? We’re training.”
You fish out a hair tie. “I know but wouldn’t it be more productive if your hair was tied up instead of interrupting our training every other minute?” He stares at the hair tie for a moment before taking it. He pauses again and stares at the object. Muichirou looks back up at you. “How do you use this again?”
Used to this, you simply smile and take the hair tie without questioning how one could forget how to use such a simple object. Walking behind him, you’re suddenly struck with the realisation that you’re about to not only touch but also tie the great Mist Hashira’s hair. Oh my, the possibilities are endless. How would he look with pigtails? Surely his baby face would fit that hairstyle perfectly. “Hey, do you have any idea on what hairstyle you want?”
Muichirou mused a little. “There’s more than one hairstyle…? I have no preference. Do whatever you want but make it quick.” Taking out another hair tie, you started your new mission.
First, you had to separate his hair into six. You were a little apprehensive that you would have to spend a few minutes combing his hair and much to your surprise, his hair was as smooth as (as a baby’s butt) silk. How did this forgetful baby who trained so rigorously and constantly have hair you bet were smoother than Uzui’s? Entertaining the thought of informing the flashy Hashira his hair care was incomparable to Muichirou immediately ended when you thought of how he would most definitely question how you knew and throw a fit. It was not worth it, you would have to find another thing to poke fun at him.
After making sure Muichirou’s hair was separated evenly into six, you moved onto braiding the first braid. Would a tight and thin braid suit him? Picturing the image in your head, you decided looser and thicker braids would suit him more; though not as thick as the Love Hashira’s. Carefully but efficiently braiding his hair, you did your best not to tug too hard to cause him pain. Though you were quite sure that that pain would only be considered as a fleeting feeling to him.
Moving onto the next braid, you realise how close you are to seeing Muichirou with pigtails. The sudden rush of anticipation caused you to braid his hair much faster, though of course you ensured that it was as neat and perfect as its twin. After tying up the end of his second braid, you hurriedly took a few steps back to admire your masterpiece before rushing to look at the front view.
He looked at you blankly yet somewhat expectantly.
  “Well? Are you done?”
“Oh my gosh, you look adorable! Give me a twirl so I can see my masterpiece in action!” Seeing how unimpressed and slightly disgusted he looked, you corrected your last sentence. “I meant, move around so we know whether or not this hairstyle is functional.” Getting up, Muichirou picked up his sword and performed a forward slash and spun around. He paused and thought a little. “So what do you think? I think it looks cute, I mean, functional.”
“...It feels heavy. Could we try other styles?” What. Did he just give you permission to (play) tie his hair again? You reigned in your excitement before responding. “Of course.” You fished out a few more hair ties. Muichirou studied your actions. “Why do you have so many…hair ties?”
“I always lose them but that’s not important. Sit down, let’s get started.”
a/n: i feel so embarrassed. i never really promised/swore never to write fanfics again to myself (it's been more than a year since i wrote a fanfic) but this just so sudden and rushed. i might come back to this and polish it. still, thank you so much for reading my re-debut rushed drabble!

Finishing School: Belts
People are, in general, sleeping on the belt.
Belts are one of our best allies in creating shape. They draw the eye where we ask it to be drawn, using color that can add or subtract, they're just a great resource. And they add to the finish of an outfit. So without the belt, my dress if just one solid block of teal. There's nothing breaking it up, there's nothing to suggest where my waist might hit. Right now, I am relying on the good graces of the crinoline to build in my shape and to provide visual interest to an outfit.
Because when we think about complete outfits, we need to think about visual texture, and providing things for the eye to look at. The belt provides a clear division between top and bottom, and gives us 'sections' of outfit and body to look at:
So for my Retro Cutie, I picked a current, patent leather, wide elastic belt. This is some stupid cheap fast fashion piece.
Tumblr media
A wide elastic belt is one of the most forgiving things you can own. Wide and narrow belts flip flopped in the 50s in popularity, with eventually the simple elastic cinch belt becoming a solid 80%, at least, of what we see in retro/repro/rockability what have you production today, and it's easy to see why: It creates the illusion of hourglass figure with very little work, and the modern-day elastic means it always fits perfectly without spillover effect. I'm going to give you a handful of good accessory options today, but my number one would be: Buy some elastic belts. If you slap it on with a cotton skirt and t-shrit, you'd be surprised how much more instant your style feels.
I chose this because it echoes, for me, the young style of the early 50s, sort of an idealized bubbly feminine. It adds to the overall roundness of the outfit, and the patent leather draws attention to the smallness of my waist while the black makes it seem yet smaller, creating an hourglass effect, and also is a more 'easy reach' retro
For my Old-World International Sophisticate, i went with a thin leather belt. I have no memory of how I obtained this. It's nothing special.
