madison's eyes, once filled with confidence and mischief, were now clouded with remorse and vulnerability. she shifted uncomfortably under the weight of his words, each accusation hitting her like a punch to the gut. "i... i don't know," she stammered, her voice barely above a whisper. the weight of guilt bore down on her shoulders, and she avoided meeting his gaze. "it wasn't about that. it was never about just that. i messed up, okay? i messed up everything." regret etched lines on her face as she struggled to find the right words. "i never meant to hurt you. it's just... things got complicated, and i didn't know how to deal with it. i'm sorry." the air hung heavy with the aftermath of her mistake, the wreckage of trust and love scattered at their feet.
open to: m/w/nb character: xander hawk. 36. ranch owner. the most dramatic human being on earth. plot: maybe your muse cheated or xander is just exaggerating. idk go off, go wild.

♢ about ♢
This is a sideblog, and I follow back from my main @grimmusings. (It's also my canon main, if you're looking for those muses.) Please direct IMs there, since it's easier for me to keep all my messages on one blog. It's also easier to start interactions with me there, where I regularly post meme prompts.
All muses on this blog are original characters with bios linked for each, and I'm happy to write them into AUs and crossovers. Please do not steal or reblog my bios/headcaons/etc., as they belong to me. For a full list of rules, see my main. Honesty hour questions will largely be answered IC and treated as anonymous unless signed by a muse.
Note: Please bear with me as this blog is highly under construction while I transfer information and rework bios. My OCs are new to Tumblr, but the muses have been in development and written on other platforms for 10+ years, and I've been writing various other canon and original muses on Tumblr for that long as well.

madison had always treasured the connection she shared with them. their friendship was a tapestry woven with the threads of shared secrets, inside jokes, and the unspoken understanding that bound them together. yet, lately, a subtle shift had taken root within her, like a dormant seed awakening to the realization that her feelings for them had evolved into something more profound. contemplating the idea of confessing her love felt like standing on the edge of a precipice, peering into the unknown. the fear of shattering the delicate balance they'd maintained for years gnawed at her resolve. what if laying bare her feelings jeopardized the foundation of their friendship? as the weight of her emotions grew heavier each day, the femme found solace in stolen glances and lingering touches, secretly yearning for something more. the internal struggle between preserving their existing bond and exploring the uncharted territory of romance left her in a state of perpetual unease. the impending decision loomed over madison like an ominous storm, casting a shadow over the sanctuary of their friendship. she couldn't shake the fear that confessing her love might irrevocably alter the landscape of their relationship, and the uncertainty clawed at her heart, creating a storm of emotions that threatened to consume her. ''hey. i know this may come a little out of the blue here but.. - is there any way we can revisit the idea of you being my fake date to this party? i already told everyone i'd have a date and well, i don't. please?''/ @goldsrushes

