Alright I've made like five intro posts over my time here but here's another because the last few sucked!!!

Howdy! I'm Yakkyr. You can pronounce my name as either Yacker or Yack-eer, idrc. Hell, I'm used to people calling me Yakky because they forget the r. If you're a really old friend of mine from before my Tumblr days, you may even call me Dep because of my old name. He/Him. I am an autism and ADHD combo meal I am a minor, so please refrain from being weird around me. I'm an amateur artist and voice actor, so expect occasional posts about that stuff. Art isn't super high quality, as I stick to sketches on paper, but my friends seem to like it so I keep pressing on.

Perseverance “Percy” Ashton (she/her)

(Percy's costume evolution throughout the game. She's getting her Hot Girl makeover! The fact that she's losing every trace of individuality isn't important!!)

Race: Asmodeus Tiefling Class: Cleric of Ilmater (Life Domain) Background: Acolyte

Personality: Percy is a Good Person. She’d like everyone to be aware of this. She’s a Good Person and therefore all her actions are Good things a Good Person would do, and if those Good Actions result in the deaths and suffering of hundreds of people, it wasn’t that bad and they deserved it and it wasn’t actually Percy’s fault anyway!!

Percy is a conflict-averse doormat who doesn’t want to cause problems and supports her friends unconditionally. Unfortunately, her friends are the kind of people who want to do things like serve evil goddesses, become gods themselves, and kill thousands of people. But hey, they’d totally have done all that anyway, there was nothing Percy could have possibly said to stop them! She was just being a good friend!

She believes strongly in not giving up and continuing in your beliefs and actions, no matter what kind of odds (or common sense) are stacked against you (this being why she named herself Perseverance). She’s extremely ambitious, though she’d never admit it, and desperately wants to be held up as a paragon of virtue in front of the entire Ilmater church. She’s smart, though lacking the wisdom score she really needs as a cleric, and a great lover of reading.

And, of course, she is deep in self-delusions. Ilmater finally stops lending Percy divine power after she helps Astarion ascend, and she completely refuses to notice that the god she spent decades worshipping has gone, and Loviatar’s stepped in instead.

Backstory: Percy grew up in the Outer City, where poverty and anti-tiefling racism were often issues. Fortunately, she found support at the Open Hand Temple and was grateful enough to that as a teenager, she started working there herself, wanting to be able to help others as she’d been helped. Unfortunately, she slowly started taking on a lot of shitty doctrine and a huge martyr complex.

Despite Father Lorgan attempting to gently suggest otherwise, Percy believes that suffering is holy, and by suffering in the service of others, or even just generally Going Through it, she’s a better person. She dedicated her life to helping as much as she possibly can, eagerly going without meals, forcing herself up after only a few hours sleep, and refusing to ever take a day off, in the hope that eventually someone would look at her and say, “Wow you’re so much more selfless than everyone else here, you’re truly the greatest person I’ve ever met, I can’t believe no one’s noticed how incredible you are before!!” And while she was far too nice to say anything, she spent years stewing in resentment over anyone who stopped to take care of their own needs, and clearly weren’t as good people as she is. 

Her home life wasn’t much better. Percy married her childhood sweetheart, Kairon, at 19. When Baldur’s Gate starts, they’ve been married for twenty years, have two kids together, and the spark has gone out completely. Kairon… wasn’t an amazing husband, and should probably have noticed how discontented his wife was, but Percy sure did love to repress her negative feelings and constantly insist she was fine and refuse to actually ask for anything she needed. They’d probably both be a lot happier if they’d broken up ten years ago.

Anyway, by the start of the game, Percy’s worrying that she’s wasted her life on a man who never really appreciated her, and that she’s old enough now that no one ever will. Her sex life, which had dried up completely in the past few years, was never very satisfying because she’s a Good Christian Girl who just wants to please her husband and can’t admit to having any desires of her own. The most joy she’s felt in the past several years is secretly reading steamy romance novels and the occasional piece of Loviatan literature. For, yknow, research into the enemy!

Also, I decided she’s the person who wrote this.

Relationships: When Astarion suggests he can do more for Percy than her husband ever has, she takes a long, thoughtful, angst-ridden two minutes to consider it before jumping into bed with him. She’s not thrilled when the sex break happens, but he’s sweet and broken and he cares about her, so she’s willing to do anything for him as long as it doesn’t mean tearing her family apart! They’re both very much trying to be the person the other wants them to be and oh boy does that not go well. She eventually lets Astarion ascend and becomes his spawn, and the two of them spend the next several years being miserable.

After Astarion, Percy is closest to Gale during the game. They drift apart afterwards, as Gale focuses on being a god, during which time Percy becomes closer to Shadowheart, leaning on her more for advice, and begging regular access to the Mirror of Loss so she can forget everything that makes her worry she might not be a great person. None of them see Lae’zel again, after she goes to serve Vlaakith. 