Tumblr media
A narrow belt is somewhat less forgiving, but that's no reason not to wear one! It provides the same division with a sense of grace that will be more obvious when I layer in the other pieces. it reads both richer and more 'true vintage' than my elastic belt above, while providing the same highlight to my waist.
A belt is one of the easiest outfit upgrades you can to. it instantly makes an outfit feel more finished, and when i'm thinking from the inmost garment to outmost, I find it nearly always looks better with a belt, especially in dresses.

–How involved were you with casting, and what led to Bill Skarsgård getting the lead?
FITZJOHN: We were completely hands-on on all things, including casting. The usual suspects were thrown around by the sales agent saying, “We need to look at…” I won’t mention any names, but we did talk to some of the big A-league boys. I think it was Roy Lee who suggested, “What about Bill Skarsgård?” and when we first heard that, to be honest, that didn’t really strike us. You know, he’s not exactly a boy, he’s 6-foot-4–a pretty significant man. And then the irony of that was it got us talking about, “This kind of reminds me of that story about the baby elephant that’s tied to the stake and pulls and pulls and pulls and can’t get away. And then by the time it’s a big bull elephant, it doesn’t even try to pull the stake, which it could probably do in no time.” And that’s essentially Boy’s story, the way he’s been so programmed by Shaman. He should be the champion, but he cedes the king role to Shaman, who’s about half his size by the time he’s grown up. So it just felt right.
SWART: When we spoke to Bill, he was so excited about playing a true action role. He’s a massive martial arts fan, and so capable. He was like, “Yeah, I want to do the training, and as many of my own stunts as you guys will let me.” We said, “Well, that’s great, Bill, but remember, your character has no lines, you have no dialogue.” And he said, “Yeah, that’s what really gets me about this role.” He studied the old Charlie Chaplin silent movies; he not only prepared his body and learned the martial arts part, but if you look at the range of emotion on his face, there are some little homages to classic Chaplin as well.
The rest of the ensemble was very much the same, finding the right people to bring these wacky characters to life. When we interviewed the actors, as well as our heads of department, we told them, “Wave your crazy flag! However you bring these characters to life, just lean into your creative inspiration.”
FITZJOHN: Getting back to Bill, if you see what he does under all the prosthetics in IT, you still know what he’s thinking and feeling. He’s one of a kind, and if Hollywood hasn’t recognized that he’s a big star yet, I believe they’re going to after this movie.
What went into getting Skarsgård in shape and choreographing his fight scenes?
FITZJOHN: That was a pretty significant task. Our stunt coordinator, Dawid Szatarski, is incredible in terms of how he thinks. He thinks in movement. Dawid basically invented a fighting style for Bill, given his lankiness; he wanted him to move with big sweeping motions, and they spent quite a bit of time in Berlin doing the training. We also hired a really good fitness/strength coach, a nutritionist, who basically lived with Bill for about nine months getting him ready. I didn’t stay too far from Bill during production, and I would watch him do a 12-hour shoot and then go and do a two-hour calisthenics workout on the roof. I mean, the guy would work out during lunch breaks. He never stopped; I’d never seen anything like that commitment. He became Boy.
SWART: Dawid was also our 2nd unit director. I think he has three or four credits on the movie; he actually has a great cameo as VDK Dawe, the one soldier who just won’t go down. Bill’s relationship with Dawid was very special, and there were times when Dawid would go to Bill saying, “So, do you think you can do this stunt?” and Bill would go, “Of course I can do this stunt,” and we were like, “No, you can’t do this stunt!” There were many moments when I would have to tell Bill, “No, no, you’ve got to use a double for this, because if you twist your ankle or something at this stage of the shoot…” But Bill was up for anything; he was like, “Well, then don’t challenge me,” you know? “Don’t dare me.” And we were like, “We’re not daring you!”
FITZJOHN: If we’re honest, Bill did the bulk of it; it’s not a battle we won in the end. Outside of the stupid, crazy stuff, like when we were throwing Boy down from a double-story balcony, he pretty much did everything.
I’ve heard that Skarsgård originally did Boy’s voiceovers himself, before H. Jon Benjamin came in and took over. Can you talk about the reasons and that process?
FITZJOHN: It was always going to be H. Jon Benjamin. I mean, Moritz called it at the same time, when we were casting. The short had this Marlboro Man voiceover that just doesn’t match with Boy. And even with Bill’s versatility, we needed to explore something like that. He did an amazing job, but the audiences wanted the almost bipolar nature of it.
SWART: It’s the absurdity of his inner voice, right? So in the short it’s the Marlboro Man, and Boy gets his voice from an old cigarette commercial. For the feature, we recorded Bill, which did give us a great connection to his character, but we found that we lost the absurdity of where his inner voice comes from. It took something away from the physical performance and the storytelling.