More Democrats Urge Joe to Go (Washington Post) Most Democrats nationwide say that President Biden should end his reelection campaign based on his performance in the presidential debate two weeks ago, according to a Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll. The poll results contradict Biden’s claim that only party elites want him to step aside. He has said that positive interactions with supporters on the campaign trail have helped persuade him to stay in the race after a debate in which he trailed off and occasionally appeared confused. But the poll finds that 56 percent of Democrats say that he should end his candidacy, while 42 percent say he should continue to seek reelection. Overall, 2 in 3 adults say the president should step aside, including more than 7 in 10 independents. The poll finds Biden and former president Donald Trump in a dead heat in the contest for the popular vote, with both candidates receiving 46 percent support among registered voters.
White House health cover-ups (NYT) The scandal is almost as old as the United States itself: The president has a health problem that he and his aides try to shroud from the public. Only later—years later, in some cases—does the severity become clear. The list of cover-ups is remarkably long. After a mysterious illness caused James Madison to miss meetings with senators in 1813, he blamed a watch malfunction. During Chester Arthur’s only term as president, he hid a kidney ailment that likely contributed to his death a year after he left office. Grover Cleveland’s aides lied about a surgery in 1893—performed on a friend’s yacht—to excise a tumor in his mouth. Woodrow Wilson spent his last year and a half as president debilitated by strokes while his wife and doctor secretly carried out some presidential duties. Franklin D. Roosevelt concealed the ailments that led to his death months after he won the 1944 election. Dwight Eisenhower’s doctor initially described his heart attack in 1955 as “a digestive upset.” John F. Kennedy’s aides lied about his Addison’s disease. Ronald Reagan’s administration hid the extent of his injuries after he was shot in 1981 and the signs of his dementia in later years. Donald Trump misled the public about the severity of his Covid illness. President Biden and his aides have become part of this presidential tradition. They have minimized and managed his public appearances to hide his age-related decline, according to reporting by The Times and other news organizations. Even as he has become confused or lost the thread of conversations more often in recent months, he and his aides have insisted he remained sharp and vigorous.
Rising Frustration in Houston as Millions Remain Without Power (NYT) The sun felt hotter than usual in Houston this week, as millions of sweltering residents emerged from the rapid thrashing of Hurricane Beryl to face a prolonged power outage—the largest ever seen by the city’s utility, according to the state’s lieutenant governor. The outages from the storm affected as many as 2.7 million customers across the state, mostly in and around Houston. Despite a promise by the utility, CenterPoint Energy, to restore power to one million customers by the end of the day on Wednesday, large swaths of the nation’s fourth-biggest city remained without power. The scale of the outages raised questions about whether enough had been done to prepare the city, just 50 miles from the Gulf Coast, for the kinds of storms that climate scientists predict will arrive with greater frequency. Beryl was not a particularly strong storm when it made landfall early Monday. But the hurricane struck at the heart of Houston with a ferocity that toppled trees into power lines and that knocked over 10 transmission towers, officials said.
Chileans confront a homelessness crisis, a first for one of South America’s richest countries (AP) The presidential residence of Gabriel Boric, the leftist millennial leader of Chile elected three years ago in the wake of public unrest over income inequality, shares a street in downtown Santiago with an overwhelmed homeless shelter. The sight of cardboard boxes and blankets strewn across sidewalks in Boric’s bohemian neighborhood serves as a sharp reminder of his struggle to fulfill his promise to give Chileans “a better life.” A pandemic-induced recession combined with a housing crunch and a major immigration influx have expanded Chile’s homeless population like never before. Over the last four years, the rate of homelessness in one of South America’s richest economies has jumped more than 30%, transforming the streets of a country that prides itself on its prosperity.
First F-16 jets heading to Ukraine after months of training and negotiations (Guardian) After years of waiting, Ukraine is finally ready to receive shipments of F-16 fighter jets, the supersonic fighter planes made in America that have been a key demand of Kyiv since the Russia-Ukraine war began. They will make their way to Ukraine from the Netherlands and Denmark with permission from the U.S. It’s unclear exactly how long Ukraine’s leash with the jets will be. The U.S. has repeatedly publicized its concern about how F-16s will be used by Ukraine, as using them to attack targets within Russia might escalate the conflict. However, recent changes allowing Kyiv to use American artillery to strike targets in Russian territory might reflect a change in policy by the White House.
High-Tech American Weapons Work Against Russia—Until They Don’t (WSJ) The Excalibur artillery round performed wonders when it was introduced into the Ukrainian battlefield in the summer of 2022. Guided by GPS, the shells hit Russian tanks and artillery with surgical precision, as drones overhead filmed the resulting fireballs. That didn’t last. Within weeks, the Russian army started to adapt, using its formidable electronic warfare capabilities. It managed to interfere with the GPS guidance and fuses, so that the shells would either go astray, fail to detonate, or both. By the middle of last year, the M982 Excalibur munitions, developed by RTX and BAE Systems, became essentially useless and are no longer employed, Ukrainian commanders say. Several other weapons that showcased the West’s technological superiority have encountered a similar fate. Russia’s success in electronic countermeasures—closely watched by China, with whom Moscow is believed to share some of its battlefield lessons in dealing with Western weaponry—poses a strategic problem for the U.S. and allies. Western military doctrine has long relied on a belief that precision can defeat mass—meaning that well-targeted strikes can cripple a more numerous enemy, reducing the need for massive expenditure on troops, tanks and artillery. That proposition, however, had not been tested in a major war until Ukraine. The introduction of Western weapons there showed that what may have worked against Saddam Hussein’s army, the Taliban or Islamic State guerrillas won’t necessarily perform against a modern military like Russia’s or China’s.
China: Cooking Oil and Food Safety (Nikkei Asia) An undercover report from Beijing News has sent shock waves through China, with an allegation that the trucks that ship cooking oil and syrup are also used for fuel and chemicals and are not adequately cleaned in between uses. Officials from the State Council’s food safety commission are investigating, and already the leading cooking oil supplier in the country, Yihai Kerry, saw its shares drop 8 percent at one point during trading, hitting a record low. It’s not the first time this kind of scandal has happened: Fuel tankers have been caught transporting cooking oil in 2005, 2011 and 2015, and a 2008 baby formula scandal roiled public trust in the food system.
Carnage at Gaza School Compound Adds to Mounting Death Toll at U.N. Buildings (NYT) The soccer ball went out of bounds and the goalkeeper was lofting it toward his teammates as dozens of people looked on from the sidelines of the courtyard. It was a moment of respite in the Gaza Strip—but it did not last. Before the ball reached the ground, a large boom shook the yard, sending players and spectators fleeing in frenzied panic. The Gazan authorities say that at least 27 people were killed on Tuesday in that explosion, which was caused by an Israeli airstrike near the entrance to a school turned shelter on the outskirts of Khan Younis, in southern Gaza. Philippe Lazzarini, head of the U.N. agency that helps Palestinians, UNRWA, said on Wednesday that it was the fourth strike in four days to hit or damage a school building in Gaza. Two-thirds of U.N. school buildings in the enclave have been hit since the start of the war, with more than 500 people killed, UNRWA said.
Where A German Truck Company Goes To Recruit Drivers: The Heart Of Africa (Die Welt) Ichaka Badayara was attending a lecture at a university in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, when a friend called. A German trucking company was coming to recruit drivers, he said: “That could be something for you.” The 21-year-old did not hesitate to submit his application. After a two-day selection process, Badayara was successful: He and 18 other candidates were chosen by the Cologne-based trucking company Emons to travel to Germany and begin a three-year truck driver apprenticeship. His visa has been approved, and all necessary permits from the German authorities are in place. “For me, this is a dream I’ve had since I was a child,” Badayara said exuberantly over the phone, in good German. But this dream job for Badayara is not even considered by many young people in Germany. Few industries face as a severe a personnel shortage as the trucking sector, which lacks 100,000 truck drivers. Companies have tried, unsuccessfully, to attract young people in schools, and in Eastern Europe, where interest is low due to high competition from other industrialized countries. The shortage of skilled workers could soon become the biggest threat to Germany’s economy, employer associations have warned. German ministers are increasingly addressing the issue during their trips to Africa.
America’s New Catholic Priests (NYT) On a sunny afternoon in May, Zachary Galante was sitting in a conference room in St. Francis de Sales Seminary with several other young men, talking about what it meant for them to choose the Catholic priesthood in the year 2024. The next morning, they would make lifelong promises of celibacy and obedience, and they were palpably elated by the prospect. “It’s a beautiful life,” Deacon Galante, soon to become Father Galante, said. There was a time where the church “maybe apologized for being Catholic,” he said later in the conversation. He and the other new priests agreed they were called to something different: advancing the faith, even the parts that could seem out of place in an increasingly hostile world.
Whale pod joins solo rower in the Atlantic, rocking boat and blowing bubbles (Washington Post) A British rower making a solo journey across the Atlantic Ocean suddenly found himself with plenty of company when a huge pod of whales surrounded his boat, in a stunning scene captured on video. Tom Waddington, a U.K.-based ski coach documenting his 2,000-nautical-mile journey to raise money for the mental health charity Mind, posted the encounter to his Instagram account. “What a special treat,” he said, watching the whales blowing bubbles and rocking the boat as they played around him, some 100 nautical miles off the coast of Newfoundland on Sunday. Waddington said he believed the pod comprised more than 1,000 long-finned pilot whales.

