an update
Tumblr media
Not the update i want to be making...but after getting our youngest brother out last Tuesday, our other brother Ross became sick too. At first i thought it's probably covid again but he tested negative. I also thought it could be the weather because it was raining hard the past few days and we were staying near an overflowing, flooded tunnel. Turns out he has dengue and needs to be admitted too. His wbc is so low and there was blood in his urine. They're still observing him if he also has uti and needs to be on the dextrose for 3 days
I still cant believe the luck that we have and im not really sure what we did so wrong in life that unfortunate things keep happening to us this past 3 years
I want to thank everyone who helped us last time. Im ashamed to ask again but we're really at rock bottom now
This wont be as expensive as the covid isolation room but still costs $44 a night plus other medications and expenses
Anything helps and is appreciated please. Im sorry if i sound a little dull now, i havent been able to sleep and eat well the past few months. I really hope i still make it for my brothers

Ken Buchanan, arguably the best boxer Scotland has ever produced was born on June 28th 1945 in Edinburgh.
After turning pro in 1965 Ken Buchannan won both the Scottish and British lightweight crowns before traveling to the United States and gaining world-wide recognition.
In 1970, Buchanan, lost to Miguel Velasquez in Madrid, Spain, in a bid to capture the European 135-pound title. By year’s end, though, he’d conquer the world.
Buchanan challenged lightweight champion Ismael Laguna on September 26, 1970 in Puerto Rico. The temperature inside Hiram Bithorn Stadium reached 100-degrees as these master boxers put on a sterling exhibition. Buchanan rocked the champion in the 12th round and won the title via narrow split decision. He became the first fighter from the British Isles to take the lightweight crown since Freddie Welsh in 1917.
In 1971, Buchanan successfully defended his title twice, copping 15-round decisions over Ruben Navarro in Los Angeles and Laguna at Madison Square Garden in New York on a card ahead of Muhammad Ali and the late Joe Frazier A year later, Buchanan would return to the Garden for his most controversial and memorable contest.
On June 26th, 1972 Buchanan put his belt on the line against Roberto Duran (Duran scored an impressive kayo on the undercard of the Buchanan-Laguna rematch). Duran dropped Buchanan early and controlled much of the action. At the close of Round 13, the fighters swapped punches. Buchanan claimed he was kneed in the groin. Referee Johnny LoBianco, however, did not see the infraction. The fight was stopped before the 14th round could begin and Duran was rewarded with the victory and the title.
Buchanan came back three months later and stopped future Hall-of-Famer Carlos Ortiz in six rounds. In 1973, he decisioned future world champ Jim Watt to regain the British lightweight title. He lost in his only other world-title bid, dropping a decision in 1975 to WBC champ Ishimatsu Suzuki.
Buchanan was inactive from 1976 to 1978 and fought sporadically until retiring for good in 1983.
If Ken made money out of his boxing career it never made him rich, or he never held on to it going back to his old trade as a carpenter.. Many of my friends in the building trade have told me they worked on sites with him through the late 80's and the 1990's, he was described as an amiable man who was easy to get on with.
In 2022 Ken's family revealed he was suffering from Dementia, probably brought on through taking blows to the head during his career, he spent his last year or so in a Leith care home, In August last year he was able to make his final public appearance at the unveiling of his statue where he was serenaded with bagpipes in front of the crowd that was believed to be in the hundreds.
Ken Buchanan passed away peacefully in his sleep on Aplril 1st this year.
His funeral procession began in Leith and meandered its way past the former site of Sparta Boxing Club to St Giles on The Royal Mile where a memorial service was held a pair of white boxing gloves sat on his coffin.
The ‘Fighting Carpenter’ fought 69 times throughout his career, losing only eight and winning 27 by knockout.
The pics are my own of Ken's statue at Little King Street, there have been calls for it tobe moved to Leith, where he spent the vast majority of his life, I agree, I thinkit is somewhat hidden away where it is........

Look I know why it happens and all, but sometimes it is tiring to be a queer Christian (maybe religious in general? IDK I haven't seen much respect for other queer religious folk out there but it could be me being pessimistic, I'd love to hear from anyone out there that falls into these categories).
Like on one hand you get hit with conservative queerphobia even if you're not looking for it, and on the other hand your queer peers (understandably but still) go full Jimmy Neutron r/atheism from time to time unprompted. Like yeah sure I guess the easy solution would be to just stop being religious but I feel it doesn't go to the core of the issue.
It's impossible to talk about this in "typical" Christian spaces due to crypto right-wingers and extremely hard in queer spaces due to the eggshells people lay on the floor. Like when dealing with conservatives fuck you, I was born queer, God quite literally made me this way, deal with it. When dealing with anti-theist queer folks I understand religious abuse is horrifying, but it's genuinely hurtful that I'm treated as "one of the bad ones," an oppressor, or actively stupid simply for continuing to be religious, as if I haven't been also hit with religious abuse or as if I was part of an actively dangerous sect like WBC just for being Christian.
I guess my gripe comes down to the fact both sides, to varying degrees, don't think people like me deserve respect.