Percy always secretly disliked Wyll a little. Nothing to do with jealousy over his reputation as a folk hero constantly helping others, or publicly being made to Suffer when Mizora turned him into a devil! He wasn’t immediately fine with suddenly growing horns as part of a violent non consensual body modification, so he’s probably racist against tieflings and therefore awful!! She and Karlach are friends for a while, but things fall apart in Act 3, after Karlach “betrays” Percy by telling her husband about the affair, and makes a fuss over her allying with Gortash. Neither Wyll nor Karlach survive the events of Percy’s game, but that’s a whole thing that we don’t have room for here.

Percy never recruited Jaheira or Minsc, due to supporting Shadowheart in her dreams of becoming a Dark Justiciar, and let the Mistresses of Souls wipe Minthara’s mind. (She was a Bad Person, why would Percy ever think of rescuing her?) Halsin eventually quietly separates himself from the group, after growing discontent with the paths a lot of them are taking, and Percy’s constant attempts to get his endorsement over her cheating because she can’t tell the difference between that and polyamory.Speaking of which, Percy cheats on Astarion with Mizora while he’s still a vampire spawn and the sex pause is ongoing (so really it was his fault--). As much as Mizora’s main aim was causing trouble, she does find herself a little bit enamoured by Percy’s absolute dedication to twisting the truth, and their shared passion in being a massive asshole to Wyll. She turns up again a few years after the events of the game, when Percy’s really starting to want out of her relationship with Astarion, offering protection and freedom from him in return for Percy’s services as her warlock. The two of them eventually begin a relationship which is practically healthy by Percy’s standards! For her, anyway, not for anyone else who has the misfortune of being around the two of them.

MEET PHOENIX AYALA

Phoenix Ayala had been through a lot. They never liked to actually admit it, especially since, in their mind, it wasn’t half as much as a lot of other people had, but it was an objective truth. After being diagnosed with both social and general anxiety at a young age, having a terrible fallout with their mother after they’d come out as non-binary in their early twenties, and going through relationships with what they called their Unholy Trifecta of Exes - The Serial Cheater, the Emotional Abuser, and the Non-Binary Denier - they’d wound up where they were now, with a million little nervous ticks, not a friend to speak of (not that they’d ever really had those anyway), and self-esteem that could have touched the bottom of the Mariana Trench.

Their only comfort was in clothing design and their work as a tailor; spending hours at their sewing machine, quietly singing along to whatever music they had on in the background and making scraps of fabric into beautiful designs, was one of the only things that ever truly made their constantly-worrying mind go quiet. So they very much enjoy their job at a small tailor shop, spending most of their time in the back room working on designs and trying to avoid actually interacting with the customers - until they do a fitting for an energetic, bespectacled man named Eli, who offers them a side gig designing costumes for the music videos his acapella group makes.

After taking the job and meeting Eli’s other friends, a singing group who calls themselves VoicePlay, Pheonix suddenly finds themselves with a whole group of friends, people who actually want to be around them and spend time with them, people who seem to like them just as anxious and awkward as they are. But after everything that’s happened to them, they’ve been left incredibly wary of fully letting people in and bothering them with who they really are, no matter how nice the guys are being to them.

Phoenix genuinely doesn’t believe they deserve friends, or to be cared about - and with all the ways they’ve been hurt before, that isn’t exactly a surprise. But there’s no one better for bringing harmony into their life than a group of singers, and if these guys have anything to say about it, Phoenix is going to realize just how loved they are… and possibly even find some non-platonic love with a certain bass singer as well.

(Not that Geoff would ever make a move on Phoenix himself - he doesn’t want to make them uncomfortable at all. But as it turns out, Eli Jacobsen and Layne Stein are a matchmaking duo not to be messed with, especially when it comes to what Eli calls “a pair of pining idiots”.)

Val Rosebrook (they/them)

Race: Half-drow Class: Warlock (Fiend, Pact of the Chain) Background: Noble

Personality: Vain, selfish and immature, but deeply caring of their friends. Val tries to talk their way out of trouble whenever possible, and avoids starting fights for as long as they possibly can--it’s a lot of trouble, and they don’t want to die, thanks. (Their strong self-preservation instinct goes right out of the window when it comes to people they’re attracted to--danger just makes sex more fun.)

Val’s charming, does their best to get along with most everyone they meet, and never demands rewards for helping people. It just makes life easier if people like you, and they tend to give even better rewards if they don't feel guilted into it! It’s a toss up whether any heroic decisions they make happen due to any morals hidden deep inside them, or just because they’re high empathy and it makes them feel really bad when people get hurt.