madison couldn't help but shake her head at brooks' nonchalant demeanor, a mix of exasperation and fondness evident in her expression. she focused on cleaning and dressing the wound, her hands steady despite the subtle wincing he tried to suppress. "that's your definition of 'cool'?" she teased, glancing up at him with a playful glint in her eyes. the banter between them, even in such situations, had become a familiar comfort. as she finished securing the bandage, her gaze softened. "brooks, you really need to be more careful. getting into brawls in dive bars isn't exactly a hobby most people would recommend," she quipped, trying to inject a lightness into the moment. however, concern lingered beneath her words, and she couldn't help but wonder about the circumstances that led him into such situations. as he explained the events that transpired, her features shifted to a mixture of empathy and understanding. the line between bravery and impulsiveness was often thin, and he seemed to dance along that edge. she admired his willingness to step in when others might have turned a blind eye, yet she worried about the toll it took on him. "being the hero suits you, but it doesn't make you invincible, you know?" the femme spoke with a gentleness that betrayed her care for him. "next time, maybe call the actual heroes—like the police? it's their job to deal with creeps."a small smile graced her lips, a silent acknowledgment of the underlying camaraderie between them. "and no worries about the scar. i've got a feeling you'll collect a few more before you're done."
eyes flutter shut as she steps closer, mostly to take mental inventory of all of the parts of him that ached, but their sudden proximity also a contributing factor. "oh really? never heard that before," the words are dripping in sarcasm, but a toothy grin breaks through his battered exterior. his eyes open once more as she tends to the gash. he's involuntarily wincing at the contact, yet still conscious to keep his body still as madison had requested. he was thankful to have her here, with all of her faculties, as brooks probably would've just let it bleed or slapped a dirty bar napkin over it. "he got in a cheap shot," brooks explains, still holding onto that smile as she worked. but, it was true that he may have bit off more than he could chew back there. the guy was twice his size, but was also twice as drunk. "thanks, doc," he jests, sitting up a bit straighter as the pads of his fingers gingerly brush against the newly applied bandage. smile wanes at her question, a sigh parting his lips. "the guy was being a creep all night, saying the craziest shit and grabbing at almost every girl in there. it just kept getting worse and worse, and, i don't know .... no one else was doing anything about it." a half-hearted shrug rolls off of his shoulders, suddenly feeling uncharacteristically shy. "at least i'll look cool if this scars."