GTAW: Chapter 18 Notes
1. If you’re a baseball lover like myself, and want to learn more about Japan’s passion for the sport, and the differences between the American and Japanese philosophies, I’d recommend “You Gotta Have Wa: When Two Cultures Collide on the Baseball Diamond” by Robert Whiting. The two quotes above I got from this book.
But if you don’t want to do that, you can watch this 10 minute video instead.😜
A ⚾️ — Also, there’s no easy way to say this, but the only way to understand baseball is to watch a game. Multiple games, at that. You can watch complete games on YouTube or the MLB website. You can also watch instructional YouTube videos, but I can almost guarantee you’ll be left confused. There are a lot of unwritten rules in baseball and it can be difficult for a beginner to fully grasp them right off the bat (see what I did there?😉). However, I found some videos that might help as you learn.
Brief history of baseball in America (funny/dark humor)
I would also be remissed if I didn’t mention anything about The Negro League. Very important stuff, especially when explaining how baseball first came to Japan.
⭐️The different kinds of pitches.
The history of the baseball cap.
⭐️The official rules of baseball.
B ⚾️ — Major League Baseball (MLB) is the #1 pro baseball organization in the United States (and Canada). It comprises 30 teams and is divided into two leagues: the Nation League (NL), and the American League (AL).
The regular MLB season consists of 162 games a year.
The annual championship of the MLB is known as the World Series. Why it is called the World Series when it’s only held in the United States (and Canada)? Good question. I have absolutely no clue. Chalk it up to American arrogance, I guess.
The MLB is responsible for maintaining and interpreting the official rules of baseball. All international leagues, including those in Korea, Japan, Taiwan, the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Venezuela, you name it, more or less adhere to the official rules of baseball as codified by the MLB. Think of baseball as a regulated good, like champagne or Swiss chocolate.
And to put money in perspective, The New York Yankees are the most valuable MLB team, worth an estimated $7.1 billion alone, which doesn’t even count the other 29 teams, many of whom also range in the billions and multi-millions.
C ⚾️ — The Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) is the #1 professional baseball organization in Japan. Locally it is called the Puro Yakyū. It comprises 12 teams and like the MLB is also divided into two leagues: The Central League (CL), and the Pacific League (PL).
The regular NPB season consists of 130 games a year.
The annual championship of the NPB is called the Japan Series, which makes sense, unlike the MLB.
The two most successful teams in NPB history are the Yomiuri Giants and the Hanshin Tigers.
D ⚾️ — The World Baseball Classic is the FIFA World Cup of baseball, though not as many countries participate. It’s only been around since 2006 and sometimes crazy drama happens and it’s awesome. Most baseball lovers (and I’m thinking specifically of snobbish Americans) consider the World Series to be the ultimate championship, not the WBC, but try telling that to the Japanese.😂
Fun fact. Team Japan were the first WBC champions in 2006 and they are this year's 2023 champions as well. Pretty neat. I watched the game. It was electric. Congratulations Japan!!!🥳🎉🎊👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
E ⚾️ — In the past it was heavily frowned upon for a Japanese player to sign with an MLB team, mainly for two reasons: One, Japanese natives didn’t like their top athletes playing away overseas. And two, it was seen as a selfish money grab. (MLB players get paid A LOT more than their international counterparts.) Although, nowadays when a Japanese player makes it to “the Bigs” it’s seen as an act of national pride, which is why Satoru has a Seattle Mariners “away” jersey (Ichiro Suzuki) and a St. Louis Cardinals “home” jersey (So Taguchi). 🇯🇵
F ⚾️ Satoru says he doesn’t have a favorite player, but when Shohei Ohtani steps onto the scene that all changes. He develops a HUGE man-crush on the guy and won’t shut up about him:
SATORU: The man is a beast, Hannah. A Beast!!!😤
HANNAH: Yes, dear, we know. You’ve said it a million times already.😒
2. Here, Satoru quotes from the Inquiry of Urga. While not a major religious text, I’d like to think Satoru is well versed in many texts. It’s also worth noting that most Japanese are not religious, but I think religion makes the plot more interesting.
3. Okashi Gaku’s “Cake in a Can.”
Overview of some Japanese vending machines. I would love having a security goat. 🐐 I pass on the bugs though.🐜🐜🐜
4. Koishikawa Kōraku-en (Garden for Taking Pleasure Later) really is located right next to the Tokyo Dome as is an amusement park.
The “Big O” Ferris wheel.
Going up inside Tokyo Tower.
The Skytree is actually twice as tall as Tokyo Tower, but I think Tokyo Tower is prettier and more romantic since it’s modeled after the Eiffel Tower, so that was my rationale.
I have no idea whether Hannah would be able to see all of Tokyo from that height, but let’s pretend. Tokyo is massive.
5. This is also a good thing to point out, but my beta reader asked me why I didn’t mention anything about sumo wrestling, since it is technically Japan’s official national sport. Long story short, sumo has been embroiled in a lot of scandals recently and is not as popular with younger audiences. That being said, sumo will never disappear from Japan and holds great cultural significance, but viewership wise, baseball is more popular than sumo. However, you can watch this short video and decide for yourself.
Here is also a brief history of sumo.

