Harry and Meghan Netflix special.

Episode 1 Notes:

1. From the outset we are told this is a first hand account, using footage from their own archives. And members of BRF have declined to comment.

2. For some ridiculous reason, first scene is at an airport arrivals lounge. Private jet Harry's documentary starts with scenes from a commercial airport. Lol. Appary he has just landed at London in March 2020. Probably traumatic because this was the first time they had to take commercial lol

3. It's quite evident that this started as a video diary (Meghan's idea?) around March 2020. Way before they finalized the netft deal. So ...this is how they pitched to platforms? This is the behind the scenes look? Scheming bastards.

4. They are addressing all the little criticism - private jets. How little she knew of Harry. Media scrutiny. Archie. How she gave up everything to marry him and then he voluntarigave up his life to join her world.

5. There is a LOT of footage of the kids. Basicat it's their iPhone gallery made into a movie with piano music.

6. She and her friends really overexplai. That she was single "SINGLE" for a couple of months in summer 2016. And travelly the world with her girlfriends. And that those trips were planned to enjoy the world. Girl doth protest a bit too much.

7. Oh btw they met on Instagram. Lol new twist. And she got to know his through his ig feed. Lol. He is photographer ok guys. And he asked to meet her. So not a blind date.

8. They also show their private chats. URghhhh!

9. Harry is such a doofus. All he wanted was to get married and that's a bit creepy ok. It comes across as if he would have married anyone.

10. Nacho is there. URghhhh

11. Meghan didn't know him guys, at all. Did not know anyone. But told all her friends. Hahaha... And they are all here telling us she didn't know. Hahaha... And well... it would all be cute but it's them. So Diana is mentioned a few times. We get to know about their first meeting. And then it cuts to commentary from the day Harry was born, and how special Diana was and how everyone loved baby Harry. Sneaky!

12. We see a lot of footage of innocent diana talking about Harry and Harry doing cute stuff. Just in case we forget. Harry says he doesn't have early memories of his mom. But, dear viewers, we do, right? So that's more important. We all loved Diana.

13. Everybody who has ever spoken/written anything favorable about the couple is in this series. Noone who could present the other side. It seems a bit glaring.

14. So much royal footage. So much of the queen. If she was alive she definitely would have been offended at this. I'm sure. This is disrespectful. Because it makes it seem like "Meghan against the institution". Instead of Harry and Meghan the lovestruck couple.

This is the undertone that I think Meghan may have wanted to distance herself from.

15. When Harry talks about his childhood it does make a but of sense, esp with the skiing footage and Eug and Bea look overwhelmed.

16. He says what she shared in panorama was her experience and truth. Even if it was obtained in the wrong way.

17. Harry is such a simp. Meghan tries to be, but personally she seems like she is overacting even in their old home videos and facetimes. How is that possible?? And Harry says she is so simar to his mum. ewww... the mommy issues!

18. Lol there really are Diana's pictures on the wall in a tiara in the nursery. Didn't Harry hace any private pictures of her he can show his children because this was literally from a magazine photoshoot. WTH!

19. When he talks about his mum's death, they show a photo of the two brothers. With William looking at Harry, and Harry staring into space. That's heartbreak. Truly. The only time I wished the brothers were still close. What would Will think if he sees this??

20. This episode does a good job at presenting Harry's childhood issues. And his fears. He seems self aware. And you empathise with him up to that point. But then I wonder, with all of this, how could Meghan make this whole thing about herself?? His problems are real and massive and he had so much support. And she and him, they make this all about her not being able to adjust and how unfair it was for her to leave everything behind (for all of 1.5 yrs lol).

21. I think, this maybe one of the reasons that Meghan hasn't liked this series. We get to know the Harry that we liked and loved and thought we knew. It makes her feel.like a nobody. And he overcompensates ofr that constay. But the showrunners, director, Netflix won't overcompensate. They tell us who us the more valuable one.

22. Harry is White Knight-ing in Africa. You know, the wayward, heartbroken lad who just wants some warmth and acceptance... It's a bit much, this narrative. esp in these times. This impression of Africa the land of authenticity and finding yourself, even if true, is something we should all avoid now.

23. Harry's issues are so obviously here, I believe if Meghan hadn't come along he might have stayed on the straight and narrow. She didn't value and respect his heritage. And he mirrored her to be able to keep her. (My opinion from this episode)

24. Whenever Lindsay Roth speaks, I feel like she is auditioning for the best friend's role in a Hallmark movie. Whenever nacho comes on screen I want to scream, he is a skeez.

