⚰️ ――――  TYLER HAD BEEN AWOKEN BY REBECCA IN THE DEAD OF NIGHT FROM HER CONSTANT TOSSES AND TURNS AS SHE SLEPT. he was already half-awake when @w0efulsoul had shot up from her sleeping position, seeming so frightened by the way her breathing pattern was inconsistent. he sat up when she had and turned on his side to face her, hands finding hers to bring her back down to reality, squeezing them with care.    “       i’m already awake, rebecca. what was your nightmare about   ?      ”    he asked, concerned clear in his tone. he couldn’t imagine what her nightmare could’ve been about with everything that’s been transpiring in their lives. from klaus chasing him, causing tyler to be a fugitive on the run and the same monster in search of more wolves just he and rebecca. no where seemed safe for the both of them; so the nightmare she experienced had to have been terrifying and tyler just wanted to do what he could to make her feel better, more grounded. He brings her in close for a loving embrace, chin resting atop her head as he cuddled her in closer to his chest,     “      you can talk to me, you know. we’re in this together     ”    he whispers then places a tender kiss where his chin rested.

Wrapping presents was a lengthy process and a very precise art. Tyler looked at Caroline funny when she said exactly that to him years ago after she had criticized his wrapping skills on her birthday present. However, they had vastly improved over the years; the pile of presents he had already wrapped was growing steadily next to her own.

"We need to pick the girls up soon," she said with a glance at the clock on the wall. "I hope everything went okay. They were so excited to go ice skating, and I know that it's a school trip and that Bonnie will be there, so nothing too bad will happen."

Tyler raised his eyebrows. "But...?"

Caroline slumped, caught out, and sighed. "But I'm worried! I mean, between that girl in Lizzie's class that she keeps saying hates her and Josie being so... withdrawn, I'm just worried that something will happen."

"Like... something bad?" Tyler prompted meaningfully.

She hadn't wanted to voice her concerns out loud to him, but she realized by the look on his face that he already knew. She was worried about them triggering the werewolf curse. They had talked about it a little at first, when the girls were first born, how it was likely to have passed down to them. Lizzie and Josie knew bits and pieces, like, Mommy was a vampire and Daddy was a werewolf.

"The girls are turning twelve in just a few months," Caroline said with a shake of her head. "Even without a dormant werewolf gene, I was a nightmare at that age. There are hormones and teen drama, and god knows what could happen. You've seen how easily they get worked up."

Tyler set aside the present he had just finished wrapping, securing it with a pretty pale blue ribbon. "They're kids, Care. They're going to get into arguments, and they're going to get worked up. That's why we taught them how to handle it when they start to feel like that."

"I know," Caroline sighed, shaking her head again. "I know. I'm sorry. I'm overthinking this, aren't I?"

"No, you're being just like any other mother who cares about their kids," he said kindly, and he leaned over to kiss her. It was soft and gentle, and just long enough to pull her out of the bubble of anxiety she had put herself in. When he pulled back, he held up another blue ribbon and said, "But right now, what you should be worried about is this mess. Seriously, there is glitter, like, everywhere in this house right now."

"Well, there wouldn't be if you were more careful," she retorted, but her face split into a grin and she kissed him once more before saying, "Right. We need to finish wrapping these presents immediately or Christmas will be ruined."

"Oh, well, we can't have that," Tyler said teasingly.

"Definitely not," she said firmly and held out a hand. "I need a purple ribbon. STAT."

"Right away."

⚰️ ―――― IT WAS ANOTHER NIGHT OF THE FULL MOON AND JUST AS IT HAD BEEN FOR MONTHS, TYLER WAS A SLAVE TO IT ONCE MORE. he didn’t have any recollection of what had occurred on the previous night; only clues he was left with were the facts that he was naked, covered in blood, dirt and grime, in the middle of the woods. one was only able to assume that something tragic went down and the thought of him possibly hurting someone innocent began to plague his mind with shameful guilt. he had to find out if he hurt someone; especially if that someone was someone that was a friend, someone he cared for. when he stood up, looking around to see if his clothes happened to be anywhere in the general area, he heard @dynastymuses 's voice. he swallowed thickly, nervous about what she could possibly be thinking witnessing him in this vulnerable and seemingly dangerous state. the wolf was no longer in control but his emotions were all over the place; it was hard for him to keep himself grounded. he covered his private parts with both his hands, shaking where he stood,     “     elena, it’s  ----  it's not what it looks like. I don’t remember what happened. i was chained up in the lockwood cellar and the next thing I know, i’m waking up out here. i’m so lost  [  ….  ]     ”    he pleaded in a quick ramble, hoping she wouldn’t think he’d ever hurt her. he knew it’d be hard to convince her otherwise but he hoped that their long friendship and everything they went through together would be enough to tell her that he was no harm to her.