FITZJOHN: And also, given the nature of the story, the humor of H. Jon Benjamin gives us a reprieve, in a good way, from a pretty dark, dramatic and violent story.

#RPGaDay2024
Most often played RPG
I have a couple of ways I can take this question. If we’re talking about the rpg I’ve played the most in my life, then I have a few contenders. I spent decades in the trad game trenches, running Champions, GURPS, and Rolemaster. Tons of multi-year campaigns for each of those. GURPS might edge out the other two, but it’s a hard call.
But in 2001, I started running a homebrew, Action Cards, that I iterated on over multiple campaigns. In it players had individual decks which they used for resolution. While these decks shared some base cards, they also had unique ones for their characters. Advancement meant marking up those cards to raise results and occasionally adding new singular ones.
Action Cards ended up with a lot of Fate DNA. As it evolved I simplified things and changed up the elements. It didn’t have hand management, but instead focused on a push-your-luck approach to resolution. I ran tons of it at home, face to face, and at several different conventions. When DTRPG started offering card production, it really upped what we could do with it.
However as I started to play more and more online, Action Cards dropped away a little. I tried a couple of different approaches– even building the decks within Roll20. But the set up there didn’t lend itself to individual, easily-managed and distinct decks. So I kind of gave up on that. But then the pandemic began. It killed off the f2f games of AC in play. The tactility of the game in a physical space felt important. Losing that meant losing a key vibe.
So we haven’t played Action Cards since then. I regret that– it’s still one of my favorite systems. We had hundreds of great sessions with it over at least a dozen campaigns. Eventually I hope to go back to it, but I don’t know. I don’t know if it would work in an environment where I’ve shifted to so much online play.
So kind of a downer there.
On the other hand, if we’re talking about the game I’ve played the most often in the last few years, then it is probably Hearts of Wulin. It’s something of a cheat to cite a game I published, but it remains one of my favorites. I know it and I wrote it to fit with my GMing style. I appreciate the drama it provides, the cinematic nature of conflicts, and how easily I can adapt it to new things.
I’ve run one-shots at various online conventions, including our own Shared Hearth Open Gaming weekends. I’ve also run a bunch of short, 4-5 session series. The wuxia mystery framework, Numberless Secrets, evolved out of my wanting to run stories that felt like the Ancient Detective TV show.
Someone once told me that you’re done with writing a game when you don’t feel like playing or running it. I don’t think I’m done with Hearts of Wulin. I still dig the genre and I enjoy managing the mechanics.

OOR 2001 - Nr 8 - Rammstein interview
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rammstein <Germans have a very good sense of humor>
Rammstein: those are boring, surly men, who take themselves too seriously and even are perhaps a little 'wrong'. You would think. But with the release of the third album Mutter, singer Till Lindemann and drummer Christoph Schneider prove that Germans do have a sense of humor. "Only... we don't laugh."
by Robert Heeg
Actually, Rammstein's entire career is a joke. Or at least a bizarre twist of fate. Born and raised in the GDR, Lindemann, Schneider, keyboardist Flake Lorenz, bassist Oliver Riedel and guitarists Paul Landers and Richard Kruspe despite state censorship managed to develop into stubborn punks with their own vision on hard music. Only in '93, long after the fall of the wall, did they convert their ideas into the total concept Rammstein. In addition to hard industrial metal with a gothic touch, this concept also includes a well-oiled show in which sweaty male bodies and stunts with fire play a leading role. Despite international aspirations, the mother tongue was retained. That did not stop the albums Herzeleid ('95) and Sehnsucht ('97) from being very successful. Even in the US, entire tribes sing along at the top of their lungs during the performances. It must be a great victory for the six 'Ossies'. Can you therefore blame Rammstein for using images from the propaganda film Triumph of the Will, by Hitler's court filmmaker Leni Riefenstahl, in a video clip.
How does Mutter differ most from its two predecessors?
Till: "We used more acoustic instruments and recorded a string orchestra 'live' for the first time. We also worked on the mix for a very long time. We even broke off a mix because the album started to sound too much like Sehnsucht. We were looking for a more modern sound"
The official biography says that no one sounds like Rammstein, but I definitely recognize that rigid sound of Die Krupps...
Christoph: "Yes, of course. And there are more bands with which we have something in common. In that bio they are probably referring to the combination of show and German-language singing."
Till: "Especially that German thing, yes. Most acts sing in English, which sounds much rounder than German. So we do offer something new internationally."
The lyrics on Mutter seem less harsh, slightly more personal. Is there a thematic shift?
Till: "You should interpret them the way you want. Use your imagination. I do believe that they are less abstract than before, they have become clearer stories. However, we try to stick to our well-known style."