25. They show Harry's tiny makesft tent. To quell the glamping rumours.

26. Abigail Spencer and her bad extensions. Uffff!

27. There's some friend of hers called silver tree. Lol what? Who is this woman? I bet she is a stand in for Gina Nelthorp Cowne. Poor Gina, was ghosted but would have loved to do these interviews.

28. They are saying that initially it was much easier for her to come to London and stay at KP with him. And then they would drive to Windsor and walk around frogmore and have all this space and privacy without anyone ever noticing. So much privacy in london. Hmm.... The exact life they left behind. Weird (not!)

29. It's all bad media, intrusive media.

30. Pictures of the Halloween party, the night before the news of the relationship broke. Eugene's costume, yikes! Also, did they take permission from her to use these photos because she is a literal princess. The palace would and should protect her. (IMO)

31. Harry says, after the news broke, he didn't know what he was walking into. Lol poor dude never thought Meghan would be thriving on getting papped every where. She really did milk this opportunity and was probably acting all innocent in front of him. Because his concern seems genuine, her shock less so.

32. Some of the news headlines, articles, voiceovers they show here are not from this period. They are from.much later, before the wedding. Not from 2016 i remember back then everyone loved her. And she got a lot of positive press, esp in the UK.

thank you for this! honestly, I woke up at 4 am this morning thanks to my toddlers and scrolled dm with dread anticipating how much more crap the RF has to put up with. But there’s actually very little beyond the workings of a totally deranged narc who took iPhone videos of everything over the past 6 years. (Who the f does that? This isn’t normal.)

My jaw dropped reading Oprah and the reactions on my IG feed. It’s not like that now, at all.

babbling about my thoughts on the ending of good omens 2 because i need to get them off my chest

spoilers ahead (obvi)

(also it's mostly complaining about the ending so if you really loved it don't like. doxx me or whatever. i just need to rant about what i hated.)

so, the season as a whole i did definitely enjoy. i don't think it's as good as the first for a number of reasons- primarily that season one had ended with everything wrapped up very nicely with a bow- but it was still great fun and a good watch. there were loads of things i was very excited about (see saraqael, the angel in a wheelchair)!

i think i would have enjoyed it more if it had been slice of life-esque? following the adventures of crowley and aziraphale throughout pre-time all the way to current day.

what really ruined the season for me was the last fifteen minutes or so of episode 6. not because crowley and aziraphale didn't end up becoming loving life partners for eternity, but because all the character development aziraphale went through for two whole seasons just got tossed out the window like that.

i mean, two whole seasons of figuring out that both sides are shit and that really, the whole system is pretty much trash, and no one knows exactly why they're doing any of it! he bails on the system, says "i'm going to carve out a place for myself and my loved ones outside of the system", then he's offered a shiny new job and he's back in the fucking system again.

he says "we'll be able to change things" but you won't. gabriel, the last man in your position, got fired by his own employees because he didn't want to destroy earth. and metatron tells aziraphale that the next plans for humanity are already in place. aziraphale only gets to figure out the execution of the plan! and based on the meetings we saw, he'll have to run literally everything by the other archangels, who, again, can fire him despite him being their boss.

it's just so so frustrating to see what, in-universe, amounts to literal millenniums of character progress be completely crumpled in a single five minute chat with metatron.

it's just so frustrating to see and it leads to a deeply unsatisfying ending. i'm engaging in media to see characters grow and become better people, not see them do all that only to backtrack to square one minutes before the end. it's not enjoyable.

urghhhh.

i just really needed to rant about how frustrated i was by the ending.

also, aziraphale? really? "i forgive you"??? what the fuck is wrong with you?

only listing the prevalent characters that I like! twisted wonderland, genshin impact and ikemen prince

twisted wonderland:

ace trappola: their relationships are like siblings. they annoy each other, tease each other, probably deck each other for the heck of it, but all in all, they care for each other.

deuce spade: also sibling vibes. they're both over emotional, not too smart, and attempt to help each other with their studies. it's not working.

cater diamond: a nice senior! I think they get along with their use of social media. t*kt*k, dances, trends, that sort of thing.

riddle rosehearts: honestly, like floyd and riddle. valie's a thorn, but sometimes, she gives him honest compliments that riddle enjoys. he's also deuce's and her tutor, so... RIP riddle.

