Mordecai watched from afar, his presence barely a flicker against the backdrop of towering shelves. He felt the familiar pang of irritation as she carelessly pulled a hefty volume from the shelf, sending dust clouds billowing into the air. The book hit the ground with a thud, pages splaying open like a wounded bird.

She paid no mind, it would seem. Every time she tossed a book aside, he felt a tightening in his chest. These books can't actually be that useless?

Eventually, he did appear before her, a scowl imprinted on his face.

"I won’t suffer fools gladly, and you’re testing my patience!"