If you used to express yourself in macho rhetoric such as: 'Wollt ihr das Bett in Flammen sehen', you now cry for Mutter. Back to the womb?
Christoph: "Mutter is simply the word that fits the mood of the record, you don't have to look for any special meaning behind it. Inspiration can really come from anywhere: personal experiences, magazines, a book, a good film... It makes It doesn't matter. It can also happen if you happen to get your finger stuck in the electrical socket. Anything."
Is this a democratic band or are there members who have more influence?
Christoph: "It is quite a democratic whole. And that does not always make it easy when you are in a hurry. Fortunately, there is also a producer [Jacob Hellner] who makes decisions every now and then. It is also a lot more productive that we now sometimes work in smaller teams. If there are six of us, there is always someone who disagrees with something."
Till: "It is good to learn that you occasionally have to defer to the majority opinion. After three or four weeks it often turns out that the consensus was the basis for the right decision. It is essential that you share everything as a band: equal rights, equal duties. It has been my experience that when someone feels underexposed in a band, they usually leave."
Would Rammstein be over then?
Christoph: "It's like cutting off an arm. We would continue, but it would be very different."
In interviews the band members sometimes come across as a bit rigid. You rarely allow yourself to be lured out of your tent.
Christoph: "That depends on how someone responds to us and our texts. Every journalist does that in his own way, and we respond to that. But I know that we are considered difficult. Whether it is photographers, cover designers or people at the record company, they experience us as difficult. That is because we have a very strong opinion about how things should sound and look. We don't compromise well."
This also applies to the language...
Till: "Yes, why should we? Words are free."
And you were also right, in America people sang along with complete lyrics.
Christoph: "Well, at least they tried, haha. In any case, we had a good time with their attempts. They looked like teenagers going to their first pop concert, not having fully understood the lyrics, but still trying to sing along. Very amusing."
You guys have something special with America. Did that start when David Lynch used two of your songs for his film Lost Highway?
Christoph: "That was our first contact with America. It made us a bit known and gave us the opportunity to perform there. However, it was very difficult to make the right contacts and bring Sehnsucht there. We only managed that in '98."
American record companies are traditionally skeptical of European acts. Especially when they stubbornly continue to sing in their native language.
Till: "If you hang around somewhere in the middle, that is certainly true, yes. But once you are successful, you can do just about anything there. The most idiosyncratic acts are often the most successful."
Idiosyncrasy is also often poorly understood. For example, you are often associated with the extreme right. You went one step further by using fragments of Leni Riefenstahl films in the video for the Depeche Mode cover Stripped.
Christoph: "We have never really understood that prejudice. In our opinion, it is not demonstrable. In interviews we have often said that we have nothing to do with it. We are busy discovering our own German music and creating our own German band , and we have mentioned many things that have to do with our culture. We are getting quite tired of the allegations. People simply have an opinion about us, no matter how often we contradict those prejudices through the media. The only thing we can do now all that's left is to just continue making music. If you follow us a bit, you know that we have nothing to do with the right. For the people who still need an explanation, we have included the song Links 234 on the album. Listen to that."
Is your sense of humor and sarcasm underestimated?
Till: "Oh, you either understand us or you don't. There is no in between. You either love us or you hate us. The fans understand our intentions."
Christoph: "The problem is that people are always presented with something that is ready-made. But as soon as they have to interpret something for themselves, think for themselves, they have a problem. You do have your own opinion, right? Then don't ask me what you have to think about it. I can't explain it either."
Don't you secretly cherish those different reactions a little?
Till: "If people think we are really bad, that is of course often annoying and questionable. But it is indeed better than not arousing any reactions at all."
Christoph: "It did surprise us, but it has become part of us."
You also evoke reactions with the show. For the stunt with the dildo, you were even held in an American cell for a couple of hours in '98.
Christoph: "Americans are easily shocked by things that we consider very normal here. But for those involved it was certainly not a pleasant incident, I can assure you. Perhaps Till would like to say something about that."
Till: "We don't do something like this with premeditation. We mainly do a show like that for fun and to illustrate the music. That makes it a bit more pleasant for us on stage, because at least something happens and time goes by faster, haha. And the audience is grateful that there is also something to experience visually. It is not our style to deliberately evoke such extreme reactions. It is not as if we plan it, it just happens naturally."
And yet... Does that rebelliousness have nothing to do with your GDR youth? Is the animal out of the cage now?
Christoph: "That is probably innate, yes. In the GDR, of course, nothing was allowed and the music scene was of little significance. We spent our youth and teenage years in the GDR, so it could not have been otherwise or that it left an indelible impression."
Till: "Yet we weren't really rebellious. We just did what we did, also on stage. We just lived it up, and actually we still do. Only later did we realize that it was quite bold to do that in the GDR."
Were you influenced by show bands like Kiss?