Just got my pre-hysterectomy bloodwork back!
Tests are expensive, of course, so I haven’t had a full rundown since June 2019, just the hemoglobin (hgc) to check how my chronic bleeding due to uterine fibroids was going.
When I was saying I was at like a third of the amount of blood I should have?
Ouch, was I dangerously close…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Obviously, I don’t know much about some of these, but RBC and WBC are easy enough to recognize as “Red Blood Cell” and “White Blood Cell,” and those look scary.
And the Platelets being just about the only thing that had been in a normal range - all my body could successfully try do was try to stop the hemorrhaging.
Which explains the almost palm sized blood clots I was passing at points.
Still hilarious that the 5.5 hgb test result was just two weeks after I’d spent an entire day walking at the State Farm, taking quick breaks after confronting the constant low hills of the grounds.
Considering 5.1 was when my vision was blacking out trying to walk down a hallway…

What is a Hematology Analyzer? How to Choose the Right One?
Hematology analyzers are used to conduct hemograms or full blood counts. They do quantitative and qualitative examinations of platelets, white blood cells, and red blood cells. These are primarily utilized in hematology departments of hospitals or laboratories that analyze medical biology. Hematology analyzers provide the benefit of speed, as the analysis procedure is often automated and requires little to no operator intervention. Additionally, this has the benefit of increasing precision and reducing errors. The second advantage is Accurate, which produces outcomes with better distinctiveness. Its adaptability is the major point.
Alfarsi is the Leading Hematology Analyzer Supplier in Muscat, Oman, offers the best hematology analyzers that are useful for your laboratories. When it comes to selection, you should consider some points while choosing the right hematology analyzers.
Product Features and Specifications: Features of the analyzers will differ. Making the right decision therefore depends on your specific testing needs. These instruments often offer features like an easy-to-use software interface, automatic quality assurance processes, a single button operator interface, and straightforward programming options. Pick a model that can swiftly produce accurate, dependable results.
Choosing The Right Brand: One of the most important factors in purchasing hematology analyzers is brand selection. The greatest hematology analyzers are available from Alfarsi.me, the top Laboratory Equipment Supplier in Muscat, Oman, and they are beneficial for your labs.
Consider Lab Space: Laboratories with limited room should utilize a space-saving model. Alfarsi, for instance, offers hematological analyzers, which free up crucial countertop space in clinics, blood banks, and other facilities like physician’s office laboratories (POLs). They eliminate the need for huge liquid chemicals and diluents, providing speedy and precise CBC results.
Accuracy: The measurement of the CBC, or complete blood count, is one of the most important laboratory tests. Six independent automated blood cell counters were used in this experiment, and the results showed that the CBC was highly accurate. The correlation between these instruments’ CBC counts was strong as well. On the other hand, the accuracy of aberrant samples depended on the equipment being used and the specifics of the clinical situation. In 1996, the NCCLS H26-A issued a recommendation for automated multichannel hematology analyzers’ internal quality control.
Basic analyzers provide a three-part differential white blood cell (WBC) count along with a complete blood count (CBC). You must follow above points while buying hematology analyzers for your lab. Alfarsi, the Leading  Laboratory Equipment Supplier in Muscat, Oman caters to the needs of specialized stand-alone medical laboratories or in-house clinical laboratory business in worldwide. We work together with our customers in helping the patients with clinical specimens for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.
Give us a call if you want additional details on laboratory settings, hematology analyzers and specific information for your next laboratory project.

The ‘Fighting Carpenter’ fought 69 times throughout his career, losing only eight and winning 27 by knockout

PART VII - Another Body, Another Life
Fyrligh pulled and strained frantically at her shackles, biting back tears that threatened to flow down her face. Matiz did nothing to alleviate the burning, watching the matter lap at her frail figure with sickening glee. As if this was all just a mere.. Game. Lives were at stake, and he’s playing with them like insignificant toys.
“Puh-please,” she begged, “m-make it sto-stop..”
He didn’t reply, just continued smiling down at her. He wouldn’t stop this for the world. Not until he got what he wanted- Until he’s erased each and every single imperfection, each flaw he saw in her. Until she could stop crying, and take it all in. Like a good girl. A good girl she was raised to be. The cold, tainted Void inched farther up her skin, completely coating the tips of her toes now. There was less and less room for her to run to- So why not take the easy way out and run? Run towards the Keiyan and be accepted as its holder.. As HIS protector. ..No. Over her used, already-dead body. A life? On a child!? That was pure insanity if she had any say about this. Fyrligh wasn’t letting Matiz get his way so soon- Even if it meant she had to suffer through it. No. Vu had taught her better. She wasn’t letting her big sis down any time soon. ..if she still was alive, that is. Wherever Fyrligh was now- It clearly wasn’t of the Oasis. It felt new. Too new. Like she had jumped forward into a whole new timeline. The only familiar things were Matiz, the layout of the lab, whatever the heck Matiz was doing right now, and the alluring glow of the blue orb. It knew her, and called her home. “Just accept it, my dear. It’ll all go faster-.. And you won’t need to spend more hours in the lab, with lil ole me. I know how much you h a t e~ The serum.” Bitter. Fishy. Sticky on her body, in her throat. Wrong inside her. She could feel the chill running through her veins. The side-effects. Mere recalls just made her shudder. Not to mention the odd stink, and if there leftovers be- How flaky it felt when it dried. He’s left it on her many times before in the Oasis. Not even bothering to clean her up- Since it did heal her. Burns, scratches, bruises, scars- All gone with a few dabs, a few injections. Fyrligh loathed it all. At how.. Easy it seemed. Someone gets hurt, most likely her. Boom, Rissanc. Get better in a few hours to a few days, depending on the injury, dosage, and the tactic used to administer said chemical. Where was the pain? The natural healing process? The growth? At this point, let her be a ragdoll. Used to one’s pleasure.