tyler took a quick swig of— whatever was in his red solo cup . . . then another. he must have downed half the contents of the cup before he finally slowed down. tyler got his anger issues from his father. that was the worst kept secret in cousins. but everybody just looked the other way when dick lockwood raised his voice at his son. he was respected enough around the beach town that everyone assumed that was the brunt of his violent heart. they didn't see what happened behind closed doors. while the mayor had never swung on tyler directly, he did get a little pushy from time to time. the difference now was that tyler was big enough to push back. not only with his father, but with anyone who pushed his buttons. mayor lockwood was always his berserk button though. any time someone brought up his privileged upbringing, tyler lost his cool. tonight was no exception. he took another drink of his beer, wishing the cup would magically refill itself. it didn't. magic wasn't real. and it sure as hell wasn't in cousins. at least, not for tyler.

jeremiah fisher was built different. he was the eternal sunshine to tyler's overcast skies. whenever it was down, @m0nstrums was one of the only people who could turn his frown upside down. he exhaled a sigh, pushing a shaky hand through his hair and nodded, plopping down in the sand next to his friend. knees bent and he leaned forward, resting his elbows against them. he studied the half empty cup like it held all the answers instead of cheap beer. "i don't know," he admitted. for a kid that seemingly had everything, tyler had nothing. no big dreams, no aspirations. his world was actually very small, and limited to the confines of cousins beach. he was taking classes at a local community college because he had no fucking idea what he wanted to do with his life. he was just . . . stuck. like he was just another grain of sand on the beach. cold until maybe the sun shined down on it. he looked over at jeremiah and watched him longer than necessary before replying. "yeah . . . yeah, i know. thanks man. you have me too. whatever that means." he was mumbling by the end, taking another drink from his cup.

breaking up fights with tyler lockwood being front and center wasn't the most uncommon situation for jeremiah. he's done it more times than he can count, somehow he's always there. it took them a good while to get along, which isn't the norm for beck's sunshine boy, but their temperaments clashed radically. maybe it was just that that brought them closer together, maybe this way, they found balance in amity. he'd be deceitful if he denied never seeing the mayor's son with eyes other than platonic. he's hot, for one, and pleasingly unpredictable, how could he not? but he also felt for him. jeremiah went out of his way in the attempt of making his time there marginally less shitty. not because his gaze lingered for a little too long, but because he's his friend. it's unsettling for jeremiah when his friends are unhappy. it's so far from his nature to not do something about it.

reaching for the red solo cup extended to him, jeremiah's hand securely wraps around the exterior of the plastic before bringing it up to his lips, briefly sipping on its bitter contents. he nods gingerly at the other's words, knowing that although he may not relate, considering that cousins is the only place that has ever felt like home to him, where he belongs most, he can try to understand how it may not be the same for someone outside of their family. namely, the mayor's son. he wonders if tyler's sense of not belonging is due to his father, someone who he's seen on multiple accounts being the brunt of his foul mood. fernweh — being homesick for a place you've never been, he heard the term somewhere. maybe that's what tyler feels? he'd have to ask sometime. "well," he begins, "where would you wanna go? you won't feel like you belong somewhere until you finally get out of where you don't wanna be, right? so, where would you wanna go?" drawing out a hand behind him as he settles down into the cool sand below, he motions for his friend to join, gaze seeking his out. "and hey, you may not feel like you belong here, but you do have people you belong with. i'm one of those. you'll always have me, dude."

THE FLICKER OF THE FLAME REMINDS HIM OF HOME . Endless nights of bonfires, the smell of burnt marshmallows and the summer air screams july nights back in Mystic Falls. The snow on the ground here is just a bonus, not having seen snow this heavy since childhood when the tv warned him about the chances of road blockages and time off school. Jeremy can appreciate the cold more now that his insides feel as though they're screaming at him, warming him up from head to toe without even thinking about it. Hellfire is strange in that way, he doesn't realize it's happening until he's leaving burn marks on trees or scorching the grass beneath him. Touching Odette has been trial and error, the skin of her arms cold beneath the flesh of his fingertips, like ice cubes sticking to the pads of his fingers. He's apologized more than once with how difficult it's been to navigate, but she still sits beside him, knees pulled up to her chest as he fumbles over target practices.

It's nice to have a friend that will just sit and watch him fail without gloating. It's nice to have a friend at all since losing Anna and feeling pathetic by Elena's standards of moving on. There were more important things to worry about, like Tyler Lockwood being a werewolf, like Stefan and Damon, like Katherine who looks exactly like his sister, even the not so fake mythology of the great and powerful Klaus. The sacrifice awakened something in Jeremy that he still can't put his finger on, but he's trying. Listening to those around him better so he's not completely an asshole to be around.