Christoph: "Of course. I wasn't that impressed with the music, but I did have the posters hanging. Musically we were more impressed by Udo Lindenberg, AC/DC, Neubauten, the Neue Deutsche Welle. Very few of them actually came to the GDR. But we didn't know any better. If a band came, it would be talked about for another five years. Those performances were incredibly inflated. haha."
Did you feel like second class citizens?
Till: "That was a big problem, yes, because we were constantly looking to the west. I think the worst thing was that we were not allowed to travel. That was really sad. Other than that, life wasn't that bad, just the traveling... ."
Once an Ossie, always an Ossie?
Till: "Certainly. We still live in East Berlin. Due to our extensive travelling, I don't know whether the term Ossie still has the same meaning for us. But it remains our homeland. You carry it with you in your heart. "
Am I wrong or are you parodying the cliché image that foreigners have of Germans?
Christoph: "You might think. Well, we know how people sometimes think about Germany. Never mind, there is little we can do about that."
Till: "We like to exaggerate and that's part of parody. Only... we don't laugh."
Do you think Dutch people understand German humor?
Christoph: "Germans have a very good sense of humor. But let's talk about you, with your Big Brother-Shit! 1)"

Sundergarments and Shapewear Solutions.
Summer unders. I cannot overstate the value of a well-placed nipple cover or being able to sit (or stand) comfortably at a hot and humid wedding ceremony without sweat dripping in awkward crevices like your inner thigh. There are indeed quite simple and available solutions to ensure you feel perfect in your killer new dress.
This topic has been covered, to say the least, but I'm looking at it from our post-covid lens (you know the one where we actually just want to be comfortable.) The idea is less about squeezing in to an uncomfortable gown that is too small to begin with, that you didn't get altered (more on that next week), and not eating a single morsel for the entire evening just for the sake of pulling off a 12th century badge of suffocating your organs...
but rather...
pulling on a soft cooling pair of boy shorts under your skirt so you can sit comfortably without your legs sweating and having to peel yourself away from the chair. Even better - get this: the evolution of undergarments and shapewear is such that some of these particulars you can just wear around the house and fall asleep in. Yep. They are, like, comfortable and soft.
After we finished all the design adjustments for our Emerson Jumpsuit - and there were many - we were suddenly intrigued by the versatility of the garment. You could dress this puppy way up or just normal spectactular, and you could wear it all day and into the night. There was something familiar about the one-piece jumpsuit fit and then I realized when I was packing my daughter's swim bag, the familiarity was from childhood when we just threw on our overalls or one piece terry jumpers. Aha moment!
So that all being said, when we design our collections, we take into account whether we would wear the pieces ourselves - two active, professional women with careers and mothers to a collective four kids. Some items are more forgiving than others, but strap and zipper placement, ease through the legs and loose jackets are all part of the mix.
Back to the aha moment, there is huge potential to increase the wearability of your closet just by wearing the right items underneath. Some benefits are obvious: compression and smoothing of your body under your clothes, slimming your figure and reducing wrinkles and folds in your ensemble. Less obvious might be how under-attire protects your prize wardrobe piece from the oils, lotions and perspiration of your skin. As it's the death valley of summer heat while I write this, i'm thinking primarily of dripping sweat and sticky skin mitigation, but I wore a super soft bodysuit in various styles from Everlane during a busy winter travel schedule to the Northeast and it was game-changing.
Bottom line: there are many winner brands and undergarments in our research. The best, however, are the garments that fit YOUR body best. Try them all. Don't force yourself into something that is too small. Buy several styles in both light and dark colors.
Specifics that we love & what to wear them with:
Honeylove "Super Powershort." $89
True shapewear but just the right amount of compression and ease with movement. Our more petite models raved about this fit. Pairs well with all dresses and skirts.
Commando "Classic Control High-Waisted Short." $72
Light compression, and we love the range of neutral colors. The raw edge hems are right up our style alley and these shorts stay put. Pairs well with all dresses and skirts.
Commando "Ballet One-Shoulder Bodysuit." $108
Light like a feather, slim and stretchy, not controlling. Great with the Burke Dress, Rhys Tank and Knox Tunic.
Thigh Society "The Staple." $39
One product wonder here, but we wore these all day in our office with a tee. Less compression here, this is for comfort and coverage under really any piece, pants to skirts and dresses. Several lengths available. We tried the staple in several lengths, but more options abound. Side note: I even wore the black pair on a run! Pairs well with all dresses and skirts.
Skims "Fits Everybody One Shoulder Cut-Out Bodysuit." $62
Found this as we were looking for just the right item for our asymmetric Burke Dress and Rhys Tank. Real good. As is the Seamless Sculpt Bandeau. And the Cotton Rib Onesie. No secret Skims is having a moment - yay - but drawback is many items sold out and colors are limited. Pairs well with the asym garments like the Burke Dress, Rhys Tank and Knox Tunic.