ruggie bucchi: valie views ruggie as a cool senior who helps her out! I think he has this aggravated fondness over her, like... 'why the hell are you so dumb?' *sigh that has the slightest bit of care*

jack howl: she thinks jack is a good boy. and nice to tease. he cares for her, again, like siblings. honestly, its just him sighing over the other 1st years, before getting taken into the action as well.

floyd leech: chaotic buddies! I think valie's 'oh shit' moments are something floyd loves to tease her about, and he finds her attempts to tease him amusing. also, he's happy there's someone who doesn't mind being dragged out of nowhere (especially if its to skip class).

jade leech: pun squad! while valie doesn't enjoy puns, she's been subjected to vivica's sense of humor, so it's just naturally stored in her- and jade likes puns, so.

kalim al asim: his optimistic personality is something valie enjoys. it's nice to have someone so... nice in NRC, you know? his 'oh no, I think I forgot something' moments are just such a mood. disasters. as for kalim, I think he finds her fun.

jamil viper: she finds him scary, and jamil... finds her annoying. however, after chapter 4, they begin to bond over the feeling of pushed behind- that no matter how hard you try, you'll never be first, although of course, valie's feelings doesn't extend to jamil's. they become, at the very least, snarky acquaintances after that, except valie doesn't mean malice and pokes at him for fun- I'm not sure about jamil, though.

vil schoenheit: she just finds him beautiful, man, like- OTOME GOALS UGH- vil thinks this potato should stop making epel rebellious.

rook hunt: another chaos duo. their affinity over beautiful things and taking pictures of them are something they can bond over. valie, for all the wrong reasons, admires his photography skills and they just vibe over pretty people, man.

epel felmier: she attempts to drag him into chaos ALL the time and he more often than not, does it. breaking him out of pomefiore, attempting dumb stuff... 1st year shenanigans.

idia shroud: gacha game bonding- I'm sure he mocks her for having such shit luck and she goes and fights him and bla bla... oh yeah, they also bond over how cute cats are.

silver: MY BOY MY WIFE MY PRINCESS UGHHHH she's pining SO hard for him and is a desperate mess HELPPPP. silver is confused, but like also pining, but like... quiet, oblivious pining. I think her more cheerful and upbeat nature mixes well with his more somber tone.

sebek zigvolt: MY WIFE UGHH URGHHHH it's always a scream fest between them, and they get on each other's nerves SO much but eventually, they end up becoming friends. it just... takes time. eventually, valie forms a one-sided crush on the guy.

lilia vanrouge: she trusts him, and rants to him a lot. they're close, always touchy with each other, but in a totally platonic way. I'm sure she's cried in his lap more than enough times and lilia's like 'little bat, little bat...' lilia treasures her like a daughter, and is more than happy to tease her for her crushes against his knights.

malleus draconia: besties. absolute besties. he teaches her about gargoyles and she teaches him about the modern age. she playfully teases him, kicks him, that sort of thing and for malleus, she's his first friend, and he couldn't be more grateful.

grim: their partners in crime, and wouldn't who they are without each other. they're bond is totally platonic, and they love each other very much, even though its normally hidden by teasing.

all in all, she loves her friends very much, and while she's quite flirtatious, they are mostly platonic. as for their feelings towards her, it can be summed up in exasperated fondness.

genshin impact:

aratakki itto: she respects him! he's so tall, and cool, and fun! and I'm sure itto thinks she's an energetic kid.

bennett: surprisingly? she's his knight in shining armor, and hers. there's this bubbly kid-like crush with her to bennett where she'll be sort of awkward towards him, but in a nervous way and bennett is completely oblivious.

chongyun: another target for teasing, but otherwise, they get along swell. in some ways, I think chongyun respects her ambition, and she respects his optimism. she forms a crush over him because of his personality, but he treats her like a friend.

fischl: valie genuinely, like bennett, thinks she's from another world, and treats her as such, but like, seriously. kissing her hand, holding her when she walks, etc. I think eventually, valie falls for her after knowing its a bluff, but she doesn't tell fischl. as for fischl... she's too embarassed to tell valie that she's been fooled, and she doesn't really... mind, you know... so, they're good friends.

gorou: general! yes, sire! of course, she respects him because he's a general, but sometimes... she can't help but want to pet him. also she knows he's miss hina and has told him about it and now gorou wants to DIE. in an hc I saw, I think valie will help gorou come to terms with it, though. hell, he might even start liking being ms. hina.