madison's frustration grew as her car sputtered to a halt, leaving her stranded on the desolate road. she glanced around, her eyes narrowing at the sight of a nearby garage. determination pushed her to roll the car closer, the sound of wheels against gravel deafening in her ears. frustration boiled beneath the surface. "well, that's fantastic," she muttered to herself, clenching her fists. she took a deep breath, squaring her shoulders before addressing him. "look, i know it's closing time, but my car decided to die on me, and i'm stuck out here." madison felt a pang of unease, but she held her ground. "i just need someone to take a look. i'll pay extra for the trouble," she added, desperation seeping into her voice.

Nimble fingers worked the wrench to undo the screws around the engine of his motorcycle. Rowan was lost in thought as the sun started to set upon the garage. The rest of the club had gone on a drive while he stayed back to keep an eye on things here. Some nights, when his thoughts were this disorganized his time was better spent alone working with his hands in the quiet. It was peaceful until the sound of wheels against the gravel spun out of control near the garage. Pulling himself away from his machine, he walked out to find a woman stepping out of her car, "the shop is closed," he yelled out, squinting with the sun in his eyes.

Characteristics of older forests can buffer effects of climate change for some bird species
Old-growth forests and managed forests with old-growth characteristics can provide relief from climate change for some bird species, research by the Oregon State University College of Forestry suggests.
The study led by former Oregon State doctoral student Hankyu Kim builds on earlier research led by co-author Matt Betts, a professor in the Department of Forest Ecosystems and Society, that showed that old forests with big trees and a diversity of tree sizes and species can offer refuge to some types of birds threatened by a warming climate.
The latest findings bear important implications on conservation decisions regarding mature forests, the scientists say, and have even greater relevance because of the new Inflation Reduction Act, which calls for increased resources to map and protect the United States’ remaining old-growth forests.
The research, published today in Global Change Biology, looked at forest “microclimates.” Microclimates are local atmospheric conditions, in areas ranging from a few square meters to many square kilometers, that differ from those of the surrounding area.
Microclimates tend to be most pronounced in areas of rugged and varied topography such as coastal areas, islands and mountains like Oregon’s Cascade Range, home to the HJ Andrews Experimental Forest where Kim and Betts did their research.
The OSU scientists and collaborators from Oregon State and the United States Forest Service analyzed eight years of breeding bird abundance information from an HJ Andrews watershed as well as subcanopy temperature readings and ground- and LiDAR-based vegetation data. They concluded that at locations with cooler microclimates, some bird species tended to do better — a phenomenon they describe as the “buffering effect.”
Some species also fared better in places where the forest had more compositional diversity, referred to as the “insurance effect” because diversity helps ensure the presence of the insects the birds feed on when they most need nutrition and energy — during breeding season.
advertisement
“To my knowledge, this is the first empirical evidence of any microclimate effect on songbird populations, and of the insurance effect on free-ranging birds,” said Kim, now a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. “Each species may have a slightly different range of thermal optima — the range of thermal conditions they feel comfortable with — and it could be the same for the interaction between forest ecosystems and birds.”
Under the current warming regime, he explained, some birds interact with the forest ecosystem to their benefit, while others will find it hard to breed there because the availability of food has changed for the worse.
The scientists found that for five of the 20 bird species they analyzed, abundance trends tended to be either neutral or less negative in cooler microclimates, and the negative effects of warming on two species were reduced in locations with greater forest compositional diversity.
The five species benefiting from the buffering effect were the Swainson’s thrush, chestnut-backed chickadee, hermit warbler, varied thrush and Wilson’s warbler. The Wilson’s warbler and the red crossbill were the two with statistical evidence of benefiting from the insurance effect.
“If plants leaf out earlier in warm microclimates, causing arthropods to emerge earlier, there is a danger of migratory birds mistiming their breeding with peak food availability,” Betts said. “Since leaf-out timing varies by plant species, forests with more plant diversity often have a longer period of insect availability.”
The other 14 birds in the analyses were the dark-eyed junco, hermit thrush, McGillivray’s warbler, Pacific-slope flycatcher, brown creeper, black-throated gray warbler, golden-crowned kinglet, Hammond’s flycatcher, hairy woodpecker, Pacific wren, red-breasted nuthatch, red-breasted sapsucker, western tanager and yellow-rumped warbler.
advertisement
Seven of the 20 species showed overall declines in abundance over the eight-year study, 2011-18. Nine showed increases and four did display a detectable trend.
“Trends of abundance of five species declined at greater rates in warmer locations than in cooler areas,” Kim said. “That suggests microclimates within forested landscapes do provide refugia for those species. Declining species that are sensitive to warm conditions, like the Wilson’s warbler, hermit warbler and chestnut-backed chickadee, seemed to benefit the most from refugia effects.”
Betts found it interesting that the study led by Kim — whose results Betts said were “collected independently and more rigorously” than those in the research he led in 2017 — showed the same species in decline and the same species benefiting from forests with old-growth characteristics.
“The earlier paper was less well done because we didn’t measure microclimate directly,” Betts said. “Our hypothesis was that microclimate buffering should work for a high proportion of the declining species. This current paper is the first time that’s been shown.”
Brenda McComb and Sarah Frey of the OSU College of Forestry and David Bell of the Forest Service’s Pacific Northwest Research Station also took part in this research, which was supported by the National Science Foundation.