Everlane "Cutaway Tank Bodysuit." $40
Supima Cotton, sustainably sourced, soft. So versatile - under a blazer, under anything, visible or not, highly recommend, just wish they had more colors. Available in both bikini and thong. This is a favorite for sure and the item I wore all winter under ever darn thing. Pairs well with suiting sets under the Hollis Blazer with Sloane Pant, Livvy Pant.
Lululemon Ribbed Nulu Asymmetrical Yoga Bra. $58
Smaller chested winner! Sizing is confusing with this item, helps to start with measuring your band size just below your breasts. Pairs well with the asym garments like the Burke Dress, Rhys Tank and Knox Tunic.
Emily Marie Apparel Power Bra. $28
One-shoulder with removeable pads. We love the inclusive intention behind this brand and this bra works perfect with our asymmetric pieces. Comfy AF! Pairs well with the asym garments like the Burke Dress, Rhys Tank and Knox Tunic.

Buy Door Handles for Enhanced Style & Security – BeautifulHandle’s Expert Selection
Tumblr media
There’s something about the right door handle that can make a world of difference. When you walk into a room and reach for the door handle, the feeling of it in your hand sets the tone for the entire space. Have you ever walked into a room, turned the handle, and felt instantly unimpressed by its cheapness, its stiffness, or its worn-out appearance? It's a small detail, yet it can leave a lasting impression on the overall atmosphere of your home. But what if a simple upgrade could completely change your space for the better?
At BeautifulHandle.com, we believe that buying the right door handles can revolutionize not only the way your doors function but also how your home feels. No longer should you treat door handles as an afterthought. They are a crucial element of your home’s design and security. Whether you are looking to upgrade the aesthetic of your home or improve its functionality, here are eight game-changing reasons to buy door handles that not only meet your needs but exceed them.
1. The First Impression Begins With Your Door Handles
Imagine entering a room where the first thing you touch is a beautifully designed door handle. A handle that feels smooth, well-crafted, and secure. Now think about the opposite—a sticky, outdated, or flimsy door handle. Which of those scenarios would leave a better first impression?
Door handles are often the first tactile experience people have when entering your home. They set the stage for everything that follows. When you buy door handles from BeautifulHandle, you’re not just choosing a functional piece of hardware. You’re selecting a statement piece that sets the tone for the entire room. A stylish, well-chosen door handle can communicate that you care about every detail of your home. It enhances your home’s character and gives your space a sense of cohesiveness.
By purchasing door handles from BeautifulHandle, you are investing in a product that makes a lasting impression. Choose from sleek, minimalist designs for a modern look, vintage-inspired handles for a touch of nostalgia, or industrial styles that bring a raw, yet refined vibe to your doors. The key is to buy door handles that reflect your style and make visitors feel welcome as soon as they step inside.
2. Function Meets Form: The Best of Both Worlds
What good is a door handle that looks great but is impossible to use? Poor functionality can quickly ruin an otherwise stunning design. At BeautifulHandle, we understand the delicate balance between style and practicality. That's why our door handles are designed to be both visually appealing and functional, ensuring your daily routine is as smooth as possible.
When you decide to buy door handles from us, you don’t have to choose between form and function. Our extensive selection includes both lever handles, which are easy to use and perfect for high-traffic areas, and knob handles, which add a classic touch and are ideal for traditional homes. Lever handles, often used in kitchens and bathrooms, are particularly beneficial for people with limited hand strength, as they require less effort to operate. On the other hand, knob handles lend a timeless elegance to living spaces and can be the perfect finishing touch for vintage-inspired homes.
By purchasing from BeautifulHandle, you’re guaranteed to find a door handle that not only enhances the look of your home but also makes everyday life easier.
3. From Luxury to Simplicity: Handles for Every Budget
Not everyone has an unlimited budget for home upgrades, but that doesn’t mean you should settle for cheap, unattractive door handles. BeautifulHandle offers an array of high-quality options at different price points, so you can buy door handles that fit your budget without compromising on style or security.
Whether you're working on a high-end custom-built home or a budget-friendly apartment renovation, we have something for every price range. From affordable yet stylish handles to luxurious premium options, our curated collection ensures that you can buy door handles that meet your needs and enhance the beauty of your home.
Pro Tip: Luxury doesn’t have to come with an exorbitant price tag. At BeautifulHandle, you can find exquisite, budget-friendly handles that look high-end without the hefty price tag.