That said, they care a lot about kids and always step in to defend them--that bit mostly is morals! They usually encourage their companions to make good decisions and sure, they do think killing loads of people is probably bad, but more importantly, they don’t think Shadowheart and Astarion will actually be happy having killed fuckloads of people. Val’s loved ones being happy and safe is generally more important to them than any other ethical concerns.

Backstory: The Rosebrooks are minor nobles who own a village on the road to Baldur’s Gate and are not as big a deal as any of them think. Lord and Lady Rosebrook have been in a miserable arranged marriage for years, constantly cheating on each other behind the scenes, while putting on a front of being a happy, respectable couple--which got harder when Val was born very obviously not fully human.

Growing up… Val wasn’t mistreated, but they were consistently failed by their family. Lord Rosebrook obviously favoured his actual children, Lady Rosebrook always made sure to let Val know she loved them, even though they were a bastard, and that being half-drow didn’t mean they were evil! These are not in fact very helpful things to tell a child, and Val grew up with a lot of internalised racism they’re still hanging onto during the game.

Their best/only friend growing up was their step brother Marcon, one of Lord Rosebrook’s own bastards. They moved to Baldur’s Gate with him a few months before the start of the game, because fuck their silly, stuck up noble family, they’re gonna go and make it on their own! Which for Val, meant living off the money their mother was sending them and spending most of their time lounging about in the Elfsong tavern. (It’s in the lower city! They’re roughing it!) 

They also met Raphael at Sharess’ Caress during this time, and ended up becoming his warlock because it sounded exciting and Raphael was hot. They got a pretty good deal out of it--Val wasn’t in any way desperate and had time to negotiate, and at the time they weren’t a high priority to Raphael in the slightest. But he absolutely uses that initial contract to try and drag them in deeper during the events of the game. Better the devil you know…

Marcon’s father, meanwhile, wasn’t willing to fund an extravagant lifestyle for him, but was willing to use his connections to get him a comfortable job in the Flaming Fists, which quickly started causing friction between him and Val. To Val, Marcon was giving up all their shared principles of “fuck law enforcement” and “having fun instead of getting weighed down under boring jobs”. Marcon felt resentful of Val being entitled and immature about this, when he would love to not have to work as a fist, thanks. Val, who at 23 had spent the last few years desperately trying not to acknowledge that they were starting to age noticeably slower than their human family and that they were going to outlive everyone they knew, didn’t respond well to their immaturity being pointed out. They took this as the final nail in the coffin that Marcon was growing up without them and they were going to lose him. The two of them ended up having a massive argument, which ended in Val storming off to go drink their sorrows away.

While doing so, they met a delightful elven woman named Violet, who reassured them they were totally valid and special and invited them to a very exclusive party at her cool gothic manor house. Val happily accepted. The nautiloid appeared above them while they were on their way there, and Violet pushed Val into its path while running for cover herself.

Relationships: Val would go to the ends of the earth for all six origin companions, with actually quite a fucking lot of complaining. But they’d do it. They never really connect to the later game companions the same way, but these guys are their family. 

They imprint on Shadowheart within minutes of meeting another goth half elf. They’re besties who end a lot of nights gossiping over a glass of wine, and usually the first person either of them goes to for advice.

Being attracted to people they’re scared of, Val starts casually sleeping with both Astarion and Lae’zel very soon in Act One. They flirt with Karlach up until the point she doesn’t pose the risk of burning them when they touch, when they entirely lose interest. Karlach calls them out for playing with her feelings and generally being a dickhead, which shames them into being a bit more upfront about their feelings and intentions in future, and the two of them eventually work through things.

Meanwhile, Val ends things with Lae’zel when they realise Shadowheart might be interested in her and they slowly start becoming actual friends instead. They continue having fun, casual, no-feelings sex with Astarion, until they discover that he’s not actually having that much fun with it, and even more horrifyingly, that they actually might have several feelings. The two of them start slowly trying to work out how to have a relationship based on mutual love and respect.

It takes them a little longer to bond with Gale and Wyll than the others--Val and Gale both consider the other to have too high opinion of themself, and Wyll initially (correctly) thinks Val is a bit of an asshole--but by the end of the game, they’ve all been through hell for each other (quite literally, on one occasion).

Outside their companions, they get along well with Isobel and Aylin, traumabond a lot with Hope, and adore Yenna and the tiefling kids. They fancy pretty much every villain they meet, and sleep with both the Emperor and Haarlep (they would likely have slept with Mizora earlier in the game, but by the time she propositions them, they’ve developed too much loyalty to Wyll to fuck his hot abuser, a fact which annoys them greatly). Val and Raphael flirt throughout the game, although it's entirely unclear whether Raphael’s actually interested at all, or whether he’s just manipulating them.