Recovery is hard, even when it's his own personality and vices he's recovering from with a new set of powers.

"I know you're thinking I drove you out here for no reason," Jeremy begins, back pressed against the tree. "And maybe I did," The man blinks once and then twice. "But I think I've stumbled upon something revolutionary and you're the only person who won't yell at me or tell me to knock it off if I show it to you."

HARTFORD WOLF PACK DESTROY SPRINGFIELD THUNDERBIRDS IN GAME ONE

By: Gerry Cantlon, Howlings SPRINGFIELD, MA - The Hartford Wolf Pack received three-point games from Ty Emberson and Tanner Fritz, two goals from Lauri Pajuniemi, 24 saves from Dylan Garand, and put forth a total sixty-minute effort in a 6-1 win in Game One over the Springfield Thunderbirds. The Wolf Pack, who picked the right time for their best game of the season, can wrap up the series at the XL Center on Friday. Puck drop is at 7:05 PM. In the third period, the Pack closed out Game 1 with an early tally to make it 5-0. Will Cullye was at the left side of the net and shuffled a pass out to Ryan Carpenter, who was down on his left knee in a shooter's position. Carpenter popped his first postseason goal this season and 12th career AHL playoff goal at 3:35. Carpenter's exuberance at the goal prompted a strong fist pump. Defensively, the Wolf Pack quickly extinguished any thought Springfield may have had thought of making a comeback with their foot firmly on the gas pedal. The only Thunderbirds tally in the contest came on the power play. It ended a PK kill streak of 29 straight for the Pack. Righthanded shooting Adam Gaudette put a shot off his back foot and put it past Garand at 11:44. BEST DEFENSE IS A STRONG OFFENSE The Pack kept the offensive pressure on with a hat trick bid by Pajuniemi that Hofer stopped with his blocker before Adam Clendening had a drive stopped. Garand faced spaced-out activity in the first two periods but was tested in the third with the expected pushback as Nikita Alexandrov was stopped. Then down the stretch, Garland stopped Matt Peca, Gaudette twice, and then Martin Frk. Springfield Head Coach Drew Bannister pulled Hofer with 4:21 left. The Wolf Pack did everything incredibly well. Garand tried for the empty net goal but came up short. The Pack finally tacked on the sixth and final goal as Emberson launched a 200-foot flip shot that found the back of the empty net at 18:38. It clinched his third point of the night for both he and Fritz and the final score. SECOND PERIOD The second period saw the Pack control the pace of the game. Coming out of the penalty box, Zac Jones was wide open. He took a backhanded pass on the left wing from Will Lockwood, went to the forehand, and tucked it around Hofer's right pad at 6:02. It gave the Pack a 2-0 lead. The Pack penalty kill held Springfield without a shot, and the MassMutual crowd was audibly groaning and irritated with their Thunderbirds. The Pack played quality defense and were counter-attacking at will. FIRST PERIOD Frk was stopped early, followed at 1:20 by Anton Blidh, who fed Blake Hillman. He was stopped. Blidh had a solid chance on a turnaround just off an offensive zone draw. The Pack made it 3-0 as Pajuniemi registered his second goal of the night, the second time that a player had just exited the penalty box. The whole play came off a Blidh block shot that left him prone on the ice. The puck caromed off him right to Pajuniemi. The shot hurt Blidh, who went down the runway back to the locker room afterward. He returned 15 minutes later. On the next shift, Springfield’s Tyler Tucker tried some rabbit punches on Pajuniemi, earning him a minor. Springfield’s Matt Highmore was left enraged, and the crowd was confused by an odd delay of game call, but the Pack was not about to turn down the five-on-three power play, confusing as it might have been. Carpenter went wide with a backhander. Another strange call for hooking to Turner Elson left him bewildered and frustrated. Referees Jim Curtin and Mike Dietrich gave him four minutes for the hooking call and then tacked on unsportsmanlike conduct. With 13:30 left, Hugh McGing was stopped by Garand, but Blake Hillman was cross-checked from behind into the net. It earned Will Bitten a penalty, and a small scrum ensued. FIRST PERIOD In the first period, during the first five minutes, forechecked the Thunderbirds hard. They outshot them and scored first to level an early dent in Hofer’s armor. Pajuniemi was the recipient of a perfect tape-to-tape pass from the left-wing boards by Emberson. He moved in and from thirty-feet out, fired it over Hofer on the blocker side, ending his personal shutout streak of 206 minutes against the Wolf Pack. The perfect road period began with strong forechecking from Bobby Trivigno and Karl Henriksson. Eight minutes in, Trivigno went down the right wing was stopped.