4. Testimonials: Why Our Customers Love Our Door Handles
Still unsure about making that purchase? Let’s hear what some of our satisfied customers have to say about their experience with BeautifulHandle:
“I never realized how much a door handle could change the feel of a room! The handles I bought from BeautifulHandle not only made my home look more polished but also function better. Every guest comments on them.” — Sophie L., Central London

5. Stats Prove That Door Handles Matter More Than You Think
It might seem like a small detail, but buying the right door handle is actually a wise investment that impacts your home’s security and aesthetic. Here are a few statistics to consider:
70% of homeowners believe that door hardware is a key element of their home’s overall style.
67% of renters would consider upgrading door handles and locks for better security.
45% of homebuyers say door handles and knobs are one of the first things they notice when touring a property.
Clearly, buying the right door handles isn’t just a small task. It’s an important decision that can make a big impact on both the security and the appeal of your home.
6. A Wide Selection of Styles to Match Your Space
At BeautifulHandle, we understand that every home is unique. That's why we offer a wide range of door handle styles to suit different tastes and interiors. Whether you're looking for sleek, modern designs in polished chrome, timeless brass finishes, or vintage-inspired options, we have something that will complement your existing décor.
Our selection includes everything from minimalist, smooth lever handles to ornate, antique-style knobs. With so many styles and finishes to choose from, it’s easy to find the perfect door handle to enhance your home’s personality. Whether you’re upgrading a single room or transforming your entire home, buying door handles that reflect your style can elevate the look of your space.
7. How to Choose the Right Door Handle for Every Room
Choosing the right door handle isn’t just about style—it’s also about function. Different areas of your home may require different types of door handles. When you buy door handles from BeautifulHandle, consider the following:
Living Room: Choose elegant handles that complement your home’s aesthetic. Sleek lever handles or minimalistic designs work well in modern spaces, while classic knobs are perfect for more traditional settings.
Bathroom and Bedroom: These spaces require privacy sets with locking functionality, which offer both security and peace of mind.
Entry Door: For exterior doors, choose durable handles with robust locking mechanisms to enhance both security and style.
Utility Spaces: Stainless steel knobs are great for high-traffic areas that need something both sturdy and stylish.

Last month, more than 42,000 people searched Google to figure out the right-sized rug for their room, according to research from machine-washable rug brand Ruggable. Recent research from e-commerce marketing platform Yotpo found that, according to reviews, rugs often miss the mark on size. About 35% of overall reviews are negative, based largely on the rug size. The rug either didn’t cover as much of the floor as they expected or it covered too much, according to Yotpo. Ruggable offers advice on its website from experts about how to pick the right size rug for hallways and outdoor areas, in addition to guidance for living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms and kitchens. Nourison Home has created several What Size Area Rug educational pieces that retailers can use to help educate consumers about how to choose the correct size rug for their rooms. The rug sizing tips are shown on large posters, banners and table cards that retailers can place in their showrooms. Kas Rugs offers visual room guides with illustrations on how to size the rug based on the furniture placement. For its part, Kas Rugs offers different size guides on its website as well as in the company’s catalog. “We also include them in our training manuals for new reps,” said Wendy Reiss, Kas Rugs vice president for sales and national accounts. “They are picture-focused so you can see exactly how a rug lays out.” Surya‘s website offers resources for people looking to find the perfect rug for their unique space. The company’s rug guide and video tutorial offer insights into different room configurations to help buyers decide which rug will work best. Wayfair also offers room-by-room layouts and tips on its website. “So, when it comes time to unroll the rug, it will be a perfect fit. Keep reading to learn how to measure for a rug in any room,” the website says.   Living rooms This living room scene from Surya illustrates the look of the “front legs on the rug” aesthetic. “For a small living room, choose a rug that accommodates the front legs of your sofa and chairs while leaving a border of visible flooring to make the space feel much larger. A 5′ x 7′ or 6′ x 9′ rug is often a great choice for rooms under 200 square feet. Also, depending on your style, I find that light or neutral-colored rugs with subtle patterns can create an airy feel, preventing the space from looking too cramped,” said Liza Garrison, Ruggable’s director of product. The rug should help define the seating area, according to Lindsey Zborowski, interior design manager at Wayfair. “A common rule is to have at least the front legs of sofas and chairs on the rug,” she said. “For larger living rooms, a rug that allows all furniture legs on top (like a 9′ x 12′ or 10′ x 14′) creates a cohesive feel. But keep in mind, it’s best to leave at least 12 to 18 inches of exposed floor around the rug’s edges to frame the space.” Reiss, from Kas Rugs, agrees with this advice. “If the rug is too big, the lack of uncovered space makes one think the room is actually smaller than it is.” Eric