The matter had already reached up her legs, ever-so-slowly painting her skin in dark, molten hues. Specks of color, yet dull and muted due to being mixed in with Void. Impure. Unwhole. Abnormal. Mutant. Freak. It was all she was, all she’s known, and all she’ll ever be. Nothing would change.
———
Or is that really how it ought to end? Everything will change. You should know.. Being who you are. Am I right, S  e   r. . . …
The quiet beeping of her computer brought Polar from her nap, a few notes fluttering to the floor with her slow rousing. Gods, her head.. She needed to take a painkiller, stat. The raven-haired woman groaned, brushing away a few stray locks from her face, quickly popping a pill and downing it with a sip of- Ahh, good old lemonade. It had lost its cool over the night, but hey, still drinkable. Making her way to the table, Polar pulled the flasks from their trays, sitting down, dark brown eyes absentmindedly scrolling through the stats and vitals. Everything seemed normal- From the hemoglobin to the leukocytes. There was a higher count of WBC, but that made sense since the redhead was attacked on that night and was still probably healing. Maybe she still was. Polar hoped the redhead was alright. She wasn’t going out of her lab lately- Not to mention the lack of explosions, yells, or faint sounds of destroying crystal. And with Rou? That was saying a lot. It was like she was bracing herself for.. Something. For what, she wasn’t exactly sure. Maybe it had something to do with her request? Right- Rou asked to check for chems and hCG.
“C’mon, c’mon, I know I added you in here-”
Ah.
Well, this certainly was something new.
Wonder how she’ll take this? Polar dragged her cursor over the information that Roulette asked for, before hooking her computer to the printer. Sure, the raven-haired woman could just walk on over and tell her the news, but that just seemed dull and unprofessional. It wasn’t much of a wise idea, keeping someone waiting- But there was just more finality, in having papers ready to be presented. May the stars strike her down for this.
———
“No, no, no, no, no, no. It- It can’t be.” Rou’s hands shook, as she glared straight at the screen, tears pricking the sides of her eyes. This had to stop. Matiz has been known to go the lengths for his experiments- But GODS. This? This was too far. Too far- For the both of them. ..how long has he had her? How has she not known about this- That she wasn’t.. The original? Well- Nilly was a given, of course, but- She couldn’t handle it. The redhead turned away from the screen, willing herself to face away from the child- Her child self. Oh, that sick fucker. He was gonna use herself against her. The kid as the Keiyan’s holder- Stars, what was he thinking!? Gaddammit. He knew. He knew she couldn’t bear to touch kids. Much less.. Her own self. One she could change for the better. Her stomach turned and clenched, making her feel queasier than ever- Her legs buckling from underneath her as she resisted the urge to vomit- Again. Gods, she hated this so much. She was so.. Sensitive to everything. Smells, noises, even textures- If Matiz was asking her to actually mother the child- He was mistaken. No, Roulette would never see herself as such, having none herself. That was Nilly’s job. Being kind, nurturing, protective- Those were traits that she had. But having the gall, the mentality, the responsibility to raise and train a child? How can you expect her to do that when she barely raised herself? Back at the island, it was Vu from the start- And Rou to the end. Vulpes, her older sister. The one who took Rou and raised her- For both her bodies. How much did she know? How far did she go to hide that fact from her childish mind? ..Like she hid so many others. ‘She’s.. What?’ ‘The town hole, Fyrligh. Our mother is a whore. Why else do the other guys look at us like we’re pieces of meat?’ ‘..Cause we’re pretty.’ The brunette in front of the scrawny redhead barked a laugh, throwing her head back before ruffling the kid’s hair. ‘We are pretty. But we’re also not objects. If anyone around ya is being treated as such- Run. To them. And kick their ass outta that mindset, you hear me? No one deserves that.’ ‘O-okay, Vu.’ ‘Atta girl.’ No one deserves being treated as an object for another’s pleasure. Roulette didn’t want to do this- But if worse comes to worse, then this she gotta do. She won’t lay down and do nothing- Not with this fucking kid in that hellhole- Not with all these annoying ass dizzy spells, headaches, and urges to dig up a burrow and stay there for eternity.
Picking up her phone, she scrolled down through her contacts, and pressed SEND. Ugh. No going back now, Rou. ——— It was a tight spot that he was in right now. To his right stood a swordsperson, alert and watching his every move. His front, a badger, large and fierce, ready to pounce at any moment. There was no way for him to retreat, and it was unclear whether the left was safe for him to tread. From the outside eye, it seemed like all hope was lost for this skeleton.
