jaron’s  not  in  the  best  space  mentally.  it  happens  sometimes  .  .  .  he  has  a  bad  encounter  with  his  dad,  or  he  has  the  urge  to  relapse,  or  .  .  .  literally  anything.  then  his  brain  and  body  both  shut  down  before  he  can  make  any  bad  decisions.  he  lifts  his  head  when  vanessa  speaks,  meeting  her  eyes  and  knowing  she  can  read  him  almost  instantly,   ❝  no,  ❞  he  answers  instantly  and  without  hesitation,   ❝  i  promise  .  .  .  i’m  just  having  one  of  those  weeks.  ❞

jaron's  mouth  opens  briefly  to  formulate  a  response  before  closing  it  again.  she's  not  wrong.  it's  the  best  way,  arguably,  to  soften  up  a  cookie.  but  that's  when  you're  talking  about  actual  food.  when  it  comes  to  people?  he  can't  help  but  think  about  what  her  statement  really  means.  ❝  you're  definitely  not  wrong.  ❞  jaron  tells  her,  rubbing  the  back  of  his  neck,  ❝  but  also  .  .  .  what's  the  equivalent  of  milk  for  people?  like  how  do  you  soften  up  your  tough  cookie  of  a  person?  ❞

jaron  can't  help  but  tilt  his  head  to  the  side  ever  so  slightly.  he  doesn't  exactly  get  what  she's  saying.  he  was  so  sure  that  pretty  much  everyone  in  the  hollywood  life  chose  it,  although,  if  they're  being  honest  with  each  other  .  .  .  he  hadn't  chosen  it  either.  his  parents  had  decided  for  him  and  now  he  was  in  it  for  life.  ❝  why  do  you  want  to  get  out  so  badly?  ❞  jaron  asked,  ❝  not  that  i  blame  you.  trust  me,  i  get  it.  i  was  just  .  .  .  curious  as  to  why.  ❞

jaron  looks  up  from  his  script,  his  eyes  roaming  over  jett  to  try  to  figure  out  if  he’d  missed  some  sort  of  social  cue.  but  apparently  he’d  just  gotten  wrapped  up  in  his  script  and  he  hadn’t  realized  jett  was  ranting.  and  he  immediately  felt  terrible.   ❝  i’m  sorry,  ❞  he  says  almost  immediately,  frowning  slightly,   ❝  i  was  listening  .  .  .  in  the  beginning.  and  then  i  just  .  .  .  it’s  a  really  good  script.  ❞  he  set  the  script  down  next  to  him,  ❝  but  you  have  all  my  attention  now.  ❞

jaron  can’t  help  but  simply  stare  at  her  as  she  speaks.  he  does  get  what  she’s  saying,  it  makes  sense.  however,  it  doesn’t  sound  like  something  a  real  person  would  say.  ❝  you  sound  like  a  script,  ❞  jaron  kept  his  eyes  on  her,   ❝  did  someone  pay  you  to  say  that  or  does  your  brain  actually  work  like  that?  ❞  he  hesitates  before  speaking  again,   ❝  but  thank  you  .  .  .  that  does  mean   a  lot.  ❞
