Lacuna - K.P.
tags: @blondeandfivefeeteven @you-know-i-get-itt !!
#my poetry#writing#prose#my writing#poem#poetry#by the way a Lacuna is a text that is considered untranslatable#or it can mean a cavity or depression (especially in bone)#inspired a little bit by that Richard Siken tweet where someone asks why they can only write when they're sad and he responds#“because the vocabulary of joy is grunts and moans and the vocabulary of loss is the dictionary”#“if you can point to it you dont need a word for it. you only need a word for when its no longer there.”#and yeah#love is an untranslatable feeling filling the magins of your ribcage#but what it does to you is just about everything in the entire world

[ID: Tweet by rey @.nyushinee that says "Mr. @.richardsiken why am I only capable of writing when I'm sad?" with two replies from Richard Siken that, together, say "Because the vocabulary of joy is grunts and moans and the vocabulary of loss is the dictionary. If you can point to it, you don't need a word for it. You only need a word for it when it's no longer there." End ID]

which is why the vocabulary of joy is grunts and moans, and the vocabulary of loss is the dictionary
loss is wailing without words, sure, and when you need to get words, you turn to the dictionary. you turn to an archive of words to give voice to your frustration and grief. once that subject of sorrow is gone, you can no longer point wordlessly to the source of your emotion. you need words to tell what that empty hole was, and what it is now.
its easier to find words for the things that are right there. you can look at them, and certain parts of them engage your mind to find descriptors.
when it is gone, you only have a memory. a longing for it to be in front of you again. you see it in everything and nothing. you no longer have easy to reach descriptors. you feel like a broken record, repeating the same thing over and over again, or not saying anything at all.
people write best when they are happy, or sad, because words flow to you to help you express what you are feeling, or they are so gone from you that you have to reach out and find a way to show others your emotions.
its human instinct to connect, to share.