Not to fret. He knew what to do.
Taking a few steps to the left, he stretched his arm out sideways- Gentle, calm. The badger narrowed its eyes at him, unsure of this new change. He snapped his fingers together, urging the animal to come closer. Free meat was free meat.
Don’t wait. Just.. Strike.
B-BEEP B-BEEP B-BEEP
The holographic scene around him faded away, and Matiz had to suppress a groan. His hand whipped back, ready to strike- But he held himself back when he saw the words floating mid-air before him. The mixed metal dog in front of him flinched, its ears pinning back slightly as the skeleton leaned closer to read them. Parts of tainted, human nature still shone within his creation.. Disgusting. It was bad enough that he had the eyes and hair. But the personality… It disgusted Matiz.
“There, there, R30N. It was a notification, nothing serious,” he softly crooned, words dipped in sarcastic sweetness. “But trust me, if you did do that on purpose- Which I know you wouldn’t, for I programmed you to follow all orders-”
A small blob of Tainted Void appeared in his palm, floating innocently before being roughly squashed by long, sharp phalanges, the matter dripping through the hole in his hand to the floor.
“You know the consequences.”
The dark-plated creature before him whined softly, before backing away, leaving Matiz’s phone on the counter. The latter scoffed. Pathetic. Still a boy. Guess there are some things that don’t change, even with mass training.
That doesn’t concern him anymore, however. What did was the message that came from an unknown number.
- USER_1487 IS TYPING… - USER_1487: Let her go. ME: Oh? Or what? USER_1487: You’ll have hell to pay. ME: I’ve been there already. USER_1487: Not my hell. ME: I’ll watch for you. I made your hell, anyway. ME: Don’t worry. I’ll make it as painful as I can for you. You made my hell, thus I shall repay my debt.
Closing the messaging app, Matiz couldn’t stop himself from breaking into laughter. HAH! He got her, he actually got the damned girl in his hands. Silly girl.
Walking straight~! Into the bear’s den.
———
“So your- Ugh- Plan here, is to barge right into the snake’s den, waltz through his burrows, grab the kids, and get out.” Nilly drew a sharp breath, her face contorting in a wince as her hand went to press lightly on her torso. She brought her free hand up however when Rou started towards her, making the redhead freeze in place. “And one of those kids.. Is a child you, who is somehow preserved and still functional after- What now, a hundred and twenty-something years?” “Yep.” The onyx-haired woman smacked her lips, before blowing out a sigh. Gods, this damned badger. “I’m taking it. What do we do?” Rou shook her head, rummaging through her bag and placing a few papers down for the latter to pick up and read. “Not ‘we,’ Nils. Me. You’re gonna sit there and play chauffeur.”
Excuse? Just because Nilly had a burning, aching pain in her side, just because the Void was unstable, just because she’s been feeling a little moody lately- And the former decides that she couldn’t assist her on this mission? ..It made sense, though. The Voidborne was too much of a risk to actually use- And due to how often the burns happen nowadays, Nillyx would be more a liability than an asset. All she could do was wait, watch, and warn in her state. Her eyes filled with resolution, faint hints of sullenness poking through as they scanned the papers. They were a mixed margin of notes and observations- Giving insight on how the redhead was to break herself out. “You’re the Keiyan?” “..Seems Matiz-y enough. Cams I set up detected bluish light in the back corner. Whole place was Voided. I saw the kid in the middle, trying to hold herself together.” The Guardian perked up at that. Using Void to force another into submission- A child. It was sick. But then again, that was Matiz. A twisted, vile thing who only seeks his own success, regardless of the outcome of others. That was the light Rou painted him in- A hue of truth. “..Hey. Nilly.” A firm hand on her shoulder pulled out of her thoughts, the muddled haze around her mind clearing out, as garnet eyes met darkest of hickory. “I understand, Rou. What matters, is that you and the kids are safe.” Rou kept looking at her. Man. She knew her too well. “..And maybe secure the Keiyan as well.” “Knew it.” The redhead rolled her eyes, shaking her head at the other before lightly patting her shoulder. A look of understanding was exchanged between the two, before they stepped away from each other. The night was young. There were things waiting to happen- Maybe history to be made.
The bell, nestled safely in her pocket was just a reminder of that. Nillyx had found the thing attached to her clip the night after the Gala. She had a faint memory of the dog gently pushing it in her clip, before laying down beside her. Even through all that change- He was still just a boy. Who still remembers, even by a bit. Areon, I’ll get you back. Even if you aren’t the boy I once knew, you’re still my son.
———
Dragging her fingers up the sides of her leg, Fyrligh marveled at how smooth the transition was. From pale, wrinkled, and sickly- Obvious signs of rot and decay- Drifting up into bright, sallow, yet somewhat healthy skin. She softly picked at the puckered tissue, watching it tear away bit by bit the more she prodded. It didn’t hurt much, though. Just.. Numbness. A small bang sounded from above, making her flinch. ..Must probably be the dog getting punished again. The kid couldn’t help but feel sorry for the thing. Its eyes were too warm, too bright, too.. Too human. He probably was.