Nyman, vice president of sales and design at Surya, suggests that there are three possible solutions to determine the size of a living room rug: all legs on the rug, front legs on the rug and all legs off the rug. “If you prefer all legs on the rug, we advise creating a cohesive look with an area rug large enough to accommodate all your furniture,” he said. “The key to styling your seating area on top of a large rug is to ensure that the rug extends at least six inches past each piece of furniture.” For the front legs on the rug look, Nyman suggests tucking the rug under the front legs of the sofa and chairs to keep the seating area unified. The back legs of the sofa can be situated on or off the rug, depending on personal preference. If you’re working with a smaller room, consider a rug that floats in the center of the seating arrangement. A rug that is at least 5′ x 8′ works best in a room that is 10′ x 12′ or smaller. This would leave about two feet of flooring bordering the rug on each side, according to Nyman. Dining rooms Wayfair illustrates the proper rug size and placement for a smaller dining room. “When hosting the perfect dinner or gathering, having a well-decorated room really does help to bring everything together,” said Ruggable’s Garrison. The experts at both Ruggable and Wayfair suggest that, for a small dining room up to 150 square feet, consumers should choose a rug that extends at least 24 inches beyond all sides of the table to accommodate pulled-out chairs without the chairs catching on the edge. Medium-sized dining spaces can handle bolder patterns or darker hues without feeling overwhelming, according to Garrison. “In most cases, coordinating your rug’s design with your dining chairs, table, or room décor makes for the most cohesive look.” For larger rooms, Garrison suggested that buyers shouldn’t be afraid to add a touch of luxury like wool or high pile designs since they add warmth and sophistication. But the experts at both Nourison Home and Kas Rugs offer different advice, saying they would normally not recommend high pile rugs in a dining area since it makes it harder to move chairs away from the table. “I would suggest that lower pile rugs work best under dining tables due to a number of factors: cleanability and the ease of sliding a chair over the rug,” said Reiss from Kas Rugs. “There are other places for high pile rugs.” For a larger bedroom, Ruggable suggests laying the rug just in front of the nightstands, so it extends around the bed, creating a grounding effect. Nyman from Surya advises letting the dining chairs sit completely on the rug, with enough room to comfortably pull the chairs out and remain on the rug. “Ideally this would mean that your rug is larger than your dining table by at least 30 inches on all four sides,” he said. “For instances where the dining room table is round, you might consider using a round rug sized 8′ or more to complement and unify the space.” Bedrooms Like the look for living rooms, Nyman suggests there are three options for a bedroom rug including all the furniture on the rug, just the bed on the rug or runners on each side of the bed. “If you prefer all furniture on the rug, I recommend rugs 8′ x 10′ or larger for king- or queen-sized beds with adjacent nightstands,” he added. “It is best not to allow the rug to encroach upon any main walkways and, when possible, leave a minimum of two feet of soft rug underfoot around the bed.” If the room has attractive flooring but there is a need for cushioning for comfort, Nyman advises tucking a 6′ x 9′ rug under the bed just up to the nightstands so that only the lower two-thirds of the bed sit on the rug.  A more budget-friendly option for softness underfoot is to place two runners on either side of the bed. The runner should be a bit wider than the nightstand. The experts agree that as a rule, 9′ x 12′ tends to work well underneath king beds and 8′ x 10′ for under queen beds. “In smaller spaces, lighter or neutral-colored rugs can make the space feel larger and more open,” said Wayfair’s Zborowski. “While bright colors can add personality, they might visually shrink the space. If you prefer bold hues, opt for rugs with bright accents on a neutral base.” Nourison Home offers overhead shots of dining rooms and living rooms with furniture to illustrate the proper size of the rug. Color always makes a difference in small spaces, but it’s more about the color combinations and application, according to Giovanni Marra, Nourison Home’s vice president of marketing and creative. “For example, painting the walls in a small room a bright color and then painting the walls and trim white will make the room feel smaller,” he said. “But, if you paint all the walls, trim and ceiling the same color (color drenching), the room can feel more cohesive and visually larger.” Kitchens and hallways Placing a rug in the kitchen adds style and provides warmth and comfort underfoot during daily routines such as dining, cooking and washing dishes, according to Surya’s Nyman. “Regardless of the size and shape of your kitchen, the space in front of the sink is usually the best, most functional place for a rug,” he said. “Choosing the perfect rug size can transform a room, pulling the space together while adding warmth, texture and style,” said Reiss from Kas rugs. “However, getting it wrong can make even the most thoughtfully designed room feel awkward.” !function(f,b,e,v,n,t,s) if(f.fbq)return;n=f.fbq=function()n.callMethod? n.callMethod.apply(n,arguments):n.queue.push(arguments); if(!f._fbq)f._fbq=n;n.push=n;n.loaded=!0;n.version='2.0'; n.queue=[];t=b.createElement(e);t.async=!0; t.src=v;s=b.getElementsByTagName(e)[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(t,s)(window, document,'script', ' fbq('init', '693453330863834'); fbq('track', 'PageView'); Source link