madison stood there, her heart aching at the raw vulnerability in jackson's words. it was a painful reminder of the love they once shared, and the weight of the decisions that led them down separate paths. she couldn't deny the residual emotions that lingered, but she had convinced herself that their breakup was the necessary step for both of them. "jackson," she began, her voice soft and tinged with sympathy. "it's not a bad thing to still love someone. love doesn't just disappear overnight. but sometimes, holding on can hurt us more than letting go. we tried, and it didn't work, and I believe it's better for both of us this way." she avoided making direct eye contact, the weight of the situation heavy on her shoulders. she knew that her decision had caused pain, and she couldn't bring herself to witness the depth of his hurt. instead, she focused on finding the right words to offer some semblance of comfort. "i wish things were different, but we have to find a way to move forward separately," madison continued, her tone gentle yet firm. "it doesn't mean what we had wasn't real or important. sometimes, love is about letting go for the sake of both people involved." she sighed, the complexity of emotions evident in her eyes. "i hope you can find a way to heal, jackson. i truly do."
jackson didn't even try to hide the fact that he was hurt. because that was exactly what was going on inside of him. it felt like his whole world was falling apart. at the same time, his stomach clenched. they were no longer together and yet it had never been jackson's decision to end the relationship. like an idiot, he clung to something that was irretrievable. madison had managed to move on with her life. and jackson? every day he was painfully reminded of her when he looked at the engagement ring on his desk that he had wanted to put on her finger. it never came to that. “how can i let go when i still love you as much as the first day? is that such a bad thing?”

I’ve taken a brief reprieve in the form of a social media hiatus to get the things that I’ve promised done and after much work and a few additional rewrites, I have the lists I took names for last week. This list is not finite! If you would like to be added to any of the sections below, all you have to do is tell me and I’ll add you in as an edit. I will be pinning this to my blog as well, for easy access.
THOSE WILLING TO SUBMIT TO ORDERS:
To be clear, this is their written consent to have Dominants give them orders without asking if they consent first. They don’t need to because this is already their consent, so there’s no need to be shy about it if you don’t want to be. The point of having this list is to never risk running into the word no, so please do add anything you’re not willing to do when you approach about being added to this section.
Artie Abrams (not sexually)
Valeria Aguirre
Rebekah Berry
Ambrose Eliot-Abrams
Claire Eliot-Abrams
Parker Chang
Hana Cohen-Chang
Sang Cohen-Chang
Eleanor Flanagan
Jamie Huggins
Kurt Hummel
Isabela Lopez
Mason McCarthy
Astrid Porter
Polo Villlada
THOSE WILLING TO OPENLY DOMINATE:
These are people that you can go to when you need to submit, whether that be needing to fill the itch to take care of someone via chores, cooking, daily service, or sexual interaction. These people can also be approached with problems, or asked for guidance if you’re not sure if you’re making the right choices or just want some guidance.
Malakai Abrams (only for the obedient)
Zoe Abrams
Nick Andros
Patrick Blanco-Smythe
Campbell Clarington (not sexually)
Deven Clarington (not sexually)
Lillian Crawford
Nick Duval
Declan Flanagan
Nikolai Flanagan
Killian Flanagan
Oakland Gilbert (not sexually)
Felix Hudson
Alexus Jones
David Karofsky (not sexually)