“Rou called him Areon. I wonder who he was before Matiz. Before.. R30N.” She sighed, leaning her head against the wall, recounting the events of the past few weeks. Besides when she first woke up, nothing new happened. Days started to fade into a repetitive blur, mundane. Without change, just moving in a cycle of experiments, failures, and the cold, yet alluring glow of the Keiyan- Welcome me. Accept me as your whole. I’ve chosen you. Fyrligh shook her head, a sharp ringing filling her ears as the whispers poked and prodded at her brain. They just kept growing louder each time she was exposed- The ringing becoming worse the longer she stayed within a 10 foot radius of the stone. She couldn’t keep resisting the call. It was what she was brought here to do, to be. The girl knew that much. But it still didn’t feel right. Shouldn’t she at least have a choice? She was still her own person. Just because she was sold at birth, revived, killed, RErevived, and genetically preserved for the stars know how long doesn’t mean that she gets to be completely owned by some mother…fucker. Huh. She never swore before. Not even in her thoughts. Felt right. Matiz technically did do her biological mom. As well as over half the males in the village- Dare she say all? Town hole, they called her. Town holes were her female offspring. That’s what happened to her three elder sisters- Including Vu. All shipped away to older men, newer worlds. Fyrligh always wondered what lie on the outside of her Oasis. Guess she’ll never know- Seeing as her life was practically stuck in this..
“Damned lab.” A new voice. Fyrligh perked up, hand moving to the scalpel she hid under a piece of loose flooring. For a high-end lab, Matiz took care to put her in one of the ugliest rooms ever. And not just ugly- Hella cold, too. But it made sense, since it was close to the Void.. And the room where the Keiyan is stored. Just next door. A shadow loomed from outside, sliding from the small gap under the door. Closer, closer- Reaching forward and coating the tips of her legs in the darkness. Tall, lean, and menacing- Although not as skinny as Matiz. There was obvious hair in the silhouette- Possibly human. Or bot. The person froze, tilting their head, before backing away, only the top of their head poking from under the door. It fell quiet. Too quiet. But Fyrligh heard it. The quiet rumbling of something from below. It wasn’t around her- But it was eerily close. It snaked around the walls, the doors- Scanning, searching for something. And then crystal formed around the loose floorboard. The child flinched, scalpel pointed at the foreign matter with shaking hands, garnet eyes wide as she tried to make her way to the far edge of the room- But she fell through the floorboards, falling and flailing through the air instead. Her mouth opened to let out a panicked yelp- But was muffled by a rough, calloused hand. The former raised her scalpel to strike- But was found holding nothing. Her body was tense as she wriggled against her captor- Her other hand finding its way behind her back, being held close by the silhouette. “Hey- hey- Shut. I’m trying to get you out here.” ..Rou?
“I’m gonna let you go now. Don’t run.”
With a small nod, the child was placed gently on the cool marble tile, being spun around to face the latter. It was.. Unreal, seeing herself so.. Different. It was like looking into a mirror- Only the mirror reflected the future. Even the voice was alike- Just deeper, more mature- With a rasp, and a silly mix of an accent. She could hear the undertones of the Oasis embedded in the dips and the way her voice trembled ever-so-slightly at the ends- Mixed with something else. The city’s hold, perhaps.
But one thing that blew her off wasn’t how boyish she seemed, or how many scars that littered her arms. It was the eyepatch. A large flower, seeming to bloom from the skin itself- It was such a pretty little thing. But what lied under? What happened to the garnet orb?
“My eye’s a long story. Let’s just say.. The experiments didn’t stop from Matiz.”
The former sighed, running a hand through her hair, before nodding at the kid.
“C’mon. Do you know where the Keiyan is?”
“..We can’t take it. I-if it’s removed from the Void- It’ll just call the Void closer, opening the hole. Matiz will get stronger this way. It’s best to c-confine it.”
Fyrligh can feel the stares. She was thinking, judgemental of whether to accept this new information. Fyrligh could tell. She should know herself.. Right?
“Whatever you say, kid. Let’s go. We can’t waste any more time standing around or someone might find us.”
“R-right.”
———
ALERT! UNIDENTIFIED PERSON SPOTTED NEAR [ KEEPER ] QUARTERS DISPATCH IMMEDIATELY
So far, nothing.