razor: another good boy, huh? she attempts to help him study up words along with ms. lisa, and this time, it's actually working. for valie, I think her relationship with him falls in the thin line that is romantic and platonic love, while razor this of her is lupical, as a sister.

tartaglia: NAH, FUCK YOU GINGER MAN NAHHHH FUCK FUCK FUCK YOUUUU; meanwhile, childe doesn't even know who she is LOL

traveler (aether): a big brother. they adventure together, so they become quite close, telling each other about their fears and desires.

abyss princess (lumine): confusion and of course, bias towards aether. not very fond of her since she kinda you know fucks it up w/ the abyss order. lumine is aware of her, but doesn't see her as a threat.

paimon: again, very close, like family. she spoils paimon to the moon and back, and they, along with grim, like to dress up. aether doesn't join in, but sometimes he's forced too. family shenanigans, y'all.

venti: a cool bard, and a talented drummer! they are musically, out of sync, but she learns mondstadt's music through him. she also knows he's a god. venti finds her fun. I think it's like lilia and her, but venti's more of her taking care of him (you know, with his alcohol addiction).

xiao: XIAO XIAO XIAOOO idc how but their siblings. older, tired brother and excitable younger sister. although, it's less teasing and more trying to understand each other softly, if you understand me. the rare case of valie trying to get to know someone without teasing them.

xinyan: ROCK STAR OHMYGODDDD she's xinyan's biggest fan, just like that one millilieth guard. dreams about going on stage with her and when she does SAFDABSSABFDASFDBA WHATTHEUFCK. since valie's just a fan to xinyan, xinyan thinks she's cute, that's all, lol.

grim: again, very very close. joined to the hip. after the happenings of twisted wonderland, valie's lost her sight, so together, they're attempting to cope with this turn of events. also, grim's growing into the size of a mountain lion here.

ikemen prince:

yves kloss: falls head over heels with him and his tsundere attitude and his kindness and again, is bubbly and blushy over him. in a sense, she's like emma in the game, but the development takes a long, long time for the friendship to blossom, and then the romantic feelings. yves feeelings are strictly platonic, and there is no line being crossed. a cute little sister that he dotes on, but less openly (unlike with licht).

licht klein: similar to xiao, one of the rare instances where valie gets to know a person without the playfulness normally there, you know? though, it's a lot easier for her since she's grown and become wiser. eventually though, she brings that back with her. an hc is that like his brothers, she's attempting to get him drunk so she can video/ take a picture of him and show yves. licht thinks she's a nice person, and is grateful she reached out, both to him and yves. their relationship is strictly platonic on both ends.

grim: only yves knows about the 2 of them being from another world. licht doesn't know... yet.

and so with that is a total of... 7 crushes, with only silver likes her back because the others see her as a good friend. I have this story where they meet each other again after like 10-ish years (there's a whole story in my head) and then they start to fall in love with each other again and this time, this time, they finally confess to each other on how they feel and OHMYGODDSSHUT UPPPP

because, wouldn't it be unrealistic if they solely pinned and waited for each other for over 10 years without contact? I think so, so yeah. also a way for me to pine over other characters LOL

Hello! Thank you so much for your lovely words about Wide Awake. <3 But unfortunately... it’s probably going to remain incomplete. I’m sorry. I’m not really in that same headspace any more, and the characters have stopped talking to me. I’m so, so glad you enjoy it enough to reread it though. That means so much to me. I’m working up to posting the last 2k I have, but I kinda don’t want to because that will be the final admission that I’m not going to finish it. Urghhhh. :(

And yes! Courage, Dear Heart is the other RedStar fic! It’s going to be the first two chapters - or maybe the preface and the introduction - to a biography of RedStar written by Alice Sun called Courage, Dear Heart: A Love Story in Three Parts. The first part is going to be a short things about Alice Sun meeting Wanda Maximoff at her home to ask her to clarify some things she’s found while researching for her book. The second part is going to be the story of Wanda at university in New York, her meeting a kid from Iowa called Clint Barton, and her introducing Clint Barton two two friends she shares studio time with; James Barnes and Natasha Romanov. It’s going to be one of those mix media jobbies, so I’m having fun making up quotes and stuff. But also writing biographies is hard so I keep stalling.

my fiacee doesn't know who H*go Sch***zer is. Can you give a brief overview about this internet disaster?