Roswell Meeks
Remy Navarro
Marley Rose (not sexually)
Mickey Rutherford
Ahsan Singh
Beau Smythe
Sebastian Smythe
Vic Sterling (not sexually)

SWITCHES THAT ARE INTERESTED IN BOTH SIDES:
Perhaps you would like to begin cultivating a D/s dynamic, relationship, or scene with someone that could take either role.
Darrean Anderson
Ari Cohen-Chang
Blake Evans
Maggie Fuller (apprehensive but looking for experience, approach gently)
Remy Smythe
Dahlia Wilson

madison's grip tightened imperceptibly as his words lingered in the air. the hum of the engine and the passing scenery outside created a backdrop for the unspoken tension in the car. twenty minutes of driving felt like an eternity, each passing mile marking a step closer to a moment neither of them seemed ready to face. "yeah," she finally replied, voice calm but carrying the weight of the unspoken. She stole a sidelong glance at him, his profile etched against the passing city lights. "back to reality, i guess." the uncharted territory of a budding connection, formed in the holiday haze, now faced the harsh light of separation. her mind raced, grappling with the impending distance and the uncertainties that lay beyond the final stretch of the road. the uncharted territory of a budding connection, formed in the holiday haze, now faced the harsh light of separation. madison's mind raced, grappling with the impending distance and the uncertainties that lay beyond the final stretch of the road. silence settled back in the car, heavy and thick, as if the weight of unsaid words hung in the air. she couldn't shake the feeling that this journey wasn't just about covering the physical distance but also navigating the emotional space that yawned between them. the glow from the dashboard cast fleeting shadows on his face, emphasizing the lines of conflict etched there. she wished she could freeze this moment, a fragment in time when they were suspended in the bittersweet limbo of what could have been. she stole another glance at him, fingers tapping a restless rhythm on her knees. "do you ever wonder...?" the femme hesitated, choosing her words carefully. "if we could have had something more, if the timing had been different?" the city lights blurred outside the car window, mirroring the haziness of their emotions. the road stretched ahead, a metaphor for the diverging paths their lives were about to take.
muse : aiden montgomery . 28+ . he / him . famous actor . open to : m / f / enby plot : we met while we were home for the holidays and started seeing each other but now we both have to get back to our regular lives
“ so , ” he starts to break the silence , dragging the word out for just a beat too long , head turning to look at them briefly . they’ve been driving for twenty minutes and it’s the first word that’s been said . “ this is really it , huh ? ”

The time has come to announce this weekend’s events! Since the overwhelming complaint on campus seems to be people refusing to interact with those outside of their immediate friend group, I decided to go ahead and pair everyone for this event, whether you signed up or not. This is an easy, fun thing that is meant to get everyone involved and talking. Please be kind and courteous, and show respect for your partner by showing up and participating. It’s simple, and not time consuming.
For PART1 of the event, I have paired everyone on campus. This weekend, take an hour to sit down with your partner, and play an icebreaker, “get to know you” game. Come up with a list of 10 questions to ask, and ask them! I’ll be posting some suggestions tomorrow, you’re welcome to take one of the lists provide, or you can make your own. Either way, ask your partner questions that encourage you to really get to know them! I chose not to go the “just talking” route, and add in the requirement/request of asking specific questions, so that nothing fizzles out and everyone gets the chance to speak with their partner.
PART2 will come tomorrow afternoon, at the Unity Cookout! I’ll be hosting this in the courtyard, enjoying the warm weather they’re calling for. There will be games, snacks, a campfire, a BBQ, and all the fun things we love about a good cookout. However, at one point in the day, you will b e asked to talk about what you learned about your partner! If you have questions, let me know!