R30N didn’t want to deal with this. He was oddly exhausted- Wanting for a safe, warm spot to curl up and.. Read? Be read to? A hazy memory of a crackling fire came to mind, a toothy grin in front of him- Patchy hands bearing papers and stickers, placing them on what seemed to be his face. He felt his mouth lift up at that. There were so many questions rolling through his circuit board. And so far- All he’s gotten were more questions than answers. Matiz kept his files locked up tight. He couldn’t find anything online about Nillyx, either. No social media accounts- There were subscriptions to stuff like Yefflix, Mawmazon, normal adult-y stuff. Minus the ‘adult-y’ stuff. But besides that- She was as clear to him as his past was. Which was, in fact, not at all clear. More like staring into a stone wall.. A dull, smooth stone wall. No edges, cracks, bumps- No crystal shards lining the floor- Wait. That wasn’t there before. The room where the Keiyan’s vessel was stored was empty. No trace of the kid- Just a mound of crystal under a floor..board? The build of the room was completely different from the build of the hallway beyond. The quality seemed to deteriorate- Becoming shabbier, more humble. As if a part of a shack was placed smack dab in the middle of a mansion. It was just a metal box with a dingy light above- A small dresser standing to the side, a smaller cot laying to the other side of the room. ..This is how she lived? R30N’s ears perked up suddenly. There was a sound of a click, and a woosh. Quiet whispers echoed throughout the hallway- And just beyond, he could hear the faint humming of the city. A window hung open at the end of the hallway. Coming closer, he could see a rickety-looking staircase of crystal flowing down- Two redheaded figures making their way to a grey van parked on the other side of the street. R30N winced at the thought of having to go down those bumpy-looking stones- But if he had to, he would. Front paws out- He did not like this not one bit- They landed softly on the crystal. Down, down, down he went- Stumbling and fumbling a bit. Gods he hated walking like this- MADE IT. THANK THE STARS. His ears twitched, numbers and scraps of code flashing before his eyes, hindering his vision, making him freeze. He couldn’t. Not now. He had to get to the van, too.
PROCESSING DATA. OBJECTIVES: - ATTACK UNIDENTIFIED USER - ATTAIN THE VESSEL - RETURN TO [ CREATOR ] Matiz: PROCEED.
..No. He was done following this stupid code. Outsider or not- They were still human. They get choices. And so does he. And R30N says no. Matiz: YOU WILL PROCEED. I PROGRAMMED YOU TO DO SO, R30N. DON’T FORGET WHO YOU BELONG TO. The figures grew smaller and smaller.
Matiz: GO AFTER THEM. NOW.
Running. They’re running. They spotted him, and they’re running.
Matiz: YOU WILL BE PUNISHED SEVERELY FOR THIS TRAITOROUS BEHAVIOR.
He didn’t care. If Matiz wasn’t going to budge about his past, then neither would he. Plus, keeping a child in a dingy box did nothing to up his favor points.
Matiz: IT SEEMS YOU AREN’T PAYING ATTENTION. VERY WELL. I SUPPOSE I’LL HAVE TO USE THIS. YOU ARE A DISAPPOINTMENT.
..What? A small tinkle of a bell could be heard, drifting from above, reaching s t r a i g h t- Into his core. No. A shudder ran through the dog’s body, from the tips of his ears to the ends of his tail. No, no, no. Don’t lose control. Not now. Not while.. They’re so close. But his body refused his calls, taking large, pained bounds forward. A growl exited from his mouth- But he didn’t recall ever letting it loose.
R E T R I E V E   T H E   V E S S E L
No.
E L I M I N A T E  U N I D E N T I F I E D  U S E R
No, no, this wasn’t what he wanted. This wasn’t- No, no, no. Teeth bared, gnashing, clawing- The sound of metal grinding, whirring, echoing in his ears. Yells. A scream. Grunts of pain- The faint taste of iron coating his lips. No. No. No. Please. Stop. He felt a dull pain go through his left shoulder, and he staggered back, grunting softly as crystal bullets pierced his exoskeleton. Waves of smooth stone pushed him back roughly- And R30N found himself on his back, warning signals flashing in his eyes.
Matiz: GET UP. THEY’RE ESCAPING.
..He had no more energy to do so. Red lights blared in the corners of his vision- The last thing he saw before blacking out was a limp body, being carried into the van- Before it zoomed away. ..At least.. They got away. That’s what mattered.

In today’s press conference hosted by renowned combat sports journalist Ariel Helwani, Paul, Perry, Serrano, Morgan, Sylve, Bahdi, Chavez Jr., Hall, Aguilar, and Marksmen had plenty to say about the upcoming event:
 JAKE PAUL QUOTES:
On whether he watched any footage of Perry: He had a boxing match in a triangle that I gained a lot of knowledge from. Lot of openings. It's gonna be a short night, Ariel.
On what he has to look out for in Perry’s skillset: The skills is what pay the bills. And he has no footwork, no head movement, no defense. He's a great offensive fighter and bare knuckle, but in terms of boxing, he's going to get picked apart very quickly, and it's going to be a short night. Like I said, my predictions are never wrong, so I stand on business every single time I manifested into reality. I Jake Joseph Paul will knock out Mike Perry in less than two rounds. It's going to happen, put money on it.
On what the rationale was to take the fight and the difference between Tyson and Perry: To stay getting experience under the bright lights on my world, on my path to World Championship. And that's what matters, is getting the experience under the bright lights. And this is a Mike appetizer. Mike warm up, but they're both killers at the end of the day, and I do have to be sharp. He does have one punch knockout power that I do have to respect. But other than that, it's going to be easy.