urghhhh So H*go Schw*z*r was, back in like… idk, I feel like I started becoming vaguely aware of him around 2010-ish? I don’t know how long he was around in online feminist blogging circles before he started to become fairly prominent in those circles but it seemed fast to me at the time. He was for a while kind of the go-to guy for a White Dude Ally’s Perspective On Lady Problems Back When We Were All Calling Feminism “Lady Problems” Because Of The Brief Relevancy Of S*dy D*yle (who is probably a topic for another post about the sordid history and bullshit nature of the Professional Feminist Blogosphere). He wrote guest posts and did interviews for a number of feminist blogging sites (idk all of them but I think Feministing was one, as well as Feministe, and he was featured a few times on Jezebel and xoJane, etc) and he founded a website called the Good Men Project for ~feminist ally men~ to talk about how hard it is when we are not about me or whatever.

Early on there were problems with the way he conducted himself online. Numerous women of colour and specifically black women raised issues with how he talked about race, and when they did they often found themselves being harassed and bullied by white feminists in positions of relative social power within those scenes. This guy also often talked about his students - he made a big deal about how he taught womens studies at a university, although it later was revealed that he had no academic background in womens studies AT ALL, he was a history professor who basically taught a couple of classes on the subject of gender because the college he worked for didn’t have a proper womens studies department at the time - in ways that were patronizing, racist, sexist, and otherwise just troubling. (I can’t find it but I remember one where he talked about Latinx students of his and how “hot blooded” and sexually driven they were, which made the men sexist and the women vulnerable - stuff like that.) His writing and public speaking and etc all seemed like they were geared more towards establishing a cult of personality than anything else (ads with giant pictures of his face, his name everywhere, much more prominent than the actual subjects he was supposedly addressing, etc.)

As he gained prominence he started writing more about his personal history with his girlfriends and ex-girlfriends, often going into humiliating details about their own sexual histories, their bodies, etc - there was an infamous article he wrote about pulling a tampon out of his ex-wife’s vagina, for example. He alluded to and explicitly talked about his “bad boy” past, implying or stating that he USED to do very bad things like sleep with young students of his, take advantage of women in vulnerable emotional states, etc, but that all of that was past him now because feminism had shown him the light.

A LOT of white, cis, upper/middle-class women with online presences that centered around a particular kind of reductive liberal feminist ideology REALLY ate that shit up. As I’ve mentioned, when he was criticized, they would close ranks around him. I think he served a few different purposes - for starters, he was privately sowing division and isolating women of colour by basically picking up on existing tensions between white women and some women of colour who were writing in the same circles, and going to those white women and being like, “you’re right, she’s crazy, you shouldn’t have to listen to her”. He was very good at manipulation, and he was good at picking up on who had how much social capital in any given situation. He would identify ringleaders of certain online circles and cliques, and present himself to them as a pilgrim seeking absolution from benevolent, ideologically pure (white) women. It flattered them and affirmed the sense of ideological superiority that a lot of them ultimately secretly (or not so secretly) harbored.

But eventually he started crossing the line publicly, in ways that exposed his ongoing private behavior. There’s the infamous piece he wrote about the time he tried to murder his ex-girlfriend after she was sexually assaulted, because he thought she’d been ruined by the assault - that was kind of the snowflake that triggered a massive avalanche of backlash against him, which ultimately led to people realizing that he was STILL sleeping with his students, and taking advantage of and manipulating many other women in many other ways. He was forced out of most online feminist circles, but not before a long, bitter series of debates between people who had always been critical of him and people who felt guilty about having defended him for so long (or were just unrepentant about it, as some were!)

Every now and then he pops up with some new public face. A couple years ago now he re-debuted on Twitter and me and a couple buds got into it with him, which was an intensely unpleasant experience. Today he’s publishing a lot over on Medium, including articles that graphically describe the sex he had with students who were upwards of 20 years younger than him at the time, and who he was actively lying to through their whole relationships. I’m not linking to any of this for obvious reasons - I don’t want to give him the traffic, it’s exploitative shchlock written by a guy who wants to profit financially off of his own sexual abuse of women - but it’s easy enough to google all of this and find it if you’re really curious.

Anyway tl;dr he’s a garden-variety abuser and rapist who learned some feminist jargon and briefly became a media darling and poster boy for Feminist Men, before it was revealed that he’s a serial sexual predator and attempted murderer.
