a look at where astryr is based on seasons of the vampire diaries and the originals and how involved she is with the storyline. (full disclosure, i haven’t watched tvd 1-4 in over a year and likewise with the originals. details may be wrong)
pre series, tvd.
she lives in ireland. as far as she knows, none of her siblings have a great deal of interest there so it’s a place she considers safe. sometimes she ventures to paris, sometimes further to america, sometimes london. she mostly stays with witches and covens she’s allied with. she keeps an eye on her warring brothers from afar and sometimes sends gifts their way in the form of information. she has spies who keep her informed and witches on the other side.
season two, tvd.
she knows of elijahs plan to kill klaus. it’s typical to her, that they would be warring, and she’s sure they won’t do any permanent damage to each other. she did not think elijah would get as close as he did and she starts tying up her loose ends should she leave suddenly for mystic falls.
season three, tvd.
she ultimately decides not to leave when she hears about klaus and his hybrid making trip around the US. when she hears of finns death, and it’s consequences, she knows that her lie is ruined and stops hiding. she spends the rest of the season travelling the world looking for witches who can help her find a way to protect her siblings and bring finn back. she spends the better part of a year attempting this to little result.
season four, tvd.
astryr goes to mystic falls during the events of ‘catch me if you can’, the episode prior to kols death, after hearing news of them looking for the cure. like kol, she would rather silas wasn’t resurrected which is what causes her to abandon her search and return to her family. she does not know where they are or what is happening and so cannot try and save kol. when rebekah returns from the island, and klaus is free, they obviously do not want to talk to her but she is warned off of going after the mystic falls gang in revenge. she stays in mystic falls for the rest of the season, trying to reach out to her siblings, and approaches elijah most when he returns. eventually, she follows her brothers to new orleans.
season one, the originals.
for the most part, she stays away during the events of season one. she sends baby stuff for hayley, and often reminds them she’s there to help if they need it. she does not want to end up in a coffin, or to have an argument with her siblings so doesn’t push them too hard. she stays in the quarter and judges the shit outta the witches for the harvest bullshit. she low key supports marcel but she’s not gonna admit it out loud.
season two, the originals.
she helps with killing the wolves with the moon rings, she slowly starts to be around the compound more. when their mother and brothers return, she’s there far more and is most happy to see kol back, albeit in a different body. she adores hope and assures her siblings she will not be leaving again anytime soon, at least not properly. after their aunt is dealt with, she moves into the compound and helps look after hope alongside her siblings.
season three, the originals.
she practices magic with freya a lot, and provides the little information she’d gained during her research to rebekah. during the majority of the drama around the martels and lucien she was called out of new orleans due to a promise she had made to a coven a few decades earlier. she keeps in touch while there and hurries back after kol is resurrected : they are at odds, because she doesn’t think freya and elijah are completely in the wrong regarding davina because they needed to stop lucien. she gets bitten too, and by the time they figure she could try to siphon the bite it’s too late. it’s both too far gone and too strong for her to siphon it from herself, let alone her siblings.
season four, the originals.
after five years with her siblings, she does feel a little cramped and needs some time alone. she was unaware of the hollow, as she went radio silent for a short while, and only found out after elijah was ‘killed’. she starts to head back to new orleans. she had wanted to take klaus place, so he didn’t have to be separated from his daughter. it takes longer than expected to get there, due to her own problems and enemies, and she takes too long to get there.
season five of the originals and legacies.
following the end of season four, she acts as a go between for her siblings a lot. she makes sure to visit them all as often as possible. she also decides to leave new orleans and wants to keep an eye on hope, so she goes back to mystic falls. she is only slightly forgiving of alaric and caroline due to kol being alive again, so promises not to be trouble. as a siphoner, she first offers help to them regarding the twins as she has a soft spot for witches and knows how much trouble she had herself as a child. this eventually turns into a teaching position at the school where she helps both with magic and young vampires. she is still there mostly to watch out for hope.