On Conor McGregor telling press that Perry was fighting a ‘dweeb’ in Jake Paul: Well, first of all, he's big up in BKFC, but you're going to see what I'm going to do to their best fighter on Saturday night. I'm going to embarrass their entire league. This guy has no skill; those are just brawler idiot street fighter dudes who have no idea what the sweet science is. Conor McGregor can say what he wants, but he won't fight me either. Once I knock out Mike Perry, Conor McGregor, let's run it. But you won't do it because you know what's going to happen. You saw what I did to Nate Diaz, who you went toe-to-toe with. Conor McGregor, lay off the cocaine, get in the gym, and start winning fights. Then maybe we could have a conversation.
On why he chose to take a dangerous fight despite Mike Tyson’s concerns: This is what I do. I'm here to fight. I love to take risks and do big events. Mike Tyson called and was concerned about this fight jeopardizing the biggest fight of my career. That's what puts the pressure on me, and I love that. I'm not slowing down for anybody. Mike Perry is not going to be the one to stop me. I'm on a path to World Championship. I'm not slowing down for anybody.
On what his biggest concern with the fight is: He's unorthodox. That's about it. So the first 30 seconds to a minute, just find my timing in range. That's then the fight's over. That's really about it.
On whether he’ll fight Perry in MMA: Yes, let's go after this. After I knock him out on Saturday, let's sign the contract for some MMA. I'll choke you out too.
On the decision to choose Perry as the opponent: This came about because he has a crazy fan base. And anytime I would post an Instagram picture over the last like 18 months, one of the top comments would always be fight Mike Perry. Fight. Mike Perry, you're scared of Mike Perry, and so I love to prove people wrong and take the fights that no one thinks I'm going to take.
On how his skill has improved: This past year has been a different Jake Paul showing up into the gym, learning in the gym, and I really haven't been able to display my skills because of the first round knockouts, and likely that'll happen again on Saturday, but I really have so many tools in the shed that I'm ready to pull out and get warmed up as the rounds go on, and just display all the new things we've Been working on.
On coming back to Tampa:  There's magic in this place. I love fighting in Florida and Tampa. The energy when I knocked out Woodley was amazing, one of the best moments of my life. I wanted to come back for another highlight reel KO.
Mike Perry Quotes:
On whether he has to get the win for not only himself but for the MMA community: I’m doing it for everybody, for me, for the fans, for BKFC, for MMA, you know, just mainly for me, because I believe in myself and my boxing ability. I'm a brawling boxing mug, so I'm ready to get in the ring with Jake and have some fun.
On how he has evolved since his last professional fight: I've been winning since then. There's all I know. I've been victorious. I've been succeeding consistently, and I've been getting better every single day. Put this little twerp in his place. He's new to this game. Welcome. Welcome. You just got here.
In response to Paul saying Perry has no boxing experience: Don't worry, you're going to get what you've been asking for, the fight to go longer than one round. Imma give you hell in the first round, and you'll get tired. You're going to be grasping for air. I made a new word, grasping.
On what makes him different from Diaz and other MMA fighters who Paul has fought: This is my chance to show the world what a real fighter can do in boxing. Those other guys were long past their prime.
Amanda Serrano Quotes:
On the trash talk from Stevie Morgan: Listen, I don't pay attention to that. That doesn't win fights, that doesn't pay my bills. I go out, I train hard, I fight hard, and you'll see Saturday night.
On if she is looking past Morgan with the Katie Taylor fight coming up: This is my 50th fight and I’ve never overlooked an opponent.
Stevie Morgan Quotes:
On her previous comment that Serrano is the weakest of the fighters at the top: I’m not being disrespectful at all, I’m just stating facts. If I had to fight any of the fighters at the top, Amanda is the one I’d choose mainly because she’ll make me look good… she’s on her way out, she could have retired two years ago.
On if Amanda is overlooking her for Katie Taylor: I don't think she looks past any opponent, but she shouldn't be for sure. One thing for sure, I am a professional, been in this game for 15 years, this is my 50th fight, and I never overlooked any opponent.
Lucas Bahdi Quotes:
On what it was like to get the call asking to be on the card: I've been waiting for an opportunity like this, a big opportunity, a big stage. This is obviously my toughest fight, his toughest fight by two undefeated fighters. It's gonna be a great fight.
H2O Sylve Quotes:
On what his assessment of Bahdi is: From what I saw in very fundamentally sound, he has a real right hand. I think that's the best attribute on this side.
Tony Aguilar Quotes:
On the previous split decision ruling in his first match with Marksman and if it would have been different were he in better shape: It wouldn't have been even close enough, and then even tried to call it a draw, you know, I mean, but Saturday, we will right that wrong, like they said, you know, because it was the wrong decision. But we will make sure they know on Saturday.
Corey Marksman Quotes:
On what he learned from the split decision between him and Aguilar: I'd say, don't take anything for granted. You know, you might think that you're in the lead, you might think that you're winning the fight, but at the end of the day, the judges are the ones that decide that. So you gotta really go out there and take what’s yours.
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Quotes:
On his motivation to come back after a three-year break: To be back in boxing is great for me. I'm ready to put on a performance on Saturday.
On whether this is a one-off or a comeback: This is definitely a comeback.
Uriah Hall Quotes:
On his decision to come back after a two-year hiatus As an athlete, as a warrior, you still have those tendencies. And time to time, I get a little bored… so when this came up, I got excited.